Blurb:
The second the test-the-sexy-scenes offer landed in my lap, I said yes.

After all, I’ve been damn curious about a few things I’ve read in romance novels. Do buttons truly go flying across the floor when you rip off a guy’s shirt? Is staircase sex hella hot or does it leave you with a big old bruise mark on your back? And don’t even get me started on all that panty shredding, and whether it even works.

Time to find out as I embark on Project Sexy Scenes Research, at the request of my hotshot book editor bestie.

All I need is a willing scene partner. Enter Tristan, my best guy friend. The witty, tell-it-like-it-is, bearded hottie volunteers for the experiment.

He’s also the guy who gave me the most devastating, toe-curling kiss of my life ten years ago. But nothing has happened since then.
And nothing will come between my panties and our friendship now since we have a plan to keep it PG.
But once the buttons start flying, all bets are off…

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Ah! This was a swoony best friends romance with a twist on the love lessons trope. I adores Payton and Tristan, and was hooked from the first page. This was a perfect no-angst romcom about two best friends who are both scared to admit that they’ve been secretly in love with one another for years. All the feels!

Payton is the owner of a lingerie shop, and is helping her book editor friend Amy (from Asking For A Friend) with a kind of how-to companion guide on whether sexual positions in romance books are doable IRL. Payton enlists here best guy pal, Tristan, to be her partner in the sexual experiments. I love that twist! How will these two be able to keep things to just the tryouts?

Well, they won’t! It turns into something much more meaningful for them both, but yet they each are determined to stick to the expiration date set on their fling rather than ruin their friendship. But will they wise up before the best thing that’s ever happened to either of them slips through their fingers?

This story is all that I know and love about Lauren Blakely. A swoony hero, a strong and secure heroine, and a great set of supporting characters. I loved the subplot with Tristan’s teenage brother, and thought that LB handles that reveal very well!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Notorious town playboy, Cannon Banks grew up living the good life. He had it all, loving parents, good friends, and a face and body that drove women wild. Lifting the beer bottle to my lips, I took a pull as I stared around in wonder at my new house. Typically, I would have toasted something as awesome as moving into my brand new dream home with a glass of champagne, but I lived in a biker town and I was dating a biker. There was no way the people in my life now were going to drink champagne, so when Darla and Buck showed up to join in the celebration, they brought a case of beer with them.

And I was just fine with that.

The last moving truck had taken off five minutes earlier, and even though every piece of furniture was right where it was supposed to be, there was still a lot of work to be done. Unlike Cannon, I fully intended to put my stamp on this beautiful old Victorian. There were boxes to unpack, art and pictures to hang, and toss pillows to toss. It would take several more shopping trips to fill all the space; a challenge I was more than up for.

But all of that could wait. I was finally home, and that was the only thing that mattered to me.

Clay and his men had done better than I could have imagined. Every room was warm and inviting and absolutely perfect. They’d even worked a miracle with my bedroom walls. You couldn’t even see the crappy paint job I’d done when you looked at it now.

I thought back to that very first day, when I’d stepped through that front door into a dilapidated pit. I thought back to the warmth rooting in my chest, and I knew I’d never forget that moment, because it was the exact same warmth I felt as I looked at all my friends and family gathered in my new kitchen, drinking beer and cutting up.

Bennett and Jase were there. Cannon, Shane, Brantley, and Poppy. Banks had shown up with Bev earlier to help with the move. Scooter was there with his wife, along with Danno and Fletch. Several of my regulars at the bar had come bearing housewarming gifts. Everyone I cared about was standing in this room, and as I looked around, I discovered something that had me dangerously close to tears.

I didn’t have enough chairs.

“What’s on your mind, sweet pea?” Jase asked, coming over and slinging his arm around my shoulders. “This is supposed to be a happy day, and you look like you’re about to start crying.”

“I don’t have enough chairs,” I whispered, my voice scratchy with emotion.

He looked down at me like I had lost my mind. “You’re about to burst into tears because you don’t have enough chairs? That’s an easy enough fix, Farah. Or have you forgotten you’re loaded?”

I let out a watery laugh and smacked him in his stomach. “It’s not that, you jerk. I’m not upset.”

“Then what is it?”

“All my life, I’ve only had two people, Jase. You and Bennett, that’s it. And that was always enough for me. I was lucky, having the two of you. But now . . . now I have this.” I waved my arm out. “Now I have so many people who mean something to me that I don’t have enough chairs for them all to sit in. So, yeah, I’m close to crying, but it’s only because I’m incredibly, stupidly happy.”

Bad Alibi Review.jpg

Oh, wow, another great series starts from Jessica Prince! Bad Alibi is book #1 in the Redemption series, a spin-off of the Hope Valley series. We first met Cannon in Out Of The Darkness, as he’s Sage’s ex/best friend from her hometown.

Farrah is a Connecticut socialite who sets out to make a new life for herself after a brutal, life-changing incident. She left behind her uptight parents and cheating ex-fiancé, escaping to the small Tennessee town that her family’s driver Bennett (and father figure) had once called home. Although she’s not looking for a relationship, Farrah catches the eye of local mechanic Cannon — who has quite a reputation around town for being a player. But despite her not wanting a relationship, and him not doing a relationship, their friendship turns into quite a steamy romance.

There are some cute scenes with Sage and Xander from Out Of The Darkness, and Sage really kicks Cannon’s butt into gear when it comes to making things up to Farrah. I love how Farrah is a fish out of water, but slowly finds that Redemption is the pool she was meant to thrive and swim freely in as she makes new friends and creates her own family. This story is full of laugh-out-loud moments, a crazy cat named Crash, and a manwhore who falls to his knees for the love of a good woman, but Bad Alibi also deals with a rather sensitive trigger subject, and Jessica Prince does it so well. What Farrah went through, the support system she finds in Redemption and how it changes her life for the better is nothing short of amazing.

Bad Alibi is all kinds of gooey goodness! I can’t wait to see what comes next for the couples in Redemption! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.Bad Alibi Review.jpg

Born and raised around Houston Texas, Jessica spent most of her life complaining about the heat, humidity, and all around pain in the ass weather. It was only as an adult that she quickly realized the cost of living in Houston made up for not being able to breathe when she stepped outside. That’s why God created central air, after all.

Jessica is the mother of a perfect little boy–she refuses to accept that he inherited her attitude and sarcastic nature no matter what her husband says.

In addition to being a wife and mom, she’s also a wino, a coffee addict, and an avid lover of all types of books–romances still being her all time favs. Her husband likes to claim that reading is her obsession but she just says it’s a passion…there’s a difference. Not that she’d expect a boy to understand.

Jessica has been writing since she was a little girl, but thankfully grew out of drawing her own pictures for her stories before ever publishing her first book. Because an artist she is not.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Skye, by Kelsie Rae

Skye by Kelsie Rae!! Are you a sucker for a bad boy marriage of convenience love story with a twist?
Available on ALL platforms! https://books2read.com/u/m2rGjr
Skye
Walking down the aisle toward my arch enemy wasn’t exactly what I was picturing when I planned out my dream wedding as a little kid. But as I take in his chiseled jaw and sexy smirk, I remember why I agreed to this sham of a marriage.

It’s because I’m a glutton for punishment and love a good underdog story, and the more I get to know Liam, the more I can see that he’s exactly that.

The underdog.

I just hope I’m not wrong about him.

Liam
Marriage is a load of crap and my dad knows it, which is why he insisted I find a wife if I ever wanted to touch my inheritance.

Little does he know, I don’t have a problem getting my hands dirty in order to get what I want. And if I have to use my little brother’s nanny to prove it, I will.

Besides, the girl drives me insane. It’s not like we have anything in common other than our mutual disdain for each other.

This’ll be a walk in the park.

I hope.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Another sweet romance in Kelsie Rae’s Signature Sweethearts series!

Skye is the sister of Sway from “Anthony” — we got a hint of her fake marriage to come in Anthony’s book. Having seen a side of Liam that she’s confident he doesn’t reveal often of himself, Skye volunteers to be his fake wife in order for Liam to get his inheritance. While his father sees Liam as a no-good waste of space, Skye has seen another side to him, a gentler, kind man, and agrees to help him out purely out of the goodness of her heart.

Most of the story is the two of them alone in Europe on their honeymoon, and it gives the reader a great opportunity to fall in love with the two of them as they fall in love with one another. Having lived his whole life feeling less-than, Liam finds himself feeling cared for and cared about for the first time in longer than he cares to remember. Skye isn’t like any of the other girls he’s dated before. She’s not into material things and would rather take a small sweet gesture than a grand gesture any day. It’s not long before Liam wants to be a better man, be the man that Skye believes him to be.

Just when I thought that this book would come to a conclusion without a breakup, the split happens and it’s fantastic. Skye is blindsided, feels totally betrayed. Months go by before there is any resolution, and what Liam has to say to explain himself? Well, it brought tears to my eyes!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Mantrum, by Jacob Chance

Title: MANTRUM
Author: Jacob Chance
Genre: Romantic Comedy Standalone
Release Date: January 10, 2020
Cover Design: Sybil Wilson/Popkitty Design

Mantrum: An emotional outburst or an expression of anger by an adult man.
I’ve never understood the attraction women have for an alpha male, until I meet single father, Rex Winters.

Tall, chiseled, and persistent, he tries to avoid a parking ticket by asking me out to dinner. But I know men like him. He’s a repeat offender–habitually getting into trouble and always ready to sweet talk his way out of it.
But his charm won’t work on me.
Not when he’s the reason I’m forced to attend a six-week anger management class. And especially not when I find out all six feet two inches of Rex and his two hundred pounds of sexy muscle will be joining me every single time.
It doesn’t matter how much he flirts, or how attracted to him I am. I’m the girl who enforces rules for a living and he’s the guy who breaks them.

Do opposites really attract?
I guess we’re about to find out.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

I’d just finished reading a rather intense book when I started Mantrum, and it was a perfect pick-me-up. A funny opposites-attract story, Mantrum has zero angst, a hot-headed single dad, and a laidback heroine.

Considering how their meet-cute was her giving him a parking ticket, I thought it was hysterically brillian that Rex and Danika end up being partners in an anger management class afterwards. Where he brings some chaos to her structured world, she calms the storm that seems to always be raging inside of him.

Their story is cute, albeit predictable, and is a perfect book to pick up if you are looking for a romcom escape. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Jacob Chance grew up in New England and still lives there today. He’s a martial artist, a football fan, a practical joker and junk food lover.

BLURB

Blake Carson can’t afford to have a life. Between working full-time as a tattoo artist and caring for his disabled twin brother Jacob, his plate is more than full – and he prefers it that way.

But his meticulous planning is turned on its head when he meets the upbeat and beautiful Audrey Wright and her butterfly tattoo.

Now, through a complicated maze of coincidence and fate, Blake begins to question if maybe there could be more to his life than just work and Jacob.

That is, if the guilt doesn’t eat him alive first.

With the help of Dr. Vanessa Travetti and a girl he doesn’t think he deserves, can Blake convince himself that even the bad guy deserves a happy ending?

wbliveteaser.png

EXCERPT

“Hey, Blake,” Audrey answered, a smile in her voice.

“Hey.”

“This is the second time you’ve called me in three days.”

“You’re keeping count?”

She scoffed lightheartedly. “Duh. I mean, I might be a grown woman, but deep down, I’m still a girl who has it pretty bad for this really hot guy.”

wbnowlive.png

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I don’t know what to say about this book other than it is absolutely fantastic. I thought Kelsey’s Forget The Stars was a great male-centric story. But Chad has nothing on Blake.

Blake is so riddled with guilt, and lives a pretty miserable existence. He’s not even living, just existing. He spends every minute he can taking care of his disabled twin, and because he is responsible for Jake’s injury, Blake feels like he’s not worthy of good things like love or happiness. His parents have not made the last twenty something years easy for Blake, and the family friction takes on a life of its own, almost becoming another character altogether.

That all changes when Audrey walks into his shop, asking for Blake to give her the same tattoo he once gave her sister. Blake only does original pieces, but he breaks his own rule this one time and it sends him on a fantastic journey of love, self-reflection, Faith, forgiveness, and unravels an incredible web of fate and destiny that extends way beyond Blake and Audrey’s relationship.

Warrior Blue is not a lighthearted romance. It’s gritty and raw and emotional and difficult to read at times. But it is fan-freaking-static and the bar is set hella high for the rest of the books I read in 2020.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Focused, by Karla Sorensen

Title: Focused
Author: Karla Sorensen
Genre: Sports Romance
Release Date: January 7, 2020

If you’ve ever seen your teenage crush ten years later, and he turns out to be a complete jerk, then you know how Molly Ward feels.

The last time she saw Noah Griffin was the regrettable day that she decided to climb into his bedroom window and turn her unrequited crush into something more.

That day was bad enough, but things are about to get worse.

Noah has become one of the best football players in the country, and he’s just landed on Molly’s front step.

As a new addition to the Washington Wolves roster, Noah’s presence is the key to Molly’s promotion in the front office.

The problem is, Noah wants nothing to do with Molly, and his surly attitude is making her job very difficult.

But he’s got another thing coming if he thinks Molly will be intimidated by one grumpy football player, no matter how much he hates being around her.

Once these two go head to head, their mutual dislike explodes into undeniable chemistry. But with what they have at stake, they just might detonate everything else along with it.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I can’t believe one scene in The Marriage Effect led to an amazing story like Focused.

From start to finish, Noah and Molly were a fantastic opposites-attract, enemies-to-lovers couple. He’s a grumpy football star, completely focused on his career to the detriment of everything else in his life. She’s a rising star in the marketing department at the Washington Wolves, and her promotion hinges on being Noah’s handler during the filming of a docuseries about his adjustment to a new team. They have a history and they hate each other, so that no-fraternization clause in her contract shouldn’t be an issue at all. Right?

So Molly and Noah’s history: When she was 16, they were neighbors, and she had a crush on the college football star, and even snuck into his room one night. Needless to say, neither Noah’s dad or Molly’s brother/guardian took too kindly of what almost happened between them. It was a bit from The Marriage Effect, but it’s covered in Focused, so no worries if you haven’t read TME. (But you totally should!)

Now it’s 9 years later, and as they film the series, Molly gets through Noah’s gruff exterior in a way no one could have predicted, breaking through The Machine and getting to the guy inside. The guy who has shut everything and everyone else out. The way he falls for her just sneaks up on him and it is MARVELOUS to have been able to read it all happening along the way. The guy who has blinders on is completely blindsided by a scrappy girl he never expected to bring him to his knees.

Focused is a standalone/start to a new series about the Ward Sisters, who are the younger siblings of Logan from the Washington Wolves series. It’s sweet, it’s emotional, and I’m not afraid to admit that I cried as Noah realized how empty his life was without Molly in it.

I received and advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Well, let’s see … I’m a wife and a mother. If the things that I write bring a smile to someone’s face, then I’ve done my job. I am obsessed with Outlander (both the books and the show). I’m almost exclusively a romance reader, which means some people will never consider me a literary snob. If I could meet one historical figure, it would be Jane Austen. I received my Bachelors in Public Relations and worked in health care marketing before I had my babies. I hate Twitter. I do it, but I hate it. Also, if you want to get on my good side, bring me wine and I’ll love you forever.

CBFM_Cover

Come Back for Me, an all-new emotional and riveting
standalone from New York Times Bestselling author Corinne Michaels, is LIVE!
One night, eight years ago, she gave me peace.
No names.
No promises.
Just two broken people, desperate to quiet their pain and
grief.
In the morning, she was gone and had taken my solace with
her. I left for the military that day, vowing never to return to Pennsylvania.
When my father dies, I’m forced to go home to bury him.
At least I’ll finally be rid of his farm, which is grown over and tangled with
memories I’ve fought to forget.
And that’s when I find her. She’s even more beautiful
than I remember and has the most adorable kid I’ve ever seen.
Years have passed, but my feelings are the same, and this
time I refuse to let her go. They say you can’t bury the past, and they’re
right. Because when long-ago secrets are exposed, rocking us both to the core,
I have no choice but to watch her walk away again . . .

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

An amazing start to a new series from Corinne Michaels! I was completely captivated by Ellie and Connor. The one night they spent together 8 years ago impacted them both in a major way, and gave them each a memory to hold on to even in their darkest moments.

A chance meeting gives the a second chance (once she puts her abusive marriage behind her), and a life that Connor never thought he could have. But when their pasta collide, will Ellie walk away for good or come back to him again?

Connor and Ellie are both victims of domestic abuse (trigger warnings!) and their survival and recovery is handled wonderfully by CM. Their mutual experiences bond them in an amazing way, and is the base for a beautiful, lasting relationship.

There is so much heart to this story, so much strength and bravery from both of them. I can’t wait to see what else unfolds for the rest of the brothers!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Always Mine, by Kennedy Fox

College
parties, beer, and one-night stands—that was my life.

Now, I hunt down criminals, ethically or not,
but if no one’s asking, then I’m not telling. Drinking and women are still
included, though I can’t seem to forget the girl who almost gave me her
virginity. She would’ve until I realized she was too young, and I wasn’t
looking to get thrown into jail.
In a twist of fate, we’re reunited, except she’s
no longer underage but still equally off-limits.

After ignoring her relentless advances, she
starts to wear me down. I only have so much willpower when she’s around,
running her smart mouth and showing off her impeccable dance moves.

Just when my restraint starts to crumble, my
poor choices finally catch up with me, putting us both in danger.

There’s no easy way to explain why I betrayed
her, but I’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe—even if it means breaking
her heart.

ALWAYS MINE is a slow-burn, intense romance wrapped up in a suspenseful
beautiful love story. It’s book 1 in the Liam & Madelyn duet and must be
read first.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Having read the two other duets in this series, I knew that this story was going to be a doozy, as were the others. I knew there was going to be a lot of push and pull between Liam and Maddy. And I knew it was going to end on a jaw-dropping cliffhanger that would leave me wanting to throw my kindle.

But I still dove in, part of me hoping that I’d get something different. A resolution, a happy ever after, a non-angsty story. But I didn’t. And that is so okay because Liam and Maddy’s story is the epic kind of romance that left me wanting more, that I didn’t want to finish yet couldn’t wait to keep turning the page.

The layers between these characters was awesome. They met before. Brilliant. Liam’s gambling problem, which we got hints of in the previous books, runs so much deeper than I ever imagined. And it all sets the stage for a fantastic page turner.

I need the second half, pronto.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Rehearsals, leotards, and textbooks—that was my life.

Dancing is all I’ve ever known, but when Liam’s problems turn everything upside down, I’m thrust into a world I know nothing about. Secrets and betrayal changed the man I’ve fallen for and he isn’t who I thought he was. Regardless, Liam is all I’ve ever wanted and though I’m struggling with my emotions, deep down I’d do anything for him.

When Liam admitted his true feelings, things finally fell into place. Now they’re falling apart. Saving our relationship is his top priority, but keeping him alive is mine. Corruption and power are their game and Liam is nothing more than a pawn. Playing by the rules won’t end well, but I can’t let him fight alone this time.

Our happily ever after is so close I can taste it, but then it quickly crashes and burns, threatening to destroy us. Giving up on the love of my life isn’t an option, but in the end I might not be able to save him.

ALWAYS YOURS is a slow-burn, intense romance wrapped up in a suspenseful beautiful love story. It’s book 2 in the Liam & Madelyn duet and must be read in order.

I have to confess—I’ll do whatever it takes to make that happen.

Confession #1: I may have overhead that he was in search of a nanny. What can I say? My brother has a big mouth.

Confession #2: It’s possible I helped along the assumption that I had nanny experience. Hey, babysitting my nieces and nephew counts, right?

Confession #3: There’s a good chance I oversold my qualifications. But my Grandma Dori backed me up, so it’s not completely my fault.

And it worked. He hired me. Only for me to find out that he left the business.

I guess it’s on to Plan B.

When he accidentally overhears me singing, I expect nothing from him. Then he asks to work with me on a song for our town’s Founder’s Day Parade and it feels like a dream come true. Until…

Confession #4: I’ve fallen for him.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

The baby of the Bailey family finds her happily ever after with an older man, single dad. Who knew?

Phoenix and Griffin are a great pair. He’s left behind the music scene in L.A. to focus on raising his son. He’s been burned by both his ex-wife and colleagues, and he’s looking forward to living a life out of the spotlight. Meanwhile, for Phoenix’s entire life, all she’s ever wanted was to be a singing star. She thinks that working as Griffin’s nanny will be her ticket back to Hollywood, but when her star does actually begin to rise, it’s at the expense of their romantic relationship.

I really loved how the insecurities/fears of both characters played off of one another. His fears of being used just for his connections, and hers of being abandoned/not good enough/being left behind. They complemented each other beautifully. I also appreciated how involved Maverick was as a character, not just with his dad and Phoenix, but with the Bailey family as a whole. I love that he and G’ma Dori connected like that over video games!

While Confessions Of A Naughty Nanny may be the cliche single dad falls for the nanny story, there’s really so much more to this book. So many layers get peeled back between Phoenix and Griffin, and it reminded me of why I love this series so much.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Dad Bod, by Silla Webb & Kaden Layne

Dad Bod by Silla Webb & Kaden Layne

Have you ever loved something so much you’d do anything to protect it?

Keep it safe, no matter the expense to yourself? No matter how miserable it makes you? Yeah, we all have. Some folks feel the need to protect their loved ones — I feel the need to protect my six-pack.

And my washboard has been well protected beneath sixty pounds of hardened man chub, but my sexy abs are about to make a comeback.

I do it alright, even sign up for a trainer at the gym.

This dude is just what I need to get back on track. He’ll give me the brutal drill sergeant attitude I need to kick my ass in line. It’s gonna be freakin’ awesome.

Imagine my shock and shrinking manhood when Jordan Williams walks in. A five-feet-six inch chick with more curves than a back road and just the right amount of sass and sweet. She’s bold as brass and tough as nails, and I’m completely screwed.

She encourages me to set three milestones for my weight loss, a way to reward myself for the pounds shed. One is getting back on the dating scene. It’s not what I expect, but I have a hard time saying no to her. I’m not losing my dad bod but my man card too.

All it takes is three disastrous dates and several awkward situations for me to realize who I really want to show all my tools to is right in front of me. Busing my ass in the gym every day.

Maybe I should have concentrated just as much on protecting my heart as  I have my abs.

Jordan is out of my league, and my goal is to get on her level.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3 Stars

I feel like this book had a lot of potential with the hero being the one in the “ugly duckling” role.

After a health crisis, single dad Madden is spurred into making a life change, and starts working out with a hot personal trainer… Unfortunately, there were just a lot of small details in this book that took away from the bigger picture for me, like inconsistencies with the kids, and the way people spoke with one another. The conversation didn’t seem natural, I didn’t like the way that they addressed and treated one another, and that was a turn-off for me. Things about Madden’s ex and his daughter weren’t fleshed-out as well as they could have been, and left questions in the story.

This one just wasn’t a page-turner for me, and I unfortunately gave up. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
