Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars
All I Ask is full of everything I love about a good romance novel. It’s heartwarming, has just a touch of angst, and the perfect best friends romance. This book pulled me in from that heartbreaking prologue, and had me waiting to read chapter after chapter so I could see how Derek and Teagan’s story ended.
I love that Derek and Teagan were unlikely best friends back in high school. He was a nerd, she was a cheerleader, but they formed an unbreakable friendship when she tutored him. It wasn’t long before they started to develop feeling for each other, but since Teagan had a boyfriend, they each kind of ignored it. Eventually, being in love with each other and keeping silent is what led to the end of their friendship.
The story goes back and forth in dual POV between the past and the present, and we really see how Derek’s feelings for Tea impacted his marriage, and how torn Teagan was about whether or not she should tell Derek how she felt about him. In the end, Teagan loved him enough to let him go.
Thirteen years later, Derek and Tea are reunited when he reluctantly moves back to their small town. They are forced to face their feelings, and their teenage daughters (who are complete opposites) are instant enemies. CM wonderfully navigates this tentative reunion as they hash out their hurts and hidden feelings, come to terms with their new realities, and attempt to move forward as a couple. And when Teagan gets a once in a lifetime opportunity, it threatens to destroy everything that they’ve been working toward.
From start to finish, All I Ask was a page-turner that left me feeling happy. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
