Old-Fashioned was a great conclusion to the Becker Brothers series! Kandi Steiner outdid herself with this one.
Jordan and Sydney’s story was a bit heavier than the rest of the books in this series, simply because of who they are. Jordan is the adopted oldest brother, and although he is every bit a Becker, he always felt a little on the outside, not knowing where he came from and being one of the few mixed-race guys in town. Sydney is also mixed race, but her issues and insecurities in this book stem from her abusive marriage to the town’s crooked police chief. Everything that Sydney does is well-thought out and done with her young daughter in mind. Especially when it comes to dating Jordan. Not only do they work together as the football coach and athletic trainer, but how will her ex react to the simple fact that she’s got a boyfriend? Will he strike out again in anger?
Their relationship is kept behind closed doors for the most part, but just as Sydney is finally ready to go public, the rug is pulled out from underneath them. And when Jordan needs her most, she bailes on him and the love they share.
Then there is the through-line that spanned all four books related to the death of dad John Becker. The mystery of whether or not he was murdered is wrapped up wonderfully, and the extra twist in the story as it relates to Jordan himself was something I never saw coming! From start to finish, this book was perfect!
