Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Jody “inherited” her brother’s best friend, Nash, when Joey died, and the terms of his will stated that she had to be Nash’s best friend for 5 years. I wasn’t sure where Willing Me Him was going to go. But wow, I enjoyed the ride.

At first, Nash comes off like the typical commitaphobe playboy. But there are so many more layers to him! In between the dual POV chapters are some Past chapters featuring Nash and Joey, and we really get inside Nash’s head as a younger kid and get to see when he first started to fall for Jody. And there are so many more layers to Nash than I expected! Learning about Nash’s childhood… well, I shed plenty of tears for that little boy.

This story is relatively short — it took me less than 2 hours to read it all in one sitting. It made me laugh, it made me cry, and it ended on such a sweet note! I read an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Tiler

My life is a mirror image of my vision board.

Graduated college. Check.

Landed the job of my dreams with the Boulder Bullets. Double check.

Score VIP tickets to see my favorite band, The Whiskey Barrels, perform at the USA Music Festival in Bear Creek. Triple check.

Not only have those dreams become reality, but I nearly checked off the last remaining goal: find Mr. Right when I met Jonah at the music festival.

Jonah and I spent a whirlwind day together under the Colorado Rocky Mountains sky, and he almost turned into my one-night stand.

The only problem with Mr. Right?

He also happens to be a new rookie on the team. Which means he’s all wrong and off-limits because I can’t date one of the players. Even if he checks all my boxes on the boyfriend checklist.

Jonah

Getting drafted out of college to play professional basketball with the Boulder Bullets was a dream come true.

How lucky am I?

Even luckier when Tiler, the cute girl I spent the day with at the music festival but then lost in a crowd, ends up being the new social media assistant for the team. Score!

Although, she doesn’t see it that way. Tiler assures me we were a one-time thing and what started between us is no longer on the menu.

But this Iowa farm boy turned pro player has never backed down from a challenge. I’ll find a way to change her mind and prove that I’m the man she’s been waiting for.

Boyfriend Checklist-2

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3 Stars

The Boyfriend Checklist is the first book I’ve read by Sierra Hill. I was intrigued by the description, as well as the fact that this All American Boy series has each book written by a different author. This book is a short (20ish chapters) and steamy story about up-and-coming basketball player Jonah and Tiler, the girl of his dreams whom he meets at a music festival. They share an incredible connection right off the bat, but get parted by the crowd before they can take things to the next level. So imagine the surprise both of them get the following Monday when it’s his first day of practicing with the team and her first day as the team’s new social media manager.

Since shadowing Jonah is now a work assignment, Tiler tries to put some distance between them. Which only makes Jonah want her more. He is relentless in his pursuit of her, and eventually breaks through her walls. Is Tiler willing to risk everything she’s worked for professionally? Will she pass up The One for her career ambitions? I really liked the obstacles this couple faced, which were mostly on Tiler’s side. She was really torn over what to do, and her boss, Frannie, was a great sounding board, having been in that position herself of falling for one of the team’s players.

I enjoyed the progression of Tiler and Jonah’s romance, but I felt like the side story of his rivalry with another teammate took too much away from the romance at the end of the book. The story kind of ended abruptly with the focus being on Jonah’s rivalry, leaving me to feel like the epilogue was a throw-in attempt to tie things back to the romance. But overall, The Boyfriend Checklist is an entertaining, quick contemporary romance.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: My Sister’s Flirty Friend, by Piper Rayne

Release Date: November 2

I broke the cardinal rule and slept with my sister’s best friend.

Granted, I’d just found out that I was now a single father to a three-year-old little girl and was low on willpower.

It should also be noted that there’s been sexual tension between us for years. There’s no way it would be a surprise if anyone in our small town found out. That is if we were telling people, which we’re not.

We’re in agreement to keep our affair a secret, especially since neither one of us do relationships.

You’ve probably figured it out already, but things didn’t go as planned.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Piper Rayne does it again! I feel like I repeat myself, but each couple tops the one that came before them! We return to Alaska and the Greene family with My Sister’s Flirty Friend. I’ve loved the banter between Jed and Molly in the previous books, and now we dive head-first into their wickedly delicious friends with benefits affair.

Jed has a lot of baggage due to his place in the family and his strained relationship with his dad. He was a playboy forced to grow up fast when a daughter he didn’t know he had was dropped at his doorstep. He and Molly have had a contentious relationship for years, and when they finally give in, it is magic. I really admired Molly — it showed a lot of strength when she knew that it was time to walk away. Will Jed realize what he had before it is too late?

My Sister’s Flirty Friend is one of my favorite Piper Rayne books to date and I will be coming back to read this one over again! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: The Book Boyfriend, by Carina Rose

Release Date: October 28

After Callie’s debut romance novel is an unexpected hit, she thinks nothing can surprise her—until the man of her dreams seems to walk out of the book and into her life.

The last thing Callie Richardson expected was her debut romance novel, Ready to Fall, to top the charts. Nor did she think her readers would become obsessive over her book’s hero, Hudson Newman.
Life couldn’t get any stranger. But then her assistant announces that Hudson Newman wants to see her. She’s convinced her best friend is playing a joke on her, because no one in her office knows she’s written a book. Plus, the name is fictional, a mashup of famous actors.
So when the stunning man steps into her office, she thinks she must be dreaming. Except this Hudson Newman wears a scowl rather than a model-worthy smile. After confirming his name is in fact the same as her character’s, he proceeds to tell Callie that her book’s success has turned his orderly world upside down.
Not only that, but her readers have set out to make Hudson the hero of their hoped-for romances. After weeks of receiving gifts—from candy to lingerie to things that make Callie blush—Hudson has had enough and tells Callie she needs to get her overzealous fans off his back. He smiles smugly and gives her two choices—delist the book or date him.
That was the moment Callie found herself in a fake relationship with a real-life book boyfriend.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

The Book Boyfriend is an absolute hoot! I can seriously see this book being a Hallmark movie. Callie and Hudson are great characters, and Carina Rose does a fantastic job of executing this strangers/enemies-to-lovers/fake relationship storyline.

Romance author Callie’s debut novel is a phenomenal success — but as her star rises, Hudson, businessman who happens to share the name of Callie’s hero finds that his life has become a disaster. Her fans have been sending him gifts, racing lingerie — and he wants it to stop. While Hudson initially wants Callie to take down her book, he has a bit of an a-ha moment and declares that Callie should pretend to be his girlfriend instead

As these two embark on a fake relationship, their adventures are hilarious. As Callie and Hudson fall for one another, and this clean romance has lots of heart and swoon. They both have some baggage that has them trying to protect their hearts, but as they open up to one another, there is a beautiful friendship that develops and eventually leads to love.

She also believes in insta-love, since she knew her husband was the one the first day she met him.

She’s a mother and wife and loves spending time with her family. She enjoys meeting new people, traveling, reading, watching sports, and, of course, relaxing on a beach.
Carina looks forward to sharing more love stories in her future novels.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I have been loving Kennedy Fox’s duets, and Archer and Everleigh’s story is a great addition to the Ex-Con series. Archer was Tyler’s cellmate in prison, and when he is released, Tyler gives him a job at his gym — and his sister Everleigh’s spare room. Their relationship is forbidden by her brother because Everleigh is a big-time flirt and a bit flighty, and Tyler wants Archer to get back on his feet with no distractions. But of course, Archer and Everleigh can only fight their attraction to one another for so long…

Everleigh has cracked me up since the beginning of this series, and I adored her rapport with Archer. Kennedy Fox did a great job of building a foundation for these characters through their friendship before anything physical happened between them. There are a few hookups along the way, but those come later in the book and it was worth waiting for the anticipation of them finally sleeping together!

There is always an element of suspense and danger in these duets, and Forcing You Away is no different. It ends on a major cliffhanger, and I have no idea who is behind the incident! Is it someone from Archer’s past? Or Everleigh’s? I really have no clue! I can’t wait to see how the second part of this duet wraps up Archer and Everleigh’s story!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I have read Shari Ryan’s contemporary romance novels as well as her historical fiction novels — and I am blown away every time. In all honesty, I am not a fan of historical fiction but I have read each one of Shari’s and The Bookseller of Dachau has to be one of my favorites so far. It is poignant, emotional, heartbreaking, and inspiring all at the same time.

Told in a dual timeline, The Bookseller begins with Grace (in 2018) discovering that she has inherited a property in Dachau from the grandmother she never knew of because her own mother had come to the US as an orphaned infant. In the second timeline, Matilda risks the safety of her family and her best friend to hide Hans from the Nazi soldiers who have taken over the city during the 1940s. The chapters alternate beautifully as Grace learns about her ancestry from Archie, who runs her late grandmother’s store. As they build a wonderful friendship in modern-day times, Tilly and Hans are clinging to their hopes for the future in the fearful world of years ago.

I don’t want to spill any details about this book. I mean, it is set during Nazi-run Germany, so you can imagine what much of Tilly and Hans’ storyline is about. Shari Ryan has penned a beautiful story in the one of the most heartbreaking moments of history.

The Bookseller of Dachau is a story that you won’t soon forget.

Savannah
A sexy, single dad and his teenage son weren’t a part of my white picket fence fairy tale, but if life has taught me anything, it’s that things don’t always work out according to plan.
Ben offers me no-strings-attached sex, but we could never be stringless.
He has a son to think about, one who’s very much a part of my life.
No matter how much I want to accept his offer, taking our relationship to the next level would leave us tangled in knots.

Benjamin
After experiencing firsthand the devastation love can cause, I knew having a family wasn’t for me. Neither was being a single dad—but here we are, trying to make it work.
The last thing I need is a distraction, but then Savannah waltzes into my world,
stealing my treadmill at the gym—as well as my son’s heart.
We agreed to no strings. No complications or commitments. But I’m going back on my word because now that I know what it’s like to be with Savannah, there’s no way I’m ever letting her go.

Author Kaylee Ryan – “A sweet and sexy single dad romance. No Strings is Nikki Ash at her finest. A must-read.”

Read.Review.Repeat Blog – “”I absolutely devoured this book. It obviously didn’t take me long to get lost in the storyline and apart from having to adult every now and then I basically read this book in one sitting.”

The Romantic Rush Blog – “Yet another sweet and heartfelt love story from the effortlessly charming writing of Nikki Ash.”

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

No Strings is a sexy, slow-burn, single dad, age-gap, fling romance. Savannah and Ben had a great connection. She was full of sass, and I loved that about her. She really got Ben to shed his layers, and grumpy Ben was kind of a softie when it came to her. Both Savannah and Ben have been burned by past partners, and while they are hesitant to get involved, it’s a beautiful, emotional journey as these two open up to one another and explore what a relationship together can look like.

While this is most definitely a no-strings-attached fling that turns into something so much deeper between Savannah and Ben, it’s a slow burn between the characters as they explore the sizzling chemistry between them before hitting the sheets. But once they do, that chemistry explodes!

I also adored the friendship between Savannah and Ben’s teenaged son, Brody. They had a lovely connection all on their own, and I liked the way that was written as well as how Savannah guided Brody along when it came to fixing the fractures in his relationship with his dad.

No Strings is an entertaining page-turner. And amid all the swoony and sweet moments, Nikki ASh beautifully weaves in some heavier topics that certainly pull on your heartstrings. She blends those emotional moments so nicely with the more lighthearted ones, providing the perfect amount of angst to this story. Definitely a book I will be coming back to for a re-read!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3.5 Stars

Save Me is a steamy, sexy, relationship pact/roommates romance between a dirty-talking hero who has shied away from relationships and a shy heroine who can’t help but notice how hot and sweet her alpha new roommate is.

I haven’t read any of the other books in the Phoenix series, so I knew nothing of Hazel and Kieran going into Save Me. Much of the story is centered around Hazel and Kieran being the single ones in the group, and spending time together as their friends are preparing to get married. With his friends marrying off, Kieran is realizing how lonely he really is. Hazel is a sweet, caring heroine, the type who always puts everyone else ahead of herself. Her self-confidence is shot thanks to a crappy ex, so when Kieran offers to help her explore her sexuality in exchange for her showing him what women want in a relationship, she’s all in.

While it starts out as a pact, it’s not long before these two fall into a real relationship — without even realizing it. Kieran likes to talk dirty in the bedroom (or at the sex club) but he’s so caring and sweet and charming when it’s just the two of them at home. But when life throws them a curveball, will Kieran ride out the feelings he’s developed for Hazel or tap out?

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Kandi!

A Love Letter To Whiskey is one of my all-time favorite books, and I’m pretty sure it’s the first book of Kandi Steiner’s that I’d read. Ever since, I’ve used it as my benchmark for angst. But as much as I loved ALLTW, I felt like I needed more. Specifically, Jamie’s side.

Well, the 5th-anniversary edition of ALLTW includes a bonus novella from Jamie’s POV! I binged Love, Whiskey last night and it was everything that I could have asked for!!! I loved every bit of Jamie’s side of events. It covers the highs and lows of his relationship with B, and I loved seeing how things got so screwed up between them from his side and what happened after B’s epilogue. It was perfection!

This special edition also includes bonus content: a letter from the audiobook narrator, and two letters written by Jamie that KS had included in special newsletters. It all added to the perfection that is Jamie and B!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Head Over Feels by S.L. Scott

Release Date: October 15

My approach to dating has served me well.

No hassles.

No strings.

No heartache.

As a prominent divorce attorney and Manhattan’s most eligible bachelor, I’m as sought after in the courtroom as I am in the bedroom. Winning in both arenas is my specialty.

The only thing I ever lost was the nerve to tell the girl of my dreams how I felt about her. Seven years later, I might be getting the opportunity when she moves into my spare bedroom.

Though I used to laugh at the notion of love, her bright blue eyes, soft heart, and quick wit has me . . . feeling things. New emotions.

And I’m starting to realize that if there’s one woman who can change my confirmed bachelor ways, it’s Tealey Bell, aka my Achilles’ heel.

So when did it all go wrong?

For that answer, we must go back to beginning when I promised one friend a favor and fell head over feels for another.

Excerpt

A gentle knock on the door has me sitting up in bed. “Yes?”

“You still up?” Rad whispers from the other side of the door.

Not sure what he’s doing here, I push off the bed and answer it, leaning my cheek against the painted wood. “Hi.”

He smiles. “Hi. The day got away from me before I could talk to you.”

“About anything specifically?” My stomach flutters with the butterflies I brought in from the beach.

His gaze drops to our feet. Everything slows when his eyes meet mine again, and he says, “I’ve been thinking about you.”

I lick my lips and swallow as my spine straightens, not wanting to be slouching during such a confession. Gripping the door, I ask, “You have?”

“I have, and I was thinking . . . wondering . . . Well, I haven’t exactly used words to show you what I’m thinking. And I want to change that. I’ve held back in fear of you saying no. But I’ve been thinking about us and the possibility of more. More of us.” He looks down briefly, and if I didn’t know Rad as well as I do, I’d think he was nervous. But then he looks back up with no hesitation. “I want to know if you’ve been thinking about me . . . aboutus . . . like that as well?”

Do I confess my sin? Tell him how I’ve started to fantasize about him? What turns him on and hoping that damn towel would drop? And that with every touch, cuddle, and smile, I’ve felt more and more attracted to him?

Or do I shut this conversation down and bury my feelings in the sand tomorrow when I go to the beach?

His eyes search mine in earnest, so I say, “I . . .” I take a quick breath and exhale. “I have thought about you. A lot, in fact.” I didn’t know I could shock Rad, but I managed it.

“Really?”

I’ll blame the alcohol tonight for my slippery tongue and deal with the repercussions in the morning. “Terribly naughty thoughts.

“Even Better.”

It’s also one where the guy falls first, but he is in a fake relationship with another one of their friends, and the secrets he’s keeping from both women could destroy the best thing that’s ever happened to him.

Tealey and Rad have such a great connection. I love that they are part of this bigger group of friends and have liked each other since college but never acted on it. When she loses her apartment, he invites her to move in with him and before long, they both give in to the feelings they have. But because Rad has agreed to pose as Marlow’s fake boyfriend to help her out with her dad, and in return, he’d be making inroads to a partnership at his law firm. Because of the situation with Marlow, Tealey and Rad agree to keep their budding relationship on the DL — which that leads to all kinds of problems for the couple.

I really enjoyed this story. It had humor, heart, heat, and swoon. I liked both characters as individuals and how Tealey and Rad were together. She really did bring out something bigger in him, and helped him see that there is more to life than winning the next case and making partner. They balanced each other out nicely, and had an easygoing rapport.

This book is a spinoff of SL Scott’s Manhattan series — One of the friends in the group is Jackson St. James, the brother of Natalie from Never Got Over You. I loved the shocking news dropped between Jackson and Marlow at the end of Head Over Feels and can’t wait to see what comes next for these friends!!!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Meet S.L. Scott
New York Times and USA Bestselling Author, S. L. Scott, was always interested in the arts. She grew up painting, writing poetry and short stories, and wiling her days away lost in a good book and the movies.
With a degree in Journalism, she continued her love of the written word by reading American authors like Salinger and Fitzgerald.

She was intrigued by their flawed characters living in picture perfect worlds, but could still debate that the worlds those characters lived in were actually the flawed ones.
This dynamic of leaving the reader invested in the words, inspired Scott to start writing with emotion while interjecting an underlying passion into her own stories.

Living in the capital of Texas with her family, Scott loves traveling and avocados, beaches, and cooking with her kids. She’s obsessed with epic romances and loves a good plot twist. She dreams of seeing one of her own books made into a movie one day as well as returning to Europe. Her favorite color is blue, but she likens it more toward the sky than the emotion. Her home is filled with the welcoming symbol of the pineapple and finds surfing a challenge though she likes to think she’s a pro.
