Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Stepbrother romances have always been my secret favorites and I loved everything about Molly and Aiden’s story! This is the first book I’ve read by Dyan Lane and I loved it! Usually, 3rd person POV isn’t my favorite, but she did a great job of telling the story from both characters’ sides.

I loved how we got to know Molly and Aiden from the time they were kids and I felt like I was there with them as their feelings for each other changed. They have an immediate connection, and she gets him more than anyone else does, even if he can’t speak. Both of these characters are so tortured and by trying to keep his distance, Aiden breaks both of their hearts.

There was an unexpected twist in this story that could have gone badly. But thankfully, this story has a wonderful ending and it left me feeling all warm and fuzzy.

About the Author

Dyan Layne is a nurse boss by day and the writer of edgy sensual tales by night–and on weekends. Serenity, the first book in the Red Door series, is her debut novel. She’s never without her Kindle, and can usually be found tapping away at her keyboard with a hot latte and a cold Dasani Lime–and sometimes champagne. She can’t sing a note, but often answers in song because isn’t there a song for just about everything? Born and raised a Chicago girl, she currently lives in Tampa, Florida, and is the mother of four handsome sons and a beautiful daughter, who are all grown up now, but can still make her crazy–and she loves it that way! Because normal is just so boring.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Beauty and the Baller by Ilsa Madden-Mills

“A sexy, fun romance from an author who always delivers.” —Kirkus Reviews

Beauty and the Baller, an all-new moving and smoking hot fake relationship standalone romance from Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills is available now!

An NFL quarterback turned small-town coach gets sacked by a Texas beauty queen in this swoony, passionate romance from Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills.

Gorgeous, talented, and brilliant, NFL quarterback Ronan Smith has the world in his hands. But after losing his career and his fiancée in a car accident, he falls into a pit of grief and bad choices. When a mysterious girl shows up to his party, he feels drawn to her and makes her his…for one night.

Former beauty queen Nova Morgan is on a mission. Scantily clad as a princess from a galaxy far, far away, she sneaks into a high-profile party to capture the attention of her favorite quarterback. But her hopes crash after an awful one-night stand.

Fast-forward two years. Broke and desperate, Nova returns home to Blue Belle, Texas, where, by a cosmic twist of fate, her broody neighbor is none other than Ronan, the shiny new football coach everyone adores. But he has no idea who she is.

The booster club keeps shoving women at Ronan to keep him in town. His solution? He proposes fake dating to Nova. But things heat up for real under these Friday-night lights when he realizes she’s the one who slipped away.

Has this jaded beauty found her forever baller, or will his past keep them apart?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Tortured pro athlete. Former beauty queen. One-night stand. Fake relationship. Passion, swoon, antics, and great supporting characters. Beauty and the Baller has it all! I loved Ronan and Nova’s story and how far he’s come by the end of the book from the grief-stricken guy we meet at first.

Their first encounter is memorable to both of them but for very different reasons — for Ronan, it was the night he realized he needed to get his life back together and move past the death of his fiance. For Nova, him calling her his dead fiance’s name wasn’t a highlight of her life. When they end up being next-d00r neighbors two years later when Nova moves back home to take care of her teenaged sister, will Ronan get a chance to make up to the one that got away?

Well, first he has to fake-date Nova to get the matchmaking ladies of Blue Bell and a jealous former fling off his back. It works well for Nova as well now that she’s also working with the high school boyfriend who broke her heart. Amid all the fake dates, Nova and Ronan realize that they just may be each other’s perfect match. But will Ronan’s future plans destroy their chance at a future together?

This book is definitely binge-able! It’s a feel-good second chance romance with lots of heart and heat. I loved the side romance between Skeeter and Sonia and would love to see a story about them!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Say It’s Forever by A.L. Jackson

Say It’s Forever
A Close Proximity, Single Parent Romance from A.L. Jackson
Available Now on Amazon and Free with Kindle Unlimited

My loves! It is HERE! I am so excited to share SAY IT’S FOREVER with the world! I’m so in love with these beautiful characters, and I can’t wait for you to fall in love with them, too!
“Oh my heart and my soul……this book took both and I’m never getting them back!”
-Melissa ❤️ bookaddict_fanatic
“Dark, gritty and undeniably sexy, this romance stole my heart and didn’t let go until the very end.”
-Kelly, Goodreads Reviewer
TITLE: SAY IT’S FOREVER
RELEASE DATE: MARCH 28TH, 2022
Synopsis
From NYT and USA Today bestselling author A.L. Jackson comes a close proximity, single-parent stand-alone romance about a woman on the run and the man who will do anything to save her…
Jud Lawson found me stranded in the rain.
Broken down on the side of the road in a deserted neighborhood with my piece of crap car.
I wasn’t looking for a hero, and definitely not one who looks like him.
An obscenely hot, mountain-of-a-man who screams danger.
But I have little choice other than climbing onto the back of his bike.
One look at Salem Aguilar, and I’m hooked.
The girl is devastation wrapped in a black, seductive bow.
A knockout.
A dream.
Turns out, she needs a job, and I need the help.
Now I have a vixen strutting around my shop, and I’m the fool who’s itching to reach out and take what he can’t have.
But neither of us can ignore the burning attraction.
The fire that leads to a kiss.
A kiss that has us falling into my bed.
The connection that has me wanting the one thing I’d never thought I could have again.
Because monsters like me don’t deserve love.
Only Salem has a secret, too.
She’s been running for years, and her past just caught up to us…

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars
Say It’s Forever is a wonderful exploration of two broken people, running from the demons of their pasts, learning how to lean on one another to trust again. And finding a magical love along the way. Salem and Jud’s story is intense and raw, and they both are carrying around so much baggage. But together, they let down those walls and find hope amid their past heartache.

Salem is such a fierce heroine, even though she sees herself as damaged and weak. She’s been running from her ex for years, trying to protect her daughter, and has forever been looking over her shoulder. She finds a family of friends she never expected in Redemption, but is she wrong to let her guard down when she’s hiding from the terrible danger lurking in her past? Meanwhile, Jud thinks he must forever repent for the sins of his past and the bad things he’s done. But Salem sees him for the man he is, not the actions of his past. Can she make him see that he is worthy of being loved?

This book is set in the Redemption series but is a standalone. There are crossover characters, though, and we get a lot more of Jud’s brothers — and a peek at Trent and Eden’s next steps in their life together. I also liked getting to know Salem’s brother, Darius, and would love to see him find his match. The scene-stealers in this book are Salem’s daughter, Juni, and Jud’s nephew, Gage. They are so cute together as new best friends! I know they are kinda cousins via marriage, but I am totally shipping a Juni/Gage relationship down the road!

I listened to this book on audio, and Joe Arden and Andi Arndt beautifully brought AL Jackson’s story to life!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars
I adored this sweet book! Single mom Frankie is struggling to keep things afloat by working as an exotic dancer named Birdie. One particular customer catches her eye and makes her feel things she probably shouldn’t… So imagine her surprise when he turns out to be Orion, the brother of her new roommate, Stella… And Orion is moving into their house.

I really loved the way LK Farlow wrote Frankie and O’s friendship. He is so sweet and supportive of Frankie, not having any idea that she’s his stripper, Bluebird. (OMG, the scene where he breaks off his VIP dances with Bluebird because he’s interested in someone else, not knowing that he was speaking with Frankie… my favorite scene!) There really is a genuine friendship that forms between these two long before anything else happens, and I felt them falling in love with one another long before they ever even kissed.

Little Maverick was just adorable, and the bond he forms with Orion was super sweet. Mav wasn’t just part of the story as a prop; he had an integral part in connecting Frankie with Orion. Also, I thought the development of the relationship between O and Mav was built just as nicely as the romantic one between O and Frankie.

Pretty Little Thing is a standalone set in the same world as Sweet Little Nothing (Emmy and Sterling’s story, which I devoured) and Dirty Little Secret (Stella and Samson) — I missed Stella’s story somehow, but loved Emmy’s appearance during girls’ night. PLT is a standalone, and while Stella and Sampson are a big part of the story as supporting players, it is not necessary to have read DLS first.

What Lovers Do is an amazing friends-to-lovers/secret relationship book. *Chef’s Kiss*

I adored everything about Shep and Sophie. From the moment of their meet-cute to becoming friends, then becoming best friends (wink, wink), and their friendship imploding over and over again… I was cheering this couple on every step of the way.

Sophie was so selfless, always putting others first. I wanted to smack girlfriend upside the head when it came to her ex/squatter Jimmy more than once, but I loved how big-hearted she was. And Shep! Poor dude just wanted someone he could build a life with. He thought he could be building that with Sophie, despite all of her omissions about her personal life. But then everything spectacularly smacked him in the face just as they crossed that line from acting like friends to doing what lovers do…

I don’t want to give too many details surrounding *why* Sophie can’t get involved with Shep. She has valid reasons. And the guy has a patience of a saint. But when feelings get involved and they both fall in love, will that love be worth waiting for until the time is right? Well, the epilogue made me cry big happy tears, so yes.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: My Biggest Break by T. Gephart

Title: My Biggest Break
Series: Crazy in Love #2
Author: T. Gephart
Genre: Contemporary Romantic Comedy
Release Date: March 18, 2022

Vision boards and positivity were great, except when you’re late for a big audition and the director was literally the worst.
Oh, Jagger Hartley was young, talented, exceptionally good-looking with a famous last name, but that’s about all he had going for him.
If only he’d known Belle Mathews wasn’t the kind of woman who’d take no for an answer, and she was going to finish her audition even if she had to take him hostage.
Which she kinda did . . . oops!
But even a hijacked meeting under duress couldn’t overshadow how gifted Belle was—a born star who belonged on stage.
Pity he was crazy attracted to both her undeniable beauty and her generous heart.
So he was either going to be her biggest break, or she was going to his.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

I loved Belle when I met her in My Greatest Mistake, which is her sister Zara’s book. Getting to know here better in My Biggest Break — she’s quirky, feisty, adorable, and I loved her as a heroine! Oh yeah, I loved Jagger too! He has been burned before because of who his family is, and he is so closed-off and a major control freak. Everything in his orbit spins out of control from the moment he meets Belle, and he doesn’t know what side is up anymore. These two get off on the wrong foot, but their story is hilarious and heartfelt and they balanced each other out so perfectly!

The banter between Belle and Jagger had me laughing out loud. The push and pull was perfectly balanced, and surly Jagger turned out to be quite the mush. Tina Gephart really knocked it out of the park with these two. My Biggest Break is a perfect romcom escape. I’m a fan of Tina’s books, and I definitely would rank this one near the top of my list of favorites!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Wright That Got Away by K.A. Linde

A sexy second chance rockstar romance set in the world of the Wrights about Campbell & Blaire from USA Today bestselling author K.A. Linde…

Campbell Abbey is the lead singer of the biggest band in the universe right now.

He’s also the boy I fell in love with in high school when no one knew my name.

Now, I have a million followers, teach girls every day how to love themselves and get over that boy that wronged them.

If only I could take my own advice…and not still pine for the Wright that got away.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars
Wright That Got Away is a steamy, emotional, heartfelt second-chance romance. Campbell broke Blaire’s heart back in high school when he left her behind to follow his musical dreams. He’s become a huge success, and she’s a successful social media influencer in her own right. Now he’s back home in Texas trying to work on his next album, but having zero luck. Will he find his muse in Blaire?

There are a lot of ups and downs between these two. He hurt her so badly. She’s carried that betrayal and sadness all these years so Blaire is very hesitant to give Campbell a second chance. Because they are so interconnected with their family and friends, it’s impossible for her to ignore him. The hurt she felt about Campbell leaving her behind wasn’t just because she got dumped. It was the start of so much more for this poor girl, and my heart broke for her. I have to say, I thought Campbell was a bit arrogant and didn’t want to like him, but I warmed up to him because he really went all out to regain her trust.

But we love a happy ending, and these two were able to move past the pain and hurt and find a way to move forward!

This book is a bit of a next-generation crossover in the Wright Vineyard series within the Wright family series by KA Linde. While there are connected characters, Blaire and Campbell’s story is a standalone. I have read some of the Wright books here and there, and did not feel like I was missing out on backstory.

I received a complimentary copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: A False Start by Elsie Silver

“My special brand of hell. But I want you so badly I don’t even mind the flames.”

A False Start, an all-new small-town, brother’s best friend romance from bestselling author Elsie Silver is available now!

I kissed my best friend’s little sister, and the world stood still.
That night we were two perfect strangers, the town’s grumpy recluse and a gorgeous girl in the back of a bar.
Until we weren’t.
Because Nadia Dalca isn’t just some girl. She’s the girl I can’t have. Fourteen years younger than me and completely off-limits.
My plan is to stay away, but the universe keeps pushing us together. It’s like some sort of cosmic joke, to give me a taste of something so electric—so real—something that breathed life back into me.
Because I can look, but I can’t touch.
Her sinful curves, her light-hearted laughter, her wild side . . . I’m addicted to every last bit of her.
And when she turns those sultry eyes on me––the ones so full of longing and so free of judgment? I’ve always considered myself a strong man. But when she looks at me I’m weak.
To give in to our connection would be a betrayal. My life is beyond complicated, and she has the world at her fingertips. Her brother is the only family she has left, and sad as it sounds, he’s also my only friend.
But I kissed her again anyway.
And now I can’t stop.

Excerpt

Nadia and I walk silently down the hallway toward the elevator.
Coffee with my parents turned out to be nice. Once they both settled down a bit and everyone had their extremely involved cups of coffee in hand, the conversation flowed easily. The dog curled up on my mother’s lap and was snoring happily in no time. And I didn’t even stumble over my words, which was a nice change.
I expected taking Nadia to my parents’ place would give her some perspective. What I didn’t expect was for her to fit in so seamlessly. I didn’t expect it to feel like something else entirely, like she’s the missing piece of the puzzle.
My dad invited her golfing with him for crying out loud. My mom is sending her links for where to purchase a special kettle so she can start making pour-over coffee too. She wasn’t supposed to be funny and charming and make my parents welcome her into the fold of our family unit like she’s some long-standing friend.
But Nadia is funny and charming. Her energy is infectious. It’s like she makes everyone around her happier.
Even the dog is enamored.
Everyone except me is now officially calling him Tripod. And I’m pretty sure my parents are in love with Nadia and think grandbabies are on the way, no matter how many times I assured them we’re just friends.
I tossed the word friend in everywhere I could, as well as emphasizing our age difference a few times. It didn’t stop my dad from whispering in my ear when he gave me a parting hug. “Methinks the lady doth protest too much.”
So, I poked him in the stomach. “Getting soft, old man.”
Then my mom went from whispering something in Nadia’s ear to piping up and saying, “Hardly.”
Gag. That was my cue to leave. I latched Tripod to his leash with one hand and grabbed Nadia’s bicep with the other and dragged us all out of there, tossing a promise to visit again soon over my shoulder.
I always look forward to visiting with my parents, but I have never brought any woman home with me, and I severely underestimated their ability to play it cool.
We stand silently at the bank of elevators, and I watch the floor numbers light up as it speeds toward us. Nadia slants her head toward me, eyeing the place where I’m still holding her bicep.
Truth is, I don’t want to let her go. I’m comforted by how well she rolled with the punches in there. My parents were acting totally insane, and she seemed like she was enjoying the hell out of it.
“That’s a firm grip you’ve got there.” Her eyes flick up to my profile because I’m still trying not to look at her. “Am I in trouble, Mr. Sinclaire?”
“Nadia.” My tone is full of warning. It makes me sound old and creepy when she calls me Mr. Sinclaire.
“What?” She stares openly now and when those elevator doors slide open, I pull her into the blissfully empty elevator with me, eager to put as much space as possible between my parents and what I’m about to do.
She hums in amusement as the doors slide shut, clearly enjoying agitating me.
The minute the doors close, my hand with the leash darts out and slams into the red emergency stop button. And then I turn, drop the leash, and press Nadia up against the mirrored wall of the elevator, one hand still on her upper arm while the other slides across the taper of her waist. Her eyes widen, but she doesn’t cower. In fact, she looks downright pleased.
“What, Griffin?” she taunts as my jaw pops under the pressure of my teeth grinding.
This woman tests every piece of patience I possess. I should step away from her, take my hands off her. I should keep this side of myself under wraps from her.
She’s been roughed up enough in her life. The last thing she needs is me man-handling her. And I would manhandle the hell out of her. She’d love it. There’s no doubt about that. I’ve had no complaints in that department. Quite the opposite, in fact. But gentle I am not. Making love I don’t do.
“Say it.” Her free hand lands on the waistband of my jeans, and my body goes tense. She slides her dainty fingers beneath the front of my shirt, trailing a nail over the ridge of my hip bone, forcing a low ache to take hold at the base of my spine.
If I don’t get control of this and stop it now, I’ll be taking her against the wall of this elevator. Which is not what she needs.
I shoot back like I just touched a hot stove, pressing myself against the opposite wall, trying to put as much space between us as I can while being locked in this box of temptation. My breathing comes in quick frustrated pants. “Call my dad and me Mr. Sinclaire within a few minutes of each other again and—”
“And what, Griffin? You gonna spank me for that, too?” Her top teeth press down into her pillowy bottom lip. “Or are you going to kiss me again and then tell me I’m a mistake?”
A low rumble takes root in my chest. My entire body is rigid, my will to stay away from her melting with every second I spend staring at her. The imprint of her fingers still burns on my abs.
I need to get the hell away from her. The last thing I need to do is torpedo what little semblance of happiness I’ve created in my life by not being able to keep it in my pants around Nadia Dalca.
My hand slams into the red button, and we lurch back into motion.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Griffin and Nadia’s story is so much more than just an age gap/grumpy-sunshine/brother’s best friend romance. These two characters are incredibly broken, and this book deals with a lot of sensitive subjects. I found the book to be well-written and the story engaging, and both characters showed a lot of growth over the course of the book.

I will say that I found Griffin’s stuttering due to a traumatic brain injury (stemming from his days as a pro football player) to be a surprise. I found it endearing that being around Nadia made him calmer and less stressed, and she didn’t make a big deal of his stutter at all. The big issue between them is his addiction to alcohol, as well as the ghosts from both of their pasts.

A False Start is book 4 in the Gold Rush Ranch series. The books are all standalones with interconnecting characters. However, I’ve jumped around this series a bit and did not read The Front Runner (her brother/his best friend’s Stefan’s story), and I feel that’s partly why I didn’t connect with Nadia and Griffin as much? I didn’t get to know them there first? While I liked this story, I just didn’t feel the intense connection between Nadia and Griffin that I was hoping for. The last two chapters brought it home, but I still felt that it was lacking something that made the difference between this being 4 stars and not 5 stars.

Excerpt

She crooks a finger, beckoning me closer. But there’s only six inches separating us. If I take a step forward, my boots will touch her toes. So I bend instead, until my ear is next to her lips, like I’m waiting for her to tell me a secret.
For a moment I consider the fact that I’ve been up and down the stairs to the loft at least a dozen times. The only air circulation in here is from a portable fan, so I’ve been sweating and shirtless for several hours. I might not smell all that fresh.
But that thought disappears when her fingertips drag along my collarbone and I feel the warmth of her breath at the edge of my jaw.
“Aaron.”
Her palm wraps around the back of my neck. So soft. So warm.
I swallow and grind out, “I’m listening.”
Her thumb finds that spot between my ear and my jaw, and she presses, gently at first and then more firmly. Her lips brush the shell of my ear, and she whispers, “Look at me.”
I feel like a marionette, and she’s pulling all my strings. I turn my head toward her, and her lips brush across my cheek, sending a hot shiver down my spine, lighting me up like a pinball machine.
Teagan Firestone is a dangerous woman. Sweet, beautiful, broken, and yet . . . bold and resilient. She’s a lethal combination, and it’s all compounded when those soft lips meet mine.
I don’t even know what’s happening. Well, I know. I’m kissing her. Or she’s kissing me. She definitely started it.
It’s like an explosion. Like an entire warehouse of firecrackers igniting at the same time. I groan into her mouth and wrap an arm around her waist, pulling her flush against me.
Our tongues tangle, and her other hand grips my biceps, sliding up and over my shoulder. She knocks my hat off my head, and it drops to the floor behind me. And then both of her hands are in my hair, sliding through the damp strands, gripping at the crown, angling my head farther to the side. Deepening the kiss.
Dragging it out.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

It took me a little longer to get into Love on the Lake than it did with Love Next Door… but once I got into Teagen and Aaron’s story, I was hooked. This book has the same Hallmark movie feel as LND, and I am loving this Lakeside series!

Teagen is Van’s sister from LND, and Aaron is one of Van and Dillon’s colleagues. Aaron and Teagen definitely get off on the wrong foot, and it leads to the town flirt being all surly and grumpy around this ray of sunshine. Until he’s not. Swoon! Underneath that anger was an adorable teddy bear of a guy.

But Teagen and Aaron’s path to forever is kinda bumpy. The guy is hiding some big secrets, and Teagen has a plethora of baggage stemming from her family’s financial problems. I loved how Teagen tried to adjust to being working class after growing up a spoiled princess. She definitely made the most of it, trying to find herself and what she liked, and now appreciating all the things that she used to take for granted. Aaron was great in guiding her along the way, trying to get her to stop feeling guilty about where she came from and to embrace the person she is becoming.

This book starts out rather lighthearted, but the second half packs quite a punch. Aaron’s secrets come to light, and Teagen’s demons threaten to destroy everything she’s built for herself in her new home. This story took a turn I wasn’t expecting with the deeper plotline in the second half, but I was rooting for Aaron and Teagen all the way and was so happy to see them come through the other side.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Fair Catch by Kandi Steiner

Fair Catch by Kandi Steiner is now live!

As if things aren’t already tough enough as the only girl on a college football team, Coach had to go and assign Zeke Collins as my roommate.

A cocky kick returner and my brother’s best friend who should have been ripped of that title years ago, he’s as infuriating as he is undeniably sexy.

I hate him, and for good reason — reason I won’t ever let him forget.

He thinks because we grew up together that it’s his role to protect me, but all he does is get in my way, make me look weak, and piss me off more.

I tell him I can handle myself, and I’m hell-bent on getting that point across to him and the rest of the nation watching the only girl in collegiate football.

The pressure doesn’t get to me. The scrutiny? I’m ready for.

But sharing very thin walls with Zeke Collins? I wasn’t prepared for that.

And the more we’re forced together, the harder it is to distinguish that pencil-thin line between hating him… and wanting him.

 Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Fair Catch ticked off all the boxes for an enjoyable enemies-to-lovers, roommate romance. I loved the twist on this sports trope — Riley plays for a multigender football team! Add in the history that she and Zeke share with him being her brother’s best friend and acting like an overprotective brother himself, and Fair Catch is an instant page-turner.

Kandi Steiner always writes intriguing characters, heroes and heroines that are easy to root for. She also has a great way of giving her heroes a vulnerable side, and I loved getting to know more about Zeke. There is so much more to him than meets the eye, and once Riley gets over her disdain for her brother’s overprotective best friend, their relationship truly blossoms.

Kandi Steiner is an Amazon Top 5 bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.”

She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.

When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, planning her next adventure, or pole dancing (yes, you read that right). She enjoys live music, traveling, playing with her fur babies and soaking up the sweetness of life.
