Series: Everything’s Better #3

Author: Lucy Eden
Genre: Contemporary Romantic Comedy

When I first noticed Lisa Betancourt, she threatened me with
a baseball bat.
To be fair, I deserved it.
But none of that mattered when I found out I had a baby
brother—a brother who is now left to my care. Too bad I don’t know the first
thing about parenting. If I have any hope of not ruining this poor kid’s life,
I need Lisa’s help. She quickly becomes my salvation, my heart. And even though
our timing is all wrong, I can’t help but wonder how I can convince her to stay
with me—with us—forever.
Cole Simmons is just my insensitive jerk of a neighbor.
Or, that’s all he used to be.
Now he’s in completely over his head, taking care of an
adorable child that I’m getting way too attached to way too
fast. And the scary part? I’m starting to get attached to Cole, too. After my
nasty divorce, I was sure I’d never risk falling in love
again—but Cole has me questioning my resolve at every turn. Frankly, I’m
starting to wonder if Cole isn’t the only one who is in completely over his
head.
Neither of them was looking for love or a ready-made family.
But what will they do when they realize they’ve stumbled head-long into both?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

I’m a sucker for a cute neighbor romance, so Cole and Lisa are my jam. Add in a baby to stir things up, and reading Everything’s Better With Lisa was quite an enjoyable way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon.

But this is not a fun-filled story. Cole and Lisa both have a troubled past, and lots of obstacles to overcome and demons to deal with. Lucy Eden does a great job in handling issues like drug use, adoption, infertility, cheating, etc very well in telling Cole and Lisa’s story. There is so much more to them than suddenly being the caregiver of the infant brother he never knew, relying on the bartender next door to be his nanny. It works, but there’s a lot OF work that they put into it first.

I have not read the previous books in the Everything’s Better series. While the characters from the previous books play a part, I felt like Lisa read just fine as a standalone. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt
“So, that happened.” I tucked my bottom lip between my teeth
and raised my eyebrows.

“It definitely did.” He rolled me on top of him so he could kiss me again. “Are
you having regrets?”

“Definitely not, but—”

“Is this where you tell me that even though we spent the last,” he checked his
watch, “fifteen minutes having the best sex I’ve ever had, during which I made
you come three,”

I held up four fingers, grinning,

“Oh, excuse me, four times. It was a bad decision and we should never do it
again?”

“Cole…”

“Lisa, I’m probably going to lose my job tomorrow and CJ’s gonna wake up any
minute. Can we just enjoy this moment?”

A wide grin split my face. “The best sex you’ve ever had?”

“That’s what I said.”

“Okay,” I held his face in my hands and kissed him. “Let’s enjoy this moment.”

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Someday, Someday, by Emma Scott

Someday Someday - RB banner.jpg

How long would you wait for true love?

Someday, Someday, an all-new standalone romance by International bestselling author Emma Scott, is LIVE!

Copy of SDSDFINAL Ebook (3) (1) (1).jpg

Max Kaufman was kicked out of his home as a teen and his life has been an uphill battle ever since. From addiction and living on the streets, to recovery and putting himself through nursing school, he’s spent the last ten years rebuilding his shattered sense of self. Now he’s taken a job as a private caretaker to Edward Marsh III, the president and CEO of one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. Max soon learns Marsh’s multi-billion-dollar empire is a gold and diamond-encrusted web of secrets and lies.

The longer Max works and lives with the Marsh family, the tighter the secrets tangle around him. And his heart—that he’s worked so hard to protect—falls straight into the hands of the distant, cold, and beautiful son of a dynasty…

Silas Marsh is set to inherit the family fortune, but his father is determined his heir be the “perfect” son. Before Silas can take over the company and end its shady business practices, he must prove himself worthy…and deny his true nature.

Silas must choose: stand up to his father by being true to himself and his undeniable feelings for Max. Or pretend to be someone he is not in order to inherit everything. Even if it means sacrificing a chance at happiness and real love.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I haven’t read an Emma Scott book yet where I didn’t fall in absolute love with the characters, and her first M/M romance is no different. Silas and Max are… everything. They are such rich characters, and their story is so complex. Heartbreaking and sorrowful, and full of passion and trauma, all at the same time.

Silas is broken mess of a man, and Max tries to get him to see his worth. See that he’s more than who he’s been told he should be. Their journey isn’t an easy one, and Emma Scott brilliantly weaves together the romance amid a backdrop of abuse, mental illness and so much more. This book was not an easy one to read, and it left me with a major book hangover. But Someday, Someday is a remarkable story of hope, unconditional love and finding your person in the most unlikely of circumstances.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Beautiful, Fragile is simply beautiful! This book is a stark reminder of how life can change in an instant, and how deep the bonds of love run.

My heart broke for Faith and what she went through. And while I at first didn’t like Will, I began to see him in a different light. He was desperately trying to hold his family together (and no small feat, with three children) when his wife had no memory of the life they shared. There is a rollercoaster of emotions in this book, Will and Faith’s struggle is raw and painful, as they both realize how beautiful and fragile love is. Will was a rock, a devoted husband and father fighting a losing battle at times, but refused to give up.

As a mom myself, Faith’s situation hit me hard. Get some tissues ready when you read this, because you will need them. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt
“I want you
to remember, Faith,” he said softly. “I want you to remember all the good times
and leave out the bad ones.”
“I don’t
think I get to pick and choose.”
“We both
did things we weren’t proud of. Things that I’d be happy for you to forget. But
if it comes back to you, I want you to know that I’m sorry. It was my fault.”
I wanted to
ask him what we’d done, what awful things we’d put each other through. But I
was afraid to know. Maybe, in some ways, my memory loss was a blessing. All the
bad things had been wiped clean while for Will, he had to live with them each
day, had to remember every word, every hurtful action.
I leant in
closer and rested my head on his chest. At first his body stiffened, then he
relaxed, put his arm around me and held me close.
We laid
like that for a time while something skimmed the sky high above us.
“Look a
shooting star,” he said.
“The
International Space Station.”
“Show off.”
I giggled.
Then he bent his head, put his lips on mine and kissed me.

Sometimes you meet people who are out of this world, so you make them a part of yours.

A one-night stand born from vengeance in a foreign land.

An explosive chemistry neither of us could deny.

We signed a contract on the back of a Boar’s Head Pub napkin that said if we ever met again, we would drop everything and be together.

Eight years and thousands of miles later, he’s here.

In New York.

And he’s America’s music obsession.

The intangible Irish poet who brings record executives to their knees.

The blizzard in my perfect, unshaken snow globe.

Last time we spoke, he was a beggar with no intention of becoming a king.

But a king he became, and now I’m his servant.

I’m not the same broken princess Malachy Doherty put back together with his callused hands.

I have a career I love.

A boyfriend I adore.

An apartment, a roommate, a life.

I changed. He changed, too.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Napkin-Worthy Stars

In The Unlikely Event is a marriage-pact, second-chance romance unlike any other I’ve ever read. Eight years ago, Mal and Rory spend a whirlwind 24 hours together and vow, on a napkin, that if they ever run into one another again, they reunite. No matter what.

Eight years later, Mal walks back into Rory’s life and turns it upside down. But he’s out for revenge, determined to destroy her life the way that she ruined his. But there are so many secrets between them, and what each of them were led to believe was far from the truth. When the whole, ugly, sordid truth comes out, it is heartbreaking for both of them. What Kathleen did to Mal was just wrong on so many levels, and the lies that Rory was told about her dad led to a twist I didn’t expect.

In the end, it is a long and winding road, but the heartbreak and pain and misery that exist in both of their lives lead Rory and Mal together. From the moment they met, they were destined to be together. LJ Shen doesn’t take a traditional route to take the hero and heroine there, but they get there. Along with the POV of the napkin, her wicked sister, and multiple other supporting characters!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt

When I finally come face to face with the street artist standing on the side of the pavement, his guitar case open and full of rolled-up notes and change, I understand why his grandfather told me I’d recognize him with the self-assurance of an avid believer.

I’ve never seen someone like him before.

He is beautiful, true, but that’s not what stands out to me. He is radiant.

It’s like his presence has a presence. He sucks the air out of everything in his vicinity, making it impossible not to look at him. Malachy is tailor-made for a huge, colossal heartbreak. Everything about him—his tattered jeans, filthy boots, white shirt, and leather jacket that was broken in decades ago—screams trouble. He looks like a seventies heartthrob. An icon. A Terry Richardson muse. Bruce Springsteen pre-fame.

His voice is like honey and warm spices. It lulls me into a place in my mind I’ve never been before, even though it’s far from beautiful. It is gruff, throaty, and smoky. When someone bumps my shoulder to get closer to him, I snap out of my reverie and realize what I’m listening to.

“One” by U2.

The coincidence is strange. I try to tell myself it’s nothing. This is Ireland. U2 is a national treasure.

His eyes are squeezed shut as he sings. It’s like no one exists other than him and his guitar. Something warm rushes through my skin, like a heat wave, and I shudder in delight.

Warmth.

I always thought there was something melancholy about street performers—the way people walk past them, ignoring their music, their art, their passion. But this guy, he’s the one doing the ignoring. The tables have turned. He’s got the crowd eating from the palm of his hand. Every woman here is under a thick, sweet spell. He’s got that Harry Styles quality that makes girls want to bed him and older women want to adopt him. The men are a cross between impatient, annoyed, and jealous. You can see it in the way they tap their feet, check their watches, nudge their wives and girlfriends to move it.

The song ends, and Malachy Doherty cracks his eyes open and stares directly at me, like he knew I’d be here. Like he watched me watching him through closed eyes. Disoriented—and for some reason wanting to do something, anything—I throw a bill into his guitar case and look away, realizing to my horror that I threw the fifty euros his grandpa gave me. Everyone around me murmurs and whistles. They think it was intentional. I can feel my face flaming red. I bet he thinks I want to sleep with him.

Do I? Probably. But should he know that? Hell no.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Shaking The Sleigh, by Delancey Stewart

Title: Shaking the Sleigh
Author: Delancey Stewart
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: November 25, 2019
Blurb
I’ll just admit it right up front—I don’t love the holidays.
In fact, Christmas makes me downright cranky.
Call me the Grinch if you must, but if your dad chose that day to
decide he was wrong about that whole wanting a family thing, you’d grow up
miffed about mistletoe too. Every candy cane, ugly sweater, and falalalala
reminds me of the worst day of my life.
So when my uncle—a bigwig network executive—gives me one last shot to
salvage my disastrous TV production career on a show called Holiday
Homes
, I’ve got no choice but to suck it up, head to the small town of
Singletree, and fake festive.
The problem?
Callan Whitewood. The sexy, sullen former pro-soccer player might be
the one person on earth who hates the holidays more than I do. After a
devastating injury ended his career, he’s left with a limp, no idea what to do
with his future, and a cheerless attitude worthy of Ebenezer Scrooge. But I’ve
got a TIME LIMIT to convince the gorgeous grump to allow his home to be
featured as the pinnacle of the Christmas episode of the show that’s going to
save my career.
That is, if I can keep my hands off him… but I’m having a bit of
trouble sticking to the task.
SHAKING THE SLEIGH is a standalone holiday romantic comedy with a
satisfying happily ever after, plenty of festive chuckles,
some sexy times and a few chinchillas. Maybe a cat. (And
there might be a wombat because wombats really do fit into almost any story.)

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

The blurb for Shaking The Sleigh pretty much sums up everything about this book. It’s a quirky, funny Christmas story with a cranky athlete and a heroine who hates Christmas as much as he does.

Callan is bitter and lives a lonely life. He’s pushed away just about everyone, but when April comes barreling into his life, she changes it for the better. What I loved is that both of them hated Christmas. This isn’t a “I love the magic of Christmas!” story. Both Callan and April help scratch an itch for the other, and it’s a warmhearted story as they begin to open up, feel, and fall.

Sexy, sweet and silly, Shaking The Sleigh is a perfect Christmas time romance! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: The Mighty Anchor, by Carrie Aarons

Covers

A stoic force to be reckoned with.
The steady rock on which England is destined to lean.
Everyone’s reliable mate, at the ready to defend when called upon.

To the world, Vance Morley is the next great keeper for the Rogue Football Club, biding his time at the academy. The definition of tall, dark and handsome, his quiet confidence and mysterious persona only draw the public in. He’s their mighty anchor, both on and off the pitch.

But when it comes to the one woman he claims to love, he conveniently vanishes at the exact moment I need him. The first time I saw Vance, he was a ten-year-old standing on his lawn across the street. The first time he kissed me, we were sixteen and sitting on the very shores we grew up on. We crashed into each other like waves in a storm, fated to destroy everything in our paths. Including each other.

The first time Vance saw our son, by serendipitous accident, my little boy had already lived the first year of his life. And instantly, the man who chose football over me wants to have it all. There is no way I can trust his declarations of love and fatherhood, especially when I’m set to marry another man.

We’re a new game, one to occupy him until the world stage beckons. But the more I try to tell myself he’s not the one, the more Vance’s efforts to win us back increase.

How can I guard my heart against seeing my son with his father?
Can Vance really sacrifice his dreams in the name of love and family?
Is there a way that everyone else’s safe harbor can finally become mine too?

Teaser 1.jpg

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

They were both adrift, until he anchored them.

The Mighty Anchor is the third and last standalone in Carrie Aarons’ Rogue Academy series, and tells the story of the third horseman of football, Vance Morley. The third mate of Jude and Kingston, he was kind of an aloof loner in the previous books, so I was excited to read his backstory.

Two years after Vance broke things off with his high school sweetheart (in favor of his football career), he runs into Lara by chance on the street in her hometown — and she has a toddler who is the spitting image of Vance. Suddenly, Vance realizes that he gave up everything he wanted, and he wants it back. But Lara is now engaged to another man….. is it too late?

There is a lot of back and forth as Vance and Lara try to rebuild their relationship. They do kiss a few times before she breaks off her engagement to Louis, but then it’s a few months of her and Vance dating before things progress further. CA also does a great job of showing the uncertainty Vance is feeling, torn between wanting to be with his family and wasting the best years of his athletic life waiting for the chance to play pro. How will he reconcile the two?

I do wish that there were some flashback scenes of their previous relationship, because I would have loved to have seen how they were when they were younger. Especially what led to Vance leaving her so cooly in favor of his professional football career. Yes, Lara was wrong in keeping Mason from his father and Vance’s family, but I can understand her reasons. But overall, Carrie Aarons does a great job with this story, and I’m sad to see this series come to an end. But there’s a great epilogue that shows life in the future for all tree couples, so I will just have to hang on to that!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Lip Smacker, by Alison G. Bailey

🔥🔥 NEW RELEASE 🔥🔥

LIP SMACKER by Alison G. Bailey is LIVE! Lip Smacker will be $.99 for release day only. Are you ready for Logan Heath?!

Logan Heath was the sweetest and most beautiful boy I had ever seen. He was popular, smart, and the star quarterback of Fort Johnson High. Every girl in school followed him around in hopes of getting his attention. I was no different, except that I admired Logan from afar. With him being a superstar junior and me being an awkward freshman at a new school our coupling was a mere pipedream.

Implementing my topnotch investigating skills I learned from reading The Nancy Drew Mysteries, I followed Logan’s life from high school through his college career, and then some. Fearing that my stalker-ish tendencies were becoming more of a mental health issue, I purposely lost track of him five years ago. I admit since that time I have thought of Logan. And when I say thought I mean he has popped into one or forty R-rated dreams of mine.

The day he walked into my bakery, butterflies fluttered in my stomach, tingles tingled my skin, and a sequence of R-rated dreams flashed through my head. But I was no longer that awkward teenager, too scared to speak to him. I had grown into a confident woman. A woman who wanted to admire Logan Heath up close and personal. Unfortunately, from the very beginning Logan wanted something from me that I was not willing to give him.

My hands landed on my hips. “You can’t set up a mobile office in my bakery.”

“I have to work, Miss Smacker, and I am a paying customer.”

He took a long sip of coffee.

“This is your negotiating tactic? Wait out your target until she gets so annoyed she’ll sign anything to get rid of you?”

“Not to boast, but I’ve never had a woman want to get rid of me. In fact, just the opposite.”

Logan looked wistfully into the air. My guess, sexy memories of the long list of women he’s had encounters with. No doubt they were skinny, had big boobs, big hair, and legs for days, with cute Ivy League sorority names like Buffy, Felicity, and Poppy.

“You can’t stay here the entire day,” I snapped.

“Does that mean you’re ready to discuss Harper’s offer?”

“It means get out. You lurking here in the corner will unnerve my customers.”

“Your customers or you?”

“My customers. You’re already on my nerves.”

“Then let’s talk business.”

“I’m busy!”

He opened his laptop. “Do you have free WiFi?”

“WiFi my ass.” I stomped toward the kitchen.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

This is the first book I’ve read by Alison G. Bailey, so I didn’t know quite what to expect. It was fun and quirky, even if I had to stretch my imagination at times for the logistics of the story. If you were ever the nerdy, dorky teen who dreamed of dating the hot guy at school, then you will totally relate to Lip. (Her name cracked me up!)

There is great banter between Lip and Logan, and the enemies-to-lovers aspect of this story works well. Logan is a pretty swoon-worthy book boyfriend, and this book turned out to be a cute feel-good romance with quirky characters and a wonderful HEA.

They call him the devil.

When I crash-landed into him on my first day at Loyola Academy, I was sure that couldn’t be true.

He was the most gorgeous man I’d ever seen in real life.

Little did I know he was also the cruelest.

I went from starstruck to stunned the moment his cynical eyes cut through me.

I can’t tell you what it was that made him want to punish me. But from that day forward the brooding recluse of a man made it his goal to torment me.

I want to loathe him, and some days, I do.

But good or bad, nobody’s attention has ever tasted so sweet.

What do you do when you have a hate crush on your bully?

Worse yet, what do you do when he’s also your teacher?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3 Stars

This story took me suspending belief a bit. And it had nothing to do with the forbidden teacher/student relationship. I really didn’t like Sebastian and thought that Stella could have stood up for herself a whole lot more.

Eventually, Sebastian grew on me, especially once his backstory was revealed. It explained a lot about his behavior, but I still didn’t think it excused it. The way he treated Stella at times was absolutely appalling, and I found it hard to believe that she actually fell in love with him. I didn’t find anything in their relationship to be romantic, supportive, or any of the other things that make a person fall in love with another.

Unfortunately, this book was a miss for me. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt:
There’s something about Stella that makes me believe she will always go the extra mile to seek approval from those with authority. I can see it every time she looks at me. And before the end of the hour, I’ve made up my mind. In the past, I picked easy, obvious targets for my projects. Without fail, they failed me. They couldn’t withstand the expectations of their peers and their family and the machine that is Loyola Academy.

But Stella won’t fail. I feel it deep in my gut. A spark of hope that I haven’t had with any of the others. A want I haven’t experienced since my own college days. I will push her harder than I’ve pushed anyone else before her, and she will cling to hold onto herself in the face of any storm I might bring her way. I will open her eyes to the realities of this world. And in the end, she will despise me for my ruthlessness, but she will be grateful.

Stella LeClaire, welcome to my final project.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I went into Love Resurrected having not read any of the San Solomon series previously. And wow, do I wish that I had! Not only because this book is the continuation of Brad’s story (from book #1) three years after Kat has died, but because I really loved this group of friends, and how strong their support of one another was.

Brad is an absolute shell of a man years after his fiancee dies of cancer. Despite the best efforts of his friends to make him start living again, not just existing, he can’t help but feel that he is betraying Kat by being happy when her life is over. Tenley is a friend of a friend’s wife, and they immediately get off on the wrong foot. (But of course!) Yet when they are teamed together for a city project, Brad finds himself smiling a little more, laughing a little bit, and looking forward to seeing her in spite of himself.

Not interested in a relationship, Tenley can take or leave Brad’s surly attitude. And as he attempts to work through his confusing feelings, he runs so hot and cold with her that he gives her whiplash. There is a lot of push and pull with these two characters, but Denise Wells did a fantastic job of walking the reader through Brad’s grief, madness, jealousy, insecurity and everything else that he was feeling. Likewise, I felt like I was going through all of the emotions with Tenley as well as she struggled to make sense of her feelings for Brad and his reactions to their encounters. (When he vomited out of guilt after they had sex for the first time and she thought it was out of repulsion? My heart!)

Brad turns out to be such a romantic hero, despite the cold, broken bastard he is at the onset of this story. This book was a fantastic read, from first page to the epilogue. I will most definitely go read the rest of the series! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

About the Author

Denise Wells has been reading since before she could talk. And to this day, escaping into a book is her go-to activity before anything else.

She’s the author of six romance novels and one YA novel to date. She likes to write about sassy women and semi-flawed alpha-esque men. Denise’s female characters always have strong friendships, potty mouths, and like to drink–a lot. Denise is loyal to a fault, a bit too sarcastic, blindingly optimistic, and pretty freakin’ happy with life overall. As a diehard fan of the band Journey, Denise would be a rock star in the band if she couldn’t be a writer. Preferably during the Steve Perry years, when they were awesome. Home is in the Pacific Northwest where she lives with six special needs dogs, one cat (who’s busy plotting the demise of the six dogs), and a husband (BW) who has the patience and tolerance of a saint. And, lest she forget, Denise also lives with too many to count characters inside her head, who will eventually have their stories told.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Demise Of A Self-Centered Playboy, by Piper Rayne

You might be wondering how you’ll know when your playboy ways are coming to an end. For some it might be an unexpected pregnancy (ahem… you know who), for others it might be finally landing the one woman you’ve always wanted (cough… I won’t mention any names). For me, it was the death of my mentor and the subsequent reading of their will.

The signs were there, they always are. But I didn’t notice them until it was too late, and my demise was complete.

Demise Sign #1– You find yourself thrust into the land of responsibility and you don’t immediately hightail it out of town.

Demise Sign #2– Despite being stuck with the world’s biggest Jekyll & Hyde, some sadistic part of you actually enjoys spending time with her.

Demise Sign #3– Your family suddenly stops wanting to weigh in on every decision in your life.

Demise Sign #4– Somehow you end up being the voice of reason in your tumultuous partnership.

Demise Sign #5 –You start thinking of other people before yourself.

Demise Sign #6– You agree to put yourself in the middle of an Alaskan reality TV show that has both of you sleeping in the same tent.

Demise Complete.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Another great Bailey Siblings book from Piper Rayne, and almost halfway through the series!

I really loved Denver and Cleo’s connection. They kind of knew one another from past interactions, and hated each other just enough to make the sparks fly. But what they thought about one another was dead wrong. Yes, Denver is a playboy, but he’s such a sensitive soul who has been hurt by everyone and everything he loves leaving him. Meanwhile, he sees Cleo as a spoiled rich girl, but that is not at all who she is as this story unfolds. There is so much depth to both of these characters, and watching them fall in love and fight it was a delight.

These books are all pinned as standalones, but I really felt that much of the last book (Falling For My Brother’s Best Friend) was reliant on knowing what came previously on this series. I don’t think that is the case with Playboy. Of course, all of the crazy Bailey siblings and Grandma Dori make their appearances and the family is as up in each other’s business as ever… but Denver and Cleo’s love story itself is contained.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Piper Rayne, or Piper and Rayne, whichever you prefer because we’re not one author, we’re two. Yep, you get two USA Today Bestselling authors for the price of one. Our goal is to bring you romance stories that have “Heartwarming Humor With a Side of Sizzle” (okay…you caught us, that’s our tagline). A little about us… We both have kindle’s full of one-clickable books. We’re both married to husbands who drive us to drink. We’re both chauffeurs to our kids. Most of all, we love hot heroes and quirky heroines that make us laugh, and we hope you do, too.
