Melanie Harlow kicks off a fantastic new series with Runaway Love and I am here for it! I fell in love with Veronica and Austin right away and I devoured this book. It was hard not to fall in love with plucky, outgoing Veronica and grumpy, overworked single dad Austin.
On her would-be wedding day, Veronica finds out that her fiance is shagging his assistant, which leads this former Rockette to put on a show-stopping performance before she walks out of the chapel with her head held high. But that also leaves her broke and homeless, with only the clothes she had in her hotel room. As luck would have it, she wanders into a diner and ends up with a job interview to be a nanny for the summer. Although the first meeting with her potential new boss, Austin, does not go well at all, he begrudgingly gives Veronica the job to care for his twins, Owen and Adelaide. The sexual tension is electric between them right from the start, but Austin and Veronica always stop after a few kisses. Until the twins are visiting their mom for a week and Austin and Veronica decide to have a week-long fling. Well, you can guess how that goes!
I loved Veronica’s strength and bravery. Even when she had lost everything, she found a silver lining. And poor Austin. He’d lived his life trying to make everyone in his family happy at his own expense for so long that he was afraid to reach for what he wanted to make him happy. Both in business and in his relationship with Veronica.
This story was absolutely charming. I loved Austin and Veronica, I loved the twins, I loved Cherry Tree Harbor and all of the eclectic residents we got to meet. I loved Austin’s Big Grovel, the reconciliation, and the happily ever after. I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series!
