Sunny Shelly’s Review: Whatever Happens by L.M. Reid

Release Date: January 10

The forbidden fruit never falls far from the tree…

Carter Wallace is the quarterback for the Knights and an all-around good guy. At least he was until he was in an accident that took him out for the season and possibly for good. He’s hurt, angry and acting out.
Lexie Masterson is a physical therapist and the daughter of the Knights head coach. All she’s ever wanted to do was prove herself to her father.

Drunk and feeling lost, Carter meets a woman at a bar. What should be a one-night stand turns into so much more. Until he finds out who she really is. Turns out the woman that is healing his heart, and his arm, is none other than the coach’s daughter. Even though he’s angry that she lied to him, Carter can’t seem to ignore his feelings for Lexie.
For Carter, one thing is certain. Whatever happens, Lexie is the one for him.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Whatever Happens is a quick-moving romance that starts with a one-night stand, turns forbidden, then becomes close proximity — all with a hint of instalove mixed in.

Sparks fly when Lexi and Carter meet at a bar, and he takes her home for the night. While she knows exactly who he is — a pro football player on the injured list — he has no clue that she is the daughter of his team’s head coach. They spend a lot of time together over the next few weeks, and Carter wants more but Lexi is keeping him at a distance. Well, when he sees her during a meeting in her dad’s office after a sex tape goes viral, Carter finds out why! Although Lexie’s identity was hidden, the sex tape leads her dad to make Carter leave the team while he rehabs his shoulder back in his hometown, with Lexie as his personal physical therapist.

Naturally, things are uncomfortable between them at first because Carter feels betrayed by Lexie. And rightfully so. She didn’t tell him who she was. But as he reluctantly spends time with Lexie at his parents’ house, Carter realizes that he still cares deeply for her and they try to work out their issues.

Beyond the instalove, there are a whole host of family issues with Carter’s brother, Cody, and I liked the depth that gave this story. Cody is an addict, and his behavior has had a ripple effect on the family. I thought that was handled nicely by the author, and I liked how LM Reid tied it all back together in the end with Carter, Lexie, and Cody’s future plans.

This was a quick read, and an enjoyable story.

Meet L.M. Reid

L.M. Reid writes contemporary romance that is filled with emotion and a whole lot of steam. Her heroines are strong and feisty, and her heroes are sweet and sexy.

L.M. loved reading as a child and really fell in love with books while reading the Babysitter’s Club. The series spurred her love of writing leading her to create her own series as a kid – “Best Friend’s Forever.”

Growing up watching soap operas, L.M. has always had a flair for the dramatic and a love of all things romance.

She is just a Midwest girl with simple tastes and dirty thoughts.
She lives in the state where they swear there is more than corn, with her husband and son. She’s an iced coffee addict and loves Swedish Fish. While her heart belongs to romance, she loves curling up on the couch with a good, or bad, horror movie.
