Sunny Shelly’s Review: The Last Piece of His Heart, by Emma Scott

From USA Today and Wall St. Journal bestselling author, Emma Scott, comes the third and final novel in the Lost Boys series–a gritty, angsty love story about two lost souls searching for their place in the world, and what it means to be truly found.

The Last Piece of His Heart by Emma Scott is now live!

At Santa Cruz Central High School, they called them the misfits, the outcasts, the weirdos. But most of us knew them as the Lost Boys…

Ronan Wentz has been to hell and back, and he carries the scars to prove it. Worse, the blood of a monster runs through his veins. After ten years in foster care, eighteen-year-old Ronan is finally reunited with family. His uncle gives him a roof over his head and puts him to work, managing a shabby apartment complex in Santa Cruz, California.

But a second chance is still a second chance. Ronan becomes a solitary hunter, a vigilante, walking the streets at night to keep the nightmares at bay. If he can use the anger burning in his tainted blood to protect instead of hurt, maybe then he’ll find the absolution he seeks.

Then he meets Shiloh.

Shiloh Barrera looks like she has it all together. Smart, ambitious and full of artistic creativity she channels into making beautiful one-of-kind jewelry. But Shiloh’s cool, capable demeanor is all a front. Her demons drive her to succeed as much as her ambition. To prove her worth to the mother who can’t stand to look at her, and who’s harboring secrets of her own.

When Shiloh and Ronan meet, the physical attraction is instant and scorching. Neither believe it will last. Falling in love is an impossible pipe dream saved for those less shattered and damaged than they are.

But as hard as they try to resist, the growing feelings between them seem inevitable… until one terrible night destroys Shiloh’s dreams and Ronan’s future. When the smoke clears, and the rubble settles, they’ll have to choose – do their pasts determine their future, or can they build a new one from the broken pieces of their hearts?

Lost Boys is a new series of interconnected, coming-of-age standalones from USA Today bestselling author Emma Scott.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Oh my goodness! The last book in the Lost Boys series was just as angsty, beautiful and emotional as the others! Since the timeline of all three Lost Boys books overlap, there were some nuggets previously dropped about Shiloh and Ronan… and gah! This story was worth the wait.

Ronan has had a hell of a life. Bounced from foster home to foster home, he never found a place he fit in until he met Shiloh. The scars of his past have made Ronan a bit of a recluse — or the vampire of the Lost Boys in Santa Cruz— but he is a fierce, fierce protector when it comes to those he cares about. Miller, Hunter and Shiloh especially! Meanwhile, Shiloh is determined to make her jewelry store dream come true, to prove to herself (and the mother who seems to hate the sight of her), that she has a life worth living.

Ronan and Shiloh’s relationship is a slow burn as they go from friends to more, but because Ronan has this deep need to protect her, and for a good cause, their relationship is kept in the shadows. Once they do go public, everything that he feared would happen does, and it literally tears them apart for years.

The last few chapters of this story are especially amazing. After all that Shiloh and Ronan go through, I was so happy to see them get a happy ending. The reveal of why Shiloh and her mom’s relationship is so fractured was a gut wrenching scene. But I am so happy with the way Emma Scott repaired that relationship and how much of a presence Marie became in Shiloh’s life afterwards!

And that final scene with the three Lost Boys… I cried. Ugly fat tears that I had to keep clearing from my eyes. The lost boys and their created family… this series was epic. And I won’t forget it.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt: Float Plan, by Trish Dollar

FLOAT PLAN

Book Info

Heartbroken by the loss of her fiancé, adventurous Anna finds a second chance at love with an Irish sailor in this riveting, emotional romance.

After a reminder goes off for the Caribbean sailing trip Anna was supposed to take with her fiancé, she impulsively goes to sea in the sailboat he left her, intending to complete the voyage alone.

But after a treacherous night’s sail, she realizes she can’t do it by herself and hires Keane, a professional sailor, to help. Much like Anna, Keane is struggling with a very different future than the one he had planned. As romance rises with the tide, they discover that it’s never too late to chart a new course.

In Trish Doller’s unforgettable Float Plan, starting over doesn’t mean letting go of your past, it means making room for your future.

“The perfect escape. Fresh, funny, and romantic. I wish I could sail away with this book.” – Meg Cabot, New York Times bestselling author of The Princess Diaries and Little Bridge series

EXCERPT

Anna—

There’s a kind of jacked-up happiness that comes when you know your life is almost over, when the decision to end it becomes solid. It might be adrenaline. It might be relief. And if I had always felt like this, I might have climbed mountains or raced marathons.

Now it’s just enough to see this through.

I should have left you alone that first night at the bar. If I had, you wouldn’t be reading this letter at all.

You’d be walking your dog or watching TV with your boyfriend. You didn’t deserve to be dragged into my shit, and you definitely don’t deserve the pain I’m about to cause. This is not your fault. For two years you have been my only reason for living. I wish I could give you forever.

You are strong and brave, and someday you’ll be okay. You’ll fall in love, and I hate him already for being a better man. Someday you will be happy again.

I love you, Anna. I’m sorry.

—Ben

ten months and six days (1)

I walk out of my life on Thanksgiving Day.

Last-minute shoppers are clearing shelves of stuffing mix and pumpkin pie filling as I heap my cart with everything I might need. (Dry beans. Canned vegetables. Rice.) I move through the grocery store like a prepper running late for doomsday. (Boxed milk. Limes. Spare flashlight.) I am quick so I won’t lose my nerve. (Apples. Toilet paper. Red wine.) I try not to think beyond leaving. (Cabbage. Playing cards. Bottled water.) Or about what I might be leaving behind.

My mother calls as I’m wrangling the grocery bags into the back seat of my overstuffed Subaru. I haven’t told her that I won’t be there for Thanksgiving dinner, and she’s not ready to hear that I’m skipping town. Not when I’ve barely left the house for the better part of a year. She’ll have questions and I don’t have an- swers, so I let the call go to voicemail.

When I reach the dock, the Alberg is right where it should

be, the shiny hull painted navy blue and the transom empty, still waiting for a name. For a moment I expect Ben’s head to pop up from the companionway. I wait to see his little fuck-me grin, and to hear the excitement in his voice when he tells me today is the day. But the hatch is padlocked, and the deck is covered in bird shit—another part of my life I’ve let fall into neglect.

Ten months and six days ago, Ben swallowed a bottle of pre- scription Paxil and chased it with the cheap tequila that lived under the sink, and I don’t know why. He was already gone when I came home from work and found him on the kitchen floor. In his suicide note, he told me I was his reason for living. Why was I not enough?

I breathe in deep, to the bottom of my lungs. Let it out slowly.

Step onto the boat and unlock the hatch.

The air is stale and hot, smelling of wood wax, new canvas, and a hint of diesel. I haven’t been aboard since before Ben died. Spiders have spun their homes in the corners of the cabin and a layer of dust has settled on every surface, but the changes leave me breathless. The interior brightwork is varnished and glossy. The ugly original brown-plaid cushion covers have been replaced with red canvas and Peruvian stripes. And a framed graphic hangs on the forward bulkhead that reads i & love & you.

“Why do all this work for a trip you’ll never take?” I say out loud, but it’s another question without an answer. I wipe my eyes on the sleeve of my T-shirt. One of the things I’ve learned is that suicide doesn’t break a person’s heart just once.

It takes me the rest of the morning to clean the boat, unload the contents of my car, and stow everything away. Traces of Ben are everywhere: a saucepan at the bottom of the hanging locker,

Float Plan 5

an expired six-pack of Heineken in the cockpit lazarette, a moldy orange life jacket stuffed in the refrigerator. I throw these things in the trash, but even with my spider plant hanging from an overhead handrail and my books lining the shelf, the boat belongs to Ben. He chose it. He did the renovations. He charted the course. He set the departure date. My presence feels like a layer as temporary as dust.

The last thing in my trunk is a shoebox filled with photos taken using Ben’s old Polaroid, a dried hibiscus flower from our first date, a handful of dirty-sexy love letters, and a suicide note. I take out a single photo—Ben and me at the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse about a week before he died—and stash the box in the bottom drawer of the navigation station. I tape the photo to the wall in the V-berth, right above my pillow.

And it’s time to go.

My only plan was to spend today in bed—my only plan since Ben’s death—but I was startled out of sleep by an alarm. The notification on my phone said: TODAY IS THE DAY, ANNA! WE’RE GOING SAILING! Ben had programmed the event into my calendar almost three years ago—on the day he showed me his sailboat and asked me to sail the world with him—and I had forgotten. I cried until my eyelashes hurt, because there is no lon- ger a we and I’ve forgotten how to be me without Ben. Then I got out of bed and started packing.I’ve never been sailing without Ben. I don’t always get the ter- minology correct—it’s a line, Anna, not a rope—and I’ll be lucky if I make it to the end of the river. But I am less afraid of what might become of me while sailing alone in the Caribbean than of what might become of me if I stay.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Just My Type is a sexy and sweet opposites attract friends to lovers romance. Sophia Karlson is a new-to-me author, and I really enjoyed her writing style and the journey Mark (aka Stings) and Hayley went on. It’s set in South Africa, and tells the story of a rugby star who has a reputation as a womanizer who never sleeps with the same woman twice and the photographer who is convinced that she is not his type.

Mark and Hayley have mutual friends, so they run in the same circle and have known each other for years. As they get to know one another during their best friends’ engagement party, Hayley realizes that she really misjudged Stings, and she just may be his type after all…

This book started off as a slow burn for me, but once it really got going, I loved Mark and Hayley, and what they drew out of the other. I thought this was going to be another lighthearted manwhore-falls-for-the-good-girl story — and it was — but there are a whole host of deeper topics that come into play in this book, like anxiety, mental health and depression. And the effects that social media can have on a person. I loved the scene where Mark kind of freaks out and doesn’t know how to handle being surrounded by his fans… it brought another aspect of the life of a celebrity to light, one that I haven’t seen much of in the sports romance genre.

A gem of a romance!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3.5 Stars

The Other Side of Green is the conclusion to The Other Side of Us duet, and must be read after The Other Side of Blue. Lyra and Jack’s story continues with so many twists and turns, I got whiplash.

This best friend’s sister story was a satisfying end to Lyra and Jack’s forbidden romance. The answers I had at the end of TOSOB were answered, and the truth about what happened that night that ruined Jack’s life were revealed… and while the story was well-written, I just wasn’t totally captivated by Green the way I had been with Blue. I felt like the book dragged a bit until the last 25%, but then it picked up and gave me what I needed from Jack and Lyra’s reconciliation.

Overall, this duet was full of angst, twists and turns, secrets, lies and coverups. I really liked Lyra’s story arc, and how she went from being completely lost at the start of Blue to a strong, confident woman by the time Green ended. The epilogue was perfect, nicely wrapping up the story and giving us a hint of the couple’s future.

With shaking hands, I pushed the window up. Silently, he dropped his feet onto the floor and landed with a solid bump on the floor that made my heart bump.

“I’m not your brother, Lyra.” Those dirty greens I had always loved so much shone with determination.
“Jack, I don’t think it’s us who gets to decide.”
I jumped as he grabbed my hand, lifting it and pressing his lips into the skin of my palm. “There is no way on this earth that I’m your brother.”
I tried to untangle my hand, but he held it tight. “You can’t say that, can’t make statements that aren’t true.”
“I can. I know it.”
“How do you know it? Right now, all I know is that I know nothing. I mean, I don’t even know who my father is, never even had any idea. I’ve lived my entire life in the dark, and who the hell knows if that woman ever speaks the truth.”
“I know, because I’d feel it here.” He turned my palm, pressing it against his chest, his heart giving a ragged beat beneath the pressure of my hand. My breath caught. “Instead, I just know you are the only woman I’ve ever loved; well apart from my mom.” He shot me a shy smile and my poor heart almost imploded, aching with every pathetic pound.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Love Like Her, by Claudia Burgoa

Love Like Her by Claudia Burgoa is now live!

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Claudia Burgoa charms readers in this romantic comedy that’s whimsical and fun.

Eros Brassard and I met at JFK years ago while trying to catch two different planes. We had an instant connection that was too powerful to deny. Love happened, and we hooked up.

After our crazy romp, we agreed we couldn’t be together. We live too far away to make it work. Yet ever since, destiny has brought us together. Our paths have crossed so many times it’s obvious fate has intervened in our lives.

But there’s always something else–or someone else–getting in the way. Until now.

I’m hired to plan the wedding of Eros’ best friend, Misty. He thought Misty was the one who got away… until I walked in.

Will circumstances push us apart again?

Or is it the perfect time… maybe… for us to finally admit the truth?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars
Another great story for the Broussard family with Eros and Olivia! I love how their relationship spans more than a decade, multiple cities, how they are always so close yet so far, sharing a few moments before passing each other by again. Fate keeps bringing these two together over and over again, and in between their moments, mere weeks, of being lovers, a strong friendship is built as they stay in touch through phone calls, emails and text messages.

But when it matters, they are there for one another. Through her family tragedy and his, they build each other back up, support one another, until it’s time to to say “until next time…”

I’m not gonna lie, part of this story had me feeling like, enough already! But then once I got to the last 25%, when they are finally in the same city, I actually cried as it all unraveled and then was built back up. Eros and Liv have an incredible base to their relationship, and I loved how falling in love kind of snuck up on them both.

I thought that Claudia Burgoa did a great job of using text messages and emails to further along this story as the years to by. Keeping Eros and Liv connected even while they were building their own lives. I didn’t love the subplot with his friend Misty… it kind of felt shoehorned in, but I see why it was needed to prompt Eros and Liv along to making their own commitment.

This story overlaps the events of the other two books in the series, and Eros’ sisters and their guys are all secondary characters, so it was great to catch up with Nyx and Persy! I have to say, that Broussard family tragedy was not expected at all!! I am curious now about how the 4th book in this series will fit in!

Blurb:
Told in alternating timelines, THE THINGS WE LEAVE UNFINISHED examines the risks we take for love, the scars too deep to heal, and the endings we can’t bring ourselves to see coming.

Twenty-eight-year-old Georgia Stanton has to start over after she gave up almost everything in a brutal divorce—the New York house, the friends, and her pride. Now back home at her late great-grandmother’s estate in Colorado, she finds herself face-to-face with Noah Harrison, the bestselling author of a million books where the cover is always people nearly kissing. He’s just as arrogant in person as in interviews, and she’ll be damned if the good-looking writer of love stories thinks he’s the one to finish her grandmother’s final novel…even if the publisher swears he’s the perfect fit.

Noah is at the pinnacle of his career. With book and movie deals galore, there isn’t much the “golden boy” of modern fiction hasn’t accomplished. But he can’t walk away from what might be the best book of the century—the one his idol, Scarlett Stanton, left unfinished. Coming up with a fitting ending for the legendary author is one thing, but dealing with her beautiful, stubborn, cynical great-granddaughter, Georgia, is quite another.

But as they read Scarlett’s words in both the manuscript and her box of letters, they start to realize why Scarlett never finished the book—it’s based on her real-life romance with a World War II pilot, and the ending isn’t a happy one. Georgia knows all too well that love never works out, and while the chemistry and connection between her and Noah is undeniable, she’s as determined as ever to learn from her great-grandmother’s mistakes—even if it means destroying Noah’s career.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

The Things We Leave Unfinished is another spectacular novel by Rebecca Yarros. While it has all of the elements of a romance, I didn’t find it to follow the general formula that most contemporary romance novels do. There is a lot of family drama involved, an enemies-to-lovers romance thread, and a wonderful story of soul mates and a wonderful happily ever after.

There are actually two storylines happening at once in this novel — the current-day tale of Noah and Georgia, and the WW2 storyline of Georgia’s great-grandparents, Scarlett and Jameson. The letters of Scarlett and Jameson are wonderful. The chapters go back and forth between the two tales, telling the overall story. Both romances are epic and swoony, and there is a fantastic plot twist at the end that kind of upends everything that Georgia knew to be true about her life and family.

Although I found this book to be a little slow going at first, I couldn’t put it down by the time I really got into the story. I wanted to see what happens next — but didn’t want it to end! Somehow, The Things We Leave Unfinished manages to be a heartwarming, emotional, gripping, entertaining, sorrowful, happy novel all at the same time!

I received an advanced copy via NetGalley and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Three’s A Crowd, by Everly Ashton

Release Date: March 1

Damn, the man has the body of a god. Like a real-life statue of David or something. It’s unfair that someone so annoying looks so delicious.

Keane and I have been enemies since childhood.

He thinks I’m a Goody
Two-shoes and I think he’s an arrogant a$$hole.

Years later nothing’s changed except the fact that we’re cohabitating in the same apartment along with his sister, who’s also my best friend.

Even though I’m fighting like hell to keep the city from tearing down the building he wants to replace with a new restaurant, we somehow find ourselves doing the horizontal mambo.

Maybe it’s the magic of the letter I found in our ancient apartment that predicted I’m going to meet the man of my dreams. Or maybe it’s just hormones. But just when I start to buy into us as a couple, someone from his past shows up with a shocking secret that Keane’s adamant is untrue.

Now I’m questioning if I can really trust the guy who told the entire football team in high school that I still slept with a stuffie at fifteen years old. In my experience, the answer is no.

Three’s A Crowd is a best friend’s older brother rom-com full of laughs and sexy times. No cheating. HEA.

The Love in Apartment 3B series continues with Fiona and Keane’s story — we met them both in Hit or Miss, but Three’s A Crowd is a standalone story (with crossover characters).

Keane and Fiona have been adversaries since they were kids, and now that they are adults, their relationship isn’t much better. But the more time they spend together as roommates, the more they each discover that the other isn’t so bad after all. There are a few obstacles thrown their way before they can get to their happily ever after, but this book is pretty light-hearted and a quick, fun read with all the right steamy moments.

This is the second book by Everly Ashton, and again, I am impressed. The story flows so nicely, and she hits all the right highs and lows in telling the tale.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: The Knockout Rule, by Kelly Siskind

The Knockout Rule, an all-new sexy and addictive standalone romance from bestselling author Kelly Siskind is available now!

Growing up with an adoring father for a boxing legend isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. It looks more like hospital visits, bloody noses, and cracked ribs.

Isla Slade now works as a physiotherapist, helping athletes heal their bodies. Except for boxers. She has no interest in reliving the stress of her teen years. Dating someone in the boxing world? She’d rather snort wasabi powder.

Until she meets Preston Church.

Preston manages heavyweight boxing darling Brick Kramarov. A brute who’s built tougher than his name, with a cocky attitude to boot. She wants nothing to do with either man, but her father begs her to help them prepare for a huge Vegas fight.

She doesn’t expect Preston to recite romantic poems and slowly break her resolve. His fascinating mind gets under her skin, even if his star athlete reminds her how much she hates boxing.

Too bad it’s Brick coaching Preston how to woo Isla, falling for her from the sidelines. Once she finds out, she’ll have to decide if she can risk loving another man who puts it all on the line for the knockout.

Excerpt

“Don’t let the resistance pull your arms forward at the top,” Isla told him. “Keep your hands in line with your ears.”

He repeated the movement, noting her suggestions, sweat gathering along his neck. “Like this?”

“Exactly. Take it slow.”

She crouched next to him, the closest they’d been all session, and his stomach swooped. Fucking swooped, like he was a love-struck teen. The sensation divided his focus, part of it staying on the rope in his hands, a fraction diverting to her proximity, another locked on his reacting body. She shifted positions slightly, seemed to hesitate, then she placed her hand on his back.

Forget divided. All his attention zeroed in on that one spot. Isla. Hand. Hot. So much heat concentrating where she touched. He leaned back a bit, couldn’t control his body’s urge to ask for more. More contact, more Isla.

Her fingers spread wider. “Don’t overarch your back,” she said, her voice lower, breathy. “Sit straighter.”

He paused with the triceps rope at his chin, fixed his posture and turned his head, bringing them almost nose to nose. “Like this?”

Her gaze dropped to his lips. His thighs flexed.

“Yeah,” she murmured. “Like that.”

The moment lingered, sexual tension vibrating between them so thoroughly he was surprised the walls didn’t shake. And he was pissed. Angry at their circumstances. Upset for Isla and all she’d dealt with in her life. Mad that the easy friendship they’d developed had devolved in a matter of hours to broken sentences and awkward glances. None of it was okay.

Determined to salvage something from this mess, he worked through his next rep with slow precision, keeping his back straighter, his arms at the correct angle. At the end of the rep, he said, “What do you call spending the afternoon with a cranky rabbit?”

Isla made a startled sound, a muffled kind-of-laugh. From the corner of his eye, he caught the hint of a smile. “I don’t know,” she said.

“A bad hare day.”

Her tentative smile grew. “Have I told you your humor hovers at a grade-one level?”

“Have I told you that you have no sense of humor?”

“I wouldn’t know. I usually tune you out.”

He chuckled at that, turned his head toward her, bringing their lips dangerously close again. Her hand was still on his back, maintaining his posture. Her thumb moved, a small stroke he felt everywhere. They breathed deeply at the same time, their chests expanding like their hearts were reaching toward each other. Then they got back to work. Less awkward this time. They talked more easily. Joked occasionally. Everything out of Isla’s mouth sounded like foreplay to him: move slower, hold that position, yeah like that. But he somehow found his focus, stayed attuned to his body’s needs and pains, assessing when muscle fatigue meant a break was due. Neither of them crossed the invisible line they’d drawn. They were once again patient and physiotherapist, no different than during their early sessions. But everything was different.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

The Knockout Rule is a fun, modern spin on the Cyrano de Bergerac story, a super slow burn romance set in the world of professional boxing. I loved how my initial misconceptions about big, brutish Brick (aka Eric) were proved wrong, because he is super sweet, so smart, and has such a sensitive heart. Isla is a smart, fun, strong, heroine, but I really adored Eric. Swoony, swoony Eric.

It took me a while to really get into this book, but once I did, it was a page-turner. Eric turned out to be everything that Isla didn’t think she wanted, and absolutely all that she really needed. They don’t really like one another much at first, but as the story goes on, they end up being perfectly perfect for one another! I haven’t read anything else in this series; this is actually the first Kelly Siskind book I’ve read. I thought she handled the subplot regarding Isla’s mental health quite nicely, and found this story overall to be very well-written.

BLURB:

USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn’s latest bauble is the charming story of a crafting queen battling a jaded divorce lawyer on a wedding reality show.

Luna Rossi is a veritable crafting genius—she can bedazzle and bead so hard her Etsy site is one of the hottest in the world. So it’s only natural that Luna would convince her brother and his husband-to-be to compete on The Wedding Game, a “do-it-yourself” TV show, for the title of Top DIY Wedding Expert.

As a jaded divorce lawyer, Alec Baxter scoffs at weddings and romance. But when his recently engaged brother begs him to participate in The Wedding Game, Alec grudgingly picks up a glue gun and prepares for some family bonding.

Both fierce competitors, Luna and Alec clash on national TV as harsh words and glitter fly with abandon. But as they bicker over color swatches and mood boards, they find themselves fighting something else: their growing mutual attraction. While Luna is torn between family loyalty and her own feelings, Alec wonders if he might have been wrong about love and marriage all along…

EXCERPT:

“Are you ready?” Farrah says, coming from behind me and massaging my shoulders. I move my head side to side while we both hop up and down. “Did you do those finger exercises I told you about?”

I flex my fingers and nod. “Yup, all warmed up.”

“Do you have your game face on?” Farrah spins me around and grips my shoulders as I mean mug it at her. “Ooo, you’ve been practicing in the mirror. I can tell.”

“When I brush my teeth. I really feel like I’ve mastered the scowl.”

“Honey, you mastered the scowl years ago. Now you’re just coming into your own with it.” She holds up her hands, and I start boxing into them as we leap around the apartment. “Quick on your feet, quick on your feet.” Farrah swings her hand at me, and I duck. “Focus, hone your attention.”

“Focused.”

“Tell me, who’s going to kill it today?”

“I am.” I bob back and forth and then give Farrah a one-two punch to her hands.

“Who’s going to do anything necessary, even sit on someone’s face if you need to, in order to win today’s challenge?”

“I am. Show no mercy. My ass is coming for your face.”

Farrah pauses, winces. “I’m not sure I like that.”

“Just go with it.”

“Okay, Luna’s ass is coming for your face.” She shrugs. “Next week let’s work on your trash talk.”

“Might be necessary.”

Circling again, I box at Farrah’s hands, feeling light on my feet and ready for anything that comes my way. “You’re going to ignore all conversations from Mr. Snobby Shoes.”

“I don’t even know he exists.”

“Your eyes are on the prize. And what is that prize?”

“Giving Cohen and Declan the best wedding possible.”

“Exactly.” She lowers her palms. “Quick, flash me your hands.”

I lift my hands, and she inspects them carefully.

“You lotioned—good. Nails are clipped to a perfect length, and those fingers are stretched and strong. Rotate your wrists for me.” She lowers her ear to my wrists as I circle them around. “Perfect, no cracking, no tension.” She points to the ground. “Fast feet.”

My feet start bouncing up and down, like in those football movies, and I hold my hands at my hips, ready for the call . . .

“Draw!” Farrah shouts.

I pull my glue gun from my hip and point it at her. “You’ve been glued.”

Farrah claps her hands. “Reaction time was spot on. You’re ready.”

“Yeah?”

She nods. “You got this, girl. This competition is yours for the taking. And remember what we talked about: don’t focus on what you think will win . . .”

“Focus on what will bring Cohen and Declan joy.”

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I really don’t know how the heck Meghan Quinn does it, but she just keeps writing heroes that outdo the one who comes before him! The Wedding Game is unlike any MQ book I’ve read before (and I actually find myself saying that quite often, which is a testament to her talents as a writer!). And if there was ever a book that could be turned into a Hallmark movie, it is The Wedding Game!

Set against a wedding-themed reality show, this hilarious romcom features Luna, a sunshiney bedazzler-happy DIY fanatic, and anti-commitment divorce lawyer Alec, who has begrudgingly agreed to help his brother out. Alec and Luna immediately get off on the wrong foot when he mistakes her for a PA on the show’s set and all but demands that she get him a cup of coffee. Which she, of course, adds “something special” to!

What starts out as Luna and Alec trading barbs turns into them swapping recipes (kinda) and decor ideas. But they are each other’s competition, technically, so keeping their relationship a secret is a must. Which isn’t so bad at first, but loyalty to her brother begins to compete against Luna’s growing feelings for Alec. And just as Alec realizes that being in love and sharing his life with one person might not be so bad, their relationship blows up in the worst way.

The Wedding Game is just what the book world needs right now. It’s got a quirky heroine, a broody hero, sequins and tulle and burlap galore. The chemistry between Alec and Luna is electric, and the arc of their journey as a couple is heartwarming. Add in the awesome side characters, and The Wedding Game is an absolute winner!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Set against the beautiful backdrop of Hawaii, Moments Like This is a contemporary romance filled with sweet and swoony moments… but are were they all a lie? This book was a real page turner. As more and more of Warren and Andi’s story unfolded, I wanted to see where it would go next… especially when their friendship and romance hits a speed bump.

Warren is a bit of a tortured hero who is not looking for love but is completely captivated by Andi. She’s trying to find herself again after her life turned into a bit of a dumpster fire. Will he open himself up to love? Will she remain in Hawaii or return to the mainland? This story has a bit of a Hallmark feel to it (clean romance, so lots of sweet moments, but no sexy time), and is a nicely written collaboration between Anna Gomez and actor Kristoffer Pohala, making his writing debut.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Author Bio:

Kristoffer Polaha is best-known for his long starring role in the critically acclaimed series Life Unexpected (The CW). He has appeared in numerous independent features, including Where Hope Grows, Devil’s Knot (Colin Firth, Reese Witherspoon), and the Tim Tebow film, Run the Race.

Polaha has a featured role opposite Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman 1984 and in Jurassic World: Dominion.
