BLURB

Dane Goldenโ€”Best friend. Temptation in football cleats. Roommate?

Iโ€™m screwed.

His followers donโ€™t call him Pretty Boy D for nothing. The guy is, literally, Godโ€™s gift to women. I should know. Iโ€™ve watched chicks throw themselves at him since puberty.

Sharing his loft should be simple. Easy. But shortly after I settle in, we realize being “just friends” was so much easier when we werenโ€™t sleeping under the same roof.

Seven years of thinking we had this down to a science goes out the window the night Dane sees my โ€œNever Have I Everโ€ list. Now, heโ€™s on a mission to help me cross off the top four items. Some of which arenโ€™t quite as innocent as heโ€™d expect.

What heโ€™s proposing will break the rules we agreed to when I first came to stay here. He wants me to give in, to let my guard down and face my feelings for once. At least, thatโ€™s what that wicked look in his eyes and the mounting heat between us suggests.

This isnโ€™t how I imagined being roommates would go. But a girl can only stare temptation in its green eyes for so long and not weaken.

My best friend wants to have his way with me and, right or wrongโ€ฆ I think I might let him.

Pretty Boy D is a full-length standalone novel. This book can absolutely be read on its own, but when youโ€™re done, itโ€™s recommended that you check out more from the Golden triplets and Joss in the complete enemies-to-lovers trilogy, KINGS OF CYPRESS PREP.

Do you enjoy the frustratingly hot push and pull of a good friends-to-lovers or roommates-to-lovers romance? Then youโ€™ll love getting to know Dane and Joss. Due to adult themes and sexual situations, this oneโ€™s only for the 18+ crowd. Expect an HEA and no trigger warnings needed.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3.5 Stars

Pretty Boy D wasโ€ฆ pretty good, but I guess I was expecting more from Dane and Joss crossing over from friends to more after getting to know them in the first Golden Boys books. What occurs between them is perfectly fine friends-to-lovers trope, but they were kinda lacking that *oomph* that I got from Blue and West in the first books of this series.

There were some miscommunications between Dane and Joss that had me shaking my head. They were best friends for so long first, and then she jumped to a conclusion about him being with other girls and didnโ€™t confront him? I didnโ€™t buy it.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read, but I just felt it didnโ€™t pack the same punch as Westโ€™s books did. Maybe I expected too much? Itโ€™s not necessary to have read the previous books in this connected series to enjoy Pretty Boy D, but check them out anyway!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: The Fine Print, by Lauren Asher

The Fine Print by Lauren Asher is now live!

Rowan
I’m in the business of creating fairy tales.
Theme parks. Production companies. Five-star hotels.
Everything could be all mine if I renovated Dreamland.
My initial idea of hiring Zahra was good in theory, but then I kissed her.
Things spiraled out of control once I texted her using an alias.
By the time I realized where I went wrong, it was too late.
People like me don’t get happy endings.
Not when we’re destined to ruin them.

Zahra
After submitting a drunk proposal criticizing Dreamland’s most expensive ride, I should have been fired.
Instead, Rowan Kane offered me a dream job.
The catch? I had to work for the most difficult boss I’d ever met.
Rowan was rude and completely off-limits, but my heart didn’t care.
At least not until I discovered his secret.
It was time to teach the billionaire that money couldn’t fix everything.
Especially not us.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

The Fine Print was quite an enjoyable workplace, grumpy/sunshine boss romance! In the wake of his grandfather’s death, Rowan has to serve as the director of the family’s Dreamland theme park for 6 months in order to claim his inheritance and then whatever other position he wants in the family’s corporation. But this grumpy hero doesn’t count on a ray of sunshine in the princess hair salon to be the bane of his existence โ€” or his soulmate. Zahara, meanwhile, can’t believe that the grumpy grandson whom her beloved boss spoke so highly about is the same icy man stalking the halls and making her life miserable. She gets her dream job as a Dreamland Creator as a result of Rowan’s taking over the park, and as they work together on reimagining one of the park’s iconic rides, they grow closer and romance blooms. But at what cost? Has Zahara just been a pawn in his endgame to get what he really wants?

I liked the push and pull between these characters. Rowan is all icy cold because of daddy issues, and there is a really lovely scene where he finally confesses his background to her and shows some real vulnerability. Which made me hate him again when he then breaks things off with Rowan because he never wanted to fall in love and have a relationship. She really makes him grovel once he admits to being scared of love, and I appreciated that she wasn’t a doormat. Zahara stood her ground, and is as feisty as they come. Especially when she told off Rowan’s dad, Seth! Loved that scene!

I loved the behind-the-scenes peek at the theme park — clearly a ripoff of the mouse house conglomerate, but I ate up all that cheesiness and how the park and characters and the subsidiaries played into Zahara and Rowan’s story.

The Fine Print is a series starter for the Dreamland Billionaires brothers, and I can’t wait to see what comes next for this family. This is the first book I’ve read by Lauren Asher, and I will definitely be on the lookout for the subsequent books!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: One Little Mistake, by Avery Maxwell

Easton Westbrook entered my life like an arrogant, grumpy, wrecking ball, and refused to leave.

One Little Mistake, an all-new enemies-to-lovers romance from Avery Maxwell, is available now!

Our banter is addicting, and nothing I do or say will make him change his mind. But when his mind becomes focused solely on me, I run.

I canโ€™t afford to give my heart away again. Not when Iโ€™m barely surviving with the broken one I have.
I have walls up for a reason. Reasons that are none of his business, but Easton is used to getting what he wants. And when he decides he wants me, Iโ€™m not sure Iโ€™ll survive it.

Lexi Heart entered my life like an arrogant, bossy, she-devil in heels, and I canโ€™t get her out of my head.
Sheโ€™s always ten steps ahead, and I have to admit, Iโ€™m intrigued. With every lash of her sharp tongue, she puts me in my place. But when I peel back the layers of her tough girl exterior, I see the broken shell sheโ€™s hiding, and my own walls come crashing down.

We quickly learn that what happens in Vegas doesnโ€™t stay there, and I know Iโ€™m done for. I want this girl in every sense of the word, but can I convince her to take a chance on us? Or will the damage from her past be too much, even for true love?

Join Easton and Lexi in their highly emotional journey to a happily ever after. One Little Mistake is an enemy to lovers, accidental marriage romance that will draw you in and refuse to let you go.

Excerpt

My phone vibrates next to me, and I can all but guarantee itโ€™ll be one of the girls. Or both of them. Lanie, Julia, and I all grew up in the tiny town of Burke Hollow, Vermont. They, and my grandmother, GG, are the only constants in my life. Glancing down, I see Iโ€™m right.

Lanie: Kick butt today at work, chica! Luvs!

Julia: She means kick ass and take names. Youโ€™ve got this!

Julia: Luvs.

Their confidence in me is comforting, but it doesnโ€™t shake off my nerves.

Lexi: Thanks, guys. Luv you both.

Julia: Just throwing this out there โ€ฆ East is pretty hot! (winky face emoji)

Lanie: They would look so cute together, wouldnโ€™t they?

Jesus Christ.

If they knew what Iโ€™ve been through, they would understand. My heart isnโ€™t up for grabs, and it wonโ€™t ever be again. My boyfriend finder is broken beyond repair. Or maybe it never worked to begin with, since Iโ€™ve only ever chosen losers.

Lexi: Donโ€™t start. That isnโ€™t an option. Not now, not ever. Do you not remember my choice in men almost got me killed?

Lanie: โ€ฆ

Julia: You canโ€™t blame yourself for Miles. You couldnโ€™t have known, but I will say this: both Lanie and I found love when we had sworn it off. You never know when it will strike.

Lexi: I do. Never. Love is a choice, and itโ€™s one Iโ€™m choosing not to make again.

Lanie: Oh, Lexi. Itโ€™s cute how you think you can control it.

Lexi: Whatever. I have to get going, or Iโ€™ll be late. Luvs.

Lanie: Luvs.

Julia: Kick his ass. Then maybe kiss it better! (Winky face kissing emoji) Luvs!

I donโ€™t respond because Julia has no filter. Her responses will only get worse if I encourage her. Instead, I pack up the lunch I made and head out the door, only to run face-first into a human wall.

โ€œLeo,โ€ I grumble. Ashton, the youngest Westbrook, decided I need to have round-the-clock security. Freaking Ash. The only reason I didnโ€™t argue is Iโ€™m pretty sure he does some messed-up shit with super-spy Loki.

Leo is my day guy, and his job just got boring as hell. Realizing I never asked him what he would do all day while I sat at a desk, I stare at him.

โ€œSomething wrong, Ms. Heart?โ€ His voice always sounds so clinical.

Tilting my head to the side, I observe him. โ€œWhat are you going to do all day?โ€

โ€œWhat I do every day, maโ€™am. Watch over you.โ€

โ€œOh, hell to the no! Do not call me maโ€™am.โ€ I jab my finger into his chest as I speak. โ€œIโ€™m not old enough for that shit. For the last time, itโ€™s Lexi. Call me Lexi or Lex. Jesus, even โ€˜girlโ€™ would be better than maโ€™am.โ€

He doesnโ€™t answer. The only acknowledgment I get is a quick nod of his head as he steps out of the way so I can lock the door. This is going to be a long day, and I already feel a migraine coming on.

We climb into the car, and the driver takes off. My girls married into some rich ass families, but I begrudgingly admit theyโ€™re amazing. I will never say that to Preston, though. Iโ€™m having a hard enough time separating them and their money from the wealth and cruelty I knew when I was with Miles.

Leaning back, I close my eyes, but the car pulls to a stop all too quickly, and I hear Leo exit the car.

Well, shit. The commute took less than five minutes. Leo opens my door, and I force myself to exit. Iโ€™m not sure what I expected, but the building before me emblazoned with โ€˜The Westbrook Groupโ€™ was not it. Maybe itโ€™s because Preston always presents himself as the playboy. Surely, heโ€™s doing something right if he is keeping a multi-billion dollar cooperation running successfully.

Maybe Iโ€™m not giving the guy enough credit. Lanie told me Preston recently rebranded Westbrook Enterprises into The Westbrook Group to better encompass the partnership with his brothers. If they can rebrand something like that, thereโ€™s no reason I canโ€™t reinvent myself to be the best damn assistant Easton Westbrook has ever seen. Right

With Leo shadowing me, I make my way to the security desk and check-in.

โ€œWelcome, Ms. Heart. Youโ€™ll be on the twenty-first floor. Your badge will allow entry from the elevator.โ€ The guard is a sweet, older man whose name tag says Sam.

โ€œThank you, Sam.โ€

He smiles kindly, and Iโ€™m on my way, not at all sure Iโ€™m ready to deal with the Westbrook Beast.

The elevator dings as it comes to a stop. Taking a deep breath, I exit the car and glance around, confused. The place is empty and dark. With tentative steps, I inch forward. Ever since Miles held me captive, Iโ€™ve struggled with dark, enclosed spaces, and I hate myself for it. I should be stronger, so I force myself forward.

โ€œIโ€™m safe. This place is safe. Leo is right behind me,โ€ I silently chant.

โ€œMs. Heart?โ€ Leoโ€™s voice calls out from behind, causing my heart to stop.

With a fist on my chest, I turn. At least he appears to feel bad for startling me.

โ€œYou are safe, Ms. Heart. They locked this building down tighter than Fort Knox. I believe Mr. Westbrookโ€™s office is to the left.โ€

โ€œTh-Thank you, Leo.โ€

He smiles and ushers me forward. As I round the corner, light spills out into the hallway from a single door at the end. Stealing a breath, I force myself forward, not really sure why Iโ€™m so nervous. Reaching the open door, I raise my hand to knock when a deep masculine voice cuts me off.

โ€œGlad to see timeliness is a priority. Come in.โ€

I canโ€™t tell if heโ€™s being an ass or genuinely complimenting me, so I keep the sass to myself. Entering the room, I realize he has yet to look up from his desk. How the hell did he know I was here?

โ€œI have excellent hearing,โ€ he states, finally lifting his gaze to mine, and it knocks the air from my lungs. Fighting to keep my face neutral, I swallow, forcing the trapped air to leave. His voice softens for the briefest moment when he says, โ€œYou are always safe here, Ms. Heart.โ€

โ€œThank you,โ€ is all I say. I donโ€™t need Easton Westbrook becoming some arrogant Prince Charming. Been there, done that.

He narrows his eyes as he considers me. Then, as quickly as it came, the warmth in his voice evaporates. โ€œI expect a lot from my employees. Iโ€™m here every day at five-thirty a.m. working out in the gym because thatโ€™s when I work through most of my problems. HR told me I could no longer force my employees to be here that early, but I will require you here by seven a.m. Monday through Friday. We work long hours.โ€

The way heโ€™s glaring at me, as if Iโ€™m a charity case, makes me insane. My inner bitch is rising, and the longer I stare at his stupid, scowling face, the more I want to set her free.

โ€œIโ€™m not afraid of hard work, Easton.โ€ My indignation is showing, and I make no attempt to hide it.

I swear his lip twitches before he locks it down into the firm, straight line Iโ€™m thinking is forced.

โ€œRight. I know we are in the precarious situation of having a connection outside of work, Lexi.โ€ He says my name as if testing out a new hot sauce, and it makes me smile. โ€œBut Mr. Westbrook will suffice here in the office. I have a laptop and phone for you. A desk will be here in a couple of days, but youโ€™ll sit in that general vicinity.โ€ Easton gestures across the room.

Is he fucking kidding me with the Mr. Westbrook bullshit?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3.5 Stars

This is the first book in a new series, but there are interconnected characters with Avery Maxwellโ€™s last series (Broken Hearts) โ€” including Lexiโ€™s entire backstory. I liked the overall theme and story of book, but the details of Lexi and Eastonโ€™s relationship (or really, lack thereof) fell flat for me.

I empathized with what sheโ€™d lost, but I had a hard time really getting behind her as a broken heroine not knowing the details of what took place with her previously. I felt that way too much was glossed over, and there were conversations between characters that left me clueless. Were they talking about past events, or was it poor writing? I donโ€™t know because One Little Mistake is the first book Iโ€™ve read by Avery Maxwell.

I also felt like there were too many cases of being told, not shown โ€” like the โ€œepic meltdownโ€ that Lexi has on the porch. A few sentences of a flashback werenโ€™t enough to satisfy me with that. I liked Lexi as a heroine. I liked East as the hero. I loved their grumpy/sunshine combo. They both have trauma in their pasts, and I loved and how they both learned to heal from their scars with one another. They both had some serious baggage to work through, and their time apart as they did that was my favorite part of the book. I could see them working on their issues, and how they both grew from doing so. Also, I liked the chaos of the extended Westbrook family. But there were too many moments that had me going back to reread pages, thinking Iโ€™d missed something. Does this book run concurrently with others? Is it meant to be read in order? I have no idea!

One Little Mistake is tagged as a stand-alone, but I felt like there were too many pieces I was missing. There were teases set up for future books, which definitely caught my interest. Especially Ashton. So I will look for more from this series in the future, despite only giving One Little Mistake 3.5 stars. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

About Avery
Avery Maxwell is an American Romance Author who loves wine, sexy stories, pizza, and her family.

Avery is a hot mess of a mom to four wildly sweet mini-humans and two fur babies. She spends far too much time in her pj’s and trips over herself multiple times a day. Accident-prone is probably a fair assessment.

Having grown up in small-town Vermont, Avery often jokes about being the most naรฏve person in the room. Luckily, she’s used that small-town charm to write character-driven contemporary romances that have you laughing one minute, and crying the next.

When she isn’t refereeing (three little boys require a lot of whistle blowing), or cuddled up with her real-life Prince Charming, you can find her tucked away with a bottle of wine (because those steamy scenes don’t write themselves!), or coaching her daughter’s basketball team.

Avery now lives in North Carolina where she brings life, love, and a happily ever after to every character she writes.

Charm. Old money. A six-pack. Loves dogs. He’d be the perfect guy–if I wasn’t suing him.

Sizzling hot and full of laugh-out-loud moments, Mr. July is a perfect summer beach read!

Chase and Ryan definitely get off on the wrong foot, and that just sets up a delicious slow-burn romance between these two. Thanks to a little meddling from Ryan’s grandma! Witty banter, swoony moments, and sizzling chemistry โ€” Mr. July was an absolute delight.

I haven’t read anything by Jax Hart before, but I definitely want to check out the next book in this series, between Chase’s best friend Hunter and his sister Charlie. One of my favorite tropes!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Another Lisa Suzanne rockstar romance? Yes, please! Give me more of the Capital Kingsmen boys!

Brett is the swinging single drummer, famous for his love ’em and leave ’em one night stands. One of those nights catches up with him when he discovers that not only does he have a baby, but the kid’s mother is dying. Hannah’s sister was in a horrible accident, leaving her at the end of her rope and not knowing what to do other than reach out to Brett. Who she hates, simply because he slept with her sister and knocked her up. Brie’s death turns Brett’s life upside down as much as it does Hannah’s. Brett never wanted kids (he didn’t have the best relationship with his parents), but he stands up and does the right thing where Hannah and little Chance are concerned.

Knowing that it’s time for him to step up, Brett invites Hannah and Chance on tour with the band, so she can be Chance’s nanny and he can get to know his son. Along the way, while trapped together on a tour bus and in hotel rooms, Brett and Hannah start falling for one another. But will Brett sabotage what they have before they even get started?

I loved the connection between Brett and Hannah — their relationship is a nice slow burn that starts off with a reluctant friendship of sorts. I also really loved the growth that Brett showed from start to finish. He went from only being able to call Chance “the kid” to really being a father to the little boy. And the life-changing moment where Brett realized that he had everything he never knew he wanted and threw it all away? I’m not embarrassed to say that I cried. A beautiful grand gesture led to some groveling and a wonderful reunion for this couple. And the epilogue was just perfect!

Well, done! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Say Yes, by Kandi Steiner

Say Yes by Kandi Steiner is now live!

Two strangers.
Two words.
One unforgettable summer…

When you’re an artist, everything has to be perfect.

Or so I thought, until my professor told me my perfection was boring and unoriginal. Studying abroad in Florence has taught me one thing: I know nothing when it comes to what makes art truly beautiful.

So, with my professor’s words in my ear, I step outside one evening and decide to say yes to any and everything I’m faced with until the sun rises.

Of course, I didn’t expect him to show up.

Liam Benson, the broody, sexy, tortured artist from my class who I can’t stand. He’s got a sour outlook on the world and an ego so big no one could properly stroke it to his satisfaction.

When he finds out what I’m doing, he hijacks my “yes” night.
And after just twelve hours with him, I’m desperate for more.

But Liam is running from more than I could ever understand, and with his heart guarded and mind made up about life, I don’t stand a chance.

I convince myself that we can keep it casual.
But walking away from him at the end of the summer is as impossible as painting outside the lines.

I used to think when you’re an artist, everything has to be perfect.

Turns out everything has to be painful, and messy, and fleeting.

If only I’d known that before I fell under Liam Benson’s spell.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Holy smokes! Kandi Steiner brings ALL THE ANGST with Say Yes! Plus, it’s set in 1996 — the year I graduated college! — so I related so well to Harley! Then there is the backdrop of Florence, Italy, Steiner’s signature angst and the retro vibe of Say Yes… well, I had a major book hangover afterward!!

Liam. Broody, broody Liam. I am a sucker for a tragic hero, and this guy has all kinds of baggage weighing him down. Harley has insecurities of her own due to her disability, and the way these two navigate those demons as they try to manage a no-strings fling was beautiful. As Liam teaches Harley how to love herself despite her disability, she teaches him to let go of the guilt and grief weighing him down and forgive himself for what happened in the past. While the romance between the two characters is certainly a focal point of this book, there is so much more to Say Yes with the themes of healing, family, forgiveness, and acceptance.

“โ€ฆ In the end, you only have this very moment.”

Say Yes is a book that I know I will be coming back to time and time again! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Meet Kandi

Kandi Steiner is a bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.

When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. Sunny Shelly’s Review: Say You Want Me Audiobook, by Corinne Michaels

From New York Times Bestseller, Corinne Michaels, comes a new friends to lovers standalone romance.

Thereโ€™s no way Iโ€™ll fall for Wyatt Hennington.

He can keep his Southern drawl, irresistible smile, and those pick-up lines all to himself. I made the mistake of sleeping with him not once, but twice. Iโ€™m not stupid enough to give him round three, especially after he left me in the middle of the night so I could see myself out. I vow to return to Philadelphia and forget him.

It proves easier said than done.

When the doctor informs me Iโ€™m the winner of door prize number two, I put my life on hold and head back to Bell Buckle. Three months and if we canโ€™t make this work, Iโ€™m gone.

The problem isโ€”when the cards are stacked against us, and I canโ€™t bring myself to leave him, Iโ€™ll finally know if he truly loves me or if all my fears were real . . .

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

When a one-night stand with Wyatt leaves Angie pregnant, she finds herself moving to Bell Buckle for three months to live with the baby daddy. Wyatt has always been intrigued by Angie, and takes the opportunity to woo her… but are they only together because of the baby, or is there a true connection between these seemingly opposite people?

I wish Angie had more of a backbone, because I thought she let everyone push her around a bit too much. But i liked the connection that she and Wyatt had, and thought their relationship developed nicely on its own.

i listened to this on audio, and wish there were more chapters from Wyatt’s POV because i loved Zackary Webber and what he brought to the character. Sophie Eastlake was a delight as Angie, and hit all the nuances of the character.

Besides wishing that this book came with a trigger warning, I did enjoy it. The tragedy that hits Angie and Wyatt hit a bit too close to home for me, and it was hard to push through. But there was a beautiful conclusion for these two, and Iโ€™m glad that I did!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Next In Line, by J. Bengtsson

Next In Line by J. Bengtsson is now live!

Quinn
Just six years old when my brother was snatched off the street, I grew up in the aftermath of tragedy. While other kids were happily playing in the sandbox, I was hiding under press conference podiums listening to my parents beg for Jakeโ€™s safe return.

People ask if Iโ€™m screwed up after what happened, and I never know how to respond. Life after the kidnapping is all Iโ€™ve ever known. Well, that and being the youngest brother to a rock star. Jake was the ultimate survivor. The prodigal son. My king.

But Iโ€™m not that worshipful kid anymore, and Iโ€™m tired of walking a step behind. Iโ€™ve got the talent. Iโ€™ve got the drive. And now Iโ€™m coming for Jakeโ€™s throne.

Jess
What to do with a runaway rock star in my passenger seat?

Jess of yore wouldโ€™ve jumped at the chance. Hell, sheโ€™d already be in his lap by now. She was fearless and fun and sexy. She lived like there was no tomorrowโ€ฆ until tomorrow came calling and delivered her an ultimatum: repent or risk losing it all.

And so responsible Jess was born, the good girl who paid her rent and watered her plants and put others before herself. The new, improved version of myself represented stability and a roof overhead. Yet sometimesโ€ฆ sometimes I missed that reckless girl. Wild Jess. God, sheโ€™d been so fun.

And now Quinn was here, built like a god and asking me to play. One mindless afternoon of fun.
Surely I could spare that for a future rock legend. I could bring old Jess back for just one day.

What could possibly go wrong?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

I’m not going to lie: Cake is one of my all-time favorite books. I loved everything about Jake and Casey. Some of the other McKallister siblings’ books were hit or miss for me, and Next In Line started off a little slow. But by the time I got to the end of the book, I had fallen hook, line and sinker for Quinn and Jess.

Quinn is carrying around so much baggage as a result of Jake’s abduction, and grew up in the shadow of his big brother and all that Jake is. His meet-cute with Jess, a ride-share driver and star homes tour guide, is perfect because she has zero clue who Jake is when she becomes his Getaway Girl. Jess, too, has known tragedy in her life, and she and Quinn are kind of kindred souls. Their connection grows organically, and they share an amazing day together. After that, tho, Jess ghosts Quinn because she has a secret of her own that she doesn’t want brought to light. But fate intervenes again, and Quinn and Jess cross paths once more.

There is a lot that both Quinn and Jess have to unpack in this book. She calms his rough edges, and Quinn really comes into his own as a result of his relationship with Jess. Next In Line is full of heart and heat, lots of emotion and a twist that I wasn’t expecting. There is a FANTASTIC scene with Jake and Quinn, and it brought tears to my eye. I was so happy with Quinn and Jess’ story by the time I got to the end, and the epilogues were excellent. There is a great set-up for Grace’s book, the youngest of the siblings, and I can’t wait to read that one!

ย
She’s a hockey ref with a lot to prove as a female in the business. He saw his pro dream smash to pieces after an injury. They butt heads immediately upon meeting, but once Sam and Drew realize that they need to work together in order to receive the inheritance her grandfather left each of them, they need to find a way to move past their first impressions. First impressions that weren’t so great.

This book had a lot to offer, and it’s a nice slow burn as these characters realize just how wrong they were about the other and eventually fall in love. The characters are relatable, and I love Sam as a strong heroine, fiercely independent. And Drew has a chip on his shoulder when they first meet, but calms her down and centers her. Off Side is the first book I’ve read by this author, and while I liked it, I didn’t love it. I’m not sure why, but I just didn’t connect with Sam and Drew the way I hoped I would, and for that reason, this book lacked oomph for me.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Could Have Been Us, by Corinne Michaels

New York Times Bestselling author Corinne Michaels returns to the Willow Creek Valley Series in this stunning small town, brother’s best friend romance.

Fifteen years ago, I fell for Jack O’Donnell.

I was just a girl, but I knew my brother’s best friend was the only man I’d ever love.

On my eighteenth birthday, when I asked him to kiss me, I never imagined it would change my life so completely.

I gave Jack everything that night.

In order to move on, we had to go our separate ways and pretend like nothing happened… as though it wasn’t the greatest moment of my life.

But even that wasn’t as heartbreaking as the secret we were forced to keep.

I’ve tried not to think about how much I still love him. How I long to be back in his strong arms or the way his hazel eyes make my heart race.

Until he kisses me again. And this time there’s no turning back. This time I know what it means.

We belong together and there’s no use denying it any longer.

But our feelings aren’t the only thing that won’t stay buried, our past resurfaces and threatens to destroy our second chance at happiness.

When our love is tested once again, will we be strong enough to stand together?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

AH-MAY-ZING! Jack and Stella’s story is an emotional rollercoaster like no other that I’ve read by Corinne Michaels. Yes, I’ve said in the past that such-and-such story is better than the last. And I’ve always meant it… but Could Have Been Us totally blew me away! The secret history between Jack and Stella, how they have been in love with one another for 15 years but didn’t want to betray Grayson, how they come together during a crisis — it was all so well-written, pulls on the heartstrings, and had me in tears.

This book had me hooked from the first chapter, and I knew it was going to be a doozy. Twelve years of keeping their history together a secret, 12 years of ignoring what they felt for one another, 12 years of emotional baggage and not wanting to date someone else… I was ALL IN to see how Stella and Jack were going to make things work. The beginning of this book overlaps Return To Us (Grayson and Jessica’s story), and I loved seeing some of those scenes from Stella and Jack’s POVs. Like when Jack gets drunk and shows up at Grayson’s place swearing that he shouldn’t want to like “her” — now knowing that “her” is Stella!

Once Stella and Jack finally decide to give their relationship a go, I loved how strong they were together. I really thought that there was going to be a point where their past history and current situation tear them apart, but they fall back on one another and it was so wonderful to see them be so supportive and really work through things together.

One of my pet peeves in the best friend’s sister trope is when a romance is considered forbidden. I really liked that in Jack and Stella’s case that they were both afraid/hesitant to be together because of their shared tragic past and how Grayson would potentially view that event — not that they weren’t together because Grayson forbade Jack from dating his little sister for some arbitrary reason.

Could Have Been Us is a wonderful tale of past mistakes, future choices, what could have been, what should have been, and what finally is!
