Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I was hooked on Logan and Sabrina from the first chapter. They’ve only been dating a few months when Logan leaves to be a firefighter. While she doesn’t know why he’s ghosted her, Logan was injured on the job and spent over a year in recovery. Now, it’s two years later when he reappears in Sabrina’s life and pretends not to know her. But Sabrina isn’t backing down this time.

I’m a sucker for a wounded hero, and Logan hit all the marks! He is carrying such an immense amount of guilt over the fire that injured him and caused his friend’s death. He’s grumpy and moody, and has pushed everyone away. But he still yearns to be with Sabrina, even though he thinks she deserves more than the shell of the man that he is today.

Sabrina is a spitfire, and I loved her! Her life becomes quite the dumpsterfire in this book, but she keeps on keeping on, tenacious and determined. There’s something she hasn’t told Logan about what happened after he left town, and the way that secret blows up in her face leads to Logan ending things. By the time he finally gets his ish together, will it be too late for Sabrina to give him a third chance?

Spark is the 3rd book in the Burns Brothers series, but it is a standalone. I have not read the other books in this series, and I didn’t feel like I was missing pieces of Sabrina’s backstory. Her cousin/brothers are hysterical, and this huge family is all up in each other’s business all the time. I loved this cast of characters, and I’m definitely interested in reading more! This story was so well-written, and I just felt everything that both Sabrina and Logan were going through.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

This beautiful book!

From the beautiful moment in the prologue when Sawyer and Mindy are just kids to the wonderful end, this story is gripping. I loved the back and forth between them — Sawyer being afraid to commit because of his PTSD, and Mindy keeps going back for the little pieces that he does allow himself to show her. But when he refuses to let her all the way in, it doesn’t matter how much or for how long they love one another.

I really liked that during their split, we saw both of them working on themselves and what they want for their future. Rather than a “Six months later…” chapter header where the story just jumps ahead. I felt that seeing Sawyer’s struggle, and seeing Mindy set up her dream business, went a long way in rooting for them as a couple to get back together and be in a healthy place. I hate being told, not shown a monumental plot point like that.

Here With Me is part of a series, but is a true standalone. Sawyer’s sister and brother-in-law, Noel and Taron, were the couple in the previous book and I am definitely going to go and read their story before Deacon’s book comes out next.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Throne Away by Leddy Harper is LIVE! One-click this gorgeous royal romance today!

Adult Contemporary Romance
Blurb:

I’ve always believed that love was hard and when you found it, you held onto it with everything you have. That wasn’t the case with Ryan.

Loving him was easy, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t hold onto him.

Because I wore a crown.

And he was single father raising a child…five thousand miles away.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

How random are random meetings? Do we randomly meet people in our lives, or is the meeting orchestrated by some higher power? Throne Away is not like any other royal romance I’ve ever read, and all of the coincidences — or not — between Ryan and Moira and the times their lives have crossed paths are fascinating.

I absolutely adored this story. I binged it in one sitting before I went to bed, and the tale was still with me the next morning. From the moment that Ryan and Moira meet on a pier, I was completely captivated by their connection and their chemistry. He is an American photographer and she is the princess of an island European country — they had no business being together, but they kept running into one another. With Moira, Ryan could forget that he was the single dad whose wife left him, and Moira could pretend she wasn’t a princess.

Moira’s situation is heartbreaking. She never expected to be next in line for the throne, and she desperately wants anything but that kind of life. And with Ryan, she sees a glimpse of the life she craves. But he can’t move to Europe for risk of losing custody of his daughter. Their pasts brought them together, but their presents are keeping them apart.

There’s a twist that enables Ryan and Moira to ultimately be together, and it was one that I didn’t see coming. Bravo! And that HEA left me with a big smile on my face. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Faith:

Our story was classic.

A typical fairytale.

Two young kids falling in love under an onyx sky, making vows they didn’t understand.

He was my dream …and I naively thought I was his.

Until he bartered our love and sold me a lie.

Now, I’m returning to the life I once knew…but not as the pathetic mess that left five years ago.

I’m a married woman, wed to the richest man in Nashville.

But it seems I wasn’t the only who changed during my time away…

Hardened by life, Jace Walker’s glares drip with heat and derision.

He’s got war in his eyes and venom in his veins.

I thought I would be safe coming back home, but it seems I only ran from my present to be caught in the cross hairs of my past.

Jace:

I traded my future for a life.

I knew what was on the line when I made the deal, I knew what I could lose, but I also knew that I didn’t really have a choice.

I gambled and lost.

Now the one person I had dreamed of having a future with was walking back into my life bearing the last name and wearing the ring of another man.

Lips painted red, hair that same honey gold and there against her creamy throat was our promise to one another, still dangling, reminding me that I may have lied, but she ran.

I was a liar, she was a coward.

Now she was home, and she wasn’t mine.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Tennessee Truths is a scorching, slow burn, angst-filled second chance romance. This is the first book I’ve read by Ashley Munoz, and it was gripping right to the very end. I love that when they see each other 5 years later, there’s no swoony romantic meeting. It’s ugly and hateful and i had to know why!

Jase and Faith’s story is raw and a roller coaster or emotions. These two broken souls find healing in one another, even though they share hurts from their past. Life has really put them both through the ringer, but Jase and Faith’s journey is a magical one.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Southern Comfort, by Natasha Madison

Release Date: April 14

Buried secrets never stay hidden in the South.

Olivia
When you find out that your fiancé is arrested for swindling over ten million dollars from his clients, you do what any sane woman would do. You escape reality and go undercover, trading in your city-girl Louboutin’s for country-pumpkin cowboy boots.

It wasn’t a forever change—it was temporary. I only had to stay here until things back home got straightened out, or so I thought.

Casey
I was riding horses before I was walking, or at least that was what they told me. I always knew I would take over the family farm. It’s in my blood.

Country boy at heart, the minute I saw her dragging her luggage up the gravel driveway I knew she was out of my league.

I shouldn’t have started anything with her, because I knew she was just passing through.

I couldn’t stop it, I fell in love with her. Even though I knew, in the end, she would leave me.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 2 Stars

Meh. This was a bust for me.

Before I even got through the first chapter, I felt like I was missing pieces of the story because I hadn’t read Southern Chance, the first/previous book in this series. That is a big turn off for me when a book is supposed to be a standalone.

Ii likes Casey enough, but Olivia was wishy-washy and rather dull. I gave up about 5 chapters in.

Natasha Madison is hit or miss for me. There have been books of hers that I devoured and adored, and others, like this one, that completely fell flat.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Chasing Melody, by Erin Cristofoli

Title: Chasing Melody
Author: Erin Cristofoli
Genre: Rockstar Romance
Release Date: April 1, 2020

Chase Brighton is a dick.

Elle Holloway needs a job that will get her off of her friends couch. When one practically lands in her lap, she is determined to snag it even though the job description is vague. But when she learns that she will be working for the world famous rock star Chase Brighton, her confidence begins to waiver.
Chase might make her heart race, but his attitude sucks. He is cocky and moody. He even accuses her of wanting her fifteen minutes of fame. But he is also a single dad to the most adorable little girl—and he needs Elle to be his nanny.

Heading out on tour, the last thing Chase needs is to be confined on a bus with a woman as sexy as Elle. It’s enough to drive a man insane as his thoughts are filled with fantasies of her instead of the music he should be focused on. To keep her at arm’s length, he gives Elle a hard time at every opportunity.

As their attraction grows, they struggle to keep it professional, but sometimes fate has plans of its own. When the downsides of Chase’s fame pour a cold dose of reality on them, can they find a way to make things work, or will their differences pull them apart?
“If you don’t mind me asking, what is this place?”

“It’s a recording studio,” Claire laughed, “not that you would be able to tell from the outside. But privacy is of the utmost importance to the owner and anyone that he lets use the facility. No one wants a lot of fan fare while they are trying to focus on their music. So, let’s get down to the details, shall we? You will be working for Chase Brighton.”

My eyebrows shot up in surprise. Superstar Chase Brighton? “I’m not sure what job I could possibly do for him. Does he need a secretary for the studio or something?” I stated feeling slightly confused.

“Well, you wouldn’t be providing services for Chase per se, you’d be looking after his daughter. For your reaction, you didn’t seem all that excited when I said Chase’s name.”

I shrugged. “Should I? He’s just another celebrity.”

Claire studied me a moment. “Huh. Most women would fall at his feet.”

Rolling my eyes, I replied. “Well I’m not like most women who lose their mind over someone’s fame. Fame can lead to a big ego and I’m no ego-stroker. I definitely don’t have any kind of ridiculous crush on Chase Brighton.”

She seemed satisfied by my response. “Good, because I need this to work out. So as I said, you would be taking care of Chase’s three year old daughter, Ivy. We’re going on tour, you see, and he wouldn’t agree to go unless she came with us.”

“That’s understandable. So I would be babysitting her.”

Claire nodded. “More like a live-in nanny.”

“Wait a minute, do you mean I would be going on tour too?”

“Yep, that’s the job.”

I leaned back in my chair and let out a breath. “Wow that is a lot to take in.”

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

I read Chasing Melody in an afternoon — it’s an easy to read rockstar/nanny romance. Single dad Chase is grumpy as all hell and plain mean to Elle when she begins working as the nanny to his young daughter, Ivy, at the start of a new tour. They are stuck together on a bus for four months, and Elle does her best to keep her distance because Chase clearly doesn’t like her. Of course, the opposite is true, and Chase is totally enamored with this spitfire of a nanny who takes no crap from him.

Elle doesn’t care that Chase is a rock god, and he likes that he can be himself around her. He’s been in a writing slump lately, and Elle has given him inspiration to write new material. I liked that they didn’t keep their relationship secret from the rest of the team for very long, so they were able to be as normal a couple as they could.

But naturally, they aren’t a normal couple. And when their lifestyle differences and his celebrity cause an issue for the first time, Elle goes running and breaks both of their hearts.

I kind of disliked that she did that. I get that it created drama for their relationship, but Chase didn’t do anything wrong. And one thing that I kept thinking during the grocery store incident was, if she’d just had it delivered, none of that would have happened!

But overall, this is a cute single dad/nanny romance. Nothing unexpected, but a sweet resolution. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Take Two, by Heather M. Orgeron

Title: Take Two
Author: Heather M. Orgeron
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: March 19, 2020
Blurb
Who says you can’t marry the same mistake twice?Certainly not Nya Perez…because that’s precisely what she’s done.

Liam Watts is the bane of her existence.

Her first love. Father of her child. And breaker of her heart.

Oh, he’s also her ex-husband. Well, he was, anyway…right up til this morning,
when she woke up beside him in a Vegas hotel room, sheathed in satin and tulle
with a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach.

If it were just between the two of them, an annulment would be the obvious
solution. After all, they wouldn’t be the first to marry and divorce at the
little white chapel in the span of twenty-four hours.

But their daughter’s greatest wish has just been granted, and if there’s one
heart Nya wants to protect more than her own, it’s Ellie’s.

So, she promises to give it six months.

There’s no way she’ll be swayed by his thick southern drawl, those well-defined
abs, or that annoyingly delectable scruff lining his cheeks.

Nope. She’s got it all under control. Six months of playing house, then
everything can go back to the way it was before.

But first she’ll have to muddle through marriage with Liam—take two.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Oh, the things we do for our kids! Take Two is a clever twist on the second chance romance trope when Nya gets sucked back into a relationship with her ex-husband all for the sake of their young daughter.

From start to finish, this romcom is full of sass and laughter. I love the way Heather M. Orgeron can write something as haunting as Heartbreak Warfare and as hysterical as Take Two. Liam really pulls out all the stops to win back his ex-wife, and although Nya puts up a good fight…. she can’t help but fall head over heels again for her ex-husband.

Take a good look at Take Two! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

I really loved Lexie and Ryder. The age gap between them didn’t feel forced, and I kind of forgot at times that the wild blue-haired photographer was older than the hot hunky model. There is an immediate connection between them during the day of their photoshoot, but Ryder is a model on the rise and Lexie is sure that she’ll never see him again.

So of course, despite their busy careers and hectic schedules, fate keeps putting Lexie and Ryder in each other’s paths. The more time they spend in each other’s orbits, the more they feel drawn to one another. They put in the work to keep their connection going even when they are both on the road. And the reappearance of Lexie’s psycho ex adds an element of suspense to this sizzling hot story.

The Model is a scorching, sexy age-gap romance. Harlow Layne did a bang-up job with this one! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Kiki

Ellis Atwood is the devil. Ok, maybe that’s too harsh. Ellis Atwood is ruining my life.

First, he demolishes a perfectly good wedding trellis.

Second, he destroys a gorgeous doggie wedding that I spent ages planning. (I kid you not.)

Third, he makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, and that is not ok. I prefer the cold and harsh way my fiancé makes me feel so much better. (wait, that didn’t come out right.)

Fourth, and there is a fourth, he gets me all wound up and flustered.

And last, when he unexpectedly kissed me it made me forget my own name, or the fact that I’m getting married…in a month.

Please someone help me out. I’m a mess.

Worst part is, Ellis isn’t the bad guy I first thought he was.

And being forced to spend time with him is making me realize that he needs my help more than anything.

So what’s a girl like me to do?

Ellis

I’m only in town long enough to figure out a plan with my brother on how to save our brewery from the awfulness that is my father. Oh and be in a wedding.

Where I may or may not be crushing a little too hard on the bride-to-be. (spoiler alert, I’m crushing hard.)

She’s really cute. Like seriously.

And she has the cutest job, she’s a dog wedding planner. (I kid you not.)

I can see why Henry loves her.

I can see why everyone loves her.

I can see why I’m falling for her.

I’m usually not a relationship-type guy. Call it picky or whatnot, but usually I get bored easily. So, my plan is simple. Spend as much time with Kiki (soon to be Faniki, I know) and hopefully get bored with her adorkable smile and sexy legs that go on for miles.

Then, I can save the brewery, be the best man of the wedding, and get my butt back to Chicago and away from the happy couple.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Never Kiss A Stranger is one of those books that I started on a rainy Saturday morning and finished by the afternoon. It’s full of angst and yearning, and had me turning the page to find out more about this perfect stranger who so perfectly completed Kiki.

A few hours after a goat eats her engagement ring during goat yoga, a run-in with a drop-dead gorgeous stranger in the hardware store parking lot leaves Kiki with a broken trellis for a dog wedding — and a kiss that she can’t get out of her mind. Her fiance has never left her panting like that after a kiss, so why did this stranger leave her so out of sorts?

Ellis, meanwhile, gets the shock of his life when the pretty girl he kissed — rather than have his estranged dad see him in that parking lot — turns out to be the woman his old schoolmate, Henry, is marrying. He’s only in town to save his family’s company, and Henry just happens to work for an investment firm. He helps out with the wedding planning by being the best man, and he gets the finances to save the family brewery. Except that the more time Ellis spends with Kiki, the more time he wants to spend with Kiki.

There is no cheating. Logan Chance does a great job of showing how wrong Henry is for Kiki and how right Ellis is. And Kiki ends things with Henry before she goes out with Ellis. Their relationship is completely different than the one she had with Henry. Ellis is attentive and kind, and interested in what Kiki does. She’s not just a trophy for him the way she was with Henry.

But Henry is not okay with his ex and his old pal being together….

This book was funny and sexy, a captivating and entertaining read. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

I’ve had a crush on Dylan St. Clair since he climbed into my bedroom window ten years ago.
I was eleven, he was seventeen. A bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks with a chip on his shoulder and fresh bruises from his latest fight, he went on to play the starring role in all my teenage fantasies.
But I always knew he was off-limits. So, over the years I gave up wishing and hoping we could ever be together.
Until he kissed me on a cold beach one starry winter’s night.
Until he said those five words that changed everything.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

From the moment that bad boy Dylan climbed into her bedroom window when she was just 11 years old — to sneak into her sister’s room — Scarlett has been in love with him. He was the last guy she ever should have been with, after the toxic 8 year on and off relationship he and her sister had.

Now, Scarlett is 21, has been cut off by her wealthy father, and is happily living her life as an artist. Dylan has made a name for himself as an app designer, and is no longer the gutter rat that he was back in high school. Even though he knows he should stay away from Sienna’s little sister, he can’t help himself. “Starlet” always makes him feel like he’s worth something. She always had faith in him when no one else did.

It’s a really bumpy road for Dylan and Scarlett, and not just because she’s afraid to tell her sister they are together. He runs so hot and cold, partially because he still doesn’t feel like he’s worthy of her and he’s got some major demons in his past thanks to his messed-up childhood. But there’s a sweet connection that they have, and once Dylan gets over himself, their relationship really blossoms.

Until, of course, it falls apart thanks to big sister. I kept waiting for the reason why Dylan was so hung up on Sienna to be revealed, and once it finally was, it wasn’t what I was expecting. It worked with the parameters of the story, especially explaining how hateful the girls’ dad was toward him.

Hurt by the situation with her sister, Scarlett backs off and takes off — leading Dylan to make a big grand gesture to win her back. It’s sweet, it’s over-the-top and it really shows how much he loves her. She’s not Sienna. She’s Scarlett. And she doesn’t have to be anything but Scarlett. That tattoo. Swoon. That HEA left me with a huge smile on my face.

Sweet Chaos is a standalone, but there is some of Dylan’s history that is referenced from his sister’s book, Wilder Love. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
