The Truths We Find was a pretty darn good debut novel by Donna Bollen. Ten years after Gavin broke up with Dani over a phone call, he takes a new job and discovers that he is her new boss. On top of that, he got the position that Dani was passed over for, so she is less than thrilled to see her ex at work every day.
This story hit all the right notes for angst and pining, because Gavin has never stopped loving Dani. He is determined to get her back, but her relationship with her childhood friend, Sam, complicates matters since he picked up the pieces and helped her move on after Gavin left. And Gavin does not take the news that Dani is now dating Sam too well. The reason why becomes apparent as the story goes on and we learn more about Dani and Gavin’s past.
The Truths We Find has some really sweet moments, and I really loved Dani’s journey of self-acceptance. Once she got away from the situation she was in, she really became a spitfire of a character, and Gavin was such a solid, supportive presence for her compared to the relationship she had been in.
I really enjoyed this story, and I am looking forward to more from this author! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
About Donna Bollen:
Donna fell in love with journalism at a very young age and always knew she wanted to use it to help people. She graduated with her degree in Broadcasting, but started working in newsrooms even before she graduated, learning from award winning writers and producers. She became a full-time producer, running various hours of a morning news show for nearly eight years, earning an Emmy Award in the process.
When the pandemic hit, she felt she needed to do more and went back to school to earn her Legal Studies degree. Now, Donna works as a Trust and Estate Litigation Paralegal, giving a voice to those who no longer have one. Every day feels like she’s living in a real-life soap opera.
Donna is an avid romance reader and has her nose in a book any chance she gets. She lives on the West Coast with her husband and son.
