Sunny Shelly’s Review: Just For The Plot by Meghan Quinn

They’re just friends.

At least, that’s what she thinks. Him? He has other plans.

Bennett Brinkman is San Francisco baseball’s golden boy―focused, disciplined, and very bad at ignoring the one woman he shouldn’t want. Falling for his sister’s best friend was inevitable, even though she’s always seen him as safe, familiar, and firmly off-limits.

Bower knows exactly why wanting Bennett is a terrible idea. She’s fiercely loyal to her best friend and well aware that crossing this particular line could blow everything up. But when she moves into Bennett’s apartment building, that “just friends” boundary begins to blur in the most tempting ways.

The banter comes fast.

The sparks come faster.

And pretending it’s “no big deal” is getting ridiculous.

As feelings get messier and attraction turns undeniable, Bennett and Bower must decide if risking their family ties is worth chasing the love that’s been in front of them all along.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I have been waiting for Bower and Bennett to get together ever since I first met them in the Almond Bay series! Bennett is Gabby’s brother from The Path to Loving Him, and Bower is her best friend. Meghan Quinn set up the unrequited love between Bower and Bennett a year and a half ago, and Just For The Plot was an epic slow burn!

Bennett has had a crush on his older sister’s best friend from the moment he met her when he was a scrawny 16-year-old. Now he’s in his mid-20s and a hulking pro baseball player….. and his crush on Bower has only grown over the years as their own friendship deepened. When she moves to San Francisco and gets an apartment in his building, Bennett jumps at the opportunity to make his move on Bower.

Of course, that doesn’t go smoothly, especially when Bennett sets Bower up with another athlete to make himself look better and it backfires spectacularly. Even after Bower gives in to the chemistry between them, the battle isn’t over for Bennett because he has to fight against her guilty conscience. Bower agonizes over betraying Gabby, and it was heartbreaking to see both characters go through that!

The audiobook of Just For the Plot is a full cast duet narration led by Teddy Hamilton and Samantha Brentmoor, who were phenomenal in delivering every nuanced emotion of Bennett and Bower’s story. The other characters are voiced by Connor Crais (presenting a surprise POV chapter from Graydon!), J. F. Harding, Emma Wilder, Stella Hunter, and Jason Clarke.

Some of the story overlaps with Just for the Cameras, but Just for the Plot is a standalone. Although I totally recommend Just for the Cameras as well! I loved the cameos from Gabby and Ryland, and the tie-in to MQ’s Bridesmaids for Hire series. The last man standing in the Bay Area Players series is OC — a character who has been around in the MQ universe for quite a while — and I really can’t wait for him to get his HEA!!!! And I wouldn’t mind seeing Cougar as the MMC in a book someday!

Another outstanding romcom from Meghan Quinn! I received a complimentary copy and voluntarily left a review.
