Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars
I was really looking forward to Into the Fading Twilight after getting the epilogue in Across the Vanishing Sky, and Catherine Cowles did not disappoint with Nova and Kol’s story!
Kol is the forest services deputy who rescued Nova after she spent a year in captivity at the hands of a serial killer. She’s struggling to reacclimate and adjust to living with her best friend, Brae, who is now dating Kol’s brother Dex. When Nova begins to feel suffocated by the expectations and pressure of living with Brae and Dex, Kol offers her a space of her own in the apartment above his garage. Kol also just happens to *get* Nova in a way that Brae doesn’t seem to anymore.
As a single father to Skylar (love that girl!), Kol’s entire identity has become wrapped up in work and raising his daughter. He never carved out time for himself until Nova came along. He also doesn’t think he’s deserving of love because of the damage caused by his serial killer father. Yet there’s something about Nova that seems to steady the unease that lives inside of Kol.
Now, with another monster on the loose, Nova’s life seems to be in jeopardy again. And since Kol is heading the investigation, getting involved with the victim is the last thing he should be doing. But the connection between these two characters is undeniable, and they find in each other exactly what they have been missing from life.
The audiobook is performed in duet by Sebastian York and Brittany Pressley, who did a great job with these characters. (The audio is a full cast with Connor Crais, Adam Gold, Teddy Hamilton, and Jason Clarke rounding out the rest of the Archer brothers.)
Catherine Cowles always does a spectacular job with her romantic suspense stories, but this one hit a bit extra because of Nova’s traumatic past. Still, CC did a great job in writing the character, especially how she dealt with Nova’s mental wellness in the aftermath of her abduction. Nova is such a fighter.
Into the Fading Twilight was a beautiful story of survival and healing! Now, bring on Maverick! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
