Fired from her corporate motivational speaking job just weeks before Christmas, Sloane Morozov makes the decision to spend Christmas at the same lakeside cabin resort from her childhood. Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Cole and Mistletoe is a lighthearted Christmas romance that combines a grumpy workaholic, a heroine who is realizing how much she’s missed out on thanks to her career, a snowstorm that brings them together at a mountain resort, and a random coincidence that threatens to tear them apart.

I loved Cole and Sloane’s awkward meet-cute and enjoyed how they came out of that first weird meeting and developed a friendship. Reluctantly at first on his part. The more time they spent together as the only two guests at the resort, the more they realized how much they liked the other person after all. Maybe it was the setting, maybe it was meeting someone else from Texas all the way in Lake Tahoe, but for the first time, workaholic Cole started thinking he wanted more from a woman. But when their Tahoe bubble bursts and the real world intrudes, will Cole and Sloane be able to make it work outside of their cabins?

This cute story is the perfect read for fans of the forced proximity trope. It’s not a terribly long book, there’s not a lot of drama, and it ends with a wonderful HEA.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: A Wonderful Lie by Carrie Aarons

A Wonderful Lie by Carrie Aarons is now live!

Everyone lies around the holidays. We lie about the money we’re spending. We lie that we’re following our diets.

What am I lying about this year? The fact that my workplace nemesis has become my friend-with-benefits.

Collin Machlan and I have been each other’s competition since we joined our college’s radio station freshman year. Six years later, we’re both hosting shows for the country’s most popular podcast network.

Just as everything starts turning red and green, our boss announces a promotion, and whoever gets the most listens during this merry season will be crowned the winner.

There is just one catch; the only way to draw an audience in December is to theme every episode around Christmas. For a woman who typically celebrates alone with takeout and slasher flicks, I’m at a big disadvantage.

Going toe-to-toe with the guy I’ve never been able to intimidate is only made harder by the fact that Collin doesn’t seem to want to play our usual games. Add in some mistletoe and a Secret Santa swap, and I finally give in to his shameless flirting.

Maybe it’s the delusion of cuffing season, but suddenly I’m spending every night with him. No one at work knows. Neither does his family, or my friends. I lie that it’s just physical. That me, a self-proclaimed bachelorette, couldn’t possibly be on the brink of a relationship. I lie that we’re still competing for a job he doesn’t even want.

Until one too many lies threatens to topple my life like a crooked tree with poorly-distributed ornaments. And I’m left to decide between my lonely and blue traditions, or a love that lasts all year round.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Buckle up, buttercup, because A Wonderful Lie is going to jingle your bells all season long! In this sexy holiday story, Carrie Aarons weaves her usual magical storytelling and somehow ups the ante 1000 percent with the spice level. Collin and Lark’s story is a wonderfully sweet and sexy treat, like someone took a sweet Hallmark holiday movie and spiced it way, way up!

I will never be able to look at snow the same way again!

I loved the banter that these two had as dating podcasters at the same company. It went beyond office rivals since they’ve known each other since college. This book has definite Hating Game vibes as Lark and Collin compete for a coveted timeslot. And when their typical exchange of barbs turns into a lust-filled kiss, this book takes a Fifty Shades turn. Wowza! It was more than I’m used to seeing from Aarons, but I’m not complaining!

Beyond the heat and lust, these two characters are wonderful creations. They are so real and honest with their emotions, wants, and expectations, and that makes it very easy for the reader to connect with them. Collin is such a good guy, despite Lark’s initial impression of him. And as their one-night stand turns into something more, he’s the one to catch feelings first and realize that it may not be so bad to get attached during cuffing season after all. But while he goes all in, Lark always has one foot out the door. She’s got some heavy baggage thanks to a not-great childhood. Will she let Collin be the one to help her through it?

Carrie Aarons is one of my favorite authors, and I believe A Wonderful Lie has become one of my favorite books of hers! Happy Reading!

Short and sweet but full of holiday goodness!

Office rivals. A fake date. A goat. A road trip to a small town at Christmas for a family wedding. Family drama. One bed. And a big confession that changes everything.

I devoured Clover and Nick’s story. She couldn’t fathom why her grumpy co-worker could possibly want to go home with her to attend her sister’s wedding — to Clover’s ex-boyfriend, of all people. But Clover would rather take along the grumpy, sexy Clark Kent lookalike than attend the wedding solo. The setup was perfect for a not-so-fake fake holidate even if Clover was unaware that Nick wasn’t faking it at all.

Because this is a novella, the story is relatively fast-paced but unfolds at a perfect tempo. And once Nick realizes that Clover is ready for him to make his move, he goes in with guns blazing. It’s heartfelt and steamy, and a perfect binge-read for the holiday season!

From USA Today and Amazon Charts bestselling author Meghan Quinn comes a festive short romance about old flames and mistaken identities.

After a bad breakup, Nola wants nothing to do with Christmas, especially in her quaint hometown of Bright Harbor, Maine. Infuriatingly charming and cheery, Nola’s surroundings only worsen her sour mood.

To make matters worse, Caleb, the boy who broke her heart years ago, is all grown up and still living in town. While doing her best to avoid him, Nola bumps into the local mailman, who gives her a mysterious letter. And when she finds that the writer is a fellow Scrooge, she can’t help but feel her spirit lifting.

Nola writes back to her new pen pal—who, unbeknownst to Nola, is none other than Caleb. When Caleb gets a response hand delivered by the mailman, he’s intrigued by the mystery sender. A friendly correspondence develops—and quickly turns flirtatious.

Although Nola and Caleb claim they can’t stand each other, they can’t deny the simmering attraction that brought them together in the first place.

Can these nameless pen pals write their own love story—or will they be too caught up with the ghosts of their Christmases past to find a future together?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Grab a cup of hot cocoa, sit in a dark room by the glow of a fireplace or Christmas tree and enjoy this delightful holiday novella from Meghan Quinn! What would you do if you moved back home during the holiday season and found out that your secret also-hates-Christmas pen pal is the guy who broke your heart?

Caleb (Resting Scrooge Face) and Nola (Ho-Ho-No) are adorable! They are both suffering from a bit of Scrooginess this holiday season, so mailman Arden decides to play matchmaker and deliver secret pen pal letters back and forth between them. As they write to one another, Caleb and Nola each begin to smile again, hum Jingle Bells, and even get into the holiday spirit! Meanwhile, Caleb and Nola keep bumping into each other around town, and it’s clear that there are loads of unresolved feelings between them.

Since this is a novella, they quickly resolve the issues stemming from their breakup, and there’s a wonderful scene when they realize who the other is. It’s a Christmas miracle!

This book is set in both Meghan Quinn’s Port Snow universe — Bright Harbor is the next town over, and just a hair not-as-Christmassy as Port Snow! — and is also connected to the baseball series since Nola is the sister of Ryot from Untying The Knot.

I didn’t know he was a billionaire and a single dad the night he was stranded with me and only one bed.
Marc has been in my bar a few times before. We often exchanged a few words, but this time was different. His flight was delayed and then cancelled, so I joined him for a drink after closing and got to know him… really well.
As good as he looked in suits, nothing prepared me for Marc without one. Or the way he held me afterwards, despite me telling him I never do that.
Whatever. What’s one night of rule breaking? I’d never see him again anyway.
Except, when I finally land a prestigious architecture trainee position in New York, I find myself on his doorstep.
Marc’s full of surprises.
He never mentioned he had a daughter.
This is a complication I don’t know if I’m ready for. It was supposed to be one night of harmless fun, but now he won’t let me go.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3 Stars

One lonely Christmas Eve, Gracie spends a wild night with a handsome stranger who had been into the bar where she works several times before. He was from out of town, nothing more could come from it, but they gave in to their wild connection and spent a magical night together before he left Chicago and Gracie behind the next day.

Fast forward a few months, and Gracie lands an apprenticeship working with an architect in New York City. And the architect representing the other company on the joint project is none other than Marc. Their second meeting is full of awkwardness — not only are they both surprised to see the other, but Gracie mistakenly believes Marc is married — but eventually they reignite the spark that is still flickering between them.

I liked this second-chance romance, but I didn’t love it. Marc is quite the alpha male, and there are enough tender and swoony scenes mixed in with all of the heat and passion. But I felt a little lost while reading this story. Like I felt like I was missing out on a lot of Gracie’s backstory. I later discovered that she is a side character in another book, so maybe that’s where her background was explained. There were many conversations between Gracie and Ava that alluded to past events that I felt like I was clueless about. I also wish there was more Christmas in this book, considering the title.

But overall, Gracie and Marc’s story is a cute second-chance romance. I received an advanced story and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Tempt by Melanie Harlow

Nothing so wrong should ever feel so right.

TEMPT, an all-new steamy small town, one-night-stand, age gap romance featuring a plus-sized heroine and a hot single dad from USA Today and #1 Amazon Bestselling Author Melanie Harlow, is now available!

You’ve heard the story about the wedding planner who falls for the groom?
Well, this is the one where she falls for his father.
And that groom? He’s my ex.

I didn’t realize who the gruff, gorgeous older man was the night he rescued me from a creep in a Manhattan hotel bar. All I knew was that a hot, bearded stranger with a protective streak showed up right when I needed a reminder that real gentlemen still exist.

(Although he left his manners behind after asking me up to his room.)

It was the hottest night of my life, but I never thought I’d see the former Navy SEAL again.

Imagine my surprise at the rehearsal dinner one week later, when my sexy one-night stand is introduced as the father of the groom. Even more surprising? That temptation we felt in New York was no fluke.

In public, we pretend there’s nothing between us.

In private, we can’t keep our hands off each other.

The situation is beyond complicated. Zach never even knew he’d fathered a child until recently, and he wants to earn his son’s trust and respect. As for me, I’m looking for a man who wants to start a family, and Zach has made it clear he’s not that man. He’s fifteen years older, newly divorced, and he lives across the country.

But no matter how many times we draw the line, we keep crossing it.

Nothing so wrong should ever feel so right.

“I think about you every minute of the day. I wish I could be the one, Millie Rose.”

“Maybe in another life, you could have been.”

I adored this story! Melanie Harlow did such a fantastic job creating Millie and Zach’s love affair. It was spicy, it was unpredictable, it was swoony, it was forbidden, it was something neither of them ever expected — and it was oh-so-tempting.

How could something so wrong feel so right? Everything made sense when Millie and Zach were together. All of a sudden, the guy who never wanted a commitment realized how much he enjoyed being with the temptress he met at a bar during a blizzard. And when Millie was with Zach, she just shone. I mean, she was a great heroine to begin with. Confident, sassy, smart, sure of herself (and curvy, which I appreciated!). But there was this other side of her that came out when she and Zach were meeting up in hotel rooms and her house in secret, and she just glowed.

But if only the 14-year age gap was the only complication between them. The want and longing and guilt lept off the page as Millie and Zach tried to figure out how they could continue to see one another yet not ruin the tenuous relationship he was building with his grown son. Her ex-boyfriend. There is heartbreak before they get there, but these two characters go on a marvelous journey together!

I really don’t want to say goodbye to Cloverleigh Farms and the MacAllisters! I hope there are books for the twins someday! Also, there are some GREAT Easter eggs in Tempt for Corinne Michaels fans — namely Jackson Cole since Zach works for Cole Security.

About UNTYING THE KNOT:

A spin-off from the #1 Amazon bestsellers, A Not So Meet Cute and So Not Meant To Be, USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn brings you a heart-warming, yet hilarious full-length novel on what life is like after the happily ever after.

Ryot Bisley is my husband.

Yes, the former third baseman for the Chicago Bobbies and absolute heart throb of the Windy City. That Ryot Bisley.

The first time I ran into him, he was grumpy, a horrific host, and left me on his sofa with nothing but a nylon baseball flag to use as a blanket.

The second time, he reluctantly bought me dinner, stared at my chest the entire night, and still sported that permanent frown.

The third time . . . well, that was a game changer. His smile captured me, his teasing charmed me, and his touches excited me.

So when he was called up to the majors that didn’t stop us from knocking it out of the park and all the way down the aisle.

Eleven years later…I’d love to say we’re happy as ever but the man who sent me dirty text messages every day is long gone and Mr. Frowny Face is back.

He’s so focused on trying to build a life after baseball that he doesn’t see the life we’ve already created together. . .so I make the hard decision and serve him divorce papers.

Problem is…my husband refuses to accept those papers. Instead, he has a new game plan that makes untying the knot of our marriage a little tricky. And just when I thought I wanted to be traded . . . he’s slowly, tantalizingly roping me back in.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Oh my gosh. This beautiful, beautiful, story is a masterpiece. This marriage in peril story is unlike anything else Meghan Quinn has put out, and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Ryot and Myla’s story was still full of the same heartfelt and lighthearted and sexy moments that I’ve come to expect from Meghan… but it was just ramped up so much against the situation of her wanting a divorce and him being blindsided.

The story is told in chapters past and present, so we witness Ryot and Myla’s growing friendship and eventual romance juxtaposed against their unraveling marriage. How did they get to where they are today? Can Myla ever forgive her husband for his betrayal? Will Ryot ever figure out how he let her down?

This story is deep. Myla’s childhood was a mess, and she has so many issues. She’s learned to cope and manage better, and it’s interesting to see how she retreats to that broken place again amid the breakdown of her marriage.

Fans of Quinn’s will love the cameos from other characters, like the baseball guys, and the Cane brothers. We even get to attend JP and Kelsey’s wedding!

This book will make you laugh, and cry, and cry some more. My heart broke around chapter 13 and I wasn’t sure I was going to recover! Narrators Jason Clarke and Stella Hunter, working in dual narration, were magnificent telling this story! Their portrayals were nuanced and I felt every up and down they went through.

Macon and Lennon’s story comes to a wonderful conclusion in This Life and All The Rest. Despite all that has happened between them, these two soulmates find their way back together. But it is a doozy of a rollercoaster to get there!

The book picks up where The Love of My Next Life left off — It’s four years after prom, Lennon is living in Paris, and gets a phone call from Claire summoning her home. There is so much hurt and anger between Macon and Lennon. They each felt abandoned by the other, and they both have gone through SO MUCH during the last four years. It’s all framed around a family crisis, bringing Lennon’s relationships with her dad, stepmom, and Macon’s sister Claire into the mix as well.

Bit by bit, Macon and Lennon learn what the other had gone through during their time apart. My heart broke for them both because there was just so much that happened, and so much of it could have been prevented! But that heartache and pain led to a wonderful HEA for this couple and I loved their journey to finding one another again!

How the Grump Saved Christmas:

Hardworking Isabelle Cook has a serious problem. Her family farm, site of Tilikum’s Christmas Village, is in trouble. Big trouble. And worst of all? The man trying to buy it is none other than the grumpiest, grinchiest man of them all—Elias Stoneheart.

That’s a big nope. She’s not letting him get involved. Not with his heart made of coal.

Elias Stoneheart is in the business of making money, not friends. Especially when his boss is promising a long-awaited promotion. All he has to do is convince one struggling family to sell their farm.

The problem? It’s Cook Family Farm. And Isabelle Cook is his ex.

He might have history with Isabelle, but this is just business. A Christmas-loving farm girl is not going to come between him and his ambition.

And Christmas? He hates it. Christmas Village needs to go.

But as Elias spends time in the small town, holiday spirit—and Isabelle—get under his skin. And she might be the only one who can melt the ice around his heart.

Author’s Note: a sassy farm girl takes on a grumpy businessman in this cozy, snowy, small-town Christmas romance. Saucy banter, a guard donkey, plenty of holiday cheer, and a heartwarming happily ever after that will make you believe in the magic of Christmas.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Four truths, no lies: I love feel-good Christmas movies. The grumpy/sunshine trope is my new romcom favorite. I’m a sucker for a second-chance romance. And I am a huge fan of Claire Kingsley’s books. Mash them all together, and you get this absolutely charming holiday book!

How The Grump Saved Christmas is one of those books where I could just envision each scene playing out like a movie. I was intrigued by Elias and Isabelle’s story when I first met her in Rewriting The Stars, and was thrilled that we would get to go back to Tilikum — at Christmastime! — to get to know them better. (But don’t worry, Grump is a stand-alone, second-chance story. Don’t let that stop you from reading the Bailey Brothers series next, however!)

I adored Elias and Isabelle. She is sassy and fierce. And he sure is grumpy. But after these former high school sweethearts reconnect and they spend more time together, her hate for him softens, and his ice-cold heart melts and starts beating again.

I had the pleasure of listening to Stephen Dexter and Samantha Brentmoor being this delightful story to life, and they perfectly played these characters. This story hit all the right notes when it comes to a second chance, small-town romance, and it is a story I know I will come back to time and time again.
