Contemporary Romance

Blurb:

Hollywood is a temptress, a trickster, a soul-stealing devil. I married an A-list player, knowing I come second place to his craft. But Lucas and I are a golden couple, a modern-day fairy tale.

I’ve never doubted what we built…until the sudden death of Lucas’s best friend has scandal rocking the Hills and shaking the foundation of our relationship.

I chose Lucas as my safe haven…he chose the role of a lifetime.

For the next three months, I’ll share my nights with a stranger, watching as he buries his pain, immersed in his role and living as someone else.

We’ve done this before. I tell myself it’s just another movie, and he’ll return to me.

I should’ve known this time would be different.

To get my husband back, I’ll need the strength of ten men.

As it turns out, I’ll have to go through two.

EXCERPT:

Hours later I wake up confused when rough hands grip my hips and pull me toward the edge of our bed. Caught off guard and still mildly buzzed, I look up to see Lucas briefly before I’m flipped on my stomach.

I’d either pushed a button earlier and pissed off my husband when I stripped in front of his friends, or I’m being handled by Nikki Rayo.

No words are spoken, no kisses are exchanged. It doesn’t matter, my body recognizes his and my need outweighs all moral thought.

“Okay, Nikki, let’s play.”

New Release: Getting Hot With The Scot, by Melonie Johnson

Getting_Hot_with_the_Scot_Tour_Banner.png

ABOUT THE BOOK:

The first in a new series, a journalist focused on her career and a sexy Scottish comedian turn a one night stand into forever.

Cassie Crow leaves for vacation with two goals: fill up her empty charm bracelet and have a one night stand. For once, she wants to have fun instead of obsessively checking her work email. And kissing a man in a castle who’s dressed as a Scottish Highlander is the perfect solution.

Except when that man turns out to be Logan Reid, the host of a popular sketch show—and Cassie has just been roped into his latest prank. She wants nothing to do with his antics, but that was a really great kiss, and one night together couldn’t hurt.

It’s clear that one night isn’t enough and when Logan’s show brings him closer to Cassie, they decide to give dating a try. Can the woman who’s focused solely on her career and the man who refuses to take life seriously make it work?

Getting Hot with the Scot_cover.jpg

EXCERPT

Would you look at that? The man is wearing a kilt.

Note to self: Cassie Crow—be careful what you wish for.

The man groaned again and raised a hand to shield his eyes from the sunlight now cutting across the hidden al- cove.

“Are you all right?”

“I will be fine once ye douse that blasted light.” He squinted up at her. “Be ye a new chambermaid?”

Chambermaid? She eyed the wide sleeves and open neck of the old-fashioned piratey shirt he wore. “Not sure what kind of weird-ass stuff you’re into buddy, but I don’t do RPG.”

“Weird . . . ass?” His dark red brows drew together as he shaped his mouth around the letters. “Are pee gee?”

“Role playing games. You know, like cosplay or what- ever.” She pointed at him. “Look, you’re the one wearing that get-up and talking like a reject from Macbeth.”

He narrowed his eyes at her finger. “Be ye a witch?” “What did you call me?”

With another groan, he lurched forward. Oh God, what if he was hurt? For all she knew he was a member of some

historic castle tour who got lost in a back passageway and hit his head. She leaned down to inspect him for bruises.

He threw a hand out, palm up, warding her off. “Back away, sorceress,” he hissed.

“Seriously?” She slapped his hand out of the way. “Here, let me help you out of there.” Cassie tugged gently on his shoulder. The voluminous shirt was loose, but she could feel—and appreciate—the thick spread of muscle beneath the soft fabric.

Just my luck, I finally run into a hot Highlander, and he’s delusional.

The man waved off her assistance and struggled to his feet, shaking a wild tousle of thick, red hair out of his eyes. Cassie never fancied herself to be a ginger girl, but it worked on him . . . or maybe that was the kilt talking. She eyed the swath of plaid fabric wrapped around his hips and wondered, like any female in her position would, what might or might not be under there. Reluctantly, she raised her gaze and caught him scrutinizing her in return.

“What be these strange breeks ye wear?” he asked, moving in a circle around her.

Cassie swore she could feel the weight of each of his eyeballs resting on her denim-clad backside. Fair enough. After a prolonged moment, she glanced over her shoulder. “Get a good look?”

“Aye.” He swallowed. “’Tis most unseemly, lass.” He shook his head, gaze still glued to her ass.

“They’re called jeans.” She pivoted to face him. “Are you for real?”

He met her gaze, his answer falling from his lips in a deep, rich brogue with trilling r’s that curled her toes, “Aye, lass, I’m real.”

Cassie’s heart hiccupped. Of course he’s real. Unless

those shots were stronger than I thought. “Were you at the whisky tasting?”

“Whisky?” His green-gold eyes lit with interest. “Do ye have whisky for me, then? I could use a wee dram. Be a good lass and fetch it for me.”

“Ha! I think you’ve had enough, mister. Is that how you ended up stuck in there?” Even as she said this, Cassie doubted it. She didn’t smell a hint of alcohol on him, though she did pick up other pleasant smells. Mint and clove and man and . . . Stop being ridiculous.

His broad shoulders lifted and dropped. “I dinna ken.” “How long were you in there?”

Another shrug.

Cassie dragged her attention away from the wide curve of his shoulders and leaned past him, inspecting the dark, narrow space behind the bookshelf.

He grabbed her wrist and pulled her back, panic edg- ing his voice. “Nay, lass. Doona be going in there.”

“Why not?” She inched forward and tried to get a better look.

“It canna be safe.” He tugged on her wrist again, his fingers warm and firm.

Tiny butterflies danced along the path where his skin touched hers. She brushed away the tingling sensation and slipped out of his grip, careful not to snag her bracelet. “Well, you were in there, and you appear to have man- aged.”

“Are ye daft, wench? I was trapped!”

She sniffed, not sure she liked being referred to as a wench, and frowned up at him. “What’s the last thing you remember?”

He closed his eyes and slumped against the shelf. “I canna recall anything afore the moment I woke to find my-

self crammed within yonder wall.” He blinked and focused intently on her. “The moment I found you, lass.”

Cassie decided she liked being called lass much better than wench, especially when he was looking at her like that. Gazes locked, her other senses sharpened, heighten- ing her awareness of his body and its proximity to hers. She cleared her throat. “Hm. I think it’d be more accurate to say I’m the one who found you.” Telling herself she was only searching for injuries, she reached up and tentatively skimmed her palms along his temples, her fingers trailing his scalp.

“Looking for devil’s horns?” The man cocked one wicked brow at her as he raised his arms to mirror her movements, running his hands over her head and shoul- ders before brushing his palms down her back. “Ye’ve naught got any fairy wings, so I’d say we’re even. In fact,” he whispered against her hair, standing so close the low burr of his voice became a purr in her own chest, “ye feel perfect to me.”

Like the migrating monarchs her dad studied, the butterflies made a return trip, enveloping her in a fluttery haze. She shivered. Whether it was the Scot or the scotch or both, Cassie didn’t care. He was here and she was here, and damn it all, it was about time she skipped to the good stuff. With a forceful mental click, Cassie turned off her brain, tilted her chin up, and caught his mouth with hers.

He made a low sound in the back of his throat, of pro- test or surprise, she wasn’t sure. But then his hands settled at her waist, and he returned the kiss. His mouth was somehow soft and hard at the same time, and when he slipped his tongue between her lips, she felt more light- headed than if she’d downed every shot of whisky that had been on that tasting list.

Cassie rolled her tongue against his, savoring the delicious contact. He met her thrust for thrust, deepening the kiss until she was swept away on a tidal wave of desire. This. This is what I’ve been waiting for. She clung to him, hands gripping his shoulders, swimming in sensation, drowning in it.

New Release: Sunny Shelly Reviews Fluffy, by Julia Kent

Title: Fluffy
Author: Julia Kent
Genre: Romantic Comedy/Contemporary Romance
Release Date: April 30, 2019

Blurb
An all-new STANDALONE from New York Times bestselling author Julia Kent
It all started with the wrong Help Wanted ad. Of course it did.
I’m a professional fluffer. It’s NOT what you think. I stage homes for a
living. Real estate agents love me, and my work stands on its own merits.
Sigh. Get your mind out of the gutter. Go ahead. Laugh. I’ll wait.
See? That’s the problem. My career has used the term “fluffer” for
decades. I didn’t even know there was a more… lascivious definition of the
term.
Until it was too late.
The ad for a “professional fluffer” on Craigslist seemed like divine
intervention. My last unemployment check was in the bank. I was desperate. Rent
was due. The ad said cash paid at the end of the day.
The perfect job!
Staging homes means showing your best angle. The same principle applies
in making a certain kind of movie. Turns out a “fluffer” doesn’t arrange
decorative pillows on a couch.
They arrange other soft, round-ish objects.
The job isn’t hard. Er, I mean, it is — it’s about being hard. Or, well…
helping other people to be hard.
Oh, man…
And that’s the other problem. A man. No, not one of the stars on the
movie set. Will Lotham – my high school crush. The owner of the house where
we’re filming. Illegally. In a vacation rental.
By the time the cops show up, what I thought was just a great house
staging gig turned into a nightmare involving pictures of me with a naked star,
Will rescuing me from an arrest, and a humiliating lesson in my own naivete.
My job turned out to be so much harder than I expected. But you know
what’s easier than I ever imagined?
Having all my dreams come true.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

This book is laugh-out-loud funny from the start! The comedy of errors that leads to Mallory and Will crossing paths a decade after she crushed on him — hard! — in high school was hysterical. I was reading late at night in bed and had to try to stifle my laughs.

Besides the funny writing by Julia Kent, the premise of this story was quite original: Professional home stager Mal answers a Craigslist ad for a “fluffer” — an old name for her profession — and has no idea that she’s just accepted a job on a porn set. Illegally filming in the rental home owned by her high school crush, Will. A few days later, Will hires Mallory (who needs a job, desperately) to stage homes for his real estate company. It’s a perfect win/win — and the sexual tension simmers between them with every flirty exchange.

There is such a wonderful slow burn between Will and Mal, which I loved. He really worked for her, and that made his confession to her at the end of the book all the more sweeter. Their exchanges were hysterical, and I thought they were a really well-rounded couple.

The secondary characters in this book were wonderfully quirky as well. Mal’s mom had me in stitches, and her friends Fiona and Perky are the kinds of girlfriends everyone needs in their tribe. And I absolutely loved the set-up in the bonus epilogue for Perky’s upcoming book with her ex!

Fluffy is actually the first book of Julia Kent’s that I’ve read, and now I know why she is a romcom queen. I will defintely be on the lookout for the rest of this series! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt

“I can’t
tonight. I have a date,” I blurt out, remembering David. The dating app. The
asshole who isn’t an asshole.
Yet. I
haven’t met him, so that judgment remains withheld.
“A date?”
Will asks, intrigued.
“Yes. A
date. You know, that thing where you go out with someone who has no intention
of really getting to know you and you spend the entire time eating bread that
doesn’t taste as good as your date claims and trying to decide whether to
initiate rescue-text sequences with your mom.”
“That’s
your idea of a date?”
“That is my
actual experience of every date I’ve had since college.”
“You’re
dating the wrong guys.” He holds my gaze for just a little too long. I look
away.
“I have to
keep fishing in the pond if I ever want to catch a different one.”
“If that’s
the way you talk to your dates, I am beginning to understand why they all turn
out so badly.”
“Hey!”
“What?”
“Don’t
accuse me of being a bad date. I’m a great date! I Google the guy in advance
and read his LinkedIn profile. I make sure I don’t wear super-tall heels in
case he lied about his height on his dating profile. I pretend to care about
all his hobbies and don’t reveal that I’m secretly tallying all the
micro-aggressions he’s sending my way during appetizers and wine. And if he
makes it to dessert, well–” I falter.
“You never make
it to dessert, do you?” Will asks, eyebrows up. He drops them quickly, wincing.
“I–well–it’s
not that I don’t. He doesn’t!”
“He ditches
you?”
“No! No!
It’s just that he always has a thing.”
“A thing?”
“A work
emergency. Or a dog with a twisted bowel. Or a grandma in the ER.”
“How many
guys used the twisted-canine-intestine thing?”
“Three.” I
sit down and sag against his teenage desk, elbows sliding forward, fingers deep
in my hair. “I looked it up. There’s an entire subreddit devoted to inventive
ways to get out of a bad date.”
“And yet
here you are.” He leans against the edge of his desk. “Trying again.”
“I’m a
masochist.”
His eyes
gleam. “Maybe you should start your dates with that line. ‘Hi. I’m Mallory
Monahan. I’m a masochist.’ You’d definitely make it to dessert.”

Title: IN OTHER WORDS

Author: Jennifer Woodhull

Genre: Romantic Comedy

About IN OTHER WORDS:

Dexter

We became close friends in college. When Sinclair returns home to Dallas after two years in New York, I introduce her to my best friend Cole. The good-looking playboy ballplayer is the perfect kind of guy for the woman I’m sure would never be interested in me…even if seeing them together breaks my heart.

Sinclair.

He was the nerdy PhD candidate. I was the cheerleader. We made unlikely friends. Moving back home after two years away, he looks hotter than ever. When I start dating his ballplayer best friend, things get complicated. He doesn’t see me as girlfriend material…but I can’t get him, or my feelings for him, out of my head.

Exclusive Excerpt:

“She’s so fucking pretty,” Cole says, lolling his head back and forth against the headrest of my Tesla.

The phrase irritates the crap out of me. I feel like I want to punch him. Not that I’ve ever punched anyone, but that’s what this feels like—like I want to commit violence against my friend for using such a pedestrian description for a creature as indescribably spectacular as Clair.

“I don’t know though, man. She said she’d go out with me, but I’m not really sure she likes me.” Cole shakes his head. “It makes me kinda nervous. Usually, girls love me.” He turns to me and wriggles his eyebrows. “I mean, they really love me. It’s just…I don’t know. She’s different.”

“She is different. She’s intelligent, kind, inquisitive, funny…She’s definitely not like anyone else I know.” My response is a knee-jerk reaction in defense of the woman that holds so much of my heart. I immediately regret it saying these things, though. Idiot. Why are you selling him on how great she is? He already got something I’ll never have—a date with her.

“What sorta stuff should I talk to her about?” He asks.

“What do you usually talk to your dates about?”

“I usually say. ‘Hi. I’m a famous athlete. Also, I’m rich and have a huge cock. Let’s go to your place.’ Then they say okay, and we go to their place and fuck. If they’re good at it, I keep going back, and then we’re basically dating.” He shrugs.

I pull into the driveway and the gate closes behind us. I drop my head to the steering wheel and let out a long, deep breath.

“Cole, let me be clear,” I say carefully. “Clair is my friend. She’s my best friend.”

“I thought I was your best friend.”

“You’re my best male friend. She’s my best friend.”

“So I’m not your best friend? Ouch, bro.”

“You’re in the top two.”

Only two, really, but that’s not really the point.

“That’s not so bad, I guess. Hey, imagine if me and Sinclair got married someday. When you come to visit us, you’d get to see your two best friends at once!” He grins.

I’m dying. Oxygen is no longer getting into my bloodstream and my organs are shutting down. It’s the only explanation I can think of for the hell in which I find myself trapped.

“Again, Cole, let me be crystal clear. Do not treat Clair like some piece of ass. Don’t just sleep with her if you’re not serious about her.” My words are a caution.

He looks at me and his expression is earnest. “I wouldn’t do that, Dexter. I’m not an asshole.”

“I know you’re not an asshole. I just mean…” I blow out a breath and turn to him. “I know sometimes you date women and it’s just for fun. Clair is…she’s really important to me. Please don’t use her if you don’t see her as more than someone to go out with a couple of times, then move on from.” I hold his gaze, and he seems to get that I’m serious.

“Dude…do you like her? Should I not have asked her out—were you going to make a move?” He asks.

The weight of that question hangs in the air for a moment. My heartbeat is so loud, I’m sure any passerby could hear it. The blood courses through my veins with such fervor, I feel as if my arteries will burst.

Should I have made a move?

I don’t think she’d have been remotely interested in changing the dynamic of our relationship, but I was never brave enough to find out. After tonight, I feel, somehow, like I’ll never get the opportunity to know for sure.

“We’re just friends. We’ve always been just friends,” I reply.

It doesn’t answer his question, but the subtle ambiguity of my response is lost on my friend.

“Okay, I was just making sure. Cause, dude,” he shakes his head. “She’s hot as hell. As long as I’m not stepping on your toes…I’m totally going for it.”

Synopsis:

Getting dumped sucks. Getting dumped by your boyfriend days before your best friend’s wedding? It doesn’t get much worse.

Did I mention that the guy who cut me loose was country music’s number one rising star?

And my client.

I thought I was walking into a proposal. Instead, I crashed right into humiliation—dumped and fired.

The silver lining? In a restaurant, there’s plenty of wine to drown my feelings.

In strolls Tyler Nichols, the restaurant owner. He’s charming, handsome and does a good job of trying to make me feel better.

A really good job. Sharing my heartbreak with a beautiful stranger is the last thing that I expected.
Turns out, Tyler Nichols is my ex’s best friend. And according to the local gossips—mainly my cousin—he’s got a mysterious past.

No worries, I’m the gal with everything going for her—great job, fabulous apartment and a glamorous life half way across the country in sunny Los Angeles—far away from my hometown and my family’s bourbon empire. I’ll be leaving after the weekend wedding festivities.

That is until my best friend, Sage, finds herself in a jam and needs my help before jetting off on her honeymoon.

So, I’m staying in Mayfield a little longer than anticipated. In just a few short weeks, I’ll march my happy ass back to the West Coast, far away from Tyler’s smoldering gaze and his panty-melting smile. And the chemistry between us that burns hotter than a hickory stump.

But the longer I’m in town, the harder it is to stay away from him. And maybe I don’t want to.

BEautifulMarch

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Beautiful March has a gripping, ripped-from-the-headlines prologue, and I couldn’t wait to find out how life turns out for the pair of rescued siblings. The rest of the book did not disappoint.

Christy Pastore wrote a beautiful couple in Tyler and Haven. They meet under the oddest of circumstances — his friend dumps her in Tyler’s restaurant, when both Tyler and Haven were sure a proposal was about to happen. Instead, Tyler and Haven spend the night effortlessly talking and bonding, and it turns out that she’s back in town for the wedding of their best friends. But while the small Kentucky town life suits Tyler fine, Haven has her life in Los Angeles as a celebrity publicist waiting for her. Will a vacation fling be enough for either of them, or are they destined to be heartbroken when the end date on their romance arrives?

I really liked the connection between Tyler and Haven. Their relationship progresses at a nice pace, and they are fun and flirty with one another. But there’s something big from his past that leads to The Conflict, and I thought he really should have given her the chance to explain her side of things before jumping to conclusions. Thankfully, Tyler could see where he was wrong and put in a grand effort to win back his girl.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

I seem to be in the minority when it comes to Method. It was good, but it feel kind of short in my opinion.

I though the premise was fantastic — grieving the suicide of his best friend, Lucas is a method actor who immerses himself so deeply into his new role that he becomes completely unrecognizable to his wife and their marriage suffers as a result. But by the time I got to the epilogue, I had too many unanswered questions about Blake, the resolution between Lucas and Mila left me wanting more between them, and the scene with Blake and his ex from high school had zero impact on the outcome of the story. Did I miss the point in that scene?

Lucas’ grief over Blake’s death is intense. The way it consumes him and destroys their marriage was hard to read at times. He was the most sought-after actor, sitting at the top of the mountain, but terribly empty inside at times as a result. This story is gritty and raw, and despite the sensitive issues of self-worth, sexual harassment and mental health, it’s largely a story about trust and love and how fragile those bonds can sometimes be even in the strongest of marriages.

While Method was a gripping story — and not at all a typical romance — it just left me feeling a bit unsatisfied at the end, which is why I’m shaving off a star.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Stay with me.

Three simple words.

One impossible request.

I’ve loved Allie McCallister for as long as I can remember. Her happiness and well-being mean more to me than anything else, which is why when the opportunity of a lifetime presented itself, I had to take it. Three months was such a short amount of time to be apart to provide the financial stability we needed to start our lives.

It wasn’t supposed to catapult my band to stardom, and it sure as hell wasn’t supposed to set off the chain of events that pushed my relationship with Allie to the brink. Our hearts were shattered, our love tested, and when everything fell apart she begged me to leave.

Eight years ago, tragedy broke us. Now we’re back in the same little town where we once dreamed of building our future.

She’s a divorced, single mom.

I’m a damaged country music star.

There are a hundred reasons for us to stay apart.

But all it takes is one look, one touch, one kiss to know our story isn’t over. Now I have to convince her to let me stay.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Second-chance romance is one of my favorite tropes, and Stay With Me did not disappoint.

We meet Allie and Jackson as teenagers in the prologue. She’s accidentally pregnant, and he’s on the cusp of a major country music career when they are staring at a three-month separation. But things go downhill from there, and ultimately, Allie and Jackson split up. They cross paths again 8 years later, both older, more mature, and hardened by life. She’s been married and is divorced, the mother of an adorable 5 year old. He watched one of his best friends die, and went off the rails a bit himself, retreating from the music industry in an effort to heal. When fate hands them a second chance at their relationship, will Allie push Jackson away again, or this time say “Stay With Me”?

This story was full of heartbreak and pain, but also so full of hope and love. KL Grayson perfectly paints a picture of a couple broken but still desperately in love with one another. There is so much history to build upon with Jackson and Allie, and KLG uses that to her advantage. Especially where their daughter, Anna, is concerned.

Stay With Me is a brilliantly, beautifully written love story about lost love, second chances, healing and hope. I absolutely fell in love with Jackson and Allie, and I know you will too.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt:

“Can we talk?” Mason whispers. “Last time Mom said if I talk too much I would scare away the fish, but I get bored if I can’t talk.”

“What do you want to talk about?”

“Stuff.” He shrugs, his chubby hand reeling his line in. He tosses out another cast. It’s perfect for a little guy and when his lure hits the water he tilts his head and looks at me. “Are you Anna’s daddy?”

Crap. I knew this was coming. I take a deep breath and look for Allie because this isn’t the type of conversation I want to have without her. She’s now on the other side of the pond and when she sees me look at her, she waves.

My God, she’s beautiful.

I wave back.

“Are you?” Mason asks again, this time nudging me in the leg.

Looks like I’m on my own for this one. Honesty is always the best policy, right? Even with kids?

“Yeah, I was her daddy.”

He nods and looks at the water while I look at him. Say something, kid. Anything. When he doesn’t, I nudge him back.

“Do you want to talk about it? Do you have questions?”

Mason shrugs. “Maybe.”

“Okay,” I say laughing. “Well, you think about what you want to ask, and I’ll just sit here and wait.”

A few seconds pass before he looks at me. “Why are you Anna’s daddy, but not mine?”

“Well, because you have a different dad.”

“Richard,” he sighs. At that exact moment his line goes taut. “I got something!”

I set my pole down, wrap my arms around him, resting my hands over his, the way a father would with his son. Except Mason isn’t mine and I need to remember that. “Give it a little tug,” I say, flicking our wrists. The fish splashes out of the water and yanks the pole. “Nice and easy. Just like that. You’re doing great.”

I let him go but stay crouched behind him in case he needs help reeling the fish in, but he doesn’t. Allie hoots and hollers, her pole bobbing on her shoulder as she runs toward us. She makes it to our side just as Mason pulls out the tiniest bass I’ve ever seen and pride surges through me. Luckily the hook comes out with ease.

“You did great, buddy. Hold the fish up just like this”—I show him how to hold the fish and he reaches for it like a champ—“and I’ll take a picture of you and your mom.”

Mason holds up the fish, a proud smile on his handsome face and his mama’s arm around his shoulder. They smile for the camera and then Mason turns to Allie.

“Will you take one of me and Jam?”

Allie pulls out her phone while I kneel down. Mason situates himself between my knees and half sits on my leg with the fish dangling from his fingers.

“Say fish sticks!”

Mason and I laugh and repeat Allie. “Fish sticks!”

“Okay, little dude. Let’s toss him back before he dies.”

“We can’t keep him?” he says, walking toward the water.

“Why would you want to keep him?”

“To eat him. Duh.”

Sunny Shelly Reviews Virginal Headlines, by Candace Knoebel

Virginal Headlines, an all-new standalone Romantic Dramedy by Candace Knoebel is NOW LIVE!

Twenty-three-year-old Primrose Amberly just landed the job of her dreams—with Virago, a leading women’s romance blog. All the knowledge she had about sex, she’d learned by reading their articles. And anyone who knew her would laugh if they found out what her first assignment was. Even she did…before curling into a sopping mess on the floor.
She had one month to turn a player into a stayer. To make New York’s swooniest playboy fall in love with her enough to retire his pick-up lines. With a rap sheet of broken hearts a mile long, Grayson Pierce and his panty melting smile have been featured on the covers of countless magazines. He was also direct competition, an employee of Virago’s rival blog.
A story on the illustrious bachelor was a prize piece. A headline that would shake the social media masses and ignite her name in the blogosphere. But there was one tiny problem—Primrose was a virgin. Had barely even been kissed. Forget thirty days. She couldn’t nail this story in thirty years, especially if she wanted to keep her virtue intact. Could she?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Virginal Headlines was an absolute delight to read. Between my lunch break at work and reading before bed, I devoured this book in a single day.

A chance encounter with New York City’s renowned playboy gives fledgling journalist Prim an inside edge in scoring the blogger position she’s desperate for. All she has to do is turn player Greyson into a stayer in 30 days, write an article about her how-to, and the permanent position is hers. Except the more she gets to know Greyson…. we all know how this tale goes…. the more she realizes that she really, really likes him. And the guilt sets in.

Greyson has a reputation of his own making, but the poor guy is kind of damaged. He’s been used by friends and lovers, and keeps himself rather guarded with Prim at first. But there is something so easy about conversing with her, that he soon finds himself wanting to open up more and more for the first time in as long as he can remember. He feels full again. Like he can laugh and smile again. But will Prim’s betrayal ruin any chance that the couple has at true happiness?

I loved these characters. Even though Prim had a bet of sorts in place with her co-workers when it came to dating Greyson, their connection jumped off the page, and their relationship was easy and didn’t seem forced. The “perfect date” that Greyson puts together for Prim is absolutely swoon-worthy! The guy was like the perfect boyfriend. I really enjoyed that the script was flipped, so to speak, in this story where the heroine is the one with the bet in place, and it’s not the hero who destroys the innocent, trusting woman. Greyson is totally the injured party here, and that made me love him even more.

The secondary cast of characters are crazy and intriguing, and left me wanting more from them, without taking away from Prim and Greyson. I really hope that the epilogue is the set-up for Fin and Poppy’s story, because I need to know what happened there! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

MEET THE GIRLS OF LOVE BETWEEN THE HEADLINES

Welcome, ladies. I was thrilled to learn you were willing to sit with me for an interview… especially considering how busy you all are with your blog Virago. And of course, your love life. Why don’t we start off with you telling us a little about yourselves.

Poppy: *leans forward* Well, obviously I’ll start us off. My name’s Poppy, and I’m a blogger here at Virago. I like long walks down the vodka aisle and men that aren’t afraid of a woman that doesn’t want to commit. *puts her arm around Prim sitting next to her* This is Prim—my best friend and the star of Virginal Headlines. *points to Brinley* On the end is Brinley, our lead editor who is obsessed with a mysterious poet and painfully shy.

Brinley: *shifts uncomfortably*

Poppy: And on the other side of me is our boss Quinn. Feminazi. Man-Hater. An overall—

Quinn: *clears throat* Thanks for that… enticing introduction, Poppy. *looks to interviewer* You’ll have to excuse her. Poppy’s somewhat rambunctious. Often times loud and without a filter. Oh, and—

Poppy: Made of stardust and rainbows. *she winks*

Prim: *giggling* Poppy’s the star of the next book in our series—Deadline To Date—where she’ll—

Quinn: *places hand over Prim’s mouth* Don’t give it all away. Haven’t I taught you anything in the few months you’ve been with our blog? We’re here to promote your story *looks to interviewer* which releases on April 25th. *looks back at Prim* Stop it with that innocent, thoughtful heart of yours. Poppy doesn’t need any more air blown up her ass or her head will explode.

Poppy: *snorts* This coming from the woman who ends up being the star of The Hate Report. A telling of a scorned woman forced to work with an old flame.

Quinn: *turns red*

Poppy: What? Did I give away too much… Quinn?

Quinn: *glares at Poppy and then turns to Brinley* Brinley, why don’t you tell the interviewer about yourself in your own words. Anything to keep this one quiet. Lord knows she loves the sound of her own voice. *hitches a thumb in Poppy’s direction*

Brinley: *eyes wide as everyone turns attention to her* Well, I… I guess I’m just… I’m me.

Prim: *places hand over Brinley’s* She’s sweet, beautiful, and quietly clever. She also has a nose for talent and a beautiful voice.

Brinley: *eyes widen further*

Prim: I hear you sometimes singing to yourself behind the walls of your cubicle. You shouldn’t be afraid of your talent. Embrace yourself. Be proud.

Brinley: I umm… well, I guess you’ll find out more about me when Quote To My Heart releases. I’m the last to go in the series.

Poppy: Because you have horrible luck in the dating department. How many blind dates have you been on in the last month?

Brinley: *squirms* Seven.

Prim: *glares the shut up eyes at Poppy* She just hasn’t met her one yet. That’s all.

Quinn: Working at Virago, it’s hard to find that ‘one’.

Which leads me to my next question—Virago… what does it stand for?

Poppy: *snorts* That’s a loaded question.

Quinn: I think I’ll take this one. Virago’s a word I fell in love with while in college. Historically, it was a title a woman could earn if they were exceptionally heroic, moral, and strong. If they became equal to the ideals of a man. Ideals that women have always carried, but have never been attributed. That’s what our blog stands for. We write about women, by women, for women. We tackle headlines on every front be it political or the typical celebrity gossip. A one-stop shop for the everyday woman.

Poppy: We’re the counterpart to Stud—the leading men’s blog—where Prim’s new beau Grayson Pierce works. *Poppy eyes turn impish* And which is owned by he who shan’t be named. A blog that is a continuous thorn in our sides throughout the series.

Interviewer: He who shan’t be named?

Prim: Harrison Cunningham. He owns Stud and well… he used to…

Quinn: Oh, for heaven’s sake. Just say it—he and I used to be a thing back in college. But all of that will be tackled in The Hate Report. Lord, grant me enough whiskey to get through the release of that book. All my secrets aired like dirty laundry.

Poppy: *rubs hands together* Bring it on.

So, Love Between The Headlines… I’m sensing this a theme. Throughout these four stories, are we to learn of what goes on behind the scenes in the blogging world?

Prim: In a nutshell, yes. Love is hard to find in the business we’re in. We’re constantly having to choose between love and our careers while trying to find a healthy balance for both. Being a journalist… a blogger… it isn’t always easy. Especially when the subject is about someone you care about.

Poppy: *leans back* Don’t include me in that. I have a healthy balance. It’s called: No Strings Attached.

Quinn: Yes. And we see how well you’ve done with that logic. Especially considering your reaction whenever Finley comes around.

Interviewer: Finley?

Prim: He’s Grayson’s best friend and, well, a complication in Poppy’s love life.

Poppy: *scowls* More like a pit stain.

Brinley: Honestly, I think she’s in love with him.

Poppy: *glares down Brinley*

Brinley: *curls into herself*

Poppy: I’m not in love with him. I don’t even know what love is. But he, however, is in love with me. He made that very clear. Well, until he… *looks away, sad*

Quinn: Next question.

Well, I can most definitely sense some tension when the word love is brought up. To wrap this up, can you tell the readers what they’re getting into? Are these standalones? Will we see all of you in every book? Are there any HEAs? Steam? Cliffhangers?

Quinn: Wow with the firing off there, paparazzi. You know some of those cleverly inserted questions we can’t answer. We can’t give away the endings. Telling you if there’s an HEA or not is like reading the last page before starting the book.

Prim: But, to give you some insight, there are definite HEAs. And, no, there are no cliffhangers.

Poppy: But there is plenty of steam. I’d brag that you’d find it all in my story, but I’m feeling generous today. The steam alert is strong within this group of females. We know what we want, and we take it. And the men… *licks lips*

Prim: *fans herself*

Brinley: You’ll see each of us throughout the series. Some of our story will carry on through everyone’s book. They can each be read as a standalone, but it’s best to read in order.

Poppy: Yeah. How else will you keep consecutive order of every one of Brinley’s failed dates?

Prim: *puts arm around Brinley’s shoulder* Even the clouds have to give way to the sun at some point. You’re not a lost cause. Poppy’s just jealous that you have the emotional capability to put yourself out there.

Poppy: *snorts*

Quinn: And with that, I’ll say I think that about wraps it us for us, ladies. There’s still work to be done. Those posts aren’t going to write themselves. And, Prim, I need you in my office after this.

Poppy: Ooooh. Someone’s in trouble.

Quinn: *shoots a look to Poppy* I wasn’t finished. I need to see you after her. Brinley, try to keep the crying to a minimum today.

Okay then, well, thank you again for taking this time with me. I can’t wait to get my hands on your stories. I’m sure my readers will feel the same.

Quinn: April 25th. Virginal Headlines. Steamy. Angsty. Funny. Be sure to grab your copy and find your inner Virago.

Prim: Thank you so much for taking the time to read this interview. And, if you do pick up Virginal Headlines, I want to thank you for that as well. Without you, my story would remain letters pressed within pages, never given the chance to breathe life.

Poppy: I’m just going to part by saying—you’re welcome for the shit show you just witnessed. Read our books to see more. And if you really want a good laugh, keep your eyes peeled for the release announcement of Deadline To Date coming this summer featuring none other than moi. Check out the author behind our stories’ Facebook page for more information.

Quinn: Or sign up to her newsletter. You’re more likely to see her announcements in your inbox than relying on Facebook nowadays.

Brinley: *gets up and leaves before anyone asks her anything else*

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Endless Stars

I fell hard for Izzy and Mack. This was a fantastic second-chance romance, full of emotions, regret, forgiveness, heartbreak, hardship and longing. These two characters were amazing together. Mack was just kind of going through the motions of life until the day that Izzy reappeared in his life.

Mack is a small-town detective, but he’s carrying some deep emotional scars. He’s always felt like he wasn’t good enough, deserving enough. Even though he was fighting crime in their small town, he came from crime and always felt like it held him back. No matter how his little bird, Izzy, tried to convince him that he was a dragon and could slay anything.

These characters were just amazing. I know I said that already, but I fell for Izzy and Mack, hard. Their reunion isn’t easy — she’s a single mom and worries how the mistakes of their past will affect her children. But her boys! How could you not fall in love with Dillon and Benjamin? Mack absolutely melts in their presence, and once he meets those sweet kids, there’s no way he is going to let the three of them go.

I have not read the other books in this Confessions series. The characters are all friends so there is crossover, but I didn’t feel like I was missing out on any background. Although, now I’m interested to read about Jace and Ian, so I definitely want to check them out!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Blog Tour: Sunny Shelly Reviews Lead The Way, by Brittany Carter

Lead The Way
Brittany Carter
Published by: Swoon Romance
Publication date: April 22nd 2019
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Fresh off the high of college graduation, Melody James is back in her Podunk town. She needs a job, but first, she’ll spend a lazy summer with no agenda at all.

But life’s got other plans for Melody, ones she’d sooner ignore. When the next-door neighbor passes away, his son returns home to take care of his affairs. Thane Cohen hasn’t been home in ten years. The last time he was, someone accused him of murdering Melody’s parents. Now, after major efforts to recover his self-worth and start a construction company, Thane wonders if enough time has passed for him to clear his once good name.

At the time of the murders, Melody was the only person who didn’t believe Thane was responsible. But how could she even suggest otherwise when just about everyone in town was convinced of Thane’s guilt? Her brothers would never allow it. With nothing to lose before, Thane packed up and left, leaving the town and Melody behind. Now that he’s back, rekindling an old flame in Melody and proving his innocence are critical.

When several car windshields get broken and fires start unexpectedly, the world inside their little town is tossed upside down. With Melody’s brother against her, and Thane fighting every attempt she makes at breaking down his walls, Melody’s push for answers leads her to a frightening conclusion. Thane may actually know more about her parents’ death than she was lead to believe. Can she trust him, or has everyone else been right about him all along? Only time will tell if she can let love lead the way.

*Author previously wrote under the name, Alla Kar

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

When the world is against them, will love lead the way for Melody and Thane?

This was a really enjoyable second-chance romance with a twist of suspense. Thane has tried so hard to put his past behind him, and Melody can’t seem to escape hers. Their lives are forever connected, but not necessarily in a good way.

He has built some pretty big walls around his heart, and rightfully so. There’s an nice push/pull between the characters as Melody tries to get past his boundaries and prove to Thane that he’s more than what the town thinks of him. (BTW, I love that name!)

The story flows nicely, and the characters are well-rounded. The subplots didn’t take away from the main story between Thane and Melody, nor did I find that the mystery behind her parents’ murders overshadowed the budding romance.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
