Out of the Blue is a sweet second-chance novella, a story easily read in a single sitting.

Years ago, Nick left Kady behind for a job and never looked back. The heartbreak nearly destroyed her. Now, after nearly being killed, Nick realizes that what he wants and needs in his life is Kady, and is back home in their small Texas town and ready to grovel for forgiveness.

I enjoyed this sweet story. Kady really makes Nick work for it, and holds out on reconciling until the end. This is an enjoyable feel-good story perfect for reading during a lazy day at the pool.

Every time I think Emma Hart can’t possibly have a book funnier than her last, she proves me wrong! I went into Accidental Girlfriend a bit hesitantly, because I thought that another one of EH’s fake-relationship books, Four Day Fling, was damn perfect. How could this one possibly compare?

Well, it didn’t compare. The stories may be in the same general trope, but Accidental Girlfriend was pretty damn perfect itself. Lauren and Mason were lovable, and I laughed so hard out loud so many times reading the banter between these two!

You know the story: boy and girl fake date and catch feelings for one another. But neither wants a relationship, so they deny, deny, deny until one of them breaks. Sure, that sums up Lauren and Mason’s fake relationship, but this book is so worth reading for the nuances between them. And Mason’s crazy grandpa and Aunt Pru will definitely make it worth your while!

“I’ve seen you eat nothing but junk. Are you one of those irritating people who can eat what they want and put on no weight?”

“Okay, first.” I held up one finger. “You look like you could walk into the cast of the Avengers, so don’t come at me with that. Also, I run. Every day. And I don’t always eat junk.”

“You run?” His eyebrows shot up.

“I don’t know if I should be insulted or not.”

“No, I just—you don’t look like a runner.”

“And you don’t look like Chris Hemsworth, but here you are on my sofa looking like a dark-haired Norse god,” I shot back. “What’s your point?”

He held up his hands, fighting another laugh, one that made his eyes shine. “Hey, I have a physical job. I rarely get to the gym, but I’m always moving.”

“Have you ever worked behind a bar? I’m not exactly running a call center back there. It never stops sometimes.”

“Do I look like I mix cocktails?”

Doing what he’d done just minutes before, I took a long, hard look at him, from head to toe.

It was a mistake.

If I were a sloth, I wouldn’t just climb him like a tree; I’d hang off him for a nap, too.

Lord, he was hot.

Focus, Lauren.

“No,” I said. “You look like the lone wolf who waits for the cocktail-drinking girls to accidentally spill their drinks on your shoes.” I glanced at the time. “Speaking of, I have to go and make those cocktails.”

Mason grinned. “You want me to come and get hit on by drunk girls?”

“As someone who has no say in your life whatsoever, I don’t care what you do.” I stood up and looked at him over my shoulder. “As your fake girlfriend, I’m a bit of a tiger, so I wouldn’t.”

“I know.” He snorted, following me to the front door with his laptop tucked under his arm. “I’ve seen you play the possessive girlfriend. If this weren’t all fake, I would have been a little turned on.”

I locked the front door and tossed my hair over my shoulder. “Please. You were totally turned on.”

He said nothing as we headed for the stairs.

“You can say something. That was a joke.” I glanced at him, heat rushing to my cheeks.

His lips pulled into a smirk, eyes flashing. “I reserve the right to not respond.”

Instinctively, he dropped the towel, and his hands closed around her upper arms. “I’ve got you.”

No, he didn’t. She’d been managing on her own for years, and wasn’t about to start depending on a guy who’d left her all alone to deal with the consequences of their brief…thing. She tried to take a step back, but her double-crossing hands didn’t leave his shoulders. Instead, they slid down and molded to his chest.

“Sorry, I…” she stuttered.

“I’m not.” His hands closed over hers, and his thumbs caressed back and forth over the tops of her fingers.

An electric current shot up her arms, down her spine, and tingled all the way to her curling toes.

“I should be sorry.” Dylan’s soft breaths brushed over her cheeks. “Joe’s has a lot at stake, and your plumbing has been allowed to deteriorate due to lack of use.”

He had no idea.

His gaze smoothed over her burning cheeks. “That’s a problem I’d like to remedy for you.” A dimple appeared as one corner of his mouth lifted into a hint of a smile. “I’d benefit from it, too.” The dimple deepened.

Time slowed.

A bone-deep ache of desire stirred in her chest. Before she could stop herself, she went up on her tiptoes and pressed her lips to his.

“Be ready by six,” Kyle says as he drops me off.

“Ready for what?” I ask, hand on the door handle ready to hop out of his SUV.

“Dinner.”

“Whoa.” I drop my hand from the door and turn to him. “Like you want me to have dinner on the table by six? That’s really sexist, Kyle. Just because you put an imaginary ring on it and put a bun in my oven doesn’t mean I’m going to quit my job and spend my days cleaning and putting dinner on the table every night at six like a 1950s housewife, just so you know. And I’m not ironing your shirts. I might make cookies every once in a while, though. If I stay. Which is still an if.”

“Are you done?”

“Yes.”

“Mrs Lascola comes daily Monday through Friday. She does the cleaning, shopping and laundry. My dry-cleaning is delivered to the concierge desk, from where she retrieves it and places it in my closet. She brings the mail from the lobby and leaves it on the desk in my study. She also prepares meals and leaves them in the fridge to be heated.”

Oh.

“So no,” Kyle continues, “I’m not expecting you to be my 1950s housewife, because Mrs Lascola is my 1950s housewife, minus your surly attitude problem. You, Daisy, are my twenty-first-century bride-to-be. What I expect from you is that you’re doing everything you need to do to take care of the baby you’re carrying. Besides that, I expect you to do whatever it is that you find personally fulfilling. I don’t give a fuck if it’s dusting, or knitting, or photography, or real estate, or running a goddamned empire. Are we clear?”

“Fine, yes.” I huff. “Good Lord, you’re dramatic.”

He rolls his eyes at me. “Great. Be ready at six, because I’m taking you out to dinner,” he says, stressing the word out. He could have done that to start with. “On a date,” he adds.
