Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Wrecked By Her was a solid debut from Kristie Leigh. Eight years after leaving high school boyfriend Hunter without a goodbye to head to college, Jules is back home to see her sick mother.

She’s now the mother of a toddler, and while she and Hunter have occasionally kept in touch, he hasn’t seen her since she left him. He’s always held out hope that they’d reunite some day, as does her mother.

But when her mom dies, Jules decides it’s too hard being home and plans to return to California. She and Hunter hadn’t quite rekindled their relationship, but it’s clear that they both still care deeply. So he’s devastated when she once again runs away.

Like I said, this is a solid offering but I never quite got WHY Jules left Hunter behind. Was she holding him back? Why did she never want to come back home? I feel like knowing those answers would have made it a 5-star read. Maybe that will be addressed in the conclusion to this duet!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

My favorite books to read are anything taboo and super sick

give it a shot one day.
I live in South Florida with my high school sweetheart and

I grew up in Burlington, ON, Canada but made the move to

either way, I know it will be a fun new adventure, and I’m super excited about

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Coming Up Roses, by Staci Hart

Everyone hates part of their job, and I hate Luke Bennet.

Coming Up Roses, an all-new must read enemies to lovers romantic comedy from Staci Hart is available now!

CUR-ebook

Everyone hates parts of their job.

Maybe it’s the paperwork. Maybe it’s the day-to-day grind. Maybe it’s that client who never knows what they want, or the guy who always cooks fish in the microwave.

But not me. I love every corner of the Longbourne Flower Shop, every flower, every petal, every stem. I love the greenhouse, and I love Mrs. Bennet, my boss. I love creating, and I love being a florist. I don’t hate anything at all.

Except for Luke Bennet.

The Bennet brothers have come home to help their mom save the flower shop, and Luke is at the helm. His smile tells a tale of lust, loose and easy. He moves with the grace of a predator, feral and wild. A thing unbridled, without rules or constraint.

When he comes home to save Longbourne, I almost can’t be mad at him.

Almost.

He doesn’t remember that night I’ll never forget. That kiss, touched with whiskey and fire. It branded me like a red-hot iron. But it meant nothing to him.

Everyone hates part of their job, and I hate Luke Bennet.

Because if I don’t, I’ll fall in love with him.

Excerpt:

I wanted to kiss Tess Monroe.

I’d wanted to kiss her the second she walked into the shop a couple days ago, wearing overalls and a Cure T-shirt. I’d wanted to kiss her as I watched her scrub the wall with her little face wrinkled up in concentration. I’d wanted to kiss her when she fell off the ladder and into my arms. And all day today while we painted the shop, I only thought about one thing.

I wanted to kiss her. And I was accustomed to getting what I wanted.

“Did you hear me?” Kash asked impatiently.

“Hmm?”

He rolled his eyes, his long body stretched out on the bottom bunk in our old room. “Man, what’s with you?”

“I’ve been scrubbing and painting the shop for two days. I’m tired.”

“Right,” he said, “and the redhead in the overall shorts has nothing to do with it.”

I leaned back in the wooden desk chair I’d taken up residence in, the hinge squeaking. “As if Tess Monroe would willingly give me the time of day.”

He shrugged. “Seems to me like she’s given you the time every hour, on the hour, for two days. What’s with her? She was different today.”

It was true. This morning, she’d walked into the shop, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to work with a smile on her face. She’d only insulted me seven times, and one of those was a backhanded compliment. My stats were down: the day before, it’d been twenty-three insults and a jab with a broom handle that I couldn’t be sure was accidental.

Not that I was counting.

“I dunno what’s gotten into her, but I’m not looking a gift horse in the mouth. I’m just taking the boon and moving on.”

“Man, she looked so cute with that bandana in her hair and paint on her nose. And her ass in those overalls…” He whistled up at my old bunk.

I fought the urge to chuck my Batman paperweight at him.

“So are you going after her or what?” Kash asked, smirking.

“I just got her to quit treating me like a dog. Pretty sure anything more is off the table.”

“Maybe I’ll go after her then. Think I’ve got a shot?”

I snorted to cover my immediate fury at the thought. “She’s a girl with standards, Kash. If I don’t have a shot, you’ve got none in hell.”

“Maybe she just needs somebody older. More mature.”

“We were born in the same year, asshole.”

“I’m just saying. Maybe she’s looking for stability. Everybody knows you’re about as stable as uranium.”

“And you’re running your mouth like you want a foot in Uranus.”

Kash laughed. “I’d love to see you try.”

I eyed him. “You don’t actually like her, do you?”

“Nah,” he said, smiling. “I just want you to admit you do.”

A sigh of concession blew out of me, the pause filled with my thoughts. “We almost kissed yesterday,” I admitted.

Kash sat up so fast, he thunked his head on the bottom bunk. “Goddammit—” He rubbed at his forehead “—Warn a guy before you go saying things like, I almost kissed Tess.

I laughed openly at his misfortune, hoping it left a mark. “She fell off a ladder in storage, and I caught her. Topless.”

His eyes bulged, hand still pressed to his forehead. “Tess was topless in storage?”

“No, I was.”

He rolled his eyes, chucking a pillow at me. I caught it midair and chucked it right back at him.

“I’m surprised she didn’t deck you,” he said, fluffing the pillow before leaning back again.

“Me too, if I’m being honest. She hates me. Hated me. Maybe still hates me a little.”

“What’d you do to her?” he asked. At this point, the question was rhetorical—neither of us knew, no matter how many times we’d asked.

“Who knows? But I think the last couple of days have helped my case. All I had to do was show up and not fuck up.”

“Don’t worry. There’s still time,” he reassured me.

“Trust me, I’m aware. I’ve been working on the installation for her in the back, and I’m both convinced I’m going to disappoint her and that I’ll knock her socks off.”

“Or her bra. Think you can knock that off?”

“If she were anybody else, I’d guarantee it. But Tess?” I made a resigned noise.77

He watched me for a second in that way he had about him, the quiet assessment that ran under his outward charm. It was a mask— that much I knew for a fact—armor to protect his soft spots. Everyone thought he was nothing but a girl-crazy flirt, just like me. But that was just how we liked it. Let them think we were empty.

There was comfort in being underestimated. We were constantly set to impress everyone.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Tess and Luke will make you fall in love with enemies-to-lovers romcoms! She is so full of venom when it comes to Luke, all because he forgot about the kiss they shared a decade ago. Luke still doesn’t know why Tess openly despised him, but getting her to give him a shot becomes a second job to him when Luke comes home to help save his family’s dying florist shop.

Working together forces Tess to let down her walls when it comes to Luke, and she sees him as more than the flighty adventurer he is. She loves her routines and control, he is much more a free spirit. They agree to a no-strings fling, but in the moments in between, Tess ends up falling head over heels in love with the guy who didn’t remember the kiss she will never forget.

Tess and Luke are so sweet together. They are funny, sweet, romantic, and all the things that you want in a boom couple. She ends up grounding him in ways he never knew he needed, and he teaches her how to let things go and let loose in ways she never wanted. They are a perfect match, even if his ex-wife stirs up some drama!

Another fantastic story from Staci Hart!! I hope that this is the start to a new series because I loved the Bennett family and definitely want to spend more time with them, especially Jett! I’m so intrigued by him! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

About Staci

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey.

From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

!!Resist cover

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Driven series comes a powerful romance about reaching great heights through low depths.

Who says you have to play by the rules to get what you want?

Agreeing to meet Ryker Lockhart is my first mistake. Rich, handsome, and more than intriguing, he thinks blackmail will bend me to his will.

But he’s wrong.

I may have done a few things that weren’t exactly legal, but I have my own reasons for that. The last thing I’m going to do is let some high-powered divorce attorney come into my life, have my body, and rule my heart. Not to mention ruin everything that I have carefully built in just a short amount of time.

But as much as I try to resist him, and against my better judgment, there is something about him that has me agreeing to his proposal.

I’m putting everything on the line for him. I just hope I won’t lose everything when this is all over.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Just try to resist this enemies to lovers story, I dare you! Ryker and Vaughan are two powerhouses, and together they are explosive!

He’s a man of many secrets. She’s a desperate woman needing to fiercely protect something. There is an intense push and pull between them as they fight their feelings (and each other).

This book is darker than the other Kristy Bromberg books I’ve read, and I was completely captivated. Then I got to that cliffhanger ending and I needed to throw my kindle! Major book hangover and I’m in need of the conclusion!!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Teaser-04-notyoursfix-availnow

Excerpt:

“It won’t be as easy as you think to walk away from the high life. Money is a powerful thing. Once you have it, it’s hard as hell to live without, Vaughn.”

I start to protest but then realize he doesn’t get it. He knows how much he is paying me. He sees the expensive clothes and jewelry I have on but has no clue they are from thrift stores and pawnshops.

“I’ll walk away.”

The chuckle he emits scrapes over my nerves and irritates them. “No, you won’t. You’re addicted to the power of it. Of knowing you can bring a man to his knees. Of the ability to use your body to get exactly what you want.”

“You don’t know a thing about me.”

But the ghost of a smirk that plays at the corner of his mouth makes me fear he just might. “You don’t have to be embarrassed by it, Vaughn. I get off on the same type of power when I’m in court. It’s a high. Something once you have a taste of, you only seem to want more of.”

“Don’t paint your experience on my canvas,” I murmur.

“Here we are,” he says, pulling my attention to our surroundings instead of to him. We’re standing outside the entrance to The Club, and every part of me deflates a little at the thought of having to go back inside with him.

Of having to play more of the part, when this, me getting to be a little more of myself, has been so unexpected and nice.

“Here we are,” I repeat.

We stare at each other, the shadows of the night playing over his face and reminding me I barely know this man and that I do, in fact, want to know him more.

“I’d be more than happy to drive you home—”

“But—”

He puts a finger to my lips. “But that’s too personal.” He steps into me so that we’re both in the shadows now on the broad sidewalk.

“It’s too personal,” I agree as I draw in the scent of him, the feel of his palms as they run up and down my arms. And for the briefest of moments I forget what I’m doing here and that he’s paid me for it because all I can think about is him kissing me. All I want is him to.

“Why don’t we go—”

His lips close ever so slowly over mine so that I have no choice but to sink into the kiss. A kiss that’s soft and tender when every other one we’ve shared thus far has been raging with a lascivious desire.

But not this one.

My body heats up nerve by nerve. Muscle by muscle. Sensation by sensation.

Until he leans back so his forehead rests against mine and we breathe in the same air.

“Good night, Vaughn.”

What?

My head snaps up as Ryker takes a step back, regret owning every part of his expression, including the desire warring in his eyes.

“I don’t understand.” Flummoxed, I stand where I am and just watch him as he takes another step back and points to the taxi pulled up to the curb at my back.

“Your cab is here.” His smile is pained.

“But . . .”

He lifts a hand in silent goodbye before he turns the corner, leaving me staring after him as the taxi driver ushers me into the cab.

Tears sting my eyes as he pulls away from the curb.

Ryker just gave me exactly what I asked for—no sex—and yet every part of me is confused by it.

Because I want him.

And now I’m not exactly sure what I’m supposed to do about it.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: The Guy On The Right, by Kate Stewart

We’re celebrating the release of The Guy on the Right by Kate Stewart! Fall in love with Theo and Laney today!

Contemporary Romance/Romantic Dramedy

Paperback: https://amzn.to/2SFt3dc

Blurb:

Strike One-My mother named me Theodore after her favorite chipmunk.

Not cool, Mom.

I‘ve spent most of my life answering to Teddy, because I couldn’t make Theo work.

Except for here. College. The place where all bets are off, and I’ve managed to redeem myself.

There’s only one problem, my new roommate, Troy, is football royalty and looks like he stepped off the set of an Abercrombie shoot.

Doesn’t matter, I cook a mean breakfast for his panty parade, and we get along well.

And anyway, this year I got the girl. And she’s perfect.

That’s right. Theodore Houseman, former band geek, now marching band rock star has finally landed the girl of his dreams.

Everything is perfect.

That is, until Troy takes a good look at her.

I’m not going down without a fight. As a matter of fact, I’m not going down at all. As glorious as these days may be for my all-star roommate, Laney is my end game.

I may not know much about play strategy, but I’ve been the good guy my whole life. I’ve been listening and I know exactly what women want. Framed in a picture standing next to me, Troy may seem like Mr. Perfect, but he’s underestimating the guy on the right.

Spoiler alert: In this story, the underdog is going to win.

I love it when the underdog wins! Theo may be a band geek, but he’s all kinds of sexy in The Guy On The Right. He’s nursing a broken heart when he first meets Laney, and is on a dating sabbatical. They literally meet as she’s dumping her boyfriend over the phone, and she wants nothing to do with guys any more. When the universe keeps putting Laney and Theo into one another’s paths, they realize that they are meant to be friends.

This relationship starts out on the best friendship. I loved the joking nature between the two of them, especially their Instagram antics. And when they do realize that they have feelings for one another, it’s incredibly sweet and a SLOW BURN before they get together.

But Laney and Theo are each battling some demons, and there comes a point in their relationship where those demons tear them apart. Is Theo willing to trust that to someone he is more than just the guy on the right? Is free-spirited, gypsy hearted Laney willing to risk her heart and stay in one place?

This was a wonderful story full of all the feels I’ve come to expect from a Kate Stewart book. Go out and live your best life like Theo and Laney! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Simply Irresistible, by Jennifer L. Allen

Title: Simply Irresistible
Author: Jennifer L. Allen

AMAZON

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Melanie: I can’t even believe I didn’t make eye contact with the guy on the elevator. I’d seen him before in my office building and he was totally awesome to look at. From what I could tell by the way his suit clung to him, he had a hot bod, too. Another missed opportunity! I’m so lame. Next time, I’ll see if he wants to do lunch. I wonder if he listens to 80s music when he works out, because he has got to work out.

Tyler: Dude, that chick in the elevator was mad fine. My sister may think I’m not capable of keeping a relationship going, but she bugg’n. I’m gonna show the girl with the big green eyes that I’m all that and a bag of chips. Next time I see her, I’m gonna hit her up for sure. I wonder how she feels about watching 90s TV reruns on Friday nights? TGIF!

Melanie and Tyler may be decades apart, but working for the same publishing company brings the irresistible pair together. The ambitious duo is filled with dreams that don’t include being executive assistants for the rest of their lives. Somewhere between the laughter and arguing over which decade brought the better entertainment and fads, they fall in love.

Tension mounts as the pressure and excitement of new opportunities increases and their dreams get closer to becoming a reality … but what happens when one of their dreams doesn’t come true?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Sweet Stars

The only other book I’ve previously read by Jennifer L. Allen was Say Something — it was dark, intense, emotional and gritty. On the flip side, Simply Irresistible is simply sweet, funny, lighthearted. Melanie and Tyler are all kinds of flirty fun, and I loved all the ’80s and ’90s references sprinkled throughout this book. They start off with a genuine friendship and build their relationship from there. They are a great support for one another throughout the story, and even though they hit a few road blocks, Tyler and Melanie find a HEA that is just as sweet as the title of this book.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: More Than Just A Name by Lynn Jaxon

Title: More Than Just a Name
Author: Lynn Jaxon
Series: All for You
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Meredith~

I wasted eight years of my life on a marriage that was doomed from the start. My ex-husband only married me for my family name and money. Now that the divorce is final, I’m ready to move on focusing on providing a happy life for our son. When my friends insisted they take me out to celebrate my new found freedom, I reluctantly agreed.

I should have asked where we were going. I never imagined we’d end up in a male strip club. I was ready to leave before we walked through the doors. That is until I locked eyes with a masked dancer. His green eyes bored into me, owning me with just one look. Then when our hands touched, he made me feel things I’d never felt, and want things I’d never dared to dream.

Just when my dream seemed like it was coming true, my worst nightmare became my reality. My divorce was just a useless piece of paper, and I’m afraid that not even love will be able to save me.

Nash~

I can’t believe I’m doing this. Never did I ever think that this would be me. I’m an elementary school assistant principal, not a male dancer. I have to keep reminding myself that I’m doing this for my brother. I’m helping him keep his job.

That’s the only thing that’s getting me through this night. That is until I lock eyes with the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. Long blonde hair, expressive blue eyes, and a body that would bring any man to his knees. Going into it I never thought this night would change my life and hers so profoundly.

I have my work cut out for me. There is more than just our love at stake. I’ll put everything on the line to save her, and convince her that she’s more than just a name.

The day I found out I was pregnant should have been one of the happiest days of my life…until I went to surprise Frankie at work and found him banging his secretary on his desk. I should’ve asked for a divorce right then and there.

“Mrs. Find, you can’t go in there right now!” exclaims one of Frankie’s partners.

“It’s okay, Roscoe. He’ll forgive me once he finds out why I’m here.”

Smile on my face, I burst through the door…almost falling to my knees. Frankie has his secretary bent over his desk, pounding into her from behind. I hear him gasp as I spin and slam the door, running back down the hall and pushing the elevator button, thankful when the doors open.

I hear Frankie running down the hall toward me, still buckling his pants. “Baby, wait! I can explain!”

I stop the elevator doors just before they close. “I don’t want to hear a thing you have to say. Don’t come home tonight. I don’t want to see your cheating face.” With that, the doors slide shut.

For months afterward, Frankie put on quite a show. He acted like he was ecstatic about being a father, doing everything in his power to convince me he would never cheat on me again. Thinking of our unborn child, I gave him another chance.

He was only able to keep it in his pants for a few months. The next time I found out about him cheating, I was seven months pregnant. Of course, he had me believing it was my fault because I was fat.

I’m determined to stick to my guns this time. There is no way I’ll let him weasel his way out of this divorce. No matter what, I’m going to stand strong for Gage.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

More Than Just A Name is a saccharine-sweet instalove story between a single mom and the assistant principal at her young son’s school. Of course, Meredith and Nash don’t KNOW that they have that connection when they first meet while he’s dancing at a male revue club. Just filling in for his sick brother, natch. And she’s celebrating her divorce. There’s an instant connection just between their eyes (he’s wearing a mask!) and numbers are exchanged. Casino heiress Meredith is hesitant to do anything however, as she’s just coming off of a bad marriage where she was pretty much used for her family’s status and wealth.

Okay. I was kind of wary about that set-up, but I liked the characters enough to get over my thoughts of “What is she thinking?” Nash was a sweetheart, and really would do anything for Meredith and Gage. Like keep her dirtbag ex-husband far, far away from them. As sweet as their romance is (not clean, though! There are some sexy times!), there is also a bunch of drama thanks to her ex, and Nash gets to play White Knight in a spectacular way. And prove to Meredith that she’s more than just her well-known last name.

If you want an easy poolside read, definitely check this out. I read it in an afternoon, around parenting duties. It’s a light and easy read, not too deep, with just the right amount of drama. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

In One Short Summer, everything changes for roommates Gabe and Monica! This book was super sweet and easy to read. There’s not a lot of drama, but a ton of chemistry, attraction and I-don’t-want-to-get-involved in this story!

I really liked how Gabe pushed Monica to get out of her funk. She’d felt like she’d lost everything important in her life after a career-ending accident, but as the summer goes on, she learns that she’s gained so much more. These two are absolutely adorable together!

This book is a standalone in Jasmin Miller’s Brooksville series, but Gabe and Monica are characters who previously appeared in #1, the equally-adorable Baking With A Rock Star. (He is Hudson’s brother, and she is Charlie’s best friend.) I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt
Pulling out the barstool beside her, I sit down, wanting to
be on her eye level. It takes me bumping my knees into hers for her to look at
me, but at least she finally does. “Hey! Remember it’s me you’re talking to.
We’ve been sharing a house for most of the last year. That’s pretty much as
close as anyone has ever been to me, not that I would do this for just anyone.
You’re a very sweet, kind, caring, and talented person. You need to get it in
your pretty head that you don’t owe me a thing. I’d do it all over again in a
heartbeat.”
My words don’t exactly trigger the response I intended as I
watch the pink tinge travel up Monica’s neck and cheeks before she covers her
face with her hands. “Oh gosh. Stop it already. I can’t remember the last time
I blushed. How embarrassing.”
Flabbergasted.
I’m absolutely stunned she’s reacting this way.
It’s also interesting she can still surprise me after we’ve
known each other all this time.

them if they are going to find their happily ever after.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Until December is the first ARR book I’ve read, so it’s also the first in her Until Her/Until Him series that I’ve read. December and Gareth are all kinds of swoony. He’s the perfect alpha male, a strong believer in loyalty and family. Their story is a slow burn that will have you on the edge of your seat waiting for the moment that they give in to their attraction.

Plus, who wouldn’t fall for a hot, single dad?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Perky, by Julia Kent

Title: Perky
Author: Julia Kent
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: July 30, 2019

Blurb
AN ALL-NEW STANDALONE FROM NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR JULIA KENT
One hundred years ago when I was young and impulsive (okay, it was five,
alright? Five years ago…) I let my boyfriend take, let’s just say…
compromising pictures of me.
(Shut up. It made sense at the time).
Surprise! The sleazy back-stabbing jerk posted them on a website and,
well, you can guess what happened. That’s right.
I’m a meme. A really gross one.
You’ve seen the pictures. And if you haven’t – don’t ask. And don’t look!
As face recognition software online improves, I get tagged on social
media whenever anyone shares my pictures. You try getting a thousand
notifications a day, all of them pictures of your tatas.
So. I’m done.
It’s time for revenge. Let him see how it feels! But how do you get
embarrassingly intimate pictures of your jerkface ex who double-crossed you
five years ago?
Especially when he’s a member of the U.S.House of Representatives now?
Getting sweet between the sheets with a congressman is pretty much every
political roadie’s dream, right? I’m one in a crowd.
Except to this day, he swears he didn’t do it. Pursued me for months
after I dumped him five years ago. Begged me to take him back.
And I almost did it. Almost. I was weak and stupid and in love a hundred
years ago.
Okay. Fine. Five.
But I still have the upper hand. Second chance romance has all the
emotional feels, doesn’t it?
I can’t wait to punch him in the feels.
All I need to do is sleep with him once, take some hot-and-sweaty pics of
him in… delicate positions, and bring him down. That’s it. Nothing more.
Pictures first. Revenge after. And then I win.
At least, that’s how it was supposed to happen. But then I did something
worse than sexting.
I fell in love with him. Again.

PAPERBACK

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

A second-chance romance about revenge sex? Brilliant! I was looking forward to Perky and Parker’s story after getting that tease at the end of Fluffy, and it did not disappoint!

It’s been five years since Perky’s ex posted a sexy pic of her that was never meant to see the light of day. It broke her heart, left her humiliated and betrayed and she’s never gotten past it. So imagine her surprise when one of the groomsmen in her pal Mallory’s wedding, Skip, turns out to be her ex-boyfriend!

Parker is insistent that he was not responsible. While Perky goes back and forth with whether or not to believe him, she ultimately decides that a revenge sex video is just the thing to help her feel better. But when she realizes that she’s still in love with Parker, will Perky call off her plan before it’s too late?

The culprit behind the video was predictable, but nevertheless it was a helluva funny ride. Parker never gave up when it came to getting Persophene to believe him, and there’s a lovely payoff for this couple. And…. The antics amongst this trio of friends is hysterical. I loved seeing more of Mallory and Will and hope that Fiona’s book is just as good…. but I’m sure it will be!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Falter, by Carrie Aarons

falterad2.jpg

FALTER (Nash Brothers, Book 4)

Ryan Shea has sworn off men.

After her last relationship imploded in front of her eyes, she decides to take a break from swimming in the dating pool … possibly forever. The brilliant computer whiz loses her brain when it comes to love, and jumping feet first burns her every time.

Without a home, or much of a clue where life is headed, taking a trip back to the small town of Fawn Hill to stay with her best friend seems like the only option.

Except it puts Ryan directly in the path of the one man she can’t fall for. Fletcher Nash reminds her too much of the dark past she’s always run from; his demons are the things of her nightmares. And it’s no help that, when he looks at her, she feels as if Fletcher is the one person who truly understands.

Fletcher Nash vowed not to fall in lust.

Five years of sobriety, and he hasn’t broken the chastity promise yet. Not that it had to keep for this long … he’s well over the normal year addicts are told not to get involved.

But, aside from a busy schedule and trying to chase his dream of becoming a full-time artist, he has no intentions of committing to a woman until she is the one.

Why is it, then, that sassy, city girl Ryan Shea comes dangerously close to resembling the exact woman he could break that promise for? Like sand through his fingers, there is no way she’ll stay put … but his heart just won’t listen.

They pledged not to love anyone until it was the real thing.
So what happens when two people terrified of falling head-over-heels, actually do?

Falter is available for a special release day price of $2.99! The book will increase to $3.99 the day after release.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I really don’t want to write this review, because then that means that The Nash Brothers Series is done. And I don’t want it to be done!

In Falter, we finally get youngest brother Fletcher’s story. It’s set a few years after Fleeting, so at the same time that we get Fletcher and Ryan’s romance, there are updates on Keaton/Presley, Bowen/Lily and Forrest/Penelope.

falterteaser5
Each brother in this series had their own demons to battle. As a recovering alcoholic, Fletcher’s story is a bit more intense than the others have been. I loved how perfectly matched he and Ryan are — two sides of the same coin. She grew up in the foster system after being abandoned by her addict mother, and those scars ran deep for her. She’s never really trusted anyone as a result, and bounced from relationship to relationship looking for someone to love her unconditionally. Fletcher is five years sober, and with no recollection of his sexual history while he was drinking, he’s taken being celibate to a whole new level as he struggles every day to not drink. But there is an intense connection between the two of them, and eventually, the girl who’s sworn off men and the guy who’s sworn off women find themselves unable to stay away from the other.

falterteaser4.jpg
Carrie Aarons does a great job of working their mutual demons into this story, and how each of their struggles and backgrounds affects their current relationship. Will Ryan always be second-guessing Fletcher? Will Fletch ever find someone who can accept him for who he is and how he must now live his life? It’s a wonderful exploration, complete with a breakup that neither of them really wants an an awesome grand gesture on Fletcher’s part to win Ryan back.

I loved that the epilogue was set years in the future, so that there’s not just a HEA for Fletcher and Ryan, but we get a glimpse at how the rest of the Nash brothers are doing too. I’ve adored this series. Each book is a standalone, but these brothers and the girlfriends they are married to are pretty freaking awesome, so you should just read them all!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
