Sunny Shelly’s Review: Unconventional, by Isabel Love

Title: Unconventional
Author: Isabel Love
Genre: Erotic Romance
Release Date: July 20, 2017

BLURB

Happily ever after—what a joke! I tried that once and ended up divorced.
Now, I only want one thing from men.
Charlie Nelson is good at giving me that one thing. Really, really good.

So good, in fact, I discovered a new side of myself.
I never knew I liked to watch until I saw his talented hands touching someone else.
I never knew I liked to be watched until I felt his searing gaze on me.

Maybe happily ever after isn’t always a white picket fence, wedding bells, and 2.5 kids.
Maybe it’s something a bit more…unconventional.

*Warning: Contains dirty talk, piercings and hot threesomes.
Intended for readers over 18 years of age.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Smoking Stars

HOT DAMN!

I had the pleasure of reading Isabel’s debut novel, Untouchable, and loved the sweet story between Max and Monica. So when Isabel said that Unconventional would be waaaay hotter, I figured, okay, why not. And boy did she deliver!

Unconventional is the story of Quinn and Charlie, two characters that we met in Untouchable: Max and Monica’s best friends. It is a complete standalone, and even though I previously read Untouchable and there are some story continuations in Unconventional from that book, I did not find that there were holes in the story as a result.

Quinn is an painter, and Charlie a photographer, so they not only connect as artist, but they both love sex. Like, a lot. As Quinn and Charlie spend more time together exploring their sexual appetites, little by little, their friends-with-benefits relationship begins to transform into a bona fide romantic relationship. And that kind of freaks out both of these commitmentphobes.

What I really liked about Unconventional is that there was so much more to the story than the sexcapeds. Isabel Love did a great job of showing a vulnerable side to Charlie that he’s never let anyone see before Quinn. And the problems both of them have with their parents was so wonderfully described and shown to the reader, it added another layer to the developing relationship — and went a long way in terms of me investing in them as a real couple.

I did not expect the twist in the story that leads to The Conflict between Charlie and Quinn, but it fits in so perfectly with who these two people are and their greatest fears. By the time their HEA came about — as unconventional as their relationship is — I was wiping tears from my eyes.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Eye Candy, by Jessica Lemmon

19437310_10212680526359275_1761922292719740007_n.jpg

Jacqueline: As an adult woman–and the vice president of a marketing firm–I shouldn’t be waiting by my office window to ogle the mystery man who jogs by every morning at 11:45. Sure, he’s a gorgeous, perfect specimen of the human race, but I can’t bring myself to hit on a total stranger. However, my best friend-slash-colleague Vince Carson thinks I should do more than talk to the guy. In fact, he’s borderline obsessive about “getting me laid.” (His words.) But the more time we spend together, the more it’s clear: The one I’m falling for is Vince.

Vince: Jackie Butler’s got it bad for some pompous, over-pumped A-hole who struts his stuff past her window. That doesn’t bother me. I know she deserves nice things. What does bother me is that she friend-zoned me big-time last year, so I can’t ask her out myself. But what if I set her up with Mr. Steroids? Then, when he breaks her heart, I can swoop in and save her like the nice guy I am. Everything’s going according to plan . . . until we share a ridiculously epic kiss. And suddenly anything is possible.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3 Stars

Today was a chilly, rainy summer day, and Eye Candy was the perfect book to pass the time. The story isn’t too deep, doesn’t have much angst between the two characters, and is a good story in the friends-to-lovers trope. Jackie and Vince both share the title of VP at their marketing firm, and grew closer as she (a divorcee) helped him get through his own divorce. Three years after the end of her marriage, Jackie is still set on not dating again. But Vince is starting to notice his best bud as more than just a friend, and wants to get out of the Friend Zone. So Vince hopes that giving Jackie “dating lessons” so she can get over her hump and ask out the hot runner she’s been ogling from her office window will also open the door for him to make his own move.

It’s a familiar plot, and while Jessica Lemmon does a fine job with it, there wasn’t anything that stood out between Jackie and Vince that made me absolutely love this book. It was good enough; I just didn’t love it. I felt that two mature adults, both of whom have been married before, should have been past the point of playing that “should I tell her/him that I have real feelings or not” game.

Overall, Eye Candy was a decent read. It’s a pretty fluffy story that doesn’t make you think too hard about the characters and their relationship, and there is a satisfying HEA. I received an advanced copy courtesy of Loveswept and Random House Publishers and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Hard Rock Deceit, by Athena Wright

19756823_1789444931385734_255866095568467432_n.jpg

He’s a brilliant artist. A rock star god.
He challenges me. Excites me.
He makes me quiver. Makes me swoon.
He makes me feel things I’ve never dreamed of.
But we’re both dedicated to our art. We’ll do whatever it takes to succeed.
When I find out just how far he’ll go, it threatens to tear our world apart.

— — —

Hard Rock Deceit is a New Adult Rock Star Romance. It is the fourth novel in the Darkest Days series, but can be read as a standalone with a HEA.

A note from the author: This book is complete and utter fangirl wish fulfillment. It is not realistic in the slightest. Then again, who reads rock star romances for realism, anyway? 😉

20017582_1793804970949730_7178777264858666726_o.jpg

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Rocking Stars

Hard Rock Deceit is the fourth book in Athena Wright’s Darkest Days series, and it’s just as fabulous as the three that came before it. This story centers on the band’s drummer and leader, August — a perfectionist who expects everyone around him to bring their A game, always. August meets recent college graduate Cassie, a photographer, and hires her to join Darkest Days on their upcoming tour.

As they spend time together while August teaches Cassie how to tap into her passion and have that come across more in her photographs, the two begin to fall for one another. August pushes Cassie to step outside of her comfort zone, and for the first time in her dating life, Cassie begins to feel something intense for a man as August stirs up emotions and feelings in her that she’s never experienced before.

But August is hiding a major secret from his bandmates, and the depths of Mr. Perfect’s lies and deceit could ruin not only his own life, but the livelihood of his friends as well.

As with her other rockstar romances, Athena writes a sexy celebrity hero, and a relatable, ordinary heroine. The exchanges between August and Cassie are sweet and tender when they are supposed to be, and sexually charged when they’re supposed to be. August is so used to being the doer, the organizer, the leader, and when his life starts spiraling out of control, he can’t handle it. When he finally, finally, breaks down and seeks out Cassie for help, it’s a turning point for their relationship. One of my big pet peeves is when a reader is TOLD something happens, rather than shown so through the storytelling. Athena always does a great job in taking the reader along as her characters fall in love and shows them on their journey.

My only complaint is that how August knew about Cassie wasn’t explained well enough. He’s been following her — okay, how did he hear about her in the first place if she’s fresh out of college? I thought that needed a more thorough explanation to make August seem less stalker-y.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Release Date: July 25, 2017

Synopsis

Everyone just stop for one bleeping minute so we can all get real with each other. Being a mom is some tough $#!†. You’re constantly wearing questionable substances that make you ask, “is this chocolate or … oh, crap …” and your purse is merely a receptacle for three-week-old snacks and broken crayons.

Let’s be honest … even when we’re doing this “mom” thing right, we’re somehow doing it completely wrong.

Pardon us while we dust off our collective Mother of the Year trophy and proudly present you with an epic anthology of #MOMFAILS.

*Stories inspired by real life (unless you’re a cop, then it’s all complete fiction). Names and situations have been changed to protect the guilty (and by guilty, we mean the moms). Because motherhood is a battlefield and we’re all just trying to survive by any means necessary.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Motherhood-Is-A-Bitch Stars

Have you ever had one of those days where you feel like you are the worst mom ever, and your Mother card needs to be revoked? You are not alone! #MomFail is a hilarious anthology of 24 short stories ranging from nursing horrors to diaper blow-outs, epic grocery store failures to attempts at daytime sex while the kiddos are in the other room. Who hasn’t experienced any of those parenting horrors? Sometimes all of the above on a daily basis!

The stories are short and sweet, each one funnier than the one before. This anthology is most definitely something I will be keeping on my kindle to re-read on those days where I feel like I am most definitely losing my ish when it comes to parenting!

Teaser Tuesday: Twisted Twosome, by Meghan Quinn, is Coming Soon!

Check out the amazing teaser for TWISTED TWOSOME by Meghan Quinn!

TWISTED TWOSOME
NA Romantic Comedy

Add to Goodreads: http://bit.ly/2uarCWF

Racer McKay is a broody bastard.
From the moment I met him, he’s been rude, irritable, and unbearable.
A contractor working to remodel my parents pool house for extra cash, he stomps around in those clunky construction boots with his tool belt wrapped around his narrow waist, and a chip on his shoulder.
Racer McKay is also infuriatingly . . . sexy as hell. I want to take that pencil tucked behind his ear, and draw lazy lines slowly up and down his body all the while wanting to strangle him at the same time.
We try to stay out of each other’s way . . . that is until I have no other option but to ask for his help.
But what I don’t realize is he needs me just as much as I need him. I have money he’s desperate for, and he holds the key to making my dreams come true.
Our pranks turn from sarcastic banter, to sexual tension and lust-filled glances. Bickering matches quickly morph into slow burn moments. We’re hot, we’re cold. We push and pull. I need him, I don’t want him. We’re on the verge of combusting with an agreement dangling dangerously between us. Neither one of us can afford to lose one another and yet, we’re finding it quite hard to decipher the line that rests between love and hate.
*Twisted Twosome is a stand alone romantic comedy.

About the Author:
Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.
Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.
Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

Now Live: Moonstruck, by Donna Grant

Brand New Shifter Romance

Grab it TODAY!

HIS FIGHT TO BE WHOLE

Years ago, Solomon LaRue’s life was ripped apart when his fiancée was taken from him brutally and without cause. After, he vowed to never love again and put all of his energy into defending New Orleans from the evil Voodoo priestess out to destroy everything he held dear. Until a beautiful and maddening witch from the Quarter comes into his life and shakes everything up. Now, he thinks of nothing but her, and despite the dangers surrounding his family, he can’t help but alter his plans to make sure she stays safe. At all costs.

HER REASON FOR BEING

For most of her life, Minka Verdin thought she was nothing more than a gifted fortune teller until a life-altering experience brought her into her powers. Now, honed and hardened to be the weapon she knows she can be, she has no time for lust and love in her life. Unfortunately, a certain sexy-as-sin werewolf occupies her thoughts—and her heart—day in and day out. Minka knows that the survival of many is always more important than the safety of one, and she is more than willing to sacrifice herself so that those she loves remain untouched. But Solomon is having none of that and reminds her that there is no force as strong as the magic between them

EXCERPT

Was it worse to want someone you couldn’t have? Or to never know that kind of longing?
Minka wasn’t sure which was more awful. She knew that no matter how much she hungered for Solomon’s touch or craved his attention, that she would never be his. That kind of knowledge did strange things to a person.
Her heart had jumped in her throat to find him there. It had felt like forever since she’d seen his face and those brilliant blue eyes. All the LaRues and Chiassons had them, but Solomon’s were brighter than the others’.
And his hair. The dark blond strands were laced with pale brown that made her want to sink her hands into the locks.
His face was all hard angles and ruggedness that she longed to touch and kiss. The shadow of dark whiskers on his jaw made her stomach flutter and her skin prickle with awareness.
Then there was that body of his. Could anyone wear jeans like Solomon? The denim clung to his trim waist and hips, curving over his fine ass before encasing his long legs. Though it was his ability to wear a plain white shirt over the impeccably hard sinew of his chest and wide shoulders that could make her heart miss a beat.
He was simply mouth-watering. The complete package…and utterly out of reach.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Overlooked, by Simone Sowood and Lulu Pratt

She’s the closest thing I ever had to a sister

Our parents are best friends and neighbors.
We were raised together.
But one look at her naked body in the window and I’m hard.
How did I never notice her this way before?
Too bad she’s forbidden fruit.
She doesn’t deserve to be in my trail of one and done women.
Plus it would ruin 25 years of friendship between our parents.
But my body craves her.
The longer she stands in the window, the less I’m able to resist.
Screw it.
Before I leave, I’ll give her a few good nights she’ll never forget.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3 Stars

If you are looking for a light and easy read, then don’t overlook Overlooked. I easily read this book in an afternoon. It doesn’t require deep thinking, has the right amount of smut, and a hilarious-but-not-really bathroom scene.

Zane and Harper have been friends forever, having grown up next door to one another. Their parents are still best friends. But they haven’t seen much of each other since graduating high school five years ago. She got a job in NYC working in publishing after college, and he’d enlisted in the Army. But when both come home for festivities surrounding Zane’s parent’s 25th anniversary, both feel a ping of feeling for the other, and by the end of the week, Zane and Harper must decide if they want to cross “that” line.

The story is predictable, and the characters are likable enough, but I just didn’t find anything *amazing* about Zane and Harper that completely hooked me. But it was a rainy summer afternoon, and this book was the perfect way to pass the time. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
