Blog Tour: Sunny Shelly Reviews The Fear Of Falling, by Amanda Cowen

The Fear of Falling
Amanda Cowen
Publication date: October 8th 2018
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

When Ella Jones’ twenty-first birthday ends with a bang – literally – she never imagined it would be with her best friend since freshman year, Ryan Owen.

A year later, after their so called “mistake”, they’re still best friends and about to rock their Senior year at the University of San Francisco. But when Ryan returns from spending a summer in Australia and brings back a friend, Liam George, who takes an immediate liking to Ella, Ryan starts to question the Aussie’s intentions with his best friend. The trouble is, Ryan has a girlfriend of his own, and Ella and Ryan swore they would never cross that line again – until they do.

They try not to let their second slip up affect their friendship, but when Spring Break forces them to vacation under the same roof; and Ryan’s ex walks back into his life, Ella is shocked by a fierce stab of possessiveness. And when Ella continues to see Liam, Ryan finds himself plagued by unfamiliar jealousy. With their friendship strained for the first time, Ella and Ryan face an alarming truth: Maybe they can’t be just friends. Maybe they are falling faster than expected. And maybe, deep down, they want to.

Goodreads / Amazon

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3.5 Stars

This book started off strong — the best friends trope is one of my favorites. I liked how both Ryan and Ella struggled with their feelings in the aftermath of them sleeping together the night of her birthday. But somewhere in the middle, it sort of went off the rails for me. I was getting annoyed with Ella and felt like she was jerking Ryan around a bit. At least Ryan was more honest with his feelings afterwards, dropping hints that he wouldn’t mind crossing that line from best friends to something more. Ella could have saved them both a world of heartache had she just been honest with herself and Ryan earlier. I would have much rather seen them adapt to being a couple after being such close friends.

The crux of the story then becomes how once you’ve crossed the line to something more, can you really go back to being just friends?

But overall, The Fear Of Falling was an entertaining read. Aside from the will-they-or-won’t-they cross the line to coupledom, we also see how both Ella and Ryan struggle with their career paths, and that gave another dimension to the characters that readers don’t always get to see in YA romances. They characters had good chemistry, and I liked the bigger group of friends as well.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Love, Sincerely Yours, by Sara Ney & Meghan Quinn

Dear Mister…**strike out** no, too formal.

Hey there sweet cheeks *strike out* no, too forward.

To whom it may concern,

Full disclosure; before we move forward with this email, I would like it to be known that I have consumed an adequate amount of alcoholic beverages to intoxicate myself tonight. Three margaritas, two shots, and one beer—because it was free.

I think it’s important to be open and honest with your co-workers, don’t you?

So here I am, being honest. Drunk but honest. Or just drunk with lust? You decide.

I like you so much it’s clouding my judgment and making me do things I never would sober. Like write this letter.

I have a hopeless, foolish, schoolgirl crush on you when you are the last person on earth I should be falling for. Did you know people around the office call you a sadist? An egomaniac. An insensitive, arrogant prick. Your bark is worse then your bite, and you don’t scare me. The fact is, I’d love that bite of yours to nip at my bare skin while we’re both wearing nothing but sheets.

For once I want you to look at me as more than one of your employees.

And as long as we’re being honest, that navy blue suit you wear? With the crisp white shirt? It really makes me want to loosen your tie and show you who’s boss.

Love,

Sincerely,

Yours.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Love, Sincerely, Yours was about as perfect as can be! Another collaboration between Meghan Quinn and Sara Ney, this office romance had me laughing so hard. I mean, haven’t we all, on some level, wished we could drunkenly admit our lust for someone? Add in the fact that Rome is Payton’s arrogant, jerk of a boss, and there were so many avenues to explore!

The authors did a fantastic job of showing just how Payton knocks Rome down a few pegs. She truly knocks him off of his game, and he turns out to be such a sap when he’s with her. A beast in the boardroom, but a total gentleman when it comes to their personal relationship. She’s not afraid to call him out on his BS, and she brings a smile to his face. By the time The Conflict came around, I was so invested in them as a couple. I actually cried while reading that chapter!

As much as I adored this book, I wish that we could have gotten a bit more out of Rome’s personal life/background — what made him into such a workaholic? And that Payton’s relationships with her friends/co-workers at Roam, Inc. were completely dropped once Rome discovers that she was sending him the anonymous emails and they ultimately began dating. I thought those connections with her girlfriends were just as strong as his with his best friend/business partner Hunter. But clearly, the authors wanted to develop Hunter more since the next book in this apparent series will be his. And I get that. But Payton’s friends were so instrumental in the front half of this story that I was a bit disappointed to see them disappear in the second half.

Overall, Love, Sincerely Yours was a fantastic office romance. An easy, entertaining read! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

EXCERPT

I open the company messenger app on my phone and scroll through the executive names, knowing full well I’m about to break a policy. It’s the company’s phone, and the company’s app, and I’m about to use it for personal use. To flirt.

With my boss.

I close my eyes, find his name—next to it is a little, green dot, which means. . .

He’s on the app.

I’ve never talked to him live before so this is a huge step, but then again, it might be more fun to get his initial reactions to my comments.

Debating it for all but two seconds, I type out a message to him, making sure I’m signed on under my LSY persona.

HandsRomingMyBody: Hey you.

My text turns into a new message on the app and I wait on bated breath to see if he will respond. Nerves prickle up my spine, my fingers feeling numb, my mind playing mutiny with my heart just as little dots appear letting me know he’s typing.

Oh God, I don’t think I’ve been more excited.

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.

Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Blog Tour: Sunny Shelly Reviews All My Life, by Prescott Lane

AML-BT-Banner.jpg

All My Life by Prescott Lane
Release Date: October 10, 2018

All My Life_Amazon_KOBO_iBooks.jpg

All My Life, an all-new standalone contemporary romance by Prescott Lane.

The beginning of any love story starts with the meet.

I’ve known Garrett Hollis since before I can remember, and I’ve loved him just as long. I loved him while he loved someone else. I loved him when he had a baby with her. I loved him when she left him.

The greatest of love stories is that between a dad and his daughter. I should know. I’ve had a front row seat. First steps, first words, all the big moments.

Garrett was just a teenager when Mia was born. I’ve watched him braid his daughter’s hair, hold her hand crossing the street, seen her asleep on his chest. I’m the best friend, the one they can count on for everything from dance lessons to motherly advice, anything they need. I’m their go-to girl.

The best part of any love story is the happily ever after.

But what if the happily ever after doesn’t include you?

All my life, that’s how long I’ve loved him.

Of course, he’s clueless.

Excerpt:

As far as dates go, this one has been good. I like her. She’s attractive, funny, smart, seems to have her head on straight. All the boxes are checked. This should be the point where I kiss her, ask her out again. I should be devising ways to get in this woman’s panties, but instead I’m thinking more about yanking down the tutu of one very sexy Biscuit Girl. I should be thinking about how to get this woman to fall for me, but it’s me that’s fallen. I should have one thing on my mind, and I do — Devlyn.

There’s just one big ass problem. She’s my friend. I can’t go there. There are so many reasons why I can’t go there. The town would have a field day. We’d have no privacy. Everyone would have an opinion. If we broke up, where would I get a decent cup of coffee? How would Mia react to this? Then there’s Scott, who’s actually the least of my concerns. Devlyn seemed pretty sure it was over, and if it’s not, I plan on convincing her.

I don’t want to lose Devlyn.

Staying friends guarantees her in my life. Dating her doesn’t.

Love doesn’t come with a guarantee.

Love is a risk. I used to be a risk taker, but teenage fatherhood buried that part of me. Stability became the name of the game. It had to. I look towards her diner, wondering if she’s back.

AML NA

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Devlyn has been in love with her best friend, Garrett, all of her life. She’s helped him raise his daughter, Mia, has been his best friend and his go-to. Even when their small town turned against him for knocking up his high school girlfriend, Devlyn was the one who stuck by them, and eventually got the community to see Garrett in a different light.

When Mia’s valedictorian speech goes viral, women literally come knocking down Garrett’s door. He agrees to a handful of dates to appease his daughter, and it’s then that he realizes that the woman he’s been looking for has been standing right in front of him his entire life.

Based on the book cover, I expected Garrett’s daughter, Mia, to be a toddler; not a teenager graduating from high school. So the troubles that Garrett and Devlyn experience have less to do with him being a single parent and everything to do with the sudden return of Mia’s mother. With unrequited love stories, you have to, as a reader, just accept the fact that yes, so-and-so could have said something years earlier about their feelings. But if they had, there wouldn’t be a book to read now, would there? So, yes, maybe Devlyn could have told Garrett how she felt years earlier, but then that would have completely changed the dynamic of their friendship, how she was the one who understood his love for Mia because she loved Mia just as much. And that’s why I was crying when Devlyn decides to take herself out of the equation in order to give Mia — the child she loves as if she was her own — the life that she’d always longed for.

There were many times that I thought Garrett was a dope, and he could have treated Devlyn better. Especially once they started dating. But this book has a nice arc to it as they go from friends to secret lovers to splitting up — and he got his head out of his butt in the end and made the grand gesture that Devlyn deserved after loving him all her life.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Not a standalone! The conclusion of a duet!

It started with a lie, but it ended with the most beautiful truth! Truth picks up in the same scenario where Lie left off… Brian’s world is shattered, and he’s now lost everything. I really despised Brian by the end of Lisa Suzanne’s Destiny trilogy, but my heart broke for him in this duet. He really is a changed man, and he recognizes that karma has come around to bite him after years of lies, manipulation and betrayal.

As he repairs his relationships with so many people in his life, Brian also realizes how utterly alone he is due to his actions over the years. Truth takes Brian on a long journey of self-exploration, and he really comes out on the other side as a redeemed man.

But the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that there’s so much I don’t know. Like why his touch sets off a chain reaction straight to my nethers. Or how I’m certain each kiss is the best I’ll ever have, until the moment his lips take mine again.

There’s so much I don’t know.

About the Author

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey.

From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

Blog Tour: Sunny Shelly Reviews Aftereffects, by L.J. Greene

Aftereffects
L.J. Greene
Publication date: October 8th 2018
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

What could be more terrifying than falling in love with the person who is your good place? Maybe realizing just a smidge too late that there can be dire consequences to becoming your best friend’s lover.

The lives of Keir Stevens and Selene Georgiou serendipitously collide mid-span on San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, one jarring step ahead of fate. He’s a temporary transplant from Seattle; she’s facing the biggest career opportunity of her life. They have no notion of the common thread that connects them.

As they come to discover they share a similar adversity, their relationship evolves from a fun and frivolous infatuation with nowhere to go into a true friendship with sincerity, humor, and respect at its heart.

It’s awfully hard not to fall in love with that – even if you’re pretty darn certain you shouldn’t.

But when love and friendship suffer their own devastating collision – their interests brutally conflicting – the consequences of blurring the lines between the two suddenly become real. In the end, which one will be the stronger? And more importantly, can either survive?

AFTER EFFECTS is a standalone dual POV adult contemporary romance about the things we choose in life out of all the things that are beyond our choosing – a tale of love and friendship, of time and how we spend it, and of the inner wars that ultimately show us what really matters.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Every decision, every action, has an after effect. This book marvelously explores how a chance encounter between Keir and Selene changes everything for the two of them, and how the consequences of all of their actions impacts them.

They meet when they are both at a crossroads in their lives — Stuck between the past and the future. There is an immediate connection between them and from that forms a wonderful friendship. A friendship that they both rely on immensely. But when you begin to realize that you are falling in love with your best friend, is it worth crossing that line, blurring those boundaries, for the chance at something more amazing?

This story had me tied in knots. Both Keir and Selene knew their relationship had an expiration date, and they just couldn’t come to terms with join to work around that. Until they do… because Aftereffects has a wonderful HEA and I was so happy to get to that last page after traveling this journey with this couple!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

BLURB

Everyone wants to get close to a rock star.

The bright lights.

The music.

Those talented fingers strumming… a guitar.

Everyone wants to bang a rock star.

So why do I keep running from the one who wants me?

I’m America’s Sweetheart.

I have a reputation.

He’s a boy-band icon turned rock god.

I’m vanilla.

He’s every flavor of bad.

And he’s much, much too young for me.

If I end up in Nick Ryder’s bed, my career and I will both be screwed.

…but that’s only if I’m caught.

EXCERPT

“Hi,” he says, doing a double-take when he realizes it’s me. He looks fabulous, of course, because why wouldn’t he when I look so scrubby? He’s wearing jeans and a T-shirt and a hoodie, and his face doesn’t look like he’s tired, or like he stayed up late to drink too much and tear up the dance floor.

Or like he spent last night making out with somebody more than a decade older than him.

“It’s crazy seeing you here,” I say. I giggle again at the sheer ridiculousness of this. “Do you come here often?” What am I doing? What am I saying? It’s like I just learned how to talk to people of the opposite sex. How have I ever gotten a date?

Not that I’m trying to date Nick.

“Occasionally. You?” He sticks his hands in his pockets and he’s so relaxed, so sexy, and I just can’t stand all that swagger on such a handsome guy that I am not allowed to touch. It’s unfair for anyone to look so effortlessly edible before nine a.m.

“It’s my favorite shop. Come here all the time.” I take a couple steps backwards, trying to shift toward my car. “I probably should—”

“Don’t you think it’s probably more than a coincidence?” He takes a step towards me, and I take one back, willing myself not to respond to the rumble of his deep voice and the magnetism of his body. “That we’d see each other again so soon. Kind of like fate, almost.”

Oh my god, Oh my god, he’s flirting with me. What do I do? He’s so hot, I can’t even look at him. But then I do, and I have total church-giggles over this, and I have to escape before I make an even bigger fool out of myself. Someone is bound to notice that I am losing my cool, and they’ll draw conclusions that aren’t even true.

It was just kissing!

“It’s really weird, I have to admit.” I dance back some more, then glance behind me to make sure I’m not going to back into the street and get run over and make this even worse. “And really awkward.” I brush some hair back that’s come loose from the messy bun at the base of my neck.

He shrugs, seeming to disagree. And it’s true that I’m the only one who seems to be awkward right now. “I don’t know about that. Doesn’t have to be awkward. Could just be convenient. Since I never got your phone number.”

If I didn’t think he was flirting before, I know he definitely is now. I don’t want to say no to him, but I have to say no to him. He cannot have my number. Can’t have anything more than a memory of a scorching-hot make-out in the back of a club. What we did was not for a sunlit day. It was for a dark corner. And yet, I still can’t seem to actually say the word no. So instead I say, “Why do you need my phone number?”

Oh my god, this is mortifying. It really is like I’m in high school again and I’ve forgotten not only how to talk to boys but how to stand in their presence.

He takes another step toward me, laughing. “Well, for one thing, I thought it might be nice if we had dinner sometime.”

He has the most ridiculous smile, I realize. It lights up his entire face. You can see it in his eyes, and there’s no pretension. It’s all genuine. Pure sunshine. I’m rendered speechless by it for half a second and I have to ask, “What was that?”

“Dinner,” he says, that huge-ass grin in full force, taking another step toward me, and now there’s only three feet between us, and I can feel the body heat from him, can remember what it felt like the last time he walked me backwards into a wall and then his body was pressing into me, and his mouth was on me. When his chest was against me, when his cock was pressing into me and my hips—

I suddenly jump backwards. “I don’t think that would be a good idea.” I look around suddenly to see if anyone’s noticed this exchange yet.

It’s fine, it’s still fine.

We’re just two people who work in the same industry who bumped into each other on a Saturday morning and are chatting like people do on Saturday mornings when they bump into each other. While giggling. Totally fine.

“What are you worried about, Natalia?” He doesn’t chase after me, just stands there looking confident and laid-back. Like a man trying to tempt a scared animal out from hiding. “I mean—I do bite, but most women like it.”

I smile at that, because I can’t help it, but I duck so he doesn’t see.

He’s probably so much more experienced than me.

He’s probably so dirty in the bedroom.

God, I shouldn’t be thinking about that. “I shouldn’t even be talking to you,” I say, shaking my head. I turn toward my car.

“No, you shouldn’t be,” he calls from behind me, and I have to actually close my eyes to collect myself because it’s obvious he’s thinking about doing not-talking things. Things like last night. Things like biting.

Things good girls have no business being so turned on by.

I tell myself he probably says stuff like that to all the girls who walk away from him.

But who am I kidding? Who has ever walked away from Nick Ryder? Besides me, I mean. Twice now. I deserve an Oscar for my willpower. That should be a new category.

“Bye, Nick,” I call as I flee with my coffee.

Then I step into my car, put my keys in the ignition and drive away before I lose my senses and change my mind.

About Laurelin

With over 1 million books sold, Laurelin Paige is the NY Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today Bestselling Author of the Fixed Trilogy. She’s a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there’s kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn’t seem to complain, however. When she isn’t reading or writing sexy stories, she’s probably singing, watching Game of Thrones and the Walking Dead, or dreaming of Michael Fassbender. She’s also a proud member of Mensa International though she doesn’t do anything with the organization except use it as material for her bio.
