Sunny Shelly’s Review: Insistent, by Kaylee Ryan

Title: Insistent

Series: Soul Serenade #4

Author: Kaylee Ryan
Genre: New Adult

Release Date: November 27, 2018

Blurb
She came into my life without warning. It wasn’t love at
first sight, but the more time I spent with her, I knew she was the one. Our
relationship was complicated, and I knew I had my work cut out for me. I have
to prove to her that she’s all I see. That no matter how the past reads, we can
re-write the future.
He’s the sexiest one of the group, in my personal opinion. We’re friends, and
colleagues, well technically he’s my boss. He’s also the man that consumes my
thoughts, and my desires. I have too much at stake to allow myself to jump into
bed with him, but I really really want to.

One taste and I know I’ll never be the same. Cassidy can prolong this all she
wants, but I know how it ends. When she’s mine.

He’s relentless, and I let him drag me under his spell. It
can’t happen again, but Gavin, he’s Insistent that this is just the beginning.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3.5 Stars

Insistent is the 4th and final book in the Soul Serenade series; I have not read the other books, and while this is a standalone, there are some details that I think I would have appreciated more had I read the rest of this series first.

Gavin is kind of the last man standing amongst his friends and bandmates: He’s single, watching the rest of his friends get married and start families. He’s long had a thing for Cassidy, but since she works for the band AND Gavin is one of the record company owners, she’s hesitant to get involved with him due to their professional connection.

The story itself is sweet, and Gavin really goes out of his way to move heaven and earth to prove to Cassidy that she’s the one for him and he wants to take care of her. He’s very INSISTENT about it. There are some big swoon-worthy moments in this book, but I just had a hard time connecting with the main characters. They just didn’t click for me, and I got annoyed with how many times Cassidy pushed Gavin away before finally giving in.

Despite my lack of connection with the characters, the story itself is a good one, and it has a wonderful HEA. I’m sure fans of this series will love Gavin and Cassidy’s tale! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

I reminded myself of the bubbly pink thing in my glass and
began pulling my hand toward my face when the cup was jerked from my grasp.
“Delicious,” Sean murmured as he sipped from the rim of my
glass, lifting his eyebrows and grinning hopelessly. Is this real?
“Where did you come from?” I snapped. “What are you doing
here?” The words fell out in accusation, but I was more surprised than
anything. I stopped dancing and stared at him, tanned and gorgeous. His beard
disappeared into delectable stubble. I had to stop myself from wanting to touch
it, to touch him. His wavy hair was cropped, forcing my focus to his glowing
emerald eyes which stared at me.
“Meeting Jesse. What are you doing here?” This creep owes me
an explanation. Or does he?
“Come here.” I pulled on his wrist and walked with Sean
through the gaping wall of windows that was open for the evening, blasted with
heat lamps and fans. Sorry, planet. In the dim glow of the streetlights I
observed Sean was wearing all black; dress pants and shirt, of course teasingly
unbuttoned at the top with his cuffs rolled over his muscular forearms. I
continued sipping from my glass, eyeing him suspiciously. I wasn’t sure what to
say, how to feel, or if he was actually standing there.
“I thought you were still in Miami,” I pressed, taking a sip
from my drink.
“I thought you’d be spending a Saturday night with your
boyfriend.” His top lip rolled from between his teeth, jaw clenched, and eyes
wild.
“Girls’ night,” I reminded him, smiling coyly. “When did you
get back?”
“Tuesday.”
“You waited almost a week to tell me.” I swung at his arm
playfully. “I’m hurt. I’m going back inside and you owe me a drink now that
you’ve tampered with this one.”
I turned to walk back into the bar and I felt his fingers
quickly wrap around my wrist and lift the glass from my hand. “I think you’ve
had enough, Ave.”
My body warmed with his hand along the middle of my back as
Sean guided me back to the booth. I was only on my second drink and resentful
he thought it was his place to tell me I had enough. I had enough of his
stupid, handsome face, that was for sure. I had enough of him the last time I
saw him, when he left me alone. Shudder. I didn’t have enough then. Seeing him
next to me, feeling his skin on my back, his eyes burning into mine, reminded
me of how much not enough I had of Sean.
Ella and Lizzie were still dancing in the middle of the
floor, leaving our booth empty. I noticed Jesse turn from the bar and gaze in
our direction, his mouth spreading into a playful smile. It was one twisted
reunion, and I couldn’t stop myself from attending.
Author Bio

there long after the pages have turned. Fiona works to meld themes in the
current world and spin them into stories of longing, determination, and hope.

About Kristen:

Kristen was born and raised in a small resort town in her beloved Montana. In her mid-twenties, she decided to stretch her wings and move to the Pacific Northwest, where she made her home for more than a dozen years.

During that time, Kristen wrote many romance novels and joined organizations such as RWA and other small writing groups. She spent countless hours in workshops, and more mornings than she can count up before the dawn so she could write before going to work. She submitted many manuscripts to agents and editors alike, but was always told no. In the summer of 2012, the self-publishing scene was new and thriving, and Kristen had one goal: to publish just one book. It was something she longed to cross off of her bucket list.

Not only did she publish one book, she’s since published close to thirty titles, many of which have hit the USA Today, New York Times and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists. She continues to self publish, best known for her With Me In Seattle and Boudreaux series, and is also proud to work with William Morrow, a division of HarperCollins, with the Fusion Series.

Kristen and her husband, John, make their home in her hometown of Whitefish, Montana with their two pugs and two cats.

Jo Michaels is…
Hi, I’m Jo. Let’s forget all the “Jo Michaels is blah, blah, blah” stuff and just go with it. I’m a voracious reader (often reading more than one book at a time), a writer, a book reviewer, a mom, a wife, and one of the EICs at INDIE Books Gone Wild. I have an almost photographic memory and tend to make people cringe at the number of details I can recall about them and/or their book(s). My imagination follows me around like a conjoined twin and causes me to space out pretty often or laugh out loud randomly in completely inappropriate situations.
I have a degree in graphic design, and my journey to the end was one few students who begin that program ever complete. However, this was one case where my memory and OCD tendencies helped me. Graduation was one of the most amazing days of my life. But, my most amazing day was when my now husband proposed. Every little girl dreams of being Cinderella someday, and he pulled off the proposal of fantasies.
At the risk of sounding cliché, I’m going to let it out there and say how much I absolutely adore the man I’m married to. Along with my children, he’s my whole world.
I’ve lived in Louisiana, Tennessee, and Georgia, but I’ve had my feet in almost every state. Traveling is something I adore, and have plans to someday see the Mongolia I’ve written about in Yassa.
One of my favorite things is hearing from fans! You can find me on social media most any day of the week. Connect! I’d love to hear from you.

“What is with all this glittery stuff?” Evie’s frustration grew as she slapped at another rack of sparkly outfits.
“Duh. It’s nearly Christmas. Everything’s gonna have some kind of glitz happening.” Shana plopped on the couch and threw herself backward, draping her forearm over her face. “You’re killing me. It’s a good thing you’re my best friend, or I would’ve traded you in a long time ago.”
“Shut. Up.” Grabbing a scarf, Evie chucked it at her friend’s head. “You know you love me.”
A grin bloomed on her over-glossed lips. “I do, but that doesn’t mean you’re not being a brat right now. Why don’t we just go to the freaking swimsuit store? You know they’ll have something beachy.”
“Have you seen their prices?”
“Yeah, but it’s not like your family is hurting for cash. What does it matter?” She sat up and threw the scarf back on the rack. It hit the metal, paused for a second, and slowly slid to the floor.
Evie bent over to pick it up and hang it properly as she answered, “Ever wonder why we’re not destitute? My parents are super frugal.”
“You guys are the definition of yuppies.”
With a sigh, she shrugged and waved her hand. “Fine. Let’s go to the swimsuit store.”
They stopped off at the coffee shop for a couple of lattes on the way. One of the baristas took the girls’ orders, and they moved to the end of the counter to wait while he fixed their drinks.
“Girl, he was eying you hard,” Shana said.
Evie turned back to look at the guy again, and she couldn’t stop the quirk of her lip when she saw him glance up, turn red, and go back to what he was doing. He was cute in a boy-band kind of way. His blond hair curled at the ends and was just long enough to graze the tops of thick eyebrows over honey brown eyes. She turned away when he looked at her again, and she grinned at Shana.
“I told you so.”
“And?”
“He’s fine as hell. If you don’t get his number, I’m going to.” Putting her hand on her hip, she pursed her lips and widened her eyes.
“No, you’re not, and neither am I. We have stuff to do.”

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Sex Material, by Victoria Ashley

Title: Sex Material
Author: Victoria Ashley
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: November 26, 2018
Blurb
Sex Material
It’s what
I’m known around town for.
A rock-hard
body, covered in tattoos with a sizeable bulge that women spend their nights
fantasizing about.
Women track me down, needing someone
that will fuck them rough without holding back.
They find me because they need a
distraction from reality. They need something to get their mind off of the
boyfriend who screwed them over or the job promotion they got passed over on at
work.
Sometimes it’s just because they need
someone reckless in the bedroom before settling down with the right one.
‘Cause I’m sure as hell not that guy.
Nowhere close.
I’m not the suit wearing, flower-buying
guy you take home to meet the parents. I’m not the guy who will make you feel
all warm and fucking fuzzy inside.
Not anymore.
I was boyfriend material once. Would’ve
even made a good husband. That was before everything good in my world got
ripped away, leaving me broken beyond repair.
These women come to me because they need an escape to cope with the
real world, but none of them know I
need it more than them. I need something to make me feel alive. Something to
get my heart beating again.
Then Cami shows up in my hometown,
broken-hearted and pissed off at the world, needing an escape from her cheating
ex.
She’s the only one that doesn’t want to
use my body. In fact, she wants nothing to do with it and has no problems
telling me so.
She’s interested in one thing only from
me—to move into my rental property. But the problem with that is the more we
fight, the deeper she buries herself in my soul.

Sex material is what I’m good at, but for
the first time, it may not be enough.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

I enjoyed this book so much more than I was expecting to! I was figuring it would be a sexy story with an arrogant and cocky hero, and it was… but there was so much more to Jensen and my heart broke for him!

It’s hate at first sight for the cocky construction and rental company owner and the sassy schoolteacher, Cami, who is looking for a new place to live after catching her boyfriend cheating. They definitely get off on the wrong foot, and their subsequent interactions go pretty much the same way. But there is such an intense push and pull between them — as much as they hate one another, they are incredibly attracted to the other as well. And for Jensen — who has pretty much lived the past few years as nothing more than a one-and-done stud for the local ladies — what he starts feelinng for Cami terrifies him.

Jensen is carrying some major baggage around, and the last thing he wants is to break Cami as a result of his demons. But will he take a chance and realize that it’s easier to carry that kind of load when you share what’s holding you back?

For as gruff and nasty as Jensen comes off, there is an incredibly sweet guy underneath that hard exterior. And when Cami uncovers the soft soul that’s buried underneath, these two build a beautiful life together. The guy who thought he was worth nothing more than sex material becomes the best kind of boyfriend material and then husband material.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt
When I look
up Cami is standing barefoot in a little white summer dress with her long
blonde hair pulled up into a lose bun.
The sight of her sun-kissed skin and long legs has my dick instantly
hardening beneath my jeans, and the moment my gaze moves up to her scowling
lips, it manages to harden even more.
“Is this
even a real application?” She holds the paper up and points at one of the extra questions I added before printing
it. “How many times a week did Douglas make you come? Really?”
“It’s
definitely a real application.” I stand, wiping my hands down my jeans. “Did
you answer every question?”
She shakes
her head and lets out a sarcastic laugh. “Did I… did I answer every question?
Of course I didn’t, because there’s at least three that are irrelevant to me
living here. You’re insane if you think I’m going to give you that kind of
information.”
Shaking my
head in disappointment, I move toward Cami, stopping once I’m standing right in
front of her. “Then you didn’t listen.” I point out. “I told you to complete
the application and bring it back to me within a few hours, and here you are
four fucking hours later standing in my
kitchen with an incomplete form.”
She
swallows nervously, her gaze roaming over my half-naked body as I take another
step closer to her, my arms now on either side of her waist, her back against
the counter. “Now answer the fucking
question, Cami.”
“Who said
he made me come weekly?” she questions stiffly. “Maybe I can’t answer that question.”
“What a
shame,” I say against her neck, before moving my lips up it, stopping just
beneath her ear. “Want to know how many times a week I would make you come?”
When she doesn’t say anything, I lick my lips and continue. “Fourteen.”
“You do
realize there’s only seven days in a week, right?” Her voice is weak, and I
can’t help but hope it’s from my body being so close.
“Exactly,”
I whisper in her ear. “But that’s just the number of times I would, not the
number that I could.”
“You’re
full of it.” She places her hands on my chest, causing me to take a slight step
back.
“Am I?” I
grip her waist with both hands. “I could prove right now that I’m not.”

Blog Tour: Sunny Shelly Reviews In Her Space, by Amie Knight

In Her Space, the stunning conclusion to the Stars Duet by Amie Knight is available NOW!

In-Her-Space-PRINT-FOR-WEB

I was reunited with Livingston Montgomery in the broad sunshine of a Carolina morning, right where she belonged; in the light.

It’d been too long since I’d seen her face.

She had changed, but so had I.

I was Adam Nova, reformed bad boy. Now, successful business man.

I had it all, except for the one person I’d always wanted, and now I was back to claim her.

She was living in the shadows, just a shell of the former girl I knew.

But it didn’t matter that she tried to hide from me in the dark.

I’d follow her into the deepest depths of hell.

I just wanted to be In Her Space.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

In Her Space is the stunning conclusion to the Stars Duet by Amie Knight. It’s been ten years since Liv and Adam were torn apart, and the time has changed both of them… and not necessarily for the better.

After serving time in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, Adam is now a successful businessman back with a revenge plan… as well as one to get Liv back. Even though they are still desperately in love with one another, the secrets of his past and truths he’s not willing to completely share threaten to tear them apart.

The Stars duet is an epic story of the boy from the wrong side of the tracks and the girl who stole his heart. Life has been cruel to both of them, however, and they need to learn how to trust in one another again in order to get to the HEA that they both dreamed about under the stars.

I was pleasantly surprised at how Sebastian, Braden and Mel come back into the story all these years later, and the relationships that Liv develops with them. And… The Line was the first book of Amie’s that I’d read, so I was thrilled when Liv went to visit Everly and Cole at the peach farm! What a treat!

Never forget to look up at the stars. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt:

“Come to my office now.” Patience had never been a virtue for this man.

“Adam, please.” My voice even sounded desperate to my own ears. Couldn’t he just give me a break one fucking day? Since he’d been home, my life had been in turmoil.

I think it was the use of his first name that gave him pause and gave me a bit of hope that he was going to leave me the hell alone today.

“My office. Now. I’m the boss.” And then he clicked off.

“Bastard,” I whispered.

A click. “I heard that.” And then another click.

I rolled my eyes as I cleaned my paper mess. I made sure to take my damn time going to his office. He may have been my boss, but he wasn’t the boss of me. Yeah, I was pretty mature today.

I knocked at the door and no one answered, so I knocked again. Harder.

Eventually, Adam turned the knob and opened it, his cell phone to his ear. He motioned with his hand for me to have a seat in the chair in front of his desk while he sat behind his desk, still on the phone.

The longer I sat there, the angrier I got. I didn’t even want to come in here and he insisted on it so he could sit his ass on the phone and look at me. It didn’t even seem like he was really talking to anyone except for the occasional yes or good from his mouth. He was making my already shitty day even shittier.

He finally hung up the phone and just gazed at me from the other side of the desk.

I raised my eyebrows at him. “Was there something you needed from me, Mister Nova?”

He ran a hand over the scruff of his jaw. “Ya know, Liv. This Mister Nova shit is getting really fucking old.”

I wasn’t in the mood for his bullshit today and I could tell he was really planning on giving it to me. “Ya know, Mister Nova, this calling me into your office for no fucking reason is getting really old, too.”

He stood up and stalked around the desk toward me like a predator after its prey. “I hate it when you cuss.”

I pursed my lips. “I hate it when you boss me around.”

“I want to kiss the sass right out of you.”

I stood up and we were toe-to-toe. “Don’t you even think about it,” I breathed.

He grabbed me by my hips and swung me around until I was pinned between him and the desk. “Oh, I think about it all the time and who’s going to stop me?”

My eyes fluttered closed. Oh fuck, he was getting to me. The fever was back. Making me hot and bothered and wanton, but I wasn’t easy. “My knee.”

“Oh, come on.” His nose brushed the side of mine. “I just want a taste.”

The smell of sweet smoke invaded my senses, making me crazed and incredibly dumb because I whimpered. And that was all she wrote.

His hands went to the back of my head and gripped my hair tight, angling my head just how he liked, and he didn’t just press his lips to mine. No, this wasn’t one of Adam’s sweet, thoughtful kisses. He pillaged my mouth. The man kissed me like he was drowning and I was his only source of air.

He bit at my lips and pulled my hair, the sting, the sheer intensity of the moment causing me to groan. I was angry and hot and God, I wanted him. I wanted to forget today. I wanted to bury myself in his kisses and passion for just a few minutes. I wanted to forget the time that had separated us. I wanted to pretend we hadn’t been separated for years and miles. I wanted to remember when he was mine and I was his.

He slid his hand up the outside of my thigh, almost like he’d held my hand all those years ago, with such thought, agonizingly slow and right up under my skirt. My heart raced in my chest. It beat so loudly in my ears, it was all I could hear.

“What are you doing?” I whispered, desperate for him to continue, praying he stopped. This was the best worst idea in the history of ideas.

“What I’ve been wanting to do since I saw you in that little black dress at the Gala. The dress you wore to torture me,” he growled, dropping to a knee while he shrugged out of his suit jacket.

My face grew hot as he pushed my skirt up, trailing his fingers up the outside of my thighs, sliding his palms up the inside, like his hands were on a leisurely walk, instead of seducing the hell out of me.

“This is a bad idea,” I panted, clutching the edge of his desk in my hands as his fingers brushed the apex of my thighs. “You’re my boss. You’re my ex-boyfriend. I’m not even sure you like me.”

“On the contrary, this is the best idea I’ve had in years.” His head dipped, and the sting of teeth right at the top of my thigh was dangerously close to where I ached. “And I’m gonna show you how much I like you.”

From New York Times bestselling author Kim Karr comes a brand new dramatic comedy of forbidden love and second chances.

Life is short. Time is fast.
No replay. No rewind.
That’s my motto.
And there’s nothing wrong with that.

That is until the day I turn 27 and everything changes. Suddenly, I’m expected to…

1) Move back to my hometown.
2) Stop partying.
3) Take over my family’s winery.
4) And get married.

Wait!
What?
That last one I didn’t see coming.

I’m Tyler Justin Ryan Holiday III, Northern California’s most eligible bachelor, and I don’t do monogamy. It’s just a wild guess but I’d have to say that monogamy isn’t going to do me, either.

My grandmother won’t listen to a word I have to say on the matter. And since the old battle-axe is still at the helm of my legacy, it’s not like I can blow her off. However, when she tells me whom she thinks will make the perfect bride, and then subsequently drops me at said bride’s door, I nearly lose my f*cking mind. Sure, dear old granny tries to sugarcoat the situation with a lot of glitz and glamour, but there’s no turning ash into fairy dust.

Paris Elizabeth Hollis Fairchild isn’t only the ultimate party girl and terrible wife material, she’s also my sworn enemy. We loathe each other. We have good reason. And it isn’t because our families are competitors.

Needless to say, I’m not surprised when the she-devil slams the door in my face—but it still pisses me off.

Apparently, she doesn’t know me as well as she thinks.
Doesn’t understand I’ve changed.
Doesn’t realize her rejection only spurs me on—makes me want to tame her, claim her, make her mine.

Then again, at 27 I’m no longer a lovesick teenager. I’m a grown-ass man with a big ego and an even bigger…never mind.

Paris says she doesn’t want to know how big I am, in any sense of the word.
I don’t believe her.
Either way, it doesn’t matter.

She’s a challenge I can’t resist. A temptation I can’t ignore. The woman I must have. We haven’t spoken in ten years but mark my words, she and I will be doing that and a hell of a lot more—very soon.

Life is short. Time is fast.
Replay. Rewind.
That’s my new motto.
And there’s no sugarcoating that.

***This is volume 1 in the Party Ever After series. Volume 2 will be released December 9th and Volume 3 on December 23rd.***

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

First in a series, ends on a cliffhanger!

Kim Karr kicks off a cleverly titled new series about former loves coming together to save their failing family wine businesses. Re-wined. Rewind. I love it!

Tyler is cocky and arrogant and a party boy, but he gets a rude wake-up call that the only way to save his family winery is to join forces with their rivals and marry his ex, Paris. While it’s clear that something still simmers between them, there is a lot of hate between them as well… and we never find out why. I’m dying to know what happened between them!

Book 1 is a lot of set-up for the series, and mostly Tyler trying to convince Paris of the marriage merger. There are a lot of unanswered questions, but KK has me hooked on this couple and I will definitely be checking out the rest of this series to see how this story unfolds!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
