Don't Say Goodbye Paperback.jpg

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I knew where Don’t Say Goodbye was going, but I cried when I got there anyway. This book is a marvelous story of an abused wife trying to piece her life back together. Reader beware, because this book is all about domestic violence.

Nacole flees her abusive ex and heads to Nashville to start a new life. When she begins waitressing at a local sports bar, she never expects to fall in love with her boss’ brother. But Garret is so sweet and gentle and patient with Nacole every step of the way, and I really could see how he was breaking down her walls. And for his part, Garret was married to the police force until the mysterious newcomer captured his attention like no other woman ever had.

I did have one shake-my-head moment amidst this story: I wanted to smack Garret, though, for flipping out over the use of Nacole’s middle name. So many people go by their middle names, so I didn’t see any reason for him to fly off the handle that way. I know that some shocking discovery about her past needed to happen in order to propel Garret and Nacole/Sadie to the next phase of their relationship, but I shook my head a bit at his reaction to her name.
45345813_10161123576420405_4776650090154557440_oRegardless, this was a wonderful story of survival, strength, endurance and true, unconditional love. You will need tissues! This was the first book I’ve read by Heather Lyn, and now I need to go read Taphouse Blues #1 to learn more about Brody and Lindsey! OMG, and that epilogue had me sobbing!!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt
Suddenly, I
felt a cold sensation on my upper shoulder, just below my neck. I turned, and
Ryan was right behind me. “What was that?”
“I think I
accidentally spilled frosting on you. Here.” He traced a path along the top of
my shoulder toward my neck, and I involuntarily shivered. In response, his
other hand came up and cupped my other shoulder and his head dipped down to
land right where he’d put the frosting.
Right
there. In that spot. He was licking
and sucking, getting every last bit as his hands traveled down my arms, clamping
around my elbows to hold me still.
“Accidentally,
huh?” I rasped, my voice sounding alien to my own ears. Likely it was my
aroused voice. And likely he knew exactly what it meant when I talked this way.
He was an
expert at turning me on and doing it quickly. Zero to Mach 5 in seconds flat.
Probably easier than flying his training jet. My panties were already wet, and
my nipples were painfully hard and probably very visible under my thin tank
top.
I cleared
my throat. “I, uh.” And cleared my throat again. “Have another batch to do.”
Without a
word he reached out and turned off the oven. “Let’s hit pause on that little project for now,” he said in that low,
gravelly voice of his. His aroused
voice. I knew that voice, too, and it usually seemed in perfect sync with the
tight squeezing sensation in my belly and lower that screamed for his hands and
mouth—and other parts—to ease the tension and bring release.
“You are a
wicked, wicked man.”
“This I
already know,” he said between more kisses on the back of my neck that sent
electric shocks down my spine and wound that tension deep inside me even
tighter.
I spun in
his arms, and though I could barely reach it, I managed to scoop up my own
dollop of frosting from the edge of the metal mixing bowl. He watched me then
raised his brow to ask the unspoken question—where are you going to put that?
My answer?
I grabbed the hem of his t-shirt and rucked it up, holding it just below his
collar, then liberally spread the frosting across his upper abs. Double yum.
He sucked
in a quick breath, and that was enough to get me diving right in. “Mmm. What
kind of mess do we have here? Better start cleaning up.”
The
frosting was sweet, creamy. Delectable, really. Buttercream was delicious.
Buttercream slathered across Ryan’s rock-hard abs? Perfection.

New Release: Hotshot Doc, by R.S. Grey

R.S. Grey’s next romantic comedy, HOTSHOT DOC, is available now! Find out more about it below and pick up your copy today!

About HOTSHOT DOC

Dr. Russell has a bad reputation around our hospital. The scrub techs say he’s cold-blooded, the nurses say he’s too cocky for his own good, and the residents say he’s the best surgeon in the world—really, just a swell guy!—on the off chance he’s within earshot.

I try to avoid him and his temper at all costs. It’s just as easy to admire his sexy, grip-it-while-he’s-ravishing-you hair and chiseled jaw from a healthy distance, preferably from the other end of the hallway…half-hidden behind a plant.

Unfortunately, my plan crumbles when my trusty ol’ boss decides to swap his white coat for a Hawaiian shirt. His retirement leaves me with two terrible options: switch specialties and spend months retraining, or take an open position as Dr. Russell’s surgical assistant.

That means I have to stand near him in the OR for hours on end and anticipate his every need without letting his biting words and bad attitude intimidate me. Oh, and as if that’s not difficult enough, my silly crush on him—the one I’ve tried to stomp on until it disappears—might just be reciprocated.

It’s fine.

I’m fine.

I take my job seriously. There will be no smoldering bedroom eyes across the operating table, no angry almost-kisses in the storage closet. (Well, no more of those.)

What’s the phrase? An apple a day keeps the doctor away?

Maybe I should go for a whole damn bushel.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

This short story is simple and sweet. The writing style felt a immature, but this is definitely a short story suitable for a teenage girl.

Evie and Adam are quite a cute couple. Their paths keep crossing over and over again before they finally give in and kiss under the mistletoe.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Jo Michaels is…
Hi, I’m Jo. Let’s forget all the “Jo Michaels is blah, blah, blah” stuff and just go with it. I’m a voracious reader (often reading more than one book at a time), a writer, a book reviewer, a mom, a wife, and one of the EICs at INDIE Books Gone Wild. I have an almost photographic memory and tend to make people cringe at the number of details I can recall about them and/or their book(s). My imagination follows me around like a conjoined twin and causes me to space out pretty often or laugh out loud randomly in completely inappropriate situations.
I have a degree in graphic design, and my journey to the end was one few students who begin that program ever complete. However, this was one case where my memory and OCD tendencies helped me. Graduation was one of the most amazing days of my life. But, my most amazing day was when my now husband proposed. Every little girl dreams of being Cinderella someday, and he pulled off the proposal of fantasies.
At the risk of sounding cliché, I’m going to let it out there and say how much I absolutely adore the man I’m married to. Along with my children, he’s my whole world.
I’ve lived in Louisiana, Tennessee, and Georgia, but I’ve had my feet in almost every state. Traveling is something I adore, and have plans to someday see the Mongolia I’ve written about in Yassa.
One of my favorite things is hearing from fans! You can find me on social media most any day of the week. Connect! I’d love to hear from you.

Ocean waves rolling over one another and birds cawing with the rising sun drove Evie out of bed the next morning. Someone had opened the sliding glass door, letting a light breeze blow through the room. She stretched, rose, and stuck her feet in her flip-flops to check it out. When she pulled back the curtain, she spied her parents cuddled together in the hammock a few feet away. They were mumbling to one another and stealing kisses now and then. Rather than disturb them, she went to the bathroom, brushed her teeth, and put her bathing suit back on, topping it with shorts and a tank.
Loudly clearing her throat before she stepped into the small yard, she plastered on a smile and pretended she hadn’t seen anything.
“Good morning!” Her mother grinned but didn’t disentangle herself from her husband. “Sleep well?”
“Like the dead. You?”
“Same. Benjamin up yet?”
“No. He was pretty tired last night. I’ve never seen him go to sleep that fast.” Evie laughed. “You guys going to breakfast?”
Her parents exchanged a look before her dad shrugged. “Do you think you can fly solo this morning? We’ll wait here for your brother to drag himself out of bed.”
“Er… How do I pay and stuff? Do I need money?” Evie asked.
“Nope. Everything’s included,” her mom answered.
“Okay. Do you guys have anything planned for today?” Wondering if there was anything for teens, specifically, Evie stuck her thumbnail between her teeth.
“Not at all. Go. Have some fun. Check in with us now and again via text, okay? Every few hours?” Dad asked.

“I will.” She turned to leave but called back over her shoulder, “You guys can go back to canoodling now. See ya later!” After grabbing her small backpack and stuffing her phone inside, she marched out the door, determined to find something fun to do.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Make Me Beg, by Julie Kriss

47319765_1244644952350925_5711183855063400448_n.jpg

You wouldn’t believe Dex Riggs and I are from the same town. He’s the ultimate bad boy; I’m the one who goes by the book. He’s a sexy former cop with a shady past; I’m the girl who married her high school sweetheart.

But now my marriage is over, I’m burned out on my business, and worst of all, I never got the baby I wanted. And now I never will.

Unless Dex is willing to make a deal.

I get a baby; he gets… me. For a little while. Once I’m knocked up, we’ll go our separate ways. That’s the rule.

I’ve never broken a rule. Dex has broken all of them.

Which rule will we break first?

43097371_1203144543167633_1978108893967941632_n.jpg

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I have been waiting for Dex Riggs’ story! I knew he wasn’t the cold jerk that his brothers had written him off as!

Make Me Beg is the final book in the Riggs Brother series, and is the story of eldest brother Dex and Emily’s twin sister, Lauren. While the rest of the Riggs clan — and just about everyone else in town — has just decided that Dex was a dirty cop, Lauren sees past the mask he wears. Dex was her very first kiss back in high school, and she’s always had a soft spot for him. Now, Lauren is piecing her life back together after her divorce, and she and Dex strike up a friendship at Emily and Luke’s wedding… a friendship that eventually leads to Dex offering to be Lauren’s babydaddy through a baby pact.

47470934_1244645959017491_8064749311054839808_n.jpg
But this book is so muchmore than an agreement to co-parent. As the story delves into Dex’s failed police career, we see how much the loss of his career has affected him. In every aspect of his life. And when he is forced to testfy in one of the biggest criminal cases in years, will Lauren stand by her guy, or write him off as the dirty cop everyone assumes Dex to be?
The relationship that develops between these two lost, lonely souls was amazing. Lauren brings out a different side to Dex than the surly guy we’ve met in the previous books, and I fell in love with him right along with her! I am going to miss the Riggs boys, but Julie Kriss wrapped up the entire series with a pretty boy in an epilogue that covers all four couples. I loved it! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

New Release: Sunny Shelly Reviews The Ex Effect, by Karla Sorensen

Title: The Ex Effect
Author: Karla Sorensen
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: December 5, 2018
Cover Design: Najla Qamber Designs
The headline could write itself:
Matthew Hawkins, star defensive end, comes out of retirement to play for the Washington Wolves.

Which is perfectly fine by Ava Baker—it makes her job as publicist for the team easier.

There’s only two problems. This particular football player was her first crush.

The bigger problem: Matthew Hawkins was once engaged to her older sister.

It’s been ten years since Ava has seen Matthew. He’s bigger, better looking, and best of all—completely single. Despite his history with her sister, the attraction between Ava and Matthew isn’t so one-sided anymore.

It’s hot enough to burn down the entire city of Seattle.

But this headline is far more complicated to write. And not just for the press or what it means for her family— because once her heart is involved, there’s no predicting the ending.

blog_review.jpg

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

The Ex Effect is the second book in Karla Sorensen’s Washington Wolves football series, and is the story of PR manager Ava and the guy she crushes on as a teenager, Matthew… who just so happens to be her bitchy sister’s ex-Fiance. I thought that the title was a misnomer; I was expecting a second-chance romance until I read the blurb.

I was a bit worried that the sibling double-dip in The Ex Effect was going to be icky, but Matthew’s dating and engagement to Ava’s sister happens ten years before the events in this story unfold. And the easy friendship that Ava and Matthew develop — and how easily they then slide into a relationship that neither one of them expected despite the potential messiness of their history — was incredibly sweet and endearing. I fell hard for this couple.

Matthew’s insecurities over having been cheated on and Ava’s baggage due to her overly critical family come into play quite a bit, and really give a background to how these characters interact. Or don’t, as the case may be, since Ava is so reluctant to discuss Matthew’s past with her sister. So when things blow up in their faces, I really got why they both reacted the way that they did.
In most books, it’s often the guy who makes the Grand Gesture to win back the girl. I loved how KS flips the script in The Ex Effect. Matthew is so hurt and lashing out, and Ava knows it’s up to her to prove her feelings to him… and she does in a spectacular way!

This book even ended with the sweetest HFN! I did, however, feel badly for Logan when he more or less loses Ava to Matthew. So I’m really hoping that Karla’s next book is his story!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Well, let’s see … I’m a wife and a mother. If the things that I write bring a smile to someone’s face, then I’ve done my job. I am obsessed with Outlander (both the books and the show). I’m almost exclusively a romance reader, which means some people will never consider me a literary snob. If I could meet one historical figure, it would be Jane Austen. I received my Bachelors in Public Relations and worked in health care marketing before I had my babies. I hate Twitter. I do it, but I hate it. Also, if you want to get on my good side, bring me wine and I’ll love you forever.

Synopsis

I ate leftover cupcakes and cracked macarons for breakfast.

I was ninety percent sure he simply ate up girls like me.

I was covered in paint splatters, cake batter, and sweat the first time I met him.

He was covered in badass tattoos and a smile that seemed to hold a secret I would never figure out.

Rule number 1 was never, under any circumstances, fall for the man who I wrote my lease check to.

So, I tucked him away in the “Fantasize Only” compartment of my brain and called it a day.

But he didn’t make it easy.

He was arrogant, funny, and the biggest flirt I had ever met.

Most of the time, I didn’t know if I was just a game to him.

If I didn’t know better, I’d say he was on a mission to ruin my life.

And maybe my heart, too.

New Release: Wrapped In Love, by Lexi Ryan

WIL-RB BANNER.jpg

A one-night stand with the boss was never in her plans.

Neither was falling in love . . .

Wrapped in Love, an all-new standalone contemporary romance by Lexi Ryan is live!!

wrapped_amazon.jpg

The rumors are true. I’m a hot mess with an awful track record at love. Single mom. Down on her luck. Yeah, I’m bad news.

If the hardest part of moving back home to Jackson Harbor was going to be people talking, I’d be fine. I’ve kept my chin up through worse than their decade-old gossip.

I was wrong. The hardest part is resisting my boss. Brayden Jackson is the very picture of tall, dark, and handsome. And thanks to an ill-advised one-night stand we had seven months ago, I know exactly what I’m missing when I turn him down. Every. Single. Delicious. Inch.

But I have my son to care for and my job to keep, so I’ll keep on saying no.

Until my string of bad luck continues, and suddenly my precious four-year-old and I find ourselves with nowhere to live. At Christmas, no less. It’s for my son that I accept Brayden’s offer to stay at his place. One by one, my defenses are falling, as fast as I am. If Brayden was smart, he’d run, because it’s only a matter of time before he realizes he deserves better than what a girl like me can offer.

Unless, for once, my bad luck is leading me exactly where I need to be.
