Heaven

I was fourteen the first time I laid eyes on the smoking hot, silver-eyed, goalie. Damon Wolfe was the most gorgeous boy I’d ever seen. All it took was one glance, one sentence and my heart was his. But I was too young and he was too broken.

Seven years later, he’s the biggest off the ice player in the NHL and I’m his virginal best friend.

Of course, I have the perfect solution to that particular problem, but Damon keeps on refusing to be the one to vanquish my chastity. He claims he doesn’t want to ruin our friendship, that he’s not good enough for me. Yet, somehow his eyes say something different whenever he looks at me.

Just one night, that’s all I’m asking.

What’s the worst that can happen?

Wolfe

I was mesmerized by Heaven Andersen the first time I looked into her sparkling turquoise eyes. She was a teenage kid with a mouth full of braces and bruised knees, but she was the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen—like a fairy-tale princess. With one look, she sent all my inner demons running. But she was just a kid and I was too damaged.

Seven years later, she’s my best friend. My best friend with a single-minded mission—to get laid.

She wants me to take her virginity and teach her about sex. But she’s an off-limits, flawless diamond girl, and so far out of the realm of anything my blackened heart is looking for or deserves it’s laughable.

So, how come I’m not laughing? How come my best friend is the first thing I think about in the morning and last thing I think about at night? More importantly, what am I going to do to protect her—from me?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3.5 Stars

Cross Crease had a lot of potential… but it ultimately fell flat for me. I didn’t like the jumping around in timelines; it didn’t flow seamlessly from last to present. I hated that Haven just sat around waiting for D while he slept his way through half the hockey fans in the world. And his complete turnaround when it came to his feelings for her came out of nowhere. I felt like a chapter was missing from his POV there. And even once they got together, there was an incident that I think they both could have handled better.

If you like a lot of sex, once D gives in and takes Haven’s V-card, there is lots of it. Unfortunately for me, I felt there was little else holding these two together.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Author Bio:

As a lover of the northeast US, my husband and I moved to the Poconos several years ago to open a Chiropractic Clinic. Four children and a menagerie of animals later, I have finally found time to fulfill my lifelong dream of writing novels. A dreamer at heart, romance is—of course—the genre I spend most of my time writing and reading into the wee hours of the morning. However, if it’s a good book, any genre can keep me immersed in the story for hours.

When I’m not juggling work responsibilities and writing, I enjoy baking, knitting, traveling, hiking the beautiful hills and woods around my home and spending time with my family.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 51 Bad Dates, by M.M. Clem

Title: 51 Bad Dates
Author: M.M. Clem
Genre: NA Romantic Comedy
Release Date: October 4, 2019

Red Hatter Book Blog – “51 Bad Dates is the book you need to get you out of any sort of funk. It’s absolutely hilarious, sweet, swoony, and witty. I adored the style of writing just as much as I adored Wren and Wilder!”

Beyond the Covers Blog – “51 Bad Dates by m.m. clem is a quirky, delightful, lighthearted story about how to and not to find love.”

Goodreads Review – “This was such a fun read! I loved all the crazy dates and characters she meets along the way. Highly recommended 💜”

At twenty-five, Wren Cooper knows exactly what she wants: a job writing for a successful blog, to work with her best friend, and to snag the hottie she’s crushed on since she was a teen.

The problem? He’s her boss.

Being the city’s most eligible bachelor and CEO of the wildly popular blog, OurGen, shouldn’t be that hard for Wilder Owens. When a sexy, smart-mouthed young woman from his past accepts a role at his firm, he discovers being the boss isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

There’s no denying the chemistry between Wilder and Wren. If only Wilder could get past his own self-imposed “no dating employees” rule and Wren could relax and finally admit to her feelings after all this time. Can they stop arguing long enough to see what’s right in front of them?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

As far as workplace romances go, 51 Bad Dates is a fun and quirky one. And their names! Wren and Wilder?!? Love it!

Wren has always had a crush on Wilder, her bestie’s brother’s best bud. Now that they are grown up, Wilder is the head of a major blog and Wren finagles herself a job. He has a strict no-dating-the-employees rule, and she’s still reluctant to admit that she likes him. But Wren’s assignment to go on one date a week for a year and blog about it just may force them both to admit to what is right in front of them.

The relationship didn’t sizzle for me as much as I would have liked it too, but Wren and Wilder were likable enough characters that the story captured my attention.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

m.m. clem lives in a small town in the heart of Indiana with her husband, 3 bad ass kids, and her dog Leela. She spends most of her time hauling said bad ass kids to dance practices, band practices, and club meetings. When she’s not being a slave to everyone else’s schedule, you can find her sleeping, binging on Netflix, and losing hours of her life on social media.

m.m. is addicted to iced tea and has the mouth of a well-educated sailor. She also has a huge empathetic heart. She’s quirky and has a strange/dry sense of humor too. Sarcasm is definitely her second language.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Single In Sitka, by Katy Regnery

** This will be a full length novel

A single Dad. A personal ad. What could possibly go wrong?

When Seattle journalist, Amanda McKendrick, pitches a new story about the increase of bear attacks in Sitka, her newspaper sends her north for two weeks. While there, she answers the personal ad of single dad, Luke Kingston, looking for a little no-strings-attached fun to pass the time.

But the sweet, widowered father of three—who just happens to be a smokin’ hot state trooper—turns out to be a lot more than Amanda bargained for. As the days go by, she wonders if it’ll be possible to return to Seattle without leaving her heart behind.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Single In Sitka is a great start to a new series featuring hunky Alaskan men! This debut book in the series is about widower Luke and the big-city reporter who captures his heart.

Luke has no clue that his sister placed an ad in Odds Are Good magazine, which targets women in the lower states looking for an Alaskan mountain man. Luke’s ad captures the eye of Seattle journalist Amanda, and before she knows it, some made-up story about bear attacks in Stika, Alaska, has Amanda headed up north to cover the story. And why she’s at it, why not meet up with the single dad/police officer? Their first meeting, however, is anything but romantic, so it’s quite funny when they go on their blind date and find each other at the restaurant.

Their relationship starts out as no-strings-attached while she’s in town on assignment, but they both feel a connection that is too hard to deny. While KR does a nice job of working in the way his kids feel about dad dating again, miscommunication/avoidance on the part of Amanda and Luke could have saved them both some heartache in the beginning when she first went back to Seattle. But that did prompt a lot of soul-searching on both their parts as to how they could stay together and highlight their different lifestyles and the concessions that they’d both have to make in order share their lives together.

I would have loved to have read the conversation when Amanda tells Luke that the story about the bears was kind of made up after she saw his single ad. The whole situation about the bear attacks that led Amanda up to Alaska in the first place was seemingly dropped, and I wished that there was more of an explanation there.

Overall, Single In Sitka was an enjoyable read, well-written, with good chemistry between the main characters, three adorable children and a HEA that will put a smile on your face. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

VIRAL by T. Gephart

Available Now!

Synopsis:

White Trash Circus will be taking an extended break and won’t be playing any time in the foreseeable future. Please lodge all your complaints to my guitarist—and my ex best friend—who I found inside the girlfriend I’ve had since high school. I will pull the freaking knife from my back and continue—without either of them—when the time is right. With enough hate and anger coursing through my veins to keep me in therapy for life, I’m going to save my cash and let the music heal me. Prepare all your bleeding hearts to be tormented with the most righteous, heavy and cataclysmic tunes to ever come out of me. So there’s that to look forward to. Thank you for all the support over the years, the gigs, the love and most of all memories. Don’t trust anyone and stay metal—Vaughan.

PS. Connor, you left your guitar and rig at my house so I took the liberty of relocating it to my front lawn. I might have dropped it on the way out the door. In your own words, brother, “Sometimes stuff just happens.”

PPS. Our drummer spontaneously combusted and is no longer with us.

WhiteTrashMegaFan- Whoa! Is this real?

VaughanLover4Eva – I love you Vaughan, you were too good for her anyway. I want to have your babies.

HeavyBrad69– So rock and roll!! Can’t wait for the new stuff, it’s going to be metal AF!

Nico – Ummm, Vaughan, what about me?

LicksNStick – LOL awks

White Trash Circus – No one cares about the bass player, Nico.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

He’s a fallen rockstar. She may be his salvation.

The worst day of Vaughan’s life ends up changing his life around when a social media post about his bandmate sleeping with his girlfriend goes viral. It catches the eye of music exec Gillian, who convinces her dad (one of the most powerful music execs) to take a chance on Vaughan. When THAT opportunity goes even worse, Gillian takes matters into her own hands and recreates Vaughan into something the music world never saw coming.

As they go about trying to relaunch his career, while sharing his small Pittsburgh apartment, Gillian and Vaughan can’t deny the sexual chemistry between them. And it’s explosive! At first they just use each other for some release, but it’s not long before messy feelings get involved. But she’s got something to prove to the world and her father — that she’s just as good as any other agent — and will the world think Vaughan’s comeback was all the result of sleeping his way to a new record deal?

It’s an interesting dynamic between them, as they juggle their professional and personal relationships. Gillian is so buttoned up and icy all the time, but Vaughan manages to get her to relax, have fun… and even fall in love. But is it enough?

Well, the book ends on a nice HEA, so yeah, it’s enough! I really hope that Viral was the start of a new series, because I need Nico/Emily to have a story of their own, and I’m really interested to see what kind of girl make the Christian twins fall to their knees!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Dark King, by Kelsie Rae

Dark King (Advantage Play – Book 2)

Release Date: October 7, 2019

Cover Design: Sly Fox

Synopsis

Rule #5: Don’t allow distractions. They’ll only break you.

In the blink of an eye, Kingston Romano’s entire world has fallen apart. His sister is in the hands of a rival mafia family, and his only hope of getting her back is by making a wager that includes the mysterious Acely Mezzerich.

Unfortunately for King, his feelings for Ace only escalate the longer he’s around her, muddling his conscience as well as his arrangement with the enemy. And if has any hope of saving his sister and keeping Ace, he needs to execute it perfectly.
As the pieces start to fall, he’ll have to learn who he can trust and who needs to be eliminated before it’s too late.

Goodreads

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Dark King picks up right where Wild Card left off. We get more of the story from King’s point of view, but there are still alot of unanswered questions about his background and relationship with Ace.

Again, Kelsie Rae delivers a great book that is wildly different — darker, more intense — than her light and saccharine Signature Sweethearts series. But there is more to come from this series, and I don’t know that I am invested enough to find out what happens next in the subsequent books. Dark romances just aren’t my jam. KR has put together a great story with lots of twists and turns, but I think I’ll just wait for the next Sweetheart.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Woah! I don’t even know how to put into words my feelings about this book! Perfect Strangers was NOT the vacation fling romance I was expecting between James and Olivia. This story is full of so many twists and turns, and even after one secret was revealed and I was sure I knew where the book was going, a second secret sent the story in another direction. But the third revelation is what really blew me away!

Don’t try to read reviews that dive into the romance between Olivia and James. Just know that it’s magical, it’s intense, it draws a grieving mother out of the darkness — and ends on a high note that I never saw coming!

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3.5 Stars

This was a fast-paced novel, on the sweet side, about a woman trying to piece her life back together after a tragic accident and the handsome colleague trying to break down her walls. I thought Beverly was beating herself up over something that wasn’t that big of a deal, but I liked Gavin’s protective nature.

I just didn’t click with these two as a romantic couple, however, so I wasn’t really invested in their story. And I didn’t know that the book was the first installment in a series and would end on a cliffhanger. I don’t know that I’m intrigued enough to read the next book.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Author Bio:

Ashlynn Cubbison is a goal-oriented, driven woman, who owns and operates four companies with her husband. They have two beautiful sons together, and although her life is chaotic, fun, full of love and never the same each day, somehow she finds room for writing as well.

Growing up Ashlynn struggled with reading. Then, in her sophomore year of high school, a small seed was planted. After acing a literary test, her teacher looked her square in the eye and said “you’ve been selling yourself short all year. I wonder what you could achieve with some effort.” After delving deeper into books, she discovered Pride and Prejudice, and has been an obsessive reader ever since.

Eventually her love of books translated into writing. She hopes to inspire others, especially children, to find their passion as she did.

He was only supposed to make my ex jealous…not make me fall in love with him.

When I discovered that my boyfriend had cheated on me with his assistant, and then left me for her, my friends and I devised a plan—to make him pay.It was simple.

It was foolproof.

Or so I thought.

Corbin Fields was my best friend’s older brother; he was also part of my revenge plan. It was brilliant…until the unexpected happened.

I was supposed to be getting over my ex…

Not getting under my best friend’s brother.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

The UnEXpected Plan is a feel-good, best friend’s brother romance. Brooke ropes in her best friend’s reluctant brother, Corbin, for some help in getting revenge on her ex, who dumped her for his assistant. Since Corbin works with both the ex, Chase, and the new girlfriend, it should be easy peasy. But the more time Corbin spends with Brooke, the less interested he is in hitting on the other woman. He’s always been a workaholic, but Brooke opens up his eyes to the life he’s not living.

I appreciated that Brooke and Corbin never had a thing for each other until now, even though they’ve known each other forever. They both kind of suddenly fall, rather than one having been harboring a secret crush. And it was refreshing to take that journey with both of them. As different as their childhoods were — he lived a life of luxury, she grew up with a single mom — both of them grappled with loneliness. The scene where she tells him how much he comforted her as a kid when Nellie broke her arm, and then remembered that feeling when her mother died, had me in tears.

Corbin and Brooke bond over a revenge plan and their love of Marvel movies, and they perfectly balance the other out in every way. He supports her in a way that her ex never did, and she shows him that there’s more to life outside of his office.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

She is now a mother of three girls, leaving her husband as the only man in a house full of females. The decision to publish her first book was made as a way of showing her children to go after whatever it is they want to. Love what you do and do it well. And to teach them what it means to overcome their fears.

Excerpt

“You can call me Eli.”

She swallows hard. “I don’t actually think I can.”

“Why not?” I force my gaze away from her mouth.

The second our eyes meet, she averts her attention to her feet. “Because you’re half of the Hathaway-Hawkins duo.”

This is a new one to me. “I’m divorced.”

“I know. I …” She makes an attempt to look at me, but her attention shifts to my temple then maybe my ear. “I mean you’re a brilliant doctor, and Dr. Hathaway is too—so brilliant. God, she’s just phenomenal. Like there are no words. But still … you change the lives of young children. You save them. You’re what every young person entering the medical field can only dream of becoming. You’ve earned the title. I can’t call you by your name. It’s too personal. I don’t know … almost intimate.”

She has Julie on a really high pedestal. Me? Down a few pegs. Sounds about right for my life at the moment. It’s not that Julie doesn’t deserve to be on the pedestal. No matter how much I hate her, I still love her. And her skills as a pediatric plastic surgeon are unmatched. She deserves Dorothy’s admiration.

But I don’t want to talk about medicine, accolades, and saving lives. I know … I know … how terrible of me. Sorry, but I need something for myself. Something personal and maybe a little selfish.

Definitely intimate.

“I don’t need a babysitter for Roman.”

She jerks her head back, giving me her full attention, eyes squinted, gaze locked to mine. “What?”

I trap my top lip between my teeth, drowning in coconuts as my heart races, sending ample blood to all regions of my body. God … I just want—need—to kiss her.

“Oh jeez …” She shakes her head, closing her eyes for a breath. “You invited me to dinner to … flirt.” Her eyes open to their widest point.

A tiny laugh escapes me. I can’t help it. Everything about this woman feels like a rebirth. “I invited you to dinner because Roman really likes you. And I just can’t thank you enough for all that you’ve done for him. You’re so generous.”

Gah! I suck at this!

What is my problem? Yes. The answer is yes! Yes, Dorothy, I invited you over to flirt, maybe even kiss. And other things …

“Oh.” She takes a step backward, stumbling a bit as the front door catches her, and more embarrassment tints her cheeks. “Well, now I feel stupid. Yes, of course you invited me here because Roman likes me. Duh. Now I just look like an idiot for assuming you wanted to flirt with me. And really, no need to thank me. My generosity is selfish. It makes me feel good to do nice things. That’s all. And really, you’ve bought me coffee and made me dinner again. It’s like I should be thanking you again. But that’s probably weird. So … I’ll just go now.”

Really, really weird shit goes through my mind as she fidgets. Dr. Hawkins is nowhere to be found. Neither is Roman’s dad. Raging-puberty-hormones Eli Hawkins invades my head—both of them really. And I just want to kiss Dorothy. That’s the PG version of my thoughts. Most of them are R-rated. Worse than the R-rating. All I can think about are the ways Dorothy and I can be generous with each other, leading to never-ending thank-you’s that don’t involve stationary, replacement scrubs, superhero capes, pasta dinners, lunch boxes … or clothing.

“Should we call it even? No more thank-you’s,” I suggest.

“Okay.” She lifts her gaze, eyes going a little cross-eyed like her focus is centered on the bridge of my nose.

“Okay.” I release a slow breath, but it does very little to relax all of my body. “Can I ask your age?” I’m not sure why I’ve been so chicken about asking her age. I think it worries me that she’s too young, and I’ll feel like a dirty old man having really inappropriate thoughts about her.

“I’m thirty. Why?”

“You just look young.”

“I wear massive amounts of sunscreen.”

I nod slowly.

Just kiss her, you big chicken!

What if she doesn’t want to be kissed by me? Or flirt with me? I internally laugh at the memory of her comment and at myself for being just as awkward. Why does something so simple have to be so complicated?

“I have a forty-five-minute drive home.”

And school the next day. Where is my head?

Oh, that’s right …

“Of course. I’m sorry. I lost track of time.”

“Okay.” She smiles.

I love her okay’s. They feel like more than the average okay.

“I’ll walk you out.”

“Have you not closed all of your rings?” She holds up her wrist, signaling to her watch.

I chuckle. “All rings were closed hours ago.”

“We could track each other. Share our rings. Did you know that?”

Rings. Kisses. Trips to the on-call room for sex.

For the love of God … get your shit together, Elijah!

“Never mind. That’s weird.” She shakes her head, rolling her eyes at herself just before opening the door and scurrying ten steps ahead of me. Her pace gains momentum with the hill of my driveway.

My long strides catch up to her at the bottom of it. She looks both ways and bolts across the street to her car, clicks the locks, and opens her door.

“Goodnight!”

“Dorothy Mayhem … you’re killing me.”

She turns just before ducking into the driver’s seat.

“What do you mean?”

Resting my hands on my hips, I drop my chin in defeat and stare at my untied gray canvas shoes. “What if I did ask you to dinner tonight to … flirt?” I glance up, digging my teeth into my bottom lip on a slight cringe.

Her body remains stoic as her eyes shift from side to side, like she’s been caught on a hidden camera. “Well … then I wore the wrong outfit.” She refuses to look me in the eye.

“I think you look amazing.”

“Yes. But this is a playdate outfit. Maybe even one I’d wear to apply for a babysitter position. It’s fun, but wholesome. Practical and safe.”

I just want to spend one day in her head. Everything about her fascinates the hell out of me. The curiosity gives me such a high.

“Tell me about your flirting outfit.”

“Well …” She clears her throat, keeping her focus on the big hill leading out of my development. And of course … her cheeks are perfectly flushed as she talks to the wind. “Since Romeo was involved, I would have chosen my red dress with white stripes. It hits just below my knees, but it’s strapless. And I would have worn my blue cardigan with it and matching blue wedge sandals with straps that tie around my ankles. Flirty … but appropriate for young eyes.”

“And if Roman wouldn’t have been here tonight?” I stare at the side of her head, wondering if she’ll look at me again before driving home.

She narrows her eyes. “I would have taken off the cardigan after you invited me into your house.”

The picture she paints in my head does all kinds of wicked things to me. Why imagining her in a striped strapless dress has such a physical effect on me is a mystery. It’s not like she suggested showing up wearing nothing but high heels and a trench coat. Dorothy Mayhem possesses her own brand of seduction, and I’m completely entangled in every part of it.

“And in this scenario, would you have kissed me after I walked you to your car?”

She turns completely red. I feel certain even her toes hidden in those blue shoes have to be red. “You’re making fun of me.”

Her comment knocks me back a good ten steps, even if my body remains right next to her. Why would she say that?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Dorothy Mayhem. What a perfect name for this quirky, chaotic character! I have never read a book with a heroine like her before. And not just because she has Aspbergers. She is so selfless and honest and kind. Even to the point where she ends things with Doctor Hottie Eli for the sake of his son.

I had some issues with Eli, however. I didn’t feel him falling in love with Dorothy. Honestly, when he realized he was in love with her, I went “huh. Didn’t see that coming.” I felt like I was being told rather than shown, which is a big pet peeve for me. And if he was so in love with her — and how he made his life “okay” rather than “fine,” why didn’t he fight harder? He knew Dorothy had social issues because of her autism. I felt like he could have spelled things out more clearly, like she’d asked him to time and time again, and saved them both heartache. And the twist with his ex wife seemed to come out of nowhere.

Despite my feelings about Eli, I did like Dorothy and Eli together. And little Roman was adorable! I love how this modern family all came together at the end, and Dorothy felt like she finally found someone who could love her and allow her to just be her — and that was perfectly adequate.

Blurb:
Scene Stealer (noun) (scene-steal•er | \ ˈsēn-ˌstē-lər): an actor who attracts attention when another is intended to be the center of attention.

The glow of fame only casts shadows. The name Devyn Dane was once lit up amongst the stars. Everyone worshiped me. But now, I’m on the edge of darkness. No one warned me about the fall. My crash was lethal. These days I’m nothing more than a forgotten child-star with a tainted reputation.

Redemption is what I need. When a chance is handed to me, I vow not to blow it—I can’t. This could launch me back to stardom. But nothing is given freely in Hollywood. Everything comes with a price. This time, mine is a bombshell waitress battling insecurities deep enough to rival even my own.

The resilient Larsen is a mystery I can’t wait to unravel. Her brokenness makes me feel not so alone. But together, we are a complete mess that should never work. I know it, Hollywood knows it, and someone is Hell-bent on making sure we don’t beat the odds.

I truly believed she was my ally. An added boost on my rise back to fame. But the shine of Hollywood masks many things. She broke my focus, pulling me away from the most important goal.

That’s the thing with a scene stealer – you never see them coming.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

The Scene Stealer is a wonderful story of two broken and scarred people who find hope and healing in each other. Devyn is fallen Hollywood star trying to climb out of the career he ruined when his old insecurities (courtesy of his horrible parents) send him running away from it all. He finds himself in the middle of small-town Colorado, where he’s completely taken by a diner waitress named Larsen. Where Devyn’s scars are emotional ones, Larsen is physically scarred from a horrible car accident.

Knowing that he’s just passing through, Devyn and Larsen agree to be just friends — but their souls call to one another in a way that forever change both of their lives. But will Devyn’s Hollywood lifestyle break the bond between them, or have they truly found the missing puzzle piece to their hearts?

I loved how raw and vulnerable Devyn was with Larsen; I wish there had been a bit more about his childhood/parents to flesh out his backstory. But the healing that they both allow the other to do — both healing themselves and the other — was magnificent. His cousin/assistant Tessa was a great supporting character for both Larsen and Devyn, and I would love to see her get a story of her own. Even Elena — who I was sure was behind all of the bad press — turned out to be not so bad in the end of the book, and I’d love to see her find a HEA.

If you love a celebrity/Plain Jane romance like I do, The Scene Stealer will steal your heart. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
