Sunny Shelly’s Review: Forged In The Fire by A.L. Jackson

Forged in the Fire by A.L. Jackson is now live!
It was a terrible idea to agree to protect my enemy’s sister…
The second she stepped out of her brother’s car, I knew she was a wildfire.
Spitting mad and so stunning she stole my breath.
She thinks her brother made a deal with the devil, and by working for me, she’s paying off his debt.

She doesn’t know the real reason she’s here.
Doesn’t know the danger that surrounds her.
Soon, she realizes there is something sinister lurking in the shadows.

She hates me for keeping her in the dark.
I want to hate her back, but with every sassy thing that fires from her mouth, she gets deeper under my skin.
With each heated glance, I feel myself losing control.
And when I crawl into bed with her, I combust.

I know better than thinking I can keep her. My life is nothing but secrets and peril.
But as outside threats begin to infiltrate, I’ll do anything to keep the oath I made to keep her safe.
Even expose her to the monster that I am…

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I will forever love spinoff series when I get to know a minor character from an author’s previous books better! Forged In The Fire is the first book in AL Jackson’s Crimson Crows series, featuring Silas, the president of the motorcycle club/secret society. He briefly appeared in Amy’s Moonlit Ridge series (another fantastic series!), so I was very much looking forward to getting to know him better. And his story with Brinley was a doozy.

The tension between Silas and Brinley is electric right from the start. This book is slow-burn enemies-to-lovers in the very best way. When Brinley’s brother drops her off at Silas’s house, she incorrectly assumes he’s the victim in whatever went down between the men, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Through chapters told in the past and the present, we get the backstories to both characters, and then, through several twists and turns, the reader learns that these characters are connected in a way neither of them expected.

I read this book alongside listening to Desiree Ketchum and Connor Crais narrating the story. There’s a reason why those two voice actors are so prolific, because they nailed the nuances of these characters.

Amy always does a fantastic job of weaving heartbreak and suspense into her stories, so I expected nothing less from Forged in the Fire — and she delivered! I can’t wait to see what comes next with the Crimson Crows band of brothers!
