BLURB

Some loves are like the stars, brilliant for a time, but doomed to burn out in the end.

London Voss was the girl who couldn’t wait to get out of town, and that’s exactly what she did. At 18, she left behind her small-town coastal life, her overprotective family, and the boy who loved her too much to stand in the way of her dreams. But seven years later, her big city plans of dancing for The New York City Ballet have fallen apart, and having exhausted all other options, she’s forced to return home.

Wren Cove has changed a lot in her absence. The people. The places. And most notably, Penn Kade. The reckless boy she left behind is now the responsible, stone-faced man running his late father’s fishing company. He’s reliable, successful, and even more handsome than she remembered.

He’s also not exactly thrilled to see her again.

When London takes a temp job as his company’s bookkeeper to make ends meet, she and Penn are forced to put aside their differences and try to work together. But some things are simply easier said than done. Especially when old feelings start to resurface…

The Distance Between Stars is a standalone, small town, second chance romance.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I’ve read a couple of Melissa Toppen books over the years; one I really loved, and one was so-so. The Distance Between Stars is another check in the loved-it column!

Seven years after London moved to NYC to chase her dream of being a professional dancer, she’s moved back home to regroup after an accident ended her career. The only job she can get in her small coastal town is working at the shipyard for her heartbroken, angry ex-boyfriend, Penn. Who has been casually sleeping with London’s nemesis, Cat.

London and Penn are both hanging on to some hurt feelings. Their breakup left both of them hurt (he felt like he was being left behind; she was hurt that he didn’t make an effort to join her), and those feelings festered and created a hostile work environment. Once Cat is out of the way, London and Penn hash out their past in a long-overdue conversation and eventually admit that they never stopped loving one another. But Penn is a prize, and Cat had no intentions of letting him go that easily….

London and Penn’s HEA was so hard-fought, and the payoff was so worth it. I loved the emotional journey these two went on as they dealt with their past and present. The heartbreak, the grief, the joy, the hesitation…. I loved how MT paced this story, and how the ups and downs all played out.

I really hope this is the start of a series because I would love to see what happens between Alec and Josie! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
