Afternoon Delight was an absolute delight! It is the second book in Piper Rayne’s Charity Case series, and tells the story of Chelsea and her ex-husband, Dean.
The last person that Chelsea is expecting to see when she walks into the office of the tax attorney doing pro bono work for the foundation she works for is her ex-husband! This story starts off with a bang, and just keeps on going! Little by little, we learn what led to Chelsea and Dean’s split, how his battle with addiction led to the destruction of their short marriage, and how she struggled to put herself back together again. She never imagined that she’d cross paths with her ex again, but it’s immediately clear that there are plenty of unresolved feelings between the two of them.
While Chelsea initially agrees to meet Dean if only to get some closure, the connection between them still is undeniable. And Dean is determined to win her back. Once we get the full picture of how far he fell, and how far he climbed back up to be the man that Chelsea deserved…. well, my heart skipped a beat! Seeing how these two come together again — battling her family and her sour mother, especially! — was a true testament to true love lasting forever.
