Title: After I Was His

Series: Wounded Hearts #2

Author: Amelia Wilde
Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance

Release Date: June 5, 2018

Blurb
Amelia Wilde presents the spellbinding story of a
warrior’s hidden wound and a love that could heal him…or destroy him.
Wes Sullivan is
everything I loathe in a man.
Too strong. Too
controlling. Too serious.
He left the Army,
but that Army attitude won’t leave him.
And me? My spirit is
so free that no man can contain me.
Screw rules. Screw
routines. Maintain that element of surprise.
My only job is to
get him to the church on time for a wedding.
Kissing him isn’t
part of the deal.
Neither is falling
for those lightning eyes, for that rock-hard body.
But beneath the
bravado is a crack in his armor.
And his smile is a
crack in mine.
With every kiss,
we’re flirting with disaster.
This could end in
heartbreak.
But you know what
they say…
There’s only one way
to find out.

 Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

I’ve been reading Amelia Wilde’s books for a few years now, and After I Was His is a story unlike any of her billionaire romances. As enjoyable as those books are — and they are! — they are kind of fluffier in comparison to After I Was His, simply for the fact that Wes is a former soldier suffering from PTSD. And as much as he tries to convince himself that it doesn’t affect him, or that his suffering isn’t important compared to Dayton’s (from Before She Was Mine), it impacts every moment of his day.

Wes and Whitney first meet at the wedding of his sister, Summer, and Dayton. Wes has gone missing, and Whitney is tasked with finding him and getting him to the ceremony. In a great meet-cute, she just barges on in when he slams the door in her face, and then kisses him — a kiss which neither of them will forget. A few weeks later, Wes needs a place to stay, and Whitney needs a roommate, and so begins the simmering sexual tension between them. They are barely cordial to one another, but as it always does, that all changes!

The real issues for this couple stem from Wes’ overprotectiveness and reluctance to deal with his PTSD. Eventually, it drives a wedge between the two of them, but he realizes that Whitney is worth fighting for — fighting his demons for.

After I Was His is a beautiful story of love, hope, and confronting your past to ensure a wonderful future. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
