Another fantastic addition to Kennedy Fox’s Love in Isolation series! I adored grumpy Finn and sunny Oakley in The Fall of Us and shipped them so hard! From the moment they meet — and it does NOT go well! — to seeing how they begin to develop feelings for one another and eventually fall in love, I loved everything about this story.

Heartbreak has hardened Finn’s heart and has left him cynical and grumpy. His world is turned upside down when vibrant, energetic Oakley arrives at his family’s inn to do a painting. And while they start off pretty much detesting one another, there is something about Oakley that does funny things to Finn’s heart and makes it start beating once again. The banter between these two is so on-point, and this story checks all the boxes to make it funny, witty, swoony, and romantic!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

The Girl in the Front Row is so much more than a rockstar romance. It is a heartfelt story of learning how to love and accept yourself, finding a reason to fight through the darkness of depression, and an inside look at what it’s like to live life with an invisible disability.

Lennon and Dylan’s story starts off with heated passion and lust when a superfan has a one-night stand with the rock god she’s been obsessed with since she was a kid. (He is 10 years older than her.) But it evolves into a fantastic, sweeping kind of epic romance. This brilliant story is full of angst, full of push and pull, involves a love triangle and a bit of emotional cheating, and so much vulnerability.

Having been born with a rare eye condition that made her legally blind, Lennon has always lived her life in a cloud of darkness. But Dylan’s amputation happened when he was 35, and he has been struggling to figure out how to deal with that trauma and the blow it gave to his fragile ego. Who is he, Dylan Pierce, without his rockstar swagger? Will the sold-out crowds come back if he can’t give them the energetic performances that he used to? Will he ever be able to write another song again, having been changed so dramatically on so many levels?

Dylan finds his muse in Lennon, and while it’s fun at first to be dating her celebrity crush, he’s not exactly a constant in her life. This story is far from one full of rainbows and unicorns, and it is a hard-earned happily ever after for this couple. Because they go through A LOT to be together. There is a ton of growing up that Dylan does in this book, and Lennon goes through a metamorphosis of her own as she fights for independence and confidence after having lived her life completely dependent on those around her.

I’m trying to not give many details away, because this story truly is inspirational, and one of a kind. Just read it. Yes, it’s a story about an average girl who falls in love with her celebrity crush, and he even loves her back. But The Girl in the Front Row is so much more than that. It is really eye-opening when it comes to the struggles of people with disabilities, and I am so in awe of how Kelsey Kingsley for pouring her heart and soul into this story, drawing upon her own experiences to do so.

Because the moment I stepped foot back into Thorne Ridge, this Beauty was mine.

She just doesn’t know it yet.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Mountain Beauty is a super steamy reimagining of Beauty & The Beast. Short enough to binge read, and sexy enough to keep your attention as Jett and Honor navigate an engagement of convenience, family drama, and a growing attraction between them.

Beauty & The Beast is my favorite Disney princess movie, and I loved all the correlations in this book. Honor has to marry Jett to save her destitute family. Her one brother is the Gaston-type villain of this story… Jett builds her a library… she finds the sweet soul behind the man everyone calls The Beast… This story had lots of angry heat and a hero with a really dirty mouth!

Blurb:

From USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Yarros comes a small town, single parent romance.

Nine years ago, Weston Madigan saved me. I came to Colorado penniless, heartbroken, and pregnant, searching for a fresh start. Weston gave me a job at his family’s resort, then left the next day and never returned, not even to visit.

Then I stumble in on Weston cooking breakfast shirtless—gloriously, inappropriately shirtless—in the shared kitchen of my duplex in employee housing. Given the shock on both our faces, he wasn’t expecting a roommate either, let alone two.

The growly pilot is only home to start his family’s new heli-skiing operation. I can handle being his temporary roommate, right? Chemistry and attraction aren’t impossible to ignore when you agree on ground rules. Besides, even with those gorgeous, brooding brown eyes, the guy is a walking thundercloud…until my daughter, Sutton, makes him laugh and he smiles at me. Then everything changes. Cue inconvenient heart flip.

This is only temporary.

I can’t fall for Weston.

Will. Not. Fall. For. Weston.

But rules go out the window when you’re a little too close.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

This story hit all the right notes for a forced proximity/roommates romance. Callie and Weston tried to stick to the rules they set forth as roommates and her being a single mom, but it wasn’t long before they began breaking every one of them.

Weston is such a great grumpy hero! Especially since being around Callie and her daughter being him so much happiness. I adored the friendship that he and Sutton developed all on their own, and how she knew they were an item when he and Callie thought they were being so slick!

Weston has a lot of family baggage, and that all comes into play nicely. Callie has issues with her parents as well, and i loved that she didn’t judge Weston for not forgiving his dad or brother, but just silently supported him in how he felt he needed to handle things.

Alas, this couple eventually split up because Weston doesn’t think he’s capable of love, when the truth is he was everything Callie and Sutton needed. And once he realizes how miserable he is without his girls… we’ll, a big grand gesture or two solves that problem!

I only read this book in the Madigan Mountain series, and it is a standalone. But I am really curious about Reed and Crew so I will definitely check out the other two books!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: The Troubles With Heartbreak by Brittany Taylor

The Trouble with Heartbreak by Brittany Taylor
Release Date: October 14th

Trouble #1:
Levi Hawkins. Always….

Levi Hawkins has been trouble since the first time I saw him through the lens of my camera our senior year of high school.

He was the star quarterback.
I was the yearbook photographer.

Although Levi’s hatred for me was no secret, I spent the entire school year fighting my feelings for him, counting down to the day of graduation.

When that day finally came, I foolishly thought I’d seen the last of him. Until five years later, when he walked into the same newspaper I worked for. Only now, he was no longer a football star. He’s the paper’s newest reporter.

Disguised by a grand opening of a hotel on the shores of South Padre Island, Levi dragged me on an assignment. His college football reunion.

But just when I thought he’d roped me in enough trouble, he asked for one more favor.

Pretend to be his fiancé… for the entire reunion.

I knew he had dragged me along to get a story, but it wasn’t long before I realized there was more written between the lines.

And then I remembered… Levi Hawkins has always been trouble.

*This is the final book in the Heartbreak Series.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

There’s a fine line between love and hate…. Cassidy and Levi’s story brings the Heartbreak series to an end. This one is a forced-proximity, fake engagement, enemies-to-lovers story with a lot of steam, loads of vulnerability from the hero, and some pretty heated barbs exchanged between Cassidy and Levi that are actually just covering up their true feelings for one another.

While I enjoyed this story very much, I didn’t think it had the punch that the first book in this series did. Once everything was all out on the table between Levi and Cassidy, I felt like I was expecting more for his reasons why he hated her. The way he used her as part of a revenge plot to one-up his college rival was crappy, but he did do some good groveling to win her back. Ultimately, Levi came around from a hero I didn’t really like much at the start, which is a testament to Brittany Taylor’s writing.

About RUNAWAY GROOMSMAN:

Hollywood screenwriter Sawyer Walsh knows a good love story when he sees it. But when it comes to real life romance, he’s a mess. That’s how he finds himself standing at the altar…as his ex-girlfriend ties the knot with his very famous best friend. The pressure, the resentment, the media coverage—it’s all too much—and before he knows exactly what he’s doing, he’s making a run for it, leaving a shocked congregation and flashing cameras in his wake.

Needing to lie low amid the media fallout, Sawyer lands in the charming town of Canoodle, California, where he crosses paths with Fallon Long, who runs the Canoodle Cove Cabins, a family-owned business and Sawyer’s new short-term residence. Overwhelmed with renovations and her long list of responsibilities, Fallon is struggling to make ends meet while attempting to bring the cabins back to their original glory. So when Sawyer arrives, she is grateful for the income, but immediately writes him off as just another vapid Hollywood hack, until he begins to prove her wrong at every turn.

As Fallon comes closer to saving the family business, an undeniable bond forms between her and the handsome screenwriter. But the pressures of her family obligations and Sawyer’s notoriety might prove to be too much for anyone to handle. Could Canoodle be the setting for a new romance—or is true love just a Hollywood cliché?

Samantha Brentmoor and Alastair Haynesbridge narrate RUNAWAY GROOMSMAN, and their performances are stunning! Don’t miss this audiobook sure to tickle your ears and heat you up today!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Slow-burn perfection! Runaway Groomsman is full of laughs and lots of heart, the yummy kind of story that you can just envision watching on “Lifemark” or “Movieflix.” (IYKYK!!)

Sawyer is a screenwriter who makes his living writing feel-good romcoms, but his life is more like a Greek tragedy lately. And when his ex-girlfriend (an actress) marries his ex-best friend (an actor), the dude has a meltdown of epic proportions. During the ceremony. At the altar. As his double-finger kiss-off becomes a viral gif, Sawyer ends up hiding out in the quirky mountain town of Canoodle to bury his head in the sand as he’s become a bit of a laughingstock back in Hollywood.

One of the first people Sawyer meets in Canoodle is Fallon — a former nurse with whom he had one horrible blind date a year ago. At the time, Sawyer was drowning in sadness and anger because his girlfriend cheated on him with his best friend, but all Fallon remembers from that date was what a jerk the guy was. And to make matters worse, Sawyer has zero recollection of who Fallon is when they first cross paths. Still, she takes pity on the drunk fool and lets him stay in one of the cabins at her grandfather’s crumbling resort.

But Fallon has a lot more to worry about than a guy she had one date with not remembering her. She’s the caretaker for her grandfather, Sully, who has Alzheimer’s, and she’s desperately trying to renovate the resort so she can continue her grandparents’ legacy. While Sawyer is hiding out and trying to come up with a new movie concept to save his career, he begins spending lots of time with Sully and unbeknownst to Fallon, begins doing renovations at the resort under her grandfather’s watchful eye. And the more time he spends “not being friends” with Fallon, the more Sawyer realizes he blew his chance with a fabulous girl… because she now has a boyfriend, Peter.

As Fallon and Sawyer become more than “not friends,” it’s clear that there is so much electricity between them. Fallon is broken up with Peter before anything happens between her and Sawyer, but you have to read through more than half of the book to get there! And because Sawyer doesn’t want to ruin the second chance he’s been given, he becomes the swooniest of book boyfriends as he courts Fallon. Along the way, Sawyer finds his muse again and discovers that the best thing that ever could have happened to him was running away from Hollywood.

There are so many wonderful Easter eggs sprinkled throughout this book that I loved as a long-time reader of Meghan Quinn’s. I loved all of the side characters, especially Fallon’s sarcastic BFF, Jazlyn. I know there is a story coming for Jaz and Sawyer’s brother, and I can’t wait to see how their romance unfolds! This book is a Montlake release and definitely does not have the spice level that MQ’s indie books like Royally Not Ready has, but it is a super sweet and heartfelt story about love, inner peace, acceptance, and family.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and voluntarily left a review.

“I need you to marry me.”

Jane Fox

My boss cannot be serious. The ridiculously handsome man I hate-to-crush on has just proposed I pretend to be his wife for a funeral. A funeral! Only, when he dangles a much-coveted position in exchange for my time, I can’t refuse. Who am I kidding, though? I seem to have a habit of not saying no to Mr. Wright.

Machlan Wright

Things spiral out of control the second we reach my small town. A place I swore I’d never return has suddenly become my inheritance. As in, I’ve inherited an entire town! Only, there’s one condition: my hot, top executive pretending to be my wife must marry me for real. What could possibly go wrong? <insert sarcasm>

+++

Join Jane and Mach as they road trip to a lovely mountain town where memories haunt and relationships build. And it takes (the restoration of) a village for this marriage of convenience to question the past and change the future.

L.B. Dunbar brings you a second standalone in Road Trips & Romance.

**Note, the Fox sisters are siblings of Garrett Fox from Wine&Dine, an original #sexysilverfox.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

I love LB Dunbar’s stories and her more mature characters. Merging Wright is book #2 in the Roadtrips & Romance series, and features Mae’s sister, Jane, as the heroine and her boss Machlan.

Jane thinks Mach is out of his mind when he asks her to go to his hometown with him for a funeral with him and pretend to be his wife. He dangles the promotion she’s been hoping for as a carrot, and Jane reluctantly says yes. Never mind the fact that Jane’s had feelings for Mach for quite some time and thinks that she must really be the crazy one for going through with this farce.

But Jane and Mach’s fake relationship soon turns into so much more in this heartfelt story. There are a lot of big emotions in this book, as both characters have muddy pasts that they need to work through in order to find their path together. Especially Mach, because going back to the town he swore he’d never step foot in again takes a toll on him emotionally. But as he repairs burned bridges from his past, he really becomes a different person. And as he begins to see himself in a different light as well, this serial dater realizes that the perfect mate for him has been on the other side of the office all along.

Don’t overlook Did Not Finish! In this witty, well-developed romance, Nicola Marsh somehow takes just about every single trope, mashes it all together, and spits out a wonderfully deep love story that is an appreciative nod to the romance genre. Axel and Mia are fabulous, relatable characters, and I was hooked on their story from the start.

Axel’s emotional pain and guilt were palpable at times. I thought that NM handled the delicate backstory with Axel’s sister, Paula, very well. His family situation is heartbreaking, as is Mia’s broken relationship with her mom. I was so happy to see these two work out their issues — and make the distance between them work.

I can’t wait for Rosie and Cole’s story next! I received a complimentary copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: The Secret Roommate by Sara Ney

Release Date: October 3

All I need is a place to hide for a few weeks.

The paparazzi were on my ass 24/7 and I needed a bit of breathing room—an escape from the madness—before the media frenzy begins.

Sure, I could have gone to a secluded cabin in the woods—but I didn’t want to be bored out of my mind. I’d seen enough wide open spaces as a kid from Texas to last me a lifetime.

So instead, I let my agent hook me up with a modest house in the burbs where we didn’t think anyone would find me hiding in plain sight.

I’d have a roommate; but supposedly, she was going to give me space. Stay out of my way and respect my boundaries. According to my agent, I wouldn’t hear a peep from her.

Wrong. He was wrong about everything and now my life was never going to be the same.

Man, I thought that Posey and Duke were going to kill each other with their prank wars before they ever got it on! The Secret Roommate was hilarious. Even though Duke was described as a giant a-hole, he was a squishy marshmallow of a giant when it came to Posey.

Football star Duke needs a place to hide out until news breaks about his trade in teams, and Eli and Molly (from The Make Out Artist) convince Molly’s former roommie, Posey, to let him stay with her for two weeks. Naturally, the first meeting does not go off without a hitch, setting these two off on the wrong foot. The pranks escalate from there, and even though Posey finds Duke to be a big doofus, she eventually sees a sweeter, softer side to the brute. And she finds his Texas twang irresistible!

This book is super cute. No major drama, just some stupid decisions that cause tension between them. It’s a feel-good romcom that will leave you with a smile on your face!

I pause in front of an unexpected door. Does this hotel room have another room?
I twist the deadbolt and try to open it, but it doesn’t budge. I jerk and shake it, then realize there is another latch that drops into the floor. I bend down and lift it.
The door opens to reveal — another door. But this one doesn’t have a knob. That’s odd.
This door rattles. I press my ear against the wood to listen.
Then suddenly, the door flies open, and I fall onto the floor on the other side!
My face smashes into orange carpet. It smells like an orange, too. I lift my head. “What in thunder?”
There’s a mandarin duvet on the bed. Orange walls, textured to look like the inside of a peel.
Then, right by my cheek, two feet.
Man feet. Square nails.
Pants, no cuffs. The hem lands exactly where it should, custom tailored.
I rise to my hands and knees, shaking off my fall as I lift my head. The pant legs are tapered and crisply ironed. The belt is Italian leather. The shirt is pale green, the cuffs rolled up to reveal strong, tan forearms.
The neck is unbuttoned.
Then I see his face.
Good Lord. He’s gorgeous and blue-eyed with sandy hair. He must be a model, comped a stay by the hotel. I’d comp him anything he asked for.
He stares at me with an odd expression of amusement. “Falling for me already?”
Worst opening line ever.
But yes, yes, I am.
Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars
Princess Lilli escapes the royal palace during a royal birth and heads undetected to New York, where she’s living a double life as a social media influencer, lusting after the guy staying in the hotel room next door, and having steamy sex with a masked dude at a charity ball. That pretty much sums up the first few chapters of Royal Escape, and Lilli and Jesse’s story just snowballs from there!

Lilli — as Ellie/Indigo Flame — has a pretty good thing going for a while in New York. She just gets to be an ordinary girl when she’s with Jesse, and she treasures the freedom. I loved that she was able to find her way around Manhattan and fend for herself, and wasn’t this damsel in distress. But eventually, Lilli is discovered by her Pickle in-laws, and her grand escape plan comes to an end when she’s dragged back home in front of mom and dad, aka the King and Queen. But will Lilli and Jesse get their happy ending?

There are a lot of sweet moments between Lilli and Jesse as they get to know one another, and this book was definitely steamier than the other books in the Pickleverse. It’s a lot of fun, a little campy, and captures the zeitgeist with an inside look at the life of a social media influencer. Royal Escape also brings in the cast of characters that we’ve gotten to know — and all of the antics that come along with them.
