Sunny Shelly’s Review: Because Of Her by Jewel E. Ann

Because of Her by Jewel E. Ann is now live!

“If sin weren’t pretty, it wouldn’t be so tempting.”

I was an accomplished music professor.

Happily single.

Perfectly content.

Now, I’m unemployed.

Pining for a dark, brooding guy named Jack who lives in a garage with a piano.

And I’m plotting to seduce a married man because his daughter is responsible for my nephew committing suicide.

I don’t know why teenage girls are so mean.

I don’t know why rich men cheat on their wives.

And I don’t know why Jack has serial killer vibes, even though he leaves me speechless every time he speaks.

All I know for sure is that I feel safe in a stranger’s arms and understood by someone I don’t understand.

“You should be a little scared of everyone because humans are unpredictable.”

How far will I go for revenge? More than that …

How far will he go to save me?

Because of Her is a gripping, emotional story of revenge, grief, family, love, and recovery. Fans who read and loved Jewel’s Jack & Jill series will love reading this book about… well, Jack… and see the guy finally meet his match.

I enjoyed the journey that both Frankie and Jack went out, how their friendship evolved and they found solace and security in one another. Jack is a morally gray hero, and I found him fascinating. I struggled with JEA’s choice to make Frankie’s chapters as 1st person and Jack’s chapters 3rd POV; it’s a personal preference of mine, and I found it a bit difficult to go back and forth.

However, this overall story was interesting. It’s darker and heavier than some of JEA’s other books that I’ve read, so know that going in: it’s not a lighthearted romcom with quirky characters.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Watch Your Mouth by Kandi Steiner

Watch Your Mouth by Kandi Steiner is now live!

My brother’s teammates know not to touch me—but that doesn’t stop me from daring Jaxson Brittain to be the first to break the rule.

After one steamy night in Austin, I’m all too aware of the hot, broody defenseman with icy blue eyes and ink sprawling his muscular arms. He was the one my brother assigned to keep me safe—and I had far too much fun tempting him to be the one to put me in danger.

It was just one night of tip-toeing the line, of teasing and flirting and messing around knowing nothing would ever come of it.

But when the universe throws me back into his lap two weeks later and we end up on a secret road trip together, all bets are off.

I can’t help but touch him. I can’t help but pray for him to touch me. And I can’t resist the temptation to test him at every turn.

Jaxson is smart and doesn’t have a death wish. So, like a gentleman, he keeps his hands to himself… the jerk.

But the closer we get on the road and the farther we get from reality, the less those warning signs from my brother seem to deter him.

When we started this road trip, we set a boundary. We promised to keep all arms and legs safely in the friend zone.

Now, miles and miles away from all the reasons we shouldn’t, all I can hear is my heart thumping out the resounding reason we should.

And the way those heated blue eyes watch me, I know I’m not the only one.

Kandi Steiner takes a brother’s best friend/teammate’s sister forbidden romance and sends her characters off on a forced proximity road trip in Watch Your Mouth.

Grace and Jaxson are so hot together. He is utterly smitten with Grace from the moment he meets her, and his infatuation and feelings grow as they jet off together after she breaks up with her boyfriend. There is a great connection between the characters, and I loved their banter. Their relationship develops from friends to lovers and the reader sees it all happen while Grace and Jaxson are on their road trip together.

KS adds in her signature angst, however — These two don’t live in the same city. Will they be able to make their relationship work once their road trip comes to an end?

This book was a wonderful addition to the Kings of the Ice series! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Kandi Steiner is an Amazon Top 5 bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. BLURB:

What happens when two souls meant to live their life together are separated at birth? Would fate find a way to reunite them, where they fall in love without knowing their lineage?

Could fate be that cruel? This is the question posed at the start of a story so complicated no one could predict how these men would find their way back to one another.

This is the story of Noah James and Ashton Brooks. Noah was born as a twin, with his brother Liam, leading an everyday life with wealthy and loving parents. Ashton was raised by a single mom. Even though Noah and Ashton always knew love, their lives were in complete contrast until they met and shared a chemistry that transcended time and understanding.

Both MCs are over 18.

Written in first person.

SwitchedAtBirth_Teaser-2.v2

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Wowza, Switched At Birth is a very unconventional romance. I went into it knowing that it was a twincest story — not my normal cup of tea, but I was very intrigued by the blurb and wanted to give it a try. And Leigh Lennon did not disappoint.

Noah and Ashton’s story is most definitely a taboo romance, and the concept of a story between a man who falls in love with his biological twin, who was switched at birth, might turn some readers off. But it is also a thoughtfully crafted story about soulmates and two characters who have an unbreakable connection. That shone through in LL’s words, and even though everything about Noah and Ashton’s relationship is wrong, they completed and complemented each other. Because of course they did; they are biological twins.

The switch reveal comes late in the book. The reader knows their true relationship from the start, so I kept waiting for that other shoe to drop to see how the revelation impacts both families. And WOW! Not only are Noah and Ashton affected, but their siblings, Liam and Tia, are as well. (And I can’t wait to read that story!)

Switched At Birth isn’t a happy-go-lucky romance. It’s heavy, it’s taboo, it’s emotional. But if you are willing to give it a chance, you might like Noah and Ashton’s story!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I absolutely loved She Was Mine First. I’ve read several books by Monica Robinson, and I think that this was definitely one of the more emotional, angsty ones. Ethan and Livvy’s romance was a rollercoaster of a story that has all the feels.

She Was Mine First is a friends-to-lovers-to-friends-to-lovers journey that culminates with Livvy about to get married and Ethan running out of time to convince her that he’s the man she should be with. I loved how MR wrote these characters; we got to see them both come into their own as individuals as their friendship progressed and changed over the years. “That summer” changed both of them forever, and neither of them ever got over the other one.

This story reminded me a lot of A Love Affair With Whiskey by Kandi Steiner — one of my all-time favorite angsty books and the story that I use as my “angst benchmark.” And I say that as a compliment to MR! Well done!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Undeniable by Jenna Hartley

UNDENIABLE by Jenna Hartley is NOW LIVE!

Connor is my opposite in almost every way.

I’m a bookworm; he’s a bodyguard.

I have trouble speaking up for myself; he’s direct, brash even. But the more I get to know my new pen pal, the more I see beneath the former navy SEAL’s tough exterior.
He’s a hero, and he’s hurting. But he’s also so much more than he gives himself credit for.It doesn’t matter that we live on opposite sides of the country and have never laid eyes on each other. We talk every day, sometimes for hours.

Our attraction is undeniable, and our growing connection is becoming impossible to ignore. But when Connor asks to meet, I can’t help but worry that our chemistry won’t be enough.

That I won’t be enough.

ONE CLICK —-> https://geni.us/UndeniableHartley

Undeniable was previously published as a 40,000 word novella, Unwritten. It has since been expanded to and reimagined to a full-length novel of over 70,000 words, though the feel of the story remains the same.

SUNNY SHELLY’s REVIEW: 5 Stars

I cannot remember the last time I read a book in a single day, but that is exactly what I did with Undeniable. I was hooked on Conner and Olivia’s story right from the start, and I fell in love with them as they fell in love with one another through email exchanges and texting. And after weeks of communicating online, they finally meet in person — and the connection is every bit as intense.

This book was positively charming. Olivia and Conner both had parts of themselves that they didn’t care to share with others (his childhood, his fear of becoming his abusive father; she felt like people wanted to befriend her because of her celeb parents), but in each other, they found a safe and comfortable space to be authentically themselves.

But Conner’s life is in New York, and Olivia’s is in Los Angeles. She doesn’t want to get into a long-distance relationship, so when his week’s vacation comes to an end, will their relationship as well?
There was a plot twist that I didn’t see coming, and it sealed their fate.

Finn is a growly, self-proclaimed bachelor for life. He’s the local handyman. That’s what it says on his business card. And this handyman has deemed her cabin to be uninhabitable.

Out of options, she can’t say no when Finn offers her his spare bedroom while he makes the necessary repairs to her place. Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Hailey and Finn’s totally awkward meet-cute was hilarious. The Business Card Boyfriend was a lighthearted, fun read featuring a jilted bride who has sworn off love, a grumpy handyman who has sworn off love, a gang of rogue raccoons, and a quirky small mountain town that is in love with love.

Hailey and Finn are both love-haters, but they are so perfect for each other. Their witty banter is refreshing, and the connection between them is sizzling hot. With the cabin she inherited a run-down mess, Hailey crashes at Finn’s house while he repairs hers. After one boozy night, they give in to the attraction growing between them, agreeing to a no-strings fling for however long she’s in town. But nothing is ever that simple and as feelings grow between them, will Hailey and Finn decide to take a chance on something real?

This story had heart and humor, and some big feels. While I’m not a fan of 3rd person storytelling, I will overlook that since we got the story from both Hailey and Finn’s POV!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: One Chance by Lena Hendrix

ONE CHANE by Lena Hendrix is AVAILABLE NOW!

Model: Peter Dockal

Photographer: Wander Aguiar

Blurb:

Fake dating my best friend? Total disaster.

With his cocky grin and devilish charm, firefighter Lee Sullivan makes every woman in our small town swoon. Every woman except for me.

Which is why I’m shocked when he steps in at the town’s Matchmaker’s Gala and outbids my crush during the charity auction, committing us to six prearranged dates.

Six dates where we, very publicly, pretend to be falling in love.

Despite my objections and our efforts to set each other up with other people, Lee is convinced pretending to date each other is the perfect opportunity to get the women in town off his back (and out of his bed), while also helping to nudge my non-committal crush in the jealousy department.

Stupidly, I agree.

After the disastrous blind dates he set me up on, what’s a few months of letting Lee worship the ground I walk on? He owes me.

Trouble is––every fake kiss, every lingering touch, every filthy word he whispers when no one is around––is starting to feel very, very real.

We know everything about each other––from my orphaned past to his irrational hatred of dolls. The only secret I have ever kept from Lee spans all the way back to his time in the Army and it’s the one thing that could ruin our friendship forever.

Because where Lee is concerned, I have learned to guard my heart. Suddenly, he’s asking for the opportunity to feel something real. He’s asking for the one thing he wouldn’t want if he ever knew the truth: one chance.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Lee and Annie’s story was perfect!

One Chance is a friends-t0-lovers story, but there is so much depth to Lee and Annie’s relationship due to their mutual connection with the late Margo, his ex-girlfriend and her foster sister. I adored the deep connection Lee and Annie had, how comfortable their relationship is, and how easily they became “more” while fake dating after the auction. Annie has always been in love with Lee, and it just hits him one day that he has strong feelings for her; I love when a playboy falls hard like that! That first kiss was a scorcher! And I loved how Lee always told Annie that spending time with her was “the best day ever.”

However, Annie has a secret that she’s been keeping from Lee, and it could change everything between them. And it does — but I loved how Lee doesn’t react the way she was expecting him to, but was upset for a different reason. Swoon.

These two characters were so wonderfully written, and I loved spending more time with the Sullivan family!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Naked Coffee Guy by Crissi Langwell

Release Date: October 20

He ruined my life. Now he’s ruining me for any other man.

I met Mac the night I lost my apartment. What felt like the worst night of my life turned into one of those insta-love romance stories I hate, and had me reconsidering my stance against relationships. But then I found out he was the agent who sold my home to a demolition company. That, and the fancy watch on his wrist proved we’re from different worlds. So I did the logical thing.

I disappeared.

Or so I thought. My new home has a closet-sized room, my coworker’s clutter, and a front-row view of Mac’s early morning strolls. Barefoot. Shirtless. Carrying just a cup of coffee while he wraps the whole neighborhood around his finger.

I’m trying my best to avoid Mac at all costs, but the man is persuasive. Very persuasive. And when he suggested a casual fling, I couldn’t help but agree.

But this feels nothing like casual, and I know I’m the one who’s about to get burned.
Naked Coffee Guy is Maren and Mac’s story, a steamy dual POV enemies to lovers romance with sizzling scenes and a fully-developed love story. This is the second book in the Sunset Bay series. All novels in the Sunset Bay series are complete standalones with HEAs and no cliffhangers, and take place in the same small coastal town.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars
Crissi Langwell is a new-to-me author and I’m so glad I took a chance on Naked Coffee Guy! I was expecting a steamy enemies-to-lovers romcom, but Mac and Maren’s story had so much depth to it!

These two characters had insane chemistry right from the start. They were different in so many ways, yet they had so much in common. I loved getting to know them through their respective backstories, and appreciated the present-day connections that CL wrote for Mac and Maren.

Both damaged characters, Mac and Maren are each carrying around a lot of baggage. He was so determined to make her see him as someone she could trust and rely on, despite the fact that he was the reason she was forced out of her apartment. Mac worked so hard to right the wrongs that he had been a part of, and in a weird twist of fate, if it weren’t for him, she would never have gotten to the place that she’s at by the end of the book. Earning Maren’s forgiveness meant everything to Mac, and the payoff was worth the 3rd act breakup!

I adored this story and these perfectly imperfect characters and look forward to reading more from Langwell!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Forgot to Say Goodbye by S.L. Scott

Noah Westcott should come with a warning: Too Hot to Handle!

The man is stunningly handsome with his embracing brown eyes and lips that make me want to kiss that smirk right off his face.

How could I resist?

Spoiler: I didn’t.

That was my first mistake.

I blame him for the second. It should have been easy and fun. No strings attached. No feelings. As if he commanded it like he did me in the bedroom, I did exactly what I said I wouldn’t. I fell for him.

Two years later, the same man walks into my life. Again. A lot has changed. Not his devastating good looks, or that smug grin, but for me everything.

Now that Noah’s back—in my office and hanging around after hours—I can’t get distracted. I must protect my secret—the one who calls me Mommy.

After meeting Noah Wescott in his brothers’ books, I was so glad to get to know the youngest brother better. And Noah and Liv’s story did not disappoint!

Noah and Liv met two years ago and shared a steamy one-night stand in the Hamptons. They never exchanged last names, and she was gone before he woke up the following morning. Needless to say, they are both shocked when Noah arrives for his first day at work… and Liv is the accountant at the marketing firm! Noah is shocked because he has never been able to get Liv off his mind, and she’s shocked to see the father of her baby again!

At first, Olivia doesn’t want to give Noah the time of day because his presence threatens to destroy her life and she’s super protective of her son, Maxwell. But watching Liv give in to Noah and how these two fell in love was wonderful. Noah was a natural as a dad, and I adored his interactions with baby Max. In the Wescott family, Liv found the love and support she never got from her own father (her mother, however, was a great support).

There is no 3rd act breakup in Forgot to Say Goodbye, which I appreciated; Noah was just *there* in support of Liv from the start. It’s a sexy and swoony story that will leave you with a smile!

When forces from my past find us, Roan is determined to keep us safe—even if that means sleeping on my ancient couch every night.

Oh my heart! I am a sucker for a broody, broken, loner or a hero, and I knew as soon as Roan was introduced in Whispers of You that I would love him. And I did! Roan and Aspen’s story is so beautiful, and I adored seeing how protective he was of her and little Cady!

Once again, Catherine Cowles crafted a wonderful story that is full of heart and heart, with a gripping suspense. Aspen has lived a quiet life, raising her daughter and keeping to herself, not wanting the truth about their past to come to light. Roan lives an even quieter life, having turned almost reclusive after his brother’s girlfriend was attacked years ago and he was briefly a suspect. They collide in a beautiful way, and they bring so much to each other’s lives.

Maxine Mitchell and Zachary Webber did a phenomenal job in narrating this story. I don’t know how he did it, but Zachary sounded so broken and defeated during certain crucial moments, and it made me love Roan even more!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
