Sunny Shelly’s Review: Beautiful Crazy by A James

BEAUTIFULLY CRAZY by A James is AVAILABLE NOW

Blurb:

As a single mom with my hands and heart full, finding love is the last thing on my mind.

Then Everett Windward comes along.

My new neighbor is charming, handsome, and sexy—and before I know it, I have a new friend…with benefits.

Fun and filthy benefits.

There’s just one problem—He’s also my son’s teacher.

That alone should have me pumping the brakes… except it doesn’t. I’m drawn to him and to the way he makes me feel. Everett has a filthy side that has reignited something inside of me that I haven’t felt in years.

Something I thought I lost.

But there are rules…

My son can’t know.

No sleeping over.

And absolutely no feelings involved.

But as time goes on, it becomes impossible to ignore the butterflies in my stomach when I catch him looking at me, or when I watch him play ball with my son day after day.

Before I know it, he’s so intertwined in our lives, and I can no longer deny the desire to break the very rules that I put into place to begin with.

But it’s not just my feelings I have to consider.

I can see how quickly my son is becoming attached to him. See the way he yearns for that father figure in his life.

We have experienced enough hurt and loss to last a lifetime. Can I really open up our hearts, knowing the risk I’m taking?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Beautiful Crazy is the first book I’ve read by Ashley James, and this was such a cute, heartfelt small-town — with a lot of spice and a very dirty-talking MC!

After inheriting his late grandmother’s house, Everett moves from Seattle to Blossom Beach, SC. He keeps crossing paths with Gemma: at the beach, at the cafe, at his hotel, and eventually discovering that they are neighbors. Fate puts them in each other’s paths once again when Everett turns out to be her son Sutton’s new teacher. As a friendship forms between Everett and Sutton, the sizzling chemistry grows between him and Gemma.

A friends-with-benefits situationship soon develops into so much more. I thought these characters really had a great connection, and I enjoyed seeing how their relationship progressed. The story is low angst, but there are high emotional stakes with Everett’s toxic relationship with his dad and Gemma grieving her late husband. Everett was such a solid support for Gemma as she navigated how to move on with a new relationship, and stepped up for Sutton in so many ways.

I binged this audio on a Sunday, listening to Connor Crais and his smoldering baritone as I put away Christmas decorations and did laundry. Likewise, Samantha Brentmoor was also a great narrator in telling Gemma’s story (complete with her Southern accent).

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: War by Brittanee Nicole

WAR by Brittanée Nicole is AVAILABLE NOW!

Blurb:

I’ve never been a good bet.

I wear my emotions on my tattoo-covered sleeve, I say all the wrong things and I revel in pissing off a certain redhead far more than I should. In other words, I’m the last person the court would choose to parent any child, let alone three of them.

Yet being their father is all I want.

So when the woman I love to hate offers to help make all my dreams come true, I jump at the chance. Marrying Ava is a convenient solution: she’s my kids favorite person and the court will absolutely approve of the woman who runs the biggest charity in Boston.

But there is nothing convenient about the way I feel when she fights with me, or when we kiss. And I’m not sure which I enjoy more.

This marriage may have a time limit but I’m beginning to think I’d like to keep my wife. She’ll probably fight me on it, but as they say, all’s fair in love and war.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Tyler Warren is a tattooed hockey god with a heart of gold. I absolutely loved the plot of this book being a single guy (a pro athlete, no less!) wanting to adopt three kids on his own. Enter the marriage pact between Tyler and Ava.

Both Tyler and Ava have a lot of emotional baggage — he always felt like he wasn’t really a fit in his father’s life, and she was literally conceived to be a donor for her sister, a la My Sister’s Keeper. Ava never wanted to have kids of her own as a result, so it was sweet seeing her become the maternal figure for Brayden, Josie and Scarlett, and how the three kids changed her mindset about being a parent.

One complaint about this book/series: So I’ve read two books in this series now (#1 and #3) and while I always love and appreciate a found family group, there were a lot of characters and I had trouble keeping tabs on who was with whom. It also took me about 1/4 of the way before I really got into this story because I felt like I was missing part of it. Yeah, he stood her up (not meaning to, but because Brayden needed help) two years earlier. But did she ever give him a chance to explain? That’s why she hated him for two years? They had a common circle of friends, so they were around each other often, but I didn’t really get why Ava hated Tyler so much. It was a case of being told, not shown, which is a pet peeve of mine.

Overall, I thought this book was very well done. As much as this was a spicy romance novel, it was also a well-thought-out family story; Brittanee Nicole did a great job handling the adoption part of the story. Tyler is totally a reformed playboy who becomes a big cinnamon roll around his wife (aka Vicious) and the kids. Ava is a feisty firecracker, and I loved the banter between the two.

When she is not writing she enjoys spending time outdoors by the water with her children, reading at the beach or by the pool (or really anywhere), dancing with her friends, singing Karaoke, spinning, bike riding and boating.

Some of her favorite authors are Sophia Kinsella, Elin Hilderbrand, Liane Moriarty, Mary Higgins Clark, Meghan Quinn, Daphne Elliott, Amy Alves, Claire Kingsley, Melanie Harlow, Christina Lauren, Sally Thorne and Sarah Adams. (Clearly, she has a problem and can’t pick favorites.)

FORBIDDEN DREAMS by Natasha Madison is AVAILABLE NOW!

Blurb:

When the single mom moves in next door, it’s your enemy’s soon-to-be ex-wife.

Lines are drawn, and I have to remember not to cross them.

Brady

For once, my life was calm.

Behind us was the threat our distillery was going to be shut down.

Now we could focus on growing our brand exactly the way I dreamed of doing it when I took it over.

Nothing was going to stop me.

Until she moved in next door.

My enemy’s wife with her seven-year-old son.

I don’t need this right now.

But everything inside me pulled me toward her.

Even offering her a job. Little did I know, again, I was starting a war.

However, I’m ready for it this time.

Harmony

It was no secret my husband had a wandering eye.

Leaving him shouldn’t have been a shock to anyone.

For Winston, it was more about failing at something that got under his skin.

Besides, he had to make his parents happy.

Which means he’s going to make my life unhappy.

When the pounding starts at my door one night, I’m ready to ignore it.

Until the stranger next door comes to our aid.

He’s everything you want in a man.

I know I shouldn’t involve anyone else in my life.

But maybe it’s time for me to see what dreams are made of.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

The second book in the Dream series, Forbidden Dream follows Brady (Autumn’s brother from Shattered Dreams) and Harmony Cartwright, who is a single mom trying to get divorced from Winston Cartwright. Yep, Winston is the stuck-up brother of Autumn’s horrible ex, who died in the car accident that took place before this series began. And he is a real piece of work…

Harmony moves next door to Brady, trying to piece her life back together and create a safe space for her son, Wyatt. But Winston and his parents do not make it easy for her. Despite his initial reaction to not get involved, Brady steps in to be Harmony’s knight in shining armor more than once. They don’t start off on the best foot, but their friendship grows when Brady reluctantly gives Harmony a job serving tables at his bar… and then things really take off.

It’s kind of a slow burn until it hits Brady all at once that he’s been waiting to have someone like Harmony in his life. When he moves them into his house to keep them safe from her ex, it strikes Brady just how much Harmony and Wyatt have made his house a home. Brady gives Harmony and Wyatt the home life they never had with Winston, and they in turn bring color to his world, as he tells her. There are some really swoony moments between these two characters, and I equally loved how he developed a sweet relationship with Wyatt. He never set out to be Wyatt’s father, but was more of a dad to that kid than Winston ever was. I loved seeing their bond grow, and how this trio becomes a family!

I also *loved* the cameos by Ryleigh (as Harmony’s lawyer), the scary uncles Max & Matthew, and Autumn’s grandfather-in-law, Charlie’s Pops, Casey Barnes! They are a scary bunch and they made me laugh!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Mr. Broody by Piper Rayne

MR. BROODY, the second book in Piper Rayne’s hockey romance series The Nest, is now live! 🩷🏒

Download today on Amazon, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Google Play, and Kobo!

https://books2read.com/MR-B

I’ve loved Henry Hensley since I was seven years old. We’ve gone from best friends to lovers to nothing.

To most people, he’s the Chicago Falcons starting right winger and hot single dad, but to me, he’s my first boyfriend, my first kiss, my first love.

Eight years ago, that all changed when our lives took us in two different directions. Our break-up almost broke me, so I kept my distance until our hometown called me back to where our story began.

I promised myself a quick visit to help my family out, and then I’d leave town before he even knew I was back, which should have been easy. He’s way too busy being a professional hockey player and raising his son to ever find out.

Of course, I’m only in town for a week before I run into him, and one thing is clear from our brief encounter—Henry wants to hash out our past, whereas I’d rather forget it.

But my plan really goes up in flames when I take a temporary substitute teaching job, and on day one, his son walks into my classroom. Boom.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Mr. Broody packed quite the punch! It included everything I hope for in a second-chance romance, especially that neither Jade nor Henry had moved on in the years they were apart and were still just as in love with the other as they day he dropped her off at the airport! It took me a bit to make the connection that Jade and Henry are the same little kids from Manic Monday/Smitten With The Best Man — I read that book way back in 2018! I love when authors bring up the next generation of characters to connect to previous books!

Jade and Henry had been through it all together, first as best friends, then as young lovers. They shared all of their firsts together, but then one day, Henry let Jade go so she could explore her own photography dreams rather than be his support as he embarked on a hockey career. Neither one of them ever quite got over that, and when Jade comes back home for a few months to help out her parents, these two get a second chance at love….

With a little pushing from Henry’s son, Bodhi. I love that kid! I thought that the chapters from the POV of Henry’s son Bodhi were fantastic. I love that kid, and it was so cute to get his take on things! (And how his dad is always staring at Jade’s picture!)

I listened to the audio as well as read the ebook, and I love the full-cast narration with this rowdy bunch. JF Harding is a favorite of mine, and I thought he perfectly captured the loneliness, the hurt, and the regret that Henry has been feeling. I believe this is the first book I’ve listened to Brooke Bloomingdale narrate, but I thought she did a great job in bringing Jade to life.

Mr. Broody had some wonderful flashbacks, so readers got to know Henry and Jade at the start of their relationship and then how it all blew up. There are some great moments between them as they face their past demons and try to figure out if there is a way for them to move forward. Looking forward to the rest of The Nest guys finding their loves! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Keane Stone was my first love. I thought I’d grow old with him.We had a future filled with promises, until one fateful night. One tragic accident, and just like that, he slipped into a coma. For years, I clung to hope; holding on to every ‘what if.’But life doesn’t stand still. Eventually, I had to learn how to live again. Grief clung to me like a second skin when Haydn Wesford came into my life. He’s a professional hockey goalie with a natural instinct to protect. He showed up just when I needed someone the most. Loving Haydn was like taking my first real breath in years. He made me laugh when I thought I’d forgotten how and made me believe in second chances. Just as Haydn and I were about to build a life of our own, everything came crashing down. Keane woke up.I can’t abandon him . Haydn, being the man he is, agrees to help bring Keane home and get him back on his feet. But as days turn into weeks, feelings I thought were buried begin to stir. I remember the promises Keane and I made, the future we dreamed up together. Now I’m standing at a crossroads—caught between the man who is my past and the one who would be my future. I’m torn in two. Two hearts.

Two futures.

And only one choice.

How do you let go of your first love when he’s standing right in front of you? How do you choose the man you need… without breaking the heart of the one you can’t seem to let go of?The fault in forever is that sometimes love isn’t enough. And now, I have to decide who I am—and who I can’t live without—before I lose them both.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3.5 Stars

I’m torn about this book… I don’t normally enjoy love triangles, but I was intrigued by the blurb for this book, and the idea of an ex suddenly reappearing, and how Keane’s presence would impact the new life Ophelia created with Hadyn. While I enjoyed parts of this book very much, I some things were unexplained by the time I got to the end. There were other parts that felt repetitive and yet others that even felt like a missing plot hole. And I felt like I was kind of dropped into the middle of a story at times; things I hoped would be further explained in later chapters were not. I was hoping for some kind of full flashback chapter about the accident. Keane’s brother just let her be his guardian? What the heck happened between Rowan and Constantine? Ophelia ended up with the guy I was rooting for at the end, but the second epilogue threw me for a loop and there was so much more to Keane than I initially thought. Overall, not a bad read, but not everything was tied up in a bow the way I would have liked it to be. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: The One by Marni Mann

The One by Marni Mann is now live!

USA Today best-selling author Marni Mann brings an angsty, tortured hero, billionaire romance to the sizzling conclusion of the Spade Hotel Series.

They call me insensitive.
They call me uncaring.
I’m a raging alphahole ninety-nine percent of the time.

But no one really knows Rhett Cole at all.

Memories are my currency.
Regret is my drink of choice.

I’m not the guy who didn’t care.
I’m the guy who only cared about her.

Lainey Taylor.

My reason.
My why.
My one.
The woman I’ve been in love with since my freshman year of high school.

A love so strong that I had her name inked on my body when I was eighteen.
She was my fairy tale.
My happily ever after.

Until I ruined … everything.
Until she looked me in the face and told me she never wanted to see me again.

That’s the day my life lost all meaning.

Fifteen years later, she’s back, and my dead heart begins to beat again.

Every story has a villain.
I’ve held that title for too long.

When the truth is revealed …

Will I win back the one?

Oh, my heart!!! Marni Mann wraps up The Spade Hotel series with Rhett’s story in The One — and she broke me! Having seen pieces of this broody a-hole along the way in the other books of this series, I couldn’t wait to get to his backstory, and it was so worth the wait! The only person who seemed to bring out his soft side is his niece, so you just knew there was a good guy buried under that icy exterior. Rhett and Lainey’s story is told in a dual timeline of past and present chapters. Childhood sweethearts, they were the picture-perfect young couple…. until they weren’t. I absolutely loved getting to know high school Rhett. This book is full of heartache, but also full of healing and second chances. I don’t want to give more than that away, but Mann really ends this series with the best of the bunch! The One is a book that sticks with you after you’re done, and is definitely one that I will come back to for a re-read! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Wyatt by Jessica Peterson

Wyatt by Jessica Peterson is now live!

Roping horses leads to riding cowboys in this sexy friends-to-lovers, fake-dating, lessons-in-seduction romance by Jessica Peterson.

Wyatt Rivers is the perfect no-strings hookup—a cowboy Casanova who rocks a Stetson, looks smokin’ hot in his Wranglers, and never rests his head on the same pillow twice.

He’s exactly what I’m looking for. If only Wyatt wasn’t also my best friend…

I’m back in my hometown of Harstville, Texas, for a few months while I wait for my dream job to start thousands of miles away. While I’m here, I hope to end an epic dry spell in the bedroom, preferably with a local cowboy. If the rumors are true, they really do ride harder and stay on longer.

Wyatt and I have been best friends since second grade, and I’ve been in love with him for almost as long. But he’s as wild and untamed as a colt that can’t be broken—not to mention, totally out of my league with his good looks and heartbreaker reputation.

Then I get to thinking: since Wyatt is such an expert, why doesn’t he teach me the ropes of how to find a hookup? He begrudgingly agrees, and a little fake flirting suddenly leads to fake dating, which leads to real kissing, which leads to real…well, everything else.

And let me just say, the rumors are absolutely true.

Now, I want so badly to be Wyatt’s last rodeo. But I’m leaving town, and even if I wasn’t, I’m not sure Wyatt would ever change his playboy ways.

I know cowboys can’t be tamed. Apparently, neither can hearts…

Woah, baby, Sally and Wyatt bring YEARS of yearning and mutual pining to this story!

Two secret tattoos, people! Two!

I loved everything about these two characters! They have both been madly in love with each other for years, and neither one of them ever acted on their feelings, convinced that the other couldn’t possibly feel the same way. Sally never told Wyatt how she felt because she thought he was too good for her and he wouldn’t want her to stick around their small town. Wyatt never told Sally how he felt because he didn’t think he was good enough for her and knew she had bigger aspirations than their small town.

So when these best friends cross the line to so much more thanks to some fake dates and seduction lessons, it is FIRE! And this cowboy sure does know how to use his lasso, if you catch my drift.

As did Cash’s book, Wyatt’s story touches on some elements of grief, and how his parents’ deaths impacted him. I am loving the Lucky River Ranch series, and adored Wyatt and Sally. I also loved getting to spend some time with Cash and Mollie!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I am so glad that Siobhan Davis did companion books in the All of Me series from Reeve and Dillon’s POV! Even though I’ve waited a year to get Dillon’s book, it was worth the wait!

When I first started the original duet, I was totally Team Reeve. Then I was Team Dillon. Reeve’s book gave me a lot of insight into what made that character tick, and I was so happy to get inside Dillon’s mind too! Talk about a tortured musician! He lived his entire adult life feeling less-than, second best, constantly comparing himself to Reeve as the unwanted twin. I especially loved seeing Dillon fall in love with Vivien, even though he initially set out to date her and dump her. He was just so consumed with his love for her and his heartbreak over losing her.

Much of this book is new content — we get to know Dillon as a little boy, as a teenager, during the Vivien era and Toxic Gods, and the rise of Collateral Damage. Having read the other books in this series, I really liked getting all of his background. Because SD made an artistic choice to not just rehash scenes from Dillon’s POV, some pivotal moments are missing, yet we see Dillon’s reaction to them after the fact. So there were several instances where I had to go back to the original books for a refresher because it’s been so long since I first read them and I didn’t have time for a reread before this.

But fans of the All of Me series won’t be disappointed! I especially loved the epilogue, seeing Dillon and Vivien as empty nesters in their 5os! And there is an awesome alternate-reality bonus scene if you dare to read it!

Thank you for Reeve, Vivien, and Dillon’s love triangle, Siobhan! Please do a next-generation series with the kids!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Irene Bahrd is a new-to-me author, and I really enjoyed the depth she gave to the friends-to-lovers trope in Always Heated. Travis and Cassidy grabbed my attention from the beginning, and I loved seeing how much was actually behind this marriage pact that they made a decade ago.

Travis and Cassidy have been pining for each other since they were kids — he’s best friends with her brother, Caleb, and the three are close in age. Travis never made a move on his feelings for Cass, and instead dated everyone else in town. The book opens on his birthday, when instead of going forward with a one-night stand, they instead make a pact to marry each other if they are both still single in ten years.

Flash forward 10 years later, and just as Travis, having realized that he has bona fide feelings for Cass, is about to propose, her current boyfriend pops the question. And that spurs Travis into action to try to win her over. At first, Cass is convinced he only wants her because of their pact — despite all of their friends and family telling her otherwise.

The chemistry between them is intense, and Travis is a swoony boyfriend. It’s a bumpy road for these two, and Cassidy goes through some major events along the way. But Travis never falters in his faith in their relationship or his assurance that he wants to spend his life with her. I loved that dedication, and how he wasn’t afraid to be vulnerable and show his feelings to her.

Always Heated is a standalone, but there are lots of references to Ingrid and Caleb’s story, Never Yours (Cassidy’s best friend and brother). I felt a little lost at times because I didn’t know the details, which was a minor inconvenience. I didn’t think that Travis’ guilt over losing his dog Blaze was explored enough, or *why* he was so depressed that night of his birthday when they made the marriage pact — so I was kind of surprised when those plot points came back into play at the end of the book. I appreciate the mental health rep portrayed by both characters, but I thought that Travis’ could have been explored better. And I’m still not sure how Ashlyn fits into the friend group.

Overall, this is the first book I’ve read by Irene Bahrd and I enjoyed it! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Twice In A Lifetime by Jessica Prince

𝐼’𝑑 𝑎𝑙𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 ℎ𝑎𝑑 𝑎 𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑔 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑡𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑖𝑛𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑡, 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑖𝑡 ℎ𝑎𝑑 𝑏𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑜𝑙 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑛 𝑖𝑡 𝑐𝑎𝑚𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝐵𝑙𝑦𝑡ℎ𝑒.

TWICE IN A LIFETIME by Jessica Prince is AVAILABLE NOW

When I moved away from Hope Valley at eighteen years old, I told myself it was for good. There were too many unpleasant memories, too much history, and too many reminders of the boy who had broken my heart.

Years passed and I built a life and a family with a man I loved. Then, in the blink of an eye, that life was ripped away from me, and the secrets he’d kept from me refused to follow him into his grave.

Now I’m back in my hometown, a shell of my former self, trying to pick up the pieces of my shattered life and fit them back together. My heart has been broken for the second time in my life, but I have to put on a brave face and fake it for the sake of my kids and the people I love.

I thought I was doing a pretty good job of hiding the pain, but there is one person I’ve never been able to fool. One person who was always able to see through the masks I tried to wear, and he is determined to chase my shadows away.

Rhodes Bradbury is all grown up now. The boy who had been my first love is now all man. And to make matters worse, my body still reacts to him the same way it did all those years ago. My heart still races in his presence, and a single look from those deep, dark eyes is enough to make my skin tingle. The voice in the back of my head is screaming at me to steer clear, but there’s just one problem.

The boy he was might have broken my heart, but the man he is now wants a second chance. He isn’t afraid of my baggage. In fact, he wants nothing more than to carry it for me.

I’m trying my hardest not to repeat the mistakes of the past. But he’s doing everything in his power to convince me that most people aren’t lucky enough to have what we had even once, let alone twice in a lifetime.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Having read the OG Hope Valley series made me love Rhodes and Blythe even more because I’d seen them as younger characters in his sister Gypsy’s book and her mom Nona’s book.

This story was full of second-chance goodness between two characters with a long history between them. After Blythe’s husband passed away and she discovered her entire life was a lie, she headed home to Hope Valley and tried to avoid Rhodes, the first guy who broke her heart. But when she needs assistance from the Alpha Omega guys — to investigate her late husband — she is shocked to see that Rhodes is Lincoln’s new partner.

Twenty years ago, a much-younger Rhodes threw their relationship away — but now he is determined to make things up to Blythe and make up for lost time. I loved these two together. The symbolism of the angel wings tattoo, how sweet he is with her kids, how it has always been her… this story checked off all the boxes that I want to see in a second-chance romance.

I am really enjoying this next-generation of Hope Valley books, and love that the kids are just as much of a tight-knit bunch as their parents are! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
