Sunny Shelly’s Review: Truly Yours, by Kennedy Fox

Truly Yours, the anticipated conclusion of Mason & Sophie’s story is HERE from Kennedy Fox!
This is a friends-to-lovers roommate romance filled with drama, suspense, and, of course, plenty of angsty slow burn goodness you’ve come to expect in a Kennedy Fox book!

I knew within moments of meeting Mason Holt that he would change my life forever. I just didn’t realize how much.
As my world spirals out of control, he continues to stay by my side, protecting and taking care of me. Being just friends is all he’s been able to offer, that is until both of our lives are threatened. Now that our relationship is blossoming into something more, I can’t be what he needs even if I wished I could.
Bad timing strikes again.
When I think we can finally be together, someone threatens to tear us apart. I’m not the same girl Mason met three years ago, but I’m determined to fight for what I’ve always wanted–him.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Wow, the road is not an easy one for Mason and Sophie!

Truly Yours picks up right where Truly Mine left off, and we get to see the cliffhanger’s turn of events from Sophie’s POV. It’s jarring, it’s kind of difficult to read, and it kept me on the edge of my seat. But thankfully, Mason gets to be the white knight once again and saves Sophie’s life for a second time.

Things should be smooth sailing from there, right? Not so much. I really liked that Sophie took a step back to deal with the effects of the PTSD that both incidents had on her rather than jump right into a relationship with Mason. And Mason…. he was so sweet and understanding and gave her the space she needed. He recognized that he needed to heal himself after the situation he’d gone through when his girlfriend died, and gave Sophie the space to do the same.

Yet while I appreciated that growth on Sophie’s part, I felt that the plot twist with Serena was unnecessary. It didn’t amount to much, but I get that a device was needed to further break the relationship with Mason and his dad. I just thought there could have been another way to go about it.

Nonetheless, I loved this duet, and January 2020 is way too long to get Liam and Maddie’s story! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Read Truly Mine Here to Catch Up!

The night we met in the dimly lit bar, she looked like a
brunette bombshell, and I wanted to learn her deepest secrets. With sun-kissed
skin and soulful bedroom eyes, she was pure temptation, and I was mesmerized.
As one drink led to two, I craved more of her playful banter and
taunting lips. Resisting her wasn’t an option, and we quickly became a
desperate mess of tangled limbs and hot kisses. She tasted like the sweetest
sin, but I was no saint.
Once we caught our breaths, and it became obvious that meeting
her wasn’t a coincidence, everything changed. Now I must deny her at all costs.
Friends
It’s all we can ever be.
After years of lying to myself and keeping her at a distance, I
want to pull her close. Sophie’s on my mind more than ever as my instincts to
protect her take over. Regardless of my attempts to help, she pushes me away
and makes it clear she doesn’t need me.
I’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe, to show her I’m the
good guy, but one night takes a tragic turn for the worse when her boyfriend
and I start throwing punches.
And ends when I’m arrested for his murder

Who’s better than me to follow her around before and during the big day, capturing every picturesque moment, snapping every detail as they join together in wedlock? No one.

About the Author

Denise Wells has been reading since before she could talk. And to this day, escaping into a book is her go-to activity before anything else. She’s the author of five romance novels and one YA novel to date. She likes to write about sassy women and semi-flawed alpha-esque men. Denise’s female characters always have strong friendships, potty mouths, and like to drink–a lot. Denise is loyal to a fault, a bit too sarcastic, blindingly optimistic, and pretty freakin’ happy with life overall. As a diehard fan of the band Journey, Denise would be a rock star in the band if she couldn’t be a writer. Preferably during the Steve Perry years, when they were awesome. Home is in the Pacific Northwest where she lives with six special needs dogs, one cat (who’s busy plotting the demise of the six dogs), and a husband (BW) who has the patience and tolerance of a saint. And, lest she forget, Denise also lives with too many to count characters inside her head, who will eventually have their stories told.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: The Hardest Hit, by A.S. Teague

THH - BT banner.jpg

“A.S. Teague brings the feels with this one, y’all. The Hardest Hit is the kind of book that sinks its claws into your heart and doesn’t let go. Five well-earned stars from me.” –LK Farlow, Amazon bestselling author

The Hardest Hit, an all-new emotional, single dad romance from A.S. Teague is available now!

the hardesthit-complete

My friends used to tell me ‘What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.’ Clearly they lied, because there was no way the chemistry I had with Mel could ever be left behind.

However, my children, her career, and nine hundred miles between us meant that for seven years, Melanie Holstein was the one who got away.

I was Aiden Shaw, first-round draft pick turned the best quarterback the league had ever seen. I worked hard to secure my position in football history while balancing life as a single dad. Through it all, my Vegas spitfire was never far from my mind.

And considering her best friend was now with my best friend, it was pure and utter torture.

When my career took a devastating turn, Mel was the first person at my side. I was broken and defeated, but that stubborn woman was determined to piece me back together.

I liked to pretend Mel and I were destined for greatness, but Lady Luck had never been on our side. And the tragedy that followed might have been the hardest hit of all.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Aiden and Melanie were just one missed connection time and time again. Life kept getting in the way, and the stars never aligned for the two of them. But when Aiden’s world crumbles around him, Melanie is the one by his side, helping him pick up the pieces of his shattered life.

I would have liked this book a lot more if it didn’t take so long for them to get together. I felt like it was dragging, and I was getting anxious. But I really liked the characters, and was rooting for them to get together and get on the same page nonetheless. It’s a wonderful slow burn, full of sweet moments and lovely ending for the football star and the girl who got away.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt

“Fine. I won’t argue anymore.” Brooke finally relented to letting me loan her more money so that we didn’t have to leave so early.

But suddenly, leaving didn’t sound like such a bad idea.

My face split into a grin, and I swayed toward her, whispering, “That’s my girl. Now, don’t be obvious, but there is a fuckin hottie at the table across from us who has been eyeing you since we sat down.”

I didn’t mention that I only knew he’d been eyeing her because I’d been having some serious visual foreplay with his buddy.

Brooke looked to the craps table where five men were cheering every time their numbers hit, clapping each other on the back and whooping. Her jaw dropped and I giggled.

After a full thirty seconds of her staring open-mouthed across the smoky area, she blinked and I hissed, “Yessssss.”

“I… um… think he’s looking at you.”

“Pshhhh.” I elbowed her and glanced back over to where both men had stopped what they were doing and were watching us almost expectantly. “That’s all you, girl. The guy beside him is a different story. Mister Dreamy over there, though, only has eyes for Brooke.”

“Who’s Brooke?” she whispered.

I couldn’t stop the sharp burst of laughter that erupted from my lips, and she grabbed her wine glass and drained it in one swallow.

I grabbed my own and followed her lead. Game on!

“Shit, I think I just had an out-of-body experience,” she whispered.

I scooped up my pile of chips and dumped them into my clutch. “Hopefully, you’ll have another one later tonight. Let’s go talk to them.”

“No, no, no,” Brooke objected as I dragged her by the arm to the group of guys. “Mel, stop. We can’t just…”

I gave her a gentle shove and she teetered on her heels, careening right into the back of the guy who had been watching her. And when he turned, I knew that my work there was done.

It was time to go take care of my own business.

“See something you like?” I asked, stopping in front of my date for the evening, whether he knew it or not.

He leaned in close and whispered in my ear, “I’ve never seen anything so breathtaking in my life.”

I tipped my head back to look at him, a response frozen in my throat.

The side of his mouth hitched as he stared down at me, his thick lashes giving a spectacular show.

I braced for what he was going to say next. Sexy as he was, I still needed him to have a personality, or it would never work… not even for a one-night stand.

He wedged a hand in the pocket of his jeans and murmured, “That took you long enough. I was worried I’d lost my charm and I was going to have to summon a smoke signal in order to ask you out.”

My brows shot up and a smile curled my lips. “Walking over to meprobably would have been easier.”

“Maybe. But then I would have missed the view of those sexy legs as they carried you over here.” He leaned in close. Not touching me physically, but his proximity was a tangible caress of its own. “Trust me when I tell you, it was well worth the wait.”

My breath hitched as he leaned away, that seductive grin still firmly in place.

“I’m Aiden. And you are?”

Whoever the hell you want me to be.

“Mel. Er… Melanie. Whatever. I answer to both.”

He nodded, his gaze dropping to my mouth. “Nice to meet you, Mel.”

That was the exact moment I realized that I’d been wrong. It wasn’t Lady Luck who had been on my side. For the way my entire body was heating, this man had to have been the work of the devil himself.

And I was completely okay with that.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Styx & Stones, by Carmen Jenner

Styx_Stones_Carmen_Jenner_Blog_Tour.jpg

Cancer sucks … and then you die.

Styx and Stones an all-new emotional, mature young adult romance from USA Today bestselling author Carmen Jenner is available now!

Styx_Stones_Carmen_Jenner_AMAZON

Alaska Stone is a walking wet dream.

My wet dream.

For years, I’ve watched her in the halls, wanted her, but she never knew I existed.

Not until she walked into my chemo session.

For me, it was love at first sight.

For her? It might take a little longer.

But hey, it’s not like we’re on a deadline or anything.

Excerpt

“Come here,” Styx says, giving my arm a weak tug.

“Where?”

“Come lie with me.”

I laugh and shake my head. “I can’t. I’ll squash your lines.”

“They’re plastic; they’ll bounce back.” His face turns serious, and the desperation in his eyes claws at my resolve. “Get your sweet ass up here, Stones. I wanna hold my girl.”

It takes a little maneuvering with his central line and heart-rate monitor, and my IV, but eventually I settle in against his side and he wraps his good arm around me, holding me as tightly as his weak body will allow.

I wish we had the power to make time wait for us.

I’d make it wait forever, right here. I’d use up all of the seconds it’s stolen from me, from us, and the lifetime it’s going to steal from our future. If I had the ability, I’d hit pause right here, and I’d never let him go.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

It’s taken me a few days to think about what I want to say about Styx & Stones. I knew it was going to be a tear-jerker. Harley & Rose by Carmen Jenner is a book I’ve read over and over again, and cry every time. I knew Styx was the young kid who Harley knows from chemo, so I knew what I was getting into when I started S&S. And it still gutted me.

Alaska Stone is the last person who Styx — battling his second round of stomach cancer — expects to see walk into the chemo treatment room at the hospital. They go to the same high school, but are worlds apart in social status, even though Styx has been crushing on her since they were 10. He’s kind of thrown off kilter, and acts like a massive jerk, leading the two to get off on the wrong foot. But a slow friendship starts to develop as they lean on one another to get through their treatment. Should Stones have the cranial surgery to remove her tumor, but the very surgery could leave her dead? Is Styx’s cancer terminal?

It’s heartbreaking and uplifting when Styx and Stones head out on his birthday road trip to Disneyland. All they want to do is be normal teenagers when their lives are anything but. They share so many sweet firsts over those few days, but their lives are forever changed at the same time when all starts to go downhill. The emotional upheaval had me in tears in the wee hours of the morning.

Despite his illness, Styx lives every day to the fullest, and teaches Stones how to do the same. It is far from a traditional YA romance, and the ending is far from a traditional happily ever after. But it is perfect for this young couple, and despite the tears and heartache I felt for them both, I ended the book with a smile on my face.

“We’re going to be late.”
“For what?”
“Forever.”

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

What?!?! Love Lock took everything I thought about where Pippa and Drew’s story was going and threw it out the window!

It’s been 5 years since Drew broke Pippa’s heart (and his own) by breaking up with her. He’s never gotten over it, and it is his biggest regret. She, meanwhile, tries to move on and even gets married. But it is a horrible relationship, and she’s suffering.

When Drew tries to set things right, will he be able to win back his lost love? Or is it too late for him to play hero?

I thought this was a great ending to this duet. It’s heartfelt, heartbreaking, filled with drama and tender moments. And I really hated Pippa’s brother. So much of what happened to her could have been avoided if he wasn’t such a jerk about things! I guess he’s redeemed himself, but I really didn’t like him!

EXCERPT

“What about you?”

He scratched his jaw with a thumb. “What about me?”

“After that interrogation, there’s no way you’re getting off easy.”

“Getting off.” He smirked.

“You’re a child.”

“I’m a man.”

I took one of the throw pillows from behind me and smacked him with it. Or tried to, but he fended it off. “Come on, what’s the story? You work in a cesspool of toned abs and pheromones. I know there’s a woman who loves to sweat and lift ungodly amounts of weight just as much as you do.”

He laughed. “You are something else.”

“So I’ve been told.”

“Anyway, that might be true, but I would say the essence is more body odor, less pheromone.” He shrugged. “I guess I haven’t had time to think about dating.”

“Are you kidding? You wouldn’t even have to leave work. You essentially have a conveyor belt of women, coming in and out of your gym for workouts. And afterward, you’re showing them how to cook. You’re telling me there’s been no heated glances? No meeting of eyes over the treadmills, no brushing of hands while you’re making boring grilled chicken, side by side?”

“Is that how you perceive my job?” Humor entered his gaze, twisted his mouth. “I’ll have you know, I’m very professional.”

I held up both palms. “Hey, I’m not making accusations. All I’m saying is, it could happen. I’m picturing all this in my head like a bad RomCom.”

“No chance. I wouldn’t even entertain the idea.”

“That’s it, who hurt you? Who made you this wary of heated glances and brushing body parts?”

The mirth eased from his eyes first, and then his mouth settled into a line. It wasn’t quite a frown; he wasn’t that transparent. But I could feel the gloom that’d slipped over him. Was it something I’d said?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Hitched, by Pippa Grant & Lili Valente

Title: Hitched
Authors: Pippa Grant & Lili Valente
Genre: Romantic Comedy

 Release Date: September 3, 2019

Blurb

She’s the last woman on earth I’d marry….again.

Yet here I am.

Saying my vows. Again.

To save an alpaca.

At least, that’s my story.

But the truth might be a little more complicated.

I didn’t want to let her go the first time. But now I have a second chance to
win over my wife.

We’re older. Wiser. And hornier.

This time, I won’t fail.Hitched is a red hot, enemies-to-lovers laugh-a-palooza featuring a girl in
need of a marriage of convenience and a man in need of a cold shower to keep
from falling for his fake wife. They say opposites attract, but with Blake and
Hope, they also combust…

ADD TO GOODREADS

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Hitched is another cute collab from Lili Valente and Pippa Grant, set in the quirky town of Happy Cat. This time around, O’Dell brother Blake finds himself hitched in a marriage of convenience to his ex-wife, Hope. All in the name of saving her beloved alpaca from becoming her greedy cousin’s property.

In the previous books, Hope and Blake hated each other. But you know how there’s a fine line between love and hate? As it turns out, they don’t hate each other much at all. The situation that leads to their marriage is far-fetched, but it lends to lots of funny moments. And there’s good chemistry between Blake and Hope. He never wanted to get divorced after their spontanous Vegas wedding, and he hasn’t gotten over Hope in the years that have passed. And as much as Hope doesn’t believe in true love or happy marriage, she’s never gotten over Blake, either. When push comes to shove and Hope needs to save her alpaca and her animal sanctuary, Blake stands up in every way that matters, proving to Hope that she can rely on someone other than herself.

The characters in this series are all up in each other’s business, and Hitched is no different. This book has all of the crazy antics of the other Happy Cat books, those glorious O’Dell brothers, and the ladies they love.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: The Last Post, by Renee Carlino

In this evocative and poignant novel from the USA TODAY bestselling author Renee Carlino of Blind Kiss and Wish You Were Here, a young widow in the midst of grieving her late husband through Facebook posts learns to heal and fall in love again.

“See you on the other side.”

Laya Marston’s husband, Cameron, a daredevil enthusiast, always said this before heading off on his next adventure. He was the complete opposite of her, ready and willing to dive off a cliff-face, or parachute across a canyon—and Laya loved him for it. But she was different: pragmatic, regimented, devoted to her career and to supporting Cameron from the sidelines of his death-defying feats.

Opposites attract, right?

But when Cameron dies suddenly and tragically, all the stages of grief go out the window. Laya becomes lost in denial, living in the delusion that Cameron will come back to her. She begins posting on his Facebook page, reminiscing about their life together, and imagining new adventures for the two of them.

Micah Evans, a young and handsome architect at Laya’s father’s firm, is also stuck––paralyzed by the banal details of his career, his friendships, and his love life. He doesn’t know what he’s looking for, only that there is someone out there who can bring energy and spirit to the humdrum of his life.

When Micah discovers Laya’s tragic and bizarre Facebook posts, he’s determined to show Laya her life is still worth living. Leaving her anonymous gifts and notes, trying to recreate the sense of adventure she once shared with her late husband, Micah finds a new passion watching Laya come out of the darkness. And Laya finds a new joy in the experiences Micah has created for her.

But for Laya, letting another man in still feels like a betrayal to her late husband. Even though Micah may be everything she could wish for, she wonders if she deserves to find happiness again.

Written with Renée Carlino’s signature “tender and satisfying” (Taylor Jenkins Reid, author of Maybe in Another Life) prose, this warm and compassionate novel shows us how powerful the courage to love and live again truly is.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 2 Stars

I really wanted to like this book. But I just could not connect with the characters, and the story dragged as a result.

Six months after her husband’s death, Laya is still communicating with him through his Facebook page. Micah, who works with Laya’s dad, feels a strong connection to her and begins to respond in person to the things that Laya’s writing about. Bringing her flowers, taking her to her favorite noodle place….

The whole time, I kept hearing the Police song “I’ll Be Watching You” in my mind and thought Micah was more stalker than romantic. And Laya attacking him for random sex in a bar bathroom five minutes after meeting? No thanks. I just could not get behind caring for them as a couple.

The only other R.C. book I’ve read is Blind Kiss, which I thought was phenomenal. And I have friends who devour every R.C. book they get their hands on. I’m hoping that this was just an off read for me. I received an advanced copy via NetGalley and the publisher and voluntarily left a review.

Already Gone, an all-new standalone contemporary romance by New York Times bestselling author Kristen Proby and USA Today bestselling author K.L. Grayson

Falling in love is easy…

New Hope, South Carolina is my home. It’s where I grew up, got into trouble, and fell in love for the first time. Scarlett Kincaid was more than the girl next door, she was my best friend, until she decided that small town life wasn’t for her. One minute she was here, and the next she was gone.

The girl I used to fish with down at the creek is now the biggest name in country music. She headlines world tours, has won four Grammys, and I haven’t seen her since. Until today when she sped through town in her fancy car. One look at her big brown eyes was all it took to stir up a whole slew of emotions. Emotions I’d long ago buried and sure as hell don’t have time for.

It’s the aftermath that’s hard…

There are two things in my life that matter. My music, and my dad. Twelve years ago, I packed a bag and chased my dream. Leaving New Hope and escaping the gossip mill was the easiest decision I ever made. I never planned to return, but my father needs me, and he always comes first. So, I did what I had to do. I cut my tour short and came home, despite having a sister who hates me, and a community that doesn’t trust me.

And then there’s Tucker Andrews.

When he propped an arm on the roof of my car, pulled down his sunglasses and flashed his police badge, I nearly swallowed my tongue. Gone is the lanky boy who used to throw rocks at me and pull my pigtails. Tucker is now a six-foot package of brawny, sexy man wrapped in more muscle than I have hit singles. Did I mention he’s a cop and a single dad?

My goal was to help Dad, and get back to my life. But what am I supposed to do when the life that used to strangle me suddenly fits like a glove, and makes me dream of things I never thought I’d have? What happens when the boy I walked away from years ago becomes one of the most important people in my life? I don’t have room for a man much less love.

Right?

Because it’s impossible to hold onto someone who’s already gone.

Already Gone Landing Page: https://www.kristenprobyauthor.com/already-gone

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I love best friends to lovers, and Already Gone has the bonus of being a small-town, single dad and the country superstar romance, too!

It’s been 12 years since Scarlett left New Hope, and she hasn’t looked back. She’s traveled the world, and has scores of adoring fans. But when she’s called back home to care for her dad after he has a stroke, Scarlett worries that her small hometown will suffocate her. She never imagined that she’d find love with her childhood best friend and fix the relationship with her estranged sister. But when her celebrity career and Tucker’s small-town life clash, will they be able to compromise or is Scarlett already gone?

I loved how Tucker and Scarlett dealt with the changing tone of their friendship and transitioned into such an easy romance. It’s like they were meant to be together all along. Tucker’s daughter, Chloe, was an interesting age at 11, because she was old enough to be a major character, and have her own relationship with Scarlett. So the impact of Scarlett’s work obligations affected her as well.

This book had all the feels. Right down to the in-the-future epilogue that had me in tears. Great chemistry, lots of use of the main characters’ history, and an entertaining cast of supporting players. This was a great collab between Grayson and Proby, and I hope they plan stories for Scooter and Dean!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt:

New Hope, South Carolina.

Population 6,129.

I know every soul represented in that number. Not a single one of them drives the shiny red Mercedes that just went speeding by.

Seventy-five in a forty-five.

I flick on my lights and press on the gas, sending my cruiser flying past the city limit sign and the godawful billboard that sits directly behind it; the one declaring New Hope home to country music superstar, Scarlett Kincaid.

It wouldn’t be a big deal if this were actually her home. It’s not. Scarlett may have been born here, but her fancy boots haven’t landed on this soil in over a decade.

All it took was one call from a hotshot music executive to send her packing before the ink was dry on her high school diploma. Scarlett flew from this town fast enough to leave our heads spinning. Before any of us could process what had happened, little Scarlett Kincaid—the same girl who used to build forts with me in my living room while my mama made us mac ‘n’ cheese—had a hit single sitting at number one on the Billboard charts.

She went from homecoming queen and most likely to marry a rich spouse in our senior yearbook, to the queen of country music.

The country loves her. Hell, the whole world loves her.

New Hope…not so much. And it’s high time that fucking sign comes down.

But first, I have to deal with this speed demon in the sexy red car.

I sound the sirens, and the car pulls to the side of the road and waits while I walk to the driver’s side window. It’s still up, the heavy tint preventing me from seeing inside. With a hand on my holster—because you never know what you’re going to walk up on—I knock on the window.

The dark glass lowers.

My first thought: this woman is absolutely gorgeous. Long, dark hair. Pouty lips. And a tiny pink dress. Her eyes are covered by oversized aviators, but I’m sure they’re as pretty as the rest of her.

My second thought: what crazy excuse is she going to come up with to try and get out of this ticket? It never ceases to amaze me the things women are willing to do to keep from getting into trouble. I’ve been offered everything from a blowjob to a pay-off to marriage.

“Do you know why I pulled you over today, ma’am?”

“Tucker?” The woman smiles, then pushes her sunglasses to the top of her head. And that’s when I see the brown eyes I’ve spent more than a decade trying to forget. “Tucker Andrews, is that you?”

I step back and square my shoulders. “You can call me Officer Andrews. Do you know why I pulled you over today, ma’am?”

“Tucker.” The woman laughs and shakes her head. “It’s me, Scarlett.”

At the mention of her name, I’m met with an onslaught of flashbacks. Running hand and hand through the neighborhood with her, laughing and playing, only to have her ignore me the second we got to school. The popular crowd versus the nerds who desperately tried to fit in. She the former, me the latter, and the pain it caused every time she acted as though she didn’t know my name. For years, I pretended it didn’t bother me because I knew that when I got home, Scarlett would meet me at the fence, and the awkwardness from the day would dissipate as though it never happened.

But it did. Day after day after day. I was a glutton for punishment. There was nothing in the world I loved more than Scarlett Kincaid, and it didn’t matter how badly she hurt me, I was always willing to forgive her.

Her smile and laugh might’ve gotten to me in middle school and high school, but I refuse to let it affect me now.

“I know who you are.”

Her smile falters.

About Kristen:

Kristen was born and raised in a small resort town in her beloved Montana. In her mid-twenties, she decided to stretch her wings and move to the Pacific Northwest, where she made her home for more than a dozen years.

During that time, Kristen wrote many romance novels and joined organizations such as RWA and other small writing groups. She spent countless hours in workshops, and more mornings than she can count up before the dawn so she could write before going to work. She submitted many manuscripts to agents and editors alike, but was always told no. In the summer of 2012, the self-publishing scene was new and thriving, and Kristen had one goal: to publish just one book. It was something she longed to cross off of her bucket list.

Not only did she publish one book, she’s since published close to thirty titles, many of which have hit the USA Today, New York Times and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists. She continues to self publish, best known for her With Me In Seattle and Boudreaux series, and is also proud to work with William Morrow, a division of HarperCollins, with the Fusion Series.

Kristen and her husband, John, make their home in her hometown of Whitefish, Montana with their two pugs and two cats.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Kiss Me Not, by Emma Hart

KMN-BANNER-LIVE

What do you do when you’re the reigning kissing booth champion but the only person you want to kiss is your best friend’s brother?

Kiss Me Not, an all-new hilarious brother’s best friend romance from New York Times bestselling author Emma Hart is available now!

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000035_00027]

Let me make this clear right here, right now: I, Halley Dawson, do not care that Preston Wright is kissing other women.

Not a lick. Not at all. Nuh-uh-freakin’-uh.

I do care that he’s doing it six feet away from me behind a gaudy velvet curtain—making him my competition in this year’s kissing contest.

Why do I care, you ask? Because I’ve had an unfortunate crush on the insufferable idiot since I was sixteen years old, but I also know it’s never going to happen.

He’s the Creek Falls bachelor to die for, and I’m the Creek Falls racoon lady who puts peanut butter sandwiches out for them every night.

I’m not going to let him break my four-year-long reign—no matter how many times he breaks the rules and slides the curtain across to do the one thing he’s not allowed to:

Kiss me.

Excerpt:

“I never answered your question.”

“What question?” I darted my eyes to the side.

“Just now. You asked me if I wanted to kiss you.”

I did, didn’t I? Right. “Oh,” was all I said.

Slowly, he moved his hand to my chin and gently lifted it. Still, I didn’t look at him, keeping my eyes firmly trained on the front of the tent, even though I was facing him.

“Halley.”

“Yeah?”

“I want to kiss you.”

My eyes darted to his.

“I thought that’d do it.” His lips twitched, and he lowered his head until I had to fight the urge to close my eyes in anticipation of the kiss that was coming.

I swallowed, my lips parting.

Preston moved closer.

And he kissed my cheek.

I jerked out of whatever trance I’d just been in. “What the hell?”

He jumped off the stage, grinning. “I guess we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to break the stalemate, won’t we?”

“Oh, hell no!” I jumped off, stalking him to his side of the stage. “You just stood there in front of me and told me you want to kiss me, then kiss my cheek? The hell was that?”

His eyebrows shot up, amusement flashing in his eyes. “If I didn’t know better, I’d think you wanted to kiss me, too.”

“Irrelevant,” I shot back. “But you’re a special kind of asshole to tell a girl you wanna kiss her and then not do it.” I turned around, then stopped. “You know what? When I beat you tomorrow, you can kiss my ass.”

“You’re way too mad about this.”

“I’m not mad!” My voice raised a few octaves. “I couldn’t care if you want to kiss me or not. I most certainly don’t want to kiss you.”

“Why are you shouting at me?”

“I’m not—” I was shouting at him. “Whatever,” I said in a normal voice. “Make sure you take that money to the bank. Tell Tish I sent you.”

I left him on his side of the curtain and went to get my purse. He could get fucked. After all that where I think I was so damn nervous I broke a sweat, he didn’t even kiss me.

I wasn’t lying with what I said.

He could kiss my ass.

I’d even wear my good panties and bend over for him.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Super-cute small town romance with all of the Emma Hart sass, snark and emotion that I’ve come to love! A librarian, a florist, a pet racoon and a kissing contest… what’s not to love?

Halley is the reigning kissing booth champ in her town’s annual summer fair. Her competition this year is none other than Preston, her best friend’s older brother, whom she hates. But there’s a fine line between love and hate because the truth is, Halley has had a crush on Preston for years. But will she be able to sit behind him for days on end, listening to him smooch other women when she wants to be kissing him herself?

This was a fun enemies-to-friends-to-lovers story. It seems like it takes Preston and Halley FOREVER to get to “that point” in their relationship, but EH really does let things simmer while their relationship builds stronger and stronger.

I love the appearance by Lauren and Mason from Accidental Girlfriend! I can’t wait to see what happens with Halley’s friends, Ava and Reagan, in the rest of the Kiss series.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
