TLH cover.jpg

He’s supposed to be the ruler of this kingdom.
The prince poised to take his rightful place on the pitch.
Instead, he plays the jester, shunning his legacy.
Only I am privy to his lion heart.

Kingston Phillips is the heir to England’s football dynasty. The offspring of two of the world’s greatest players, the expectations set on his shoulders could crush the universe. But the golden-haired Adonis chooses to live his life as a game; a series of nightclubs, brawls, pranks and different kit chasers parading through his sheets.

I’m the last woman he should chase, and I’ve told him so. My cheeky mouth and icy demeanor guard the secret no one can learn. But when the Casanova I’ve been avoiding becomes the bloke next door, he quickly begins to thaw the frost around my heart. Kingston shows me the ferocious, loyal, protective side of himself that no one else gets to witness.

I begin to realize that he’s just as damaged as I am.
That as much as I try to deny it, we’re the same.
And … that might just be our undoing.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Lion Heart is book 2 in Carrie Aarons’ Rogue Academy series. Kingston is a mate of Jude’s from Second Coming, but this story is a true standalone.

Wow, Kingston ended up being nothing like he comes off as in the beginning of Lion Heart. This was an absolutely fantastic enemies-to-lovers story between the partying, womanizer football star and the rigid, uptight, aloof supermodel, Poppy. But underneath her icy exterior and his playboy facade are two incredibly damaged abuse survivors, and once they realize they are more alike than either of them imagine, Kingston and Poppy heal one another as they heal themselves.

Teaser 2.jpg

There is such a fantastic arc in this story, and Kingston grows so much from the guy in the prologue to the guy in the end. As she stands by his side and believes that he is more than the fraud he presents to the world, he proves to be a fierce protector, a gentle soul with a loving heart. Who knew the manwhore who was always told by his parents that he was a disappointment could be so gentle and loving with a victim of sexual abuse?

Once Kingston and Poppy let down their fake fronts, they opened themselves up to a world of trust and love and acceptance that neither of them could ever have imagined.

I love the nuggets we got about Vance’s lost love, and can’t wait to see how his story unfolds!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

PP’s Bookshelf – “Sexy. Emotional. Angsty. Real. Honest. Heartbreaking. Swoonworthy. Heartwarming.”

Bibliophile Chloe – “Ms. Dunbar doesn’t fail to amaze me with her writing of mature characters, still full of life, still wanting to find love and the holy hotness of the chemistry and smexy times!”

Cee Cee Houston – “L.B. Dunbar has found her niche. The over 40’s is definitely a trope she does extremely well.”

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Oh my gosh, I adored Giant and Cricket! Silver Brewer is the first in a new series, which is a spin-off off LB’s rocker series. Giant is the eldest before or Mati from Second Chance. He’s a widower, medically discharged from the service, and he’s just kind of been existing in life until the day that chipper Letty walks onto his mountain, wanting to buy the property. Suddenly, there is a spark in his life that Giant didn’t know was missing.

There is an instant connection between them, and they grow VERY close while camping on that mountaintop. Holy hotness!! While they try to make the long-distance relationship work, things get really complicated when Letty gets a baby to adopt. Is a second family something he wants? Will Letty relocate to Georgia?

There is a lot of miscommunication between them at times because neither one will say what they really feel. Which was kind of immature for a 40 and 50 year old. But I get that Letty didn’t want to ask Giant to raise a second family when he’s already done so. While that was frustrating at times, there is so much vulnerability that Giant shows with Letty that i found him totally lovable.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

“Before you try to steal my land, perhaps you should learn a thing or two about it.”

I stare up at him as his expression turns virile.

“I know this piece of property could earn you millions.” I look beyond him, taking in the small bit of landscape I can see around his broad hips and crossed arms.
“I told you, I don’t want the money.” He scoffs. “I’m talking about dirt under your toes. Wind in your face. Stars in your eyes.” His eyes nearly dance as though he has undisclosed information he’s waiting to share with me, and strangely, I want to know his secret. And though dirt under my toes doesn’t sound pleasant, it doesn’t sound terrible either.
Still.

Tell me. Tell me all your wisdom and woes. I swallow with the intensity of his glare and rub a hand down the thigh of my jeans.

“Okay, so I’m not Pocahontas. How would I learn?” My voice cracks, sounding meek. Teach me, Yoda.
“From the land.” He pauses. His crossed arms bulge before me and lift with the heave of his frustrated inhale. What would those arms feel like around me?
“And your land will just teach me?” Oh God. Did my voice just drop? Did I exaggerate your land, implying something other than the greenery around us? Damn Marcus and his damnable innuendos, but if this man means I can hike his landscape, I volunteer as tribute. “How?”
“Camping.”
“What?” I stammer. My mouth falls open.
“Camping. Three nights of roughing it and then I’ll think about your proposition. You break before that and no deal.”

My proposition? Did I proposition him? Can he see the images racing through my mind? I want to do all kinds of things to him, starting with the body part closest to me. My heart races, and my sweaty palms…sweat more. My breath catches.

Anything whispers through my mind along with the song “Colors of the Wind.”

My eyes narrow. My heart thuds to a screeching halt.

This is crazy.

But I slowly rise, pressing up on my thigh as I stand. I come to my full height, which doesn’t quite match his, but with the help of the two step difference, I’m close. My gaze meets his fiery eyes. There’s one thing this man needs to learn about me. I like nothing more than to prove others wrong.
“Challenge accepted.”

L.B. Dunbar loves the sweeter things in life: cookies, Coca-Cola, and romance. Her reading journey began with a deep love of fairy tales and alpha males. She loves a deep belly laugh and a strong hug. Occasionally, she has the energy of a Jack Russell terrier. Accused—yes, that’s the correct word—of having an overactive imagination, to her benefit, such an imagination works well. Author of over two dozen novels, she’s created sexy rom-coms for the over 40; intrigue on an island; MMA chaos; rock star mayhem, and sweet small-town romance. In addition, she earned a title as the “myth and legend lady” for her modernizations of mythology as elda lore. Her other duties in life include mother to four children and wife to the one and only.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Forget The Stars, by Kelsey Kingsley

Title: Forget the Stars
Author: Kelsey Kingsley
Genre: Friends-to-lover/2nd Chance Romance
Release Date: August 26, 2019
Cover Design: Danny Manzella
“From August 26 to September 26, 2019, 10% of all proceeds will be donated to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.”

“There is just something about a vulnerable hero that gets me every time and Chad Wilcox was no exception. His pain becomes your pain thanks to Kelsey’s descriptive writing and the ability to invoke emotional pull. And, with a nickname like Chaddington Bear, he is everything.” – Bree, Goodreads reviewer

“I’m a big Kelsey fan, so I knew I’d love this book before knowing anything about it. What I didn’t know is how deep it would move me. I should have known though, because she always finds a way to break the mold and set a new standard of excellence.” – Katie, Goodreads reviewer

“This is one of those times I am thanking my lucky stars I took a chance on a new-to-me author. The writing was engaging, smart, and effortless to read. The storytelling was honest and sweetly addicting. I craved it when I wasn’t reading it, I wanted to sink into it for hours, lose time with these wonderful characters and their original, adorable, emotionally satisfying love story. I can’t say it enough: I loved it! I adored it! This is an absolute MUST read!” – Bookgasms Book Blog

Guitarist Chad Wilcox’s life isn’t going according to plan.
At thirty, he never thought he’d still be unmarried and living with his parents. And with the added stress of his poor health, he’s convinced the only thing within his control is the success he’s found as a rockstar.

After reconnecting with his childhood best friend, Chad sets into motion a new plan to regain control over his happiness, and things start looking up. But when he finds himself diagnosed with a potentially debilitating chronic illness, he begins to wonder…
Is this as good as it’s going to get? Or is it at all possible for a guy like him to get everything he’s ever wished for?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Wow. I’ve read one or two of Kelsey Kingsley’s books before, and they were much… fluffier… than this story. Forget The Stars is raw, emotional and gritty, as guitarist Chad deals with a chronic illness that affects his life in every single way.

Chad may look like he’s living a charmed life, but as he turns 30 years old, he realizes that he’s not quite where he wants to be in life. The tatted rocker wants to get married and have a family, but his girlfriend is quite happy with the status quo of their relationship. Do they even have a relationship any more? Do they still make one another happy?

As he’s starting to question his life choices, Chad reconnects with Molly — his childhood best friend, the daughter of his mother’s best friend, whom he hasn’t seen in about 15 years. They drifted apart when they got to high school and their relationship suffered. As they renew their friendship, suddenly Chad is questioning everything about his life, wondering what he wants, what he doesn’t want. And when the stars align for Molly, a folksy singer, to be the band’s opener on their tour, things really start to heat up and Chad realizes that all he’s ever wanted lies in the eyes of the girl he used to lie under the stars with as a kid.

In the midst of his relationship reevaluation, Chad finds out that the stomach problems that have plagued him since he was a kid is actually ulcerative colitis. How the chronic disease affects him, his bandmates, his relationship with his girlfriend and his friendship with Molly is kind of intense. When it gets to the point where he nearly dies and can no longer ignore it, Molly is right there by his side, holding his hand through it all. But will his girlfriend give him the same kind of support? What kind of dating life will Chad have with this condition? Should he go public and tell his fans, or keep it a secret?

I had my doubts about Chad and Molly because of his wretched girlfriend, but he does end things there before starting anything with Molly. And I liked how their relationship just kind of progressed organically. One day, they both woke up and realized that their feelings for the other ran way deeper than being best friends. They do address the breakdown of their teenage friendship, which I was happy to read. I didn’t think it was something that could be glossed over and have me still be invested in them as a couple. KK deals with Chad’s illness very well, from the reality of how the disease affects patients to his public outing and how he and Molly reconcile what it means for them as a couple.

Forget The Stars is a standalone, but Chad’s bandmates have been the focus of previous books. I’m definitely interested in going back to check out those, and will be looking for young Grayson’s story in the future.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

“What’s that look for?” she asked with a giggle, as she reached around to secure her bra.

I shook my head as a smile stretched over my lips. “Nothin’. Just …” I swallowed at the warmth crowding my heart and my lungs. “You’re my best friend.”

She tugged a tank top on and sighed, her exhale lingering in the air. “You’re mine.”

Mine. The word was simple and yet held the world. It was an agreement, it was possession. It was an invisible contract that lingered between us, and I would’ve gladly used my own blood to sign on the dotted line.

But instead of pricking a finger and sealing the deal, I simply nodded, as only two words left my mouth.

“I’m yours.”

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Gah! Nobody does a love triangle like Lisa Suzanne!

After a few chapters that piece together events of the last, Intermission picks up right where Interception’s cliffhanger left off. Laney is torn between her high school love and high school best friend, one a rock god and the other a football superstar. But learning that one was keeping a shocking secret sends her right into the arms of the other. And guess what? He has a secret of his own.

When Delaney takes off to spend some time alone, will Chase or Gavin be the one to win back her heart? There are so many twists and turns in this story, and I kept going back and forth about whose team I was one! I really didn’t know who would be the better guy for Laney!

At the end of the day, Laney has a decision to make — and I do hope there is a story in the works for the guy that Laney didn’t pick!

EXCERPT

It’s at that point I notice Billie climbing from the car. Although, if Mel hadn’t told me, I’d never have recognised the girl standing on my drive as Billie Wild.

She closes the car door and turns towards me.

Silence.

She stares down at her feet as she moves slowly along my driveway. When she reaches the front of the car, she looks up. The bluest of blue eyes meet mine, and she stops moving.

Deafening silence.

No birds singing.

No traffic sounds.

The silence is so loud it hurts my ears.

What. The. Actual. Fuck?

She takes a step towards me, and my hearing returns. The gravel crunches beneath her green biker boots, a pigeon coos, brakes screech, engines rev . . . a bomb could fucking drop, but nothing, not a single thing can divert my attention from Billie Wild as she moves towards me.

TEASERS

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

All The Forbidden Things is full of steam and angst and a devoted single dad trying not to think dirty thoughts about his nanny. Who happens to be his best friend’s little sister.

When rock god Max finds himself single with an infant daughter to raise, Billie returns to his life like an angel. Well, returns as a nanny, at least. She’s always had a crush on him, and now he’s seeing her in a new light. But she’s got some baggage she’s lugging around to work through, and he’s trying to adjust to getting through a divorce, dealing with a wretched ex, raising a baby, dominating the rock charts… and trying not to fall for his best friend’s little sister.

There’s a lot going on between Max and Billie. Even thought I don’t think the “brother’s best friend” trope automatically makes it forbidden, there is a nice journey between Max and Billie as they try to navigate their relationship. He shows some real vulnerability with her, and that made him all the more sexy and endearing.

How could you not love sexy Stuart Reardon in all his tatted-up glory on that cover?? I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Lesley was born and raised in a small working-class town in Essex, just outside of East London. She’s married with three sons and in 2006 they all moved to the other side of the world, settling on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula, about fifty kilometres outside of Melbourne, Australia.

Lesley is currently ‘a stay at home mum’, but in the past, she has worked at ‘good old Mark & Spencer’ for thirteen years and as a teacher’s assistant. As well as writing, Lesley loves to read and has been known to get through four or five books a week, when she’s not writing that is.

Her other interests are watching her boys play football… the round ball version. She’s happy to admit to being an addict of social media and owes a lot to her Facebook and Twitter family in promoting her book. Lesley is also rather partial to a glass or bottle of wine, a nicely chilled Marlborough Sav Blanc being her favourite.

Being a born and raised Essex girl, she will happily admit being a big fan of spray tans, manis, pedis, and is regularly, waxed, tinted and sculpted, although she doesn’t own a pair of white stilettos.

Blurb:
“A romance for our times. Relevant and real with all the feels.”—Meredith Wild, #1 New York Times Bestseller

From USA Today bestseller Nelle L’Amour, a sizzling and suspenseful second chance romance like none other.

Skye:

It was love at first sight with Finn. The downtown bad boy with the piercing blue eyes, tattooed biceps, and museum-worthy chiseled body. But while he struggled, I was driven. An investigative reporter determined to pursue the truth to get my story. My credo: Dig deep, then dig deeper. Then one time, I dug too deep and literally dug my own grave, losing everything and everyone dear to me.

Until life gave me a second chance.

Finn:

Being a renowned artist and single dad isn’t easy. My demanding fiancée doesn’t help. No matter how much I try, she wants nothing to do with my precious five-year-old daughter.

Then she came along. The hot as sin teacher. Scarlet Callahan. She’s everything my fiancée isn’t. Warm, funny, and down-to-earth, she adores my daughter as much as my daughter adores her. I’m inexplicably attracted to her, but she keeps her distance. Like she’s hiding something. Except I’m going to uncover her secret even if it means risking everything I’ve ever wanted.

And everyone I’ve ever loved.

Excerpt:
I pull away as fast as my lips captured hers. Fuck. What the hell did I just do? I just kissed my daughter’s teacher. And what’s worse, I more than liked it. Everything about the kiss felt so delicious, so familiar. Like our mouths have known each other forever. She melted right into me, willingly, and I could tell from her sexy sounds and breathing she felt everything I did. I wanted more of her in the worst way, so badly an erection strained against my jeans as my tongue tangled with hers. I’m still hard as a rock. Make that steel.

Catching my breath, I drop my hands from her face and stare at her. She looks shell-shocked. Her porcelain skin flushed, her kissable lips still parted, her misty eyes frozen wide. Her breathing, harsh like mine, her perfect breasts quivering with each labored breath. Her eyes stay fixed on me, finally blinking. As if she’s trying to make sense of what just happened.

“I’m sorry,” I breathe out, not knowing what else to say. Shit. What came over me? But to be blatantly honest, I want my lips back on hers, her body in my arms so badly I can scream. Between my legs, my cock is throbbing. Aching for more of her.

Silently registering my two lame words, she continues to breathe hard. The rest of her is paralyzed. I’ve probably given her some kind of anxiety attack. Her glistening lips start to tremble, but words don’t form. A panic button goes off inside me.

“Are you okay?” My heart races as I anxiously await her response.

Finally, after a few seconds, she nods. And one word is whispered. “Yes.”

“Scarlet, please forgive me.”

Sliding my legs off the coffee table, I hastily fold my arms over my lap to cover up my erection.

“I didn’t mean to assault—”

She cuts me off, her face softening. “You didn’t. You kissed me. And I let you.”

At her tenderly spoken words, relief washes over me. Her words reconfirm what I felt. She wanted my lips on hers. She could have fought me off, but she didn’t. She let me deepen the kiss with my tongue, hold her face in my hands.

Despite my relief, I falter again for an excuse. “Honestly, I don’t know what got into me. It was totally impulsive.”

“Yes, it was impulsive.”

“I got carried away.”

“Me too.”

Her eyes drop to the coffee table, landing on our empty bottle of Merlot and depleted glasses. Then, they wander to my crotch. Her brows lift ever so slightly, suggesting she knows what I’m hiding. I cringe with embarrassment before she snaps her head up.

“It must have been the wine.”

“Yeah, for sure the wine.”

She quirks a half-smile. “It was really good.”

“I can open another bottle if you want more.”

Almost instantly, I regret my offer. And my double entendre. I’m asking for trouble. I’m already drunk enough with lust for this woman. What the fuck is wrong with me? I’m engaged. She works for me. With my kid!

She’s totally off limits.

Forbidden.

Fortunately, she declines my offer. The smile on her face fades and is replaced by a sober expression. Her voice grows quiet and serious, and under it, I can detect uncertainty and a hint of regret.

“Finn, I’m going to call it a night.”

I remain silent as she rises from the sofa. I study her face; she looks to be verging on tears again. Unsteady, she sucks in a breath like she needs to fortify herself.

“Finn, let’s forget this ever happened.”

And with that she stumbles away, leaving me bereft and confused.

Slouching against the couch, I throw back my head and blow out a hot breath. It does nothing to clear the fog in my head or the tension between my legs. The throb in my cock, the ache in my balls.

Let’s forget this ever happened.

Easier said than done. I can’t stop thinking about her.

As the flaming logs in the fireplace crackle, I relive that kiss, that incredible kiss, and seek the relief I crave.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Inspired by the #MeToo movement, Remember Me is a bit of a second-chance romance, a bit of a mystery, and a very compelling read.

Investigative reporter Skye literally places her life on the line to track a story and blow the whistle on a Hollywood powerhouse. She ends up losing it all, leaving behind her husband and baby daughter. Four years later, a twist of fate places Skye back into Finn’s world, but will she be able to make him remember and realize who she is? And will she be able to figure out who tried to kill her before they strike again?

I loved the connection between these two. Even though Skye/Scarlett is completely physically different, there is a pull between her and Finn that they can’t deny. There are some twists and turns as they navigate their reunion in the wake of his breakup with his wretched fiancee, and try to trap the Hollywood producer who was behind her murder attempt. But there are plenty of sweet moments with their adorable daughter as well, and the moment where Finn realizes who Scarlett the tutor really is…. Wow! That is a scene to remember!

Having read several other books by Nelle, I loved the Easter eggs dropped along the way, mentions of characters from previous books: Blake and Jenny, Zoey, Willow, Gloria… and she tied it all together with a sexual predator who had been a secondary character in a previous book. Great job!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

About the Author:
Guess what!? I was one of the co-creators and original producers of the TV series, Power Rangers. I oversaw the first one-hundred classic episodes, and I wrote/co-wrote many of them. I know…it’s hard to believe I went from kids’ shows to erotic romances, but I did. It’s a long story and if you meet me at a book signing, I’ll tell you everything.

So today, my alter-ego, Nelle L’Amour, is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who lives in Los Angeles with her Prince Charming-ish husband, twin college-bound princesses, and a bevy of royal pain-in-the-butt pets. A former executive in both the entertainment and toy industrues with a prestigious Humanitas Prize for promoting human dignity and freedom to my credit, I gave up playing with Barbies a long time ago, but I still enjoy playing with toys with my hubby. While I write in my PJs, I love to get dressed up and pretend I’m Hollywood royalty. My steamy stories feature characters that will make you laugh, cry, and swoon and stay in your heart forever. And they’re often inspired by my past life.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Hate The Game, by Holly Hall

RELEASE BLITZ

Title: Hate the Game

Author: Holly Hall

Genre: RomCom

Release Date: September 12, 2019

BLURB

My official title: Relationship Consultant. A modern-day, one-sided matchmaker. When I approach relationships like a formula, it’s simple really. If only I had the same success in my personal life.

My gorgeous neighbor turns me into a fumbling mess, and I don’t exactly match the leggy, model-types I’ve seen him with. Despite the fact that we’re total opposites, our chemistry is almost hot enough to convince me to give the dating game another try. Not to mention, it’s totally off-brand to be a relationship skeptic.

What could it hurt to practice what I preach? After all, Theo Hartley would be a fun specimen to practice with. And if things go south—which is my luck—I just have to remember what I tell my clients:

don’t hate the player…

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Hate The Game is a cute and quirky neighbor romcom with one of the most awkward meet-cutes ever! I will never look at sumo wrestlers the same way again!

“Relationship consultant” Ava is nothing like the leggy model types she sees traipsing in and out of Theo’s apartment across the hall. She’s short and curvy, socially awkward, and he’s a fitness god who literally owns a gym. But there’s a definite spark between them. And the more Ava tries to just “test out” her practices on Theo, the more she discovers that the guy she least expected to fall for may be all that she’s ever wanted.

Ava and Theo are a great pair. They have an easy rapport, and I really liked the way they were written. The dialogue never felt clunky or unnatural, and the story flows nicely. The only other Holly Hall book I’ve read is Somewhere Between Us, and that was a vastly different story. Amazing in its own right, but full of drama and angst. Hate The Game is a much more lighthearted story, and I give HH props for being able to write such wildly different, but fantastic, stories.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Title: Stay With Me
Author: Jessica Prince
Series: Hope Valley
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Rory Hightower had a good life. She had a loving family, great friends, and a job she adored, running Hope Valley’s local watering hole, The Tap Room. But there was just one thing missing. Ever since she was a little girl, she knew there was one special guy out there just for her. Her dream man. And when Cord walked into her bar, she knew instantly it was him. Which made losing him all the more painful.

Cord Paulson had only ever had one person he could depend on. And that bond ran deep. But when he moved to Hope Valley and met the breathtaking bartender with the bright blue eyes and stunning smile, he felt an instant connection. He wanted Rory from the moment he laid eyes on her. But when his past came back, and his loyalties were put to the test, he made the biggest mistake of his life.

Then one night changes everything. After avoiding him for months, Rory has no choice but to lower her guard and let him back in. And Cord plans to use that to his full advantage. He’s determined to repair the damage he caused to her heart and win her back. He may have lost the love of his life once already, but there’s no way he’ll make the same mistake twice.

“I find out the love of your life saunters back in town, searching you out, and you didn’t even bother to tell me! I’ve been down this road before, Cord, and if you remember, I got my ass burned, so excuse me for not wanting to make a second trip.”

“For fuck’s sake,” he rumbled, finally taking a step back, giving him room to lift those long, strong arms so he could rake his fingers through his sexy hair in frustration. “She’s not the love of my life. Did I love her at one point? Yeah. I’ve been up front about that with you. But I’ve also been up front about the fact that those feelings in me died a long time ago. I haven’t loved her in a long fuckin’ time, Rory.” Before I could object and point out it wasn’t that long ago, he continued. “What I felt for her when she showed up wasn’t love, it was obligation. You know that too.”

“Then why didn’t you tell me she was back?” I snapped, refusing to get my hopes up.

“Because I haven’t even thought about it!” he snarled. “Christ, Rory! She showed up, made her play at Alpha Omega, and I shot her the fuck down.”

My mouth dropped open in shock. “You… what?”

“I shot her down. And I did it in a way that she couldn’t misinterpret at all, baby. And if that hadn’t been enough, the way Linc, Xander, and Rox laid into her solidified my point. After I said what I needed to say, I walked away. And yeah, it pissed me off, but once I was done feelin’ that, I put it outta my mind and never went back to it. I’ve been too consumed thinking about you for the past seven goddamn months to even give her a second thought.”

Oh god. Okay. I really liked that.

“But… if that’s the case, why haven’t you kissed me?”

His chin jerked back in surprise. “What?”

“All those times recently I thought you were going to kiss me… you were right there, and I thought any second you were going to do it. Then you pulled back and walked away from me. If you weren’t thinking about her, why’d you do that?”

“Because you said all you could give me was your friendship,” he barked, throwing his arms wide. “Fuck, Rory. What the hell did you think I was gonna do, huh? Break the trust I’ve been workin’ my ass off to build back up with you? I’ve wanted you so long I don’t know how to feel anything else, but I couldn’t risk losin’ you again. Not when I just got you back.” His fingers went through his hair again as he grunted, “Jesus, what do you want from me?”

“I—” I quickly clamped my mouth shut as his eyes swung back to me.

“Jesus. Fuck me,” he said on a low, shocked grunt. “You wanted me to kiss you?”

My cheeks flamed with humiliation, but there was no point in denying it. I’d already dug the hole this deep; might as well keep going. “I tipped my face up and closed my eyes,” I said, reminding him of what happened in my parents’ living room. “When a woman presses close, tips her face up, and closes her eyes, just a heads-up, Cord, she wants to be kissed,” I finished on a snark.

His voice came out in a whisper as he repeated, “You wanted me to kiss you.”

“I thought you were going to, so yeah,” I admitted indignantly, “I wanted it. But now I—”

And that was all I got out before he moved, wrapped his arms around me in a vice grip, and slammed his lips down on mine.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I have been waiting for Cord and Rory’s story since the beginning of the Hope Valley series, and it did not disappoint! There was this electric chemistry between them in all of the other books, but Rory ignored him whenever possible. I was dying to know why! They were friends first, and as they were starting to fall for one another, Cord’s ex came back into his life and gave him an ultimatum. The second he chose Laurie over Rory, he knew he made a mistake but felt an obligation to give his relationship his all.

Two years later, Cord has kicked Laurie to the curb and is determined to work his way back into Rory’s life. She doesn’t make it easy for him. At all. He broke her trust, and Cord sets out to make it up to her. He’s wanted her since the first time he saw her, knows he made a mistake and is prepared to grovel. And like the rest of the Alpha Omega guys before him, Cord gets what he wants.

While this story doesn’t have the underlying thread of the drug dealer in town that the previous books had, it does have a sweet young orphan named Zach. Cord sees a lot of himself in Zach, having been a product of the foster system himself. When Rory decides to take Zach in and become his new foster mom, Cord is there for her every step of the way. It brings them much closer, and while it’s not an easy road with Zach, it’s a heartwarming one.

I’m not convinced that the “Laurie” Cord whispered in the prologue was actually Laurie at all. I’m sure it was actually “Rory”! I loved the journey that these two took, the twists and turns, and how they became an unconventional family with foster son Zach. They all got exactly what they needed: Zach a home, Rory the guy she prayed for, and Cord the family he never had as a child.

Well done, Jessica Prince! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Born and raised around Houston Texas, Jessica spent most of her life complaining about the heat, humidity, and all around pain in the ass weather. It was only as an adult that she quickly realized the cost of living in Houston made up for not being able to breathe when she stepped outside. That’s why God created central air, after all.

Jessica is the mother of a perfect little boy–she refuses to accept that he inherited her attitude and sarcastic nature no matter what her husband says.

In addition to being a wife and mom, she’s also a wino, a coffee addict, and an avid lover of all types of books–romances still being her all time favs. Her husband likes to claim that reading is her obsession but she just says it’s a passion…there’s a difference. Not that she’d expect a boy to understand.

Jessica has been writing since she was a little girl, but thankfully grew out of drawing her own pictures for her stories before ever publishing her first book. Because an artist she is not.

Blurb:
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been the dark to my sister’s light—the awkward loner to her social butterfly. Growing up, she had it all: our parent’s unyielding approval, perfect grades, a permanent spot at the popular table, and the attention of the hottest guy ever—Duke Kincaid.

After eighteen years of living in her shadow, I couldn’t wait to escape—to finally be my own person. Yet here I am, I’m back in my hometown, once again in Valorie’s shadow. Only now, it’s eternal.

I had life all planned out: join the force, marry Valorie Parsons, and start a family of our own. I have the job, but the girl and all my dreams died before my very eyes.

Finally ready to move on, I agree to a blind date. Imagine my shock when I arrive and find, Valorie’s twin sister, waiting across the table from me. Mallory should be a reminder of all that I’ve lost, but instead she feels like my redemption . . . like maybe life’s giving me a second chance.

But, how can I be enough for her when I’ve already given her sister the best of me?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

After reading Best Of Intentions (Jenny and Nate’s story), I was really excited for Duke to get his book. I wanted him to meet someone who would heal his heart after the death of his girlfriend, Valorie. I never expected it to be her estranged twin, Mallory!

Mallory did not have a good relationship with her parents, and as a result of her mother’s abuse, her relationship with Val suffered. Mallory left for college on a scholarship and never looked back. Now 8 years later, she’s moved 15 minutes from her hometown to take a teaching job and rents Jenny’s sweet little cabin.

Duke has to bail on helping Jenny’s new renter move in because Val’s mom is having a meltdown. All he knows is that Mallory left her family behind, not even going to her twin’s funeral. So when Nate and Jenny set Duke up with Jenny’s new friend, he and Mallory are shocked to see one another. But what torments Duke even more is how, in the weeks that follow, he can’t stop thinking about the connection he feels to his dead girlfriend’s twin.

LK Farlow did a great job in exploring Duke’s inner conflict. He was so angry with Mallory for what he perceives, and there is a great confrontation between them when Mallory explains the terrors of her childhood. The push and pull between the two is fantastic as they both struggle with betraying the memory of Valorie.

I’ve read several of LKF’s books, and The Best Of Me is by far my favorite so far! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt:
Nate follows my line of sight and smirks. He may be my best friend and partner, but damn if I don’t want to knock that smarmy-ass look right off his face. And when he opens his mouth, the feeling intensifies. “It’s okay to—”

I shoot him a withering glare before stomping off toward Mallory.

I don’t stop until I’m close enough to feel the heat of her body. She has to tilt her head back to see me, and when our eyes meet, my name topples from her lips on a breathy sigh. “We need to talk.” My tone is all business—my cop voice, as Nate calls it—as I wrap my fingers around her forearm, prepared to drag her along behind me if necessary. Luckily, she comes all too willingly—so why am I still holding on to her?

The feeling of her soft, sun-warmed skin beneath my palm sends little zaps of electricity under my skin, into my muscle. Her nearness has me strung taut like a drawn bow. Here’s to hoping like hell I don’t snap.

Deep down, like really fucking deep, I know I’m acting like a colossal asshole, but much like a prepubescent boy picking on his schoolyard crush, it’s the only way I know how to deal with all of the conflicting feelings she stirs in me.

AMAZON

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Star

Wishing In The Dark is a heartfelt story about best friends, first loves, and returning home. And wishing on fireflies.

Julien and Poppy were next-door neighbors and best friends, who always relied on each other. When his parents fought, she would let him sneak into her bedroom at night to escape. When she found herself pregnant at 14, he was the only one (aside from her mother) who stood by her side — even though there had been some distance in their friendship. But when Julien’s parents move away the night after he kisses her for the first time, which happens to be the day of her beloved grandfather’s funeral, Poppy’s world falls apart. She’s lost Julien and her PawPaw, and a few weeks later, her baby.

Julien goes through some ups and downs in his own life as well before becoming a hot country music star. But when he feels like he’s lost, he heads back home to Wishing, Kansas, and comes face to face with the one girl he never forgot. Has too much time and hurt come between them? Will Julien be able to prove to P that she’s never been far from his mind or heart?

I read this story in a little over an hour. It’s short and sweet. But a lot of it is set in the past, when they are kids, when they are apart. There isn’t much to the part that takes place in the present day…. and the ending kind of shocked me. Seriously was not expecting that to happen at all. And I wished that there was MORE to their present-day relationship that I got to read about, because I felt kind of cheated. The epilogue brings things full circle, and I love the connection between their son and the mason jars that Poppy used to collect fireflies to make her wishes.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Colbie Kay always had a love for reading and wanted to pursue writing. In 2015 she made that dream come true when she published her first book. Since then she has become a stay-at-home mom, writing full-time and bringing her passion to life through the words she creates.

The most fulfilling part of being an author for Colbie is to take readers into a fantasy world between the pages of her books. Becoming an author has also given her the opportunity to fill another passion of hers, which is traveling. She loves being able to attend book signings and meeting everyone that shares her love of books.

Colbie has many more stories to share with you, so be sure to connect with her and keep up with what is coming next.
