Gwen:
I was stripped of all my own desires and wants when I was married to my ex-husband. I now carry a list with me–a list that will help me choose a man that will put me first in life. Then the storm cloud of an entitled millionaire appears in my life and knocks me off my axis. This man sends so many mixed signals, my body either quakes with anger or passion when I’m around him.I’m his son’s teacher and his tenant, but I find myself wanting more.
Leo:
My life is run with precision with little regard for others until a woman in crazy clothes challenges me to be a better father. She’s one of the few people that puts me in my place and maybe for this very reason–I want her more than I can articulate. With her failed marriage and list of requests she needs from her next partner, I know she’s my future. My life is less than perfect, and with it–baggage that follows me everywhere. Does she want my kind of crazy in her life?I’m her landlord and an a**hole, but I find myself wanting more.Where to begin? For starters, you must love coffee…After all, 425 Madison Avenue is the perfect place to fall in love. Each story is a complete standalone.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Must Love Coffee was all kinds of cute! I absolutely loved everything about Gwen and Leo, especially their not-so-meet-cute, when he accuses her of being a horrible teacher. And she throws it right back at him for not being a present parent. Leo is grumpy and arrogant… and the last person Gwen was expecting to be a parent calling for a playdate for her daughter.

These two are a perfect pair. They are both carrying around major baggage as a result of their first marriages, but they complement each other so well. Leo wants to give Gwen the world, and really sets out to prove to her that he’s nothing like her ex. For Leo, Gwen is a ray of sunshine breaking through the darkness of his life since his divorce. Their kids are adorable, and it’s an instant, Harry Potter-loving family.

This book is a standalone in a series set in a Manhattan apartment building. Each book is written by a different author, so while we get to meet some of the other residents of 425 Madison, we don’t really know anything about any of them other than Gwen’s good friend, Mallory. (Who is the subject of the next installment.)

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Leigh Lennon is a mother, veteran and a wife of a cancer survivor. Originally with a degree in education, she started writing as an outlet that has led to a deep passion. “And here I thought you were just going into the military, I had no idea you were thinking of racing professionally.” I make notes in his file.

“You remember that?” He catches my eyes as I look up guiltily.

“Yeah.” I’m not about to tell him everything. He might think I’m some weird stalker girl, holding onto memories from one night when I was a teenager. And still feeling the backseat sex days after reconnecting. It had been a while for me, and my body wasn’t exactly primed for that kind of activity.

“You obviously followed your dreams of becoming a doctor. Did you ever end up in sports medicine working with athletes, you know, before coming here to fix broken drivers? I think you mentioned wanting to do that because of your background as an athlete.”

“No, I didn’t, I ended up in physical therapy school instead of going to med school. But how did you remember that?” I’m completely taken aback that he would commit that to memory for so long.

He raises an eyebrow at me and I flush again, getting called out for also remembering that he joined the military.

“You would be surprised what I remember, Bird.”

My heart slams against my ribs, racing as he sucks me in with the continued use of the silly nickname he gave me. I bring my hand up to the neck of my shirt and finger the chain of my necklace absently.

“You still have the feather charm, don’t you?”

I nod, pulling it out to show him. “I never take it off.” My father gave me this necklace for my sixteenth birthday. He told me to not just chase my dreams, but to give them wings. I’ve followed his advice as closely as I could all these years.

“Good. Maybe it’s made you think of me at least once in the last ten years.” He gently feeds his arm into the sling and tries to lift the strap over his head with a grimace.

Wyatt’s right. I’ve thought of him over the years when my dreams seemed so far away, the only way I would be able to reach them is with wings, like the bird he compared me to when he saw my necklace in the colorful honky tonk lights on the night of our fateful meeting. I shake my head at the memories.

“You’re doing that all wrong. It’s easier this way.” I move closer to him so I can unhook the strap and drape it around his neck before securing it to the actual sling. “See, no lifting your arm to get your head through the strap. That’s better.”

“Yeah, it is.” His fingers brush my hip in an innocently intimate manner while his eyes bore into me.

Blog Tour: Sunny Shelly Reviews Tanner, by Jeannine Colette & Lauren Runow

We’re celebrating the release of Tanner: A Sexton Brothers Novel by Jeannine Colette and Lauren Runow! One-Click Tanner today and binge on the Sexton Brothers all weekend!

Title: Tanner: A Sexton Brothers Novel
Age Group: Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: February 7, 2019

Book Description
“A kiss was all I needed.”

“Looks like you got what you wished for.”

“Yes. About that…”I was supposed to find a finely dressed businessman, have a one-night stand and forget about my failed relationship. Instead, I meet Tanner Sexton—a gorgeous man in street clothes, messy hair and the sexiest smile I’ve ever seen.

When my ex shows up at the bar, Tanner notices my panic and kisses me just so the prick can see. Then he takes off, leaving me breathless.

So, I do what any rational person would. I chase after him onto the subway, and embark on a wild night in New York City with a complete stranger.

No matter how much I fight it, this mysterious artist painted his soul onto my skin, and I haven’t been able to forget him. Our romance is one for the ages, but age isn’t the only thing standing in our way.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Sweet, sexy Tanner! Lauren Runow and Jeannine Colette topped themselves with this Sexton brother!

Tanner and Harper’s story is full of sexy fun, but also has a lot of sweet moments. I especially liked how torn Tanner was throughout the book about wanting to be the no-name artist that the sweet schoolteacher knew him as versus the heir to a media empire that had massive responsibility hanging over his head.

While each of the Sexton brothers found their perfect mate, I really liked that there was an age difference between Tanner and Harper. He’s the youngest brother, just 22 and about to finish up college. She’s 30, has had a few heartbreaks and is settled in her career. But they both throw caution to the wind and their age gap works wonderfully.

This is a series of standalones, but there is a somewhat interconnected story dealing the Sexton Media empire. The books can be read in any order, since they seem to take place at the same time. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Blog Tour: Sunny Shelly Reviews The Games We Play, by Renea Porter

Presents : New Release

The Games We Play
by Renea Porter

Genre: New Adult Romance

He taught me how to keep my emotions in check and how the outside world is a cruel place. He said there was no such thing as love, because love hurts people, and it makes people weak.

He said I wasn’t weak.

My whole world changed when I met Ryan. He made me feel different, in a good way. As our friendship progressed so did my feelings. Feelings I wasn’t supposed to have. And I wasn’t sure they’d be reciprocated. After a stint in jail, it only made his heart harder.

But I was always the one there, to pick up the pieces. I just wasn’t sure how long I’d keep doing it. I was just a girl in love with a guy that I couldn’t have.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3.5 Stars

This was a pretty good best friends romance. Corinne has been in love with her best friend forever, but was afraid to tell Ryan so and lose their friendship. Meanwhile, Ryan has always been her protector, and I felt like he was too stuck in that mindset to really see what was going on in front of him.

I wish there had been more from Ryan’s POV because what was on his mind would have helped me understand him better. There was a disconnect between the characters for me, despite a great premise and a romance that had a lot of potential. I think that’s why this story didn’t click for me as an I-loved-it book.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Lessons From A One-Night Stand by Piper Rayne

If you find yourself having banged your new boss—the principal—in the back of your Jeep one drunken night, here’s a few takeaways based on my experience…

Lesson One: Always get her FULL name.

Lesson Two: Consider asking what she does for a living.

Lesson Three: Find out why she’s moved to town. Get details. Details are crucial.

Lesson Four: Don’t alter her bio in front of an auditorium of high school students unless you know she has a sense of humor for that sort of thing.

Lesson Five: If you ignore Lesson Four, apologize instead of flirt when you’re sent to the principal’s office.

Lesson Six: NEVER sleep with her again.

Lesson Seven: Pay attention to this one—it’s the most important of them all.

Don’t fall for your one-night stand.

Class dismissed.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

LOVE Austin and Holly! Piper Rayne has me totally hooked on this new series with Lessons From A One-Night Stand. The premise of this book is adorable: Austin has a one-nighter with a woman who blows his mind, only to find out that she is the new principal at the school where he’s a teacher and baseball coach.

The awesome chemistry between Holly and Austin was complemented by the family dynamic, and left me wanting more. Which is exactly what an author should be after with a series, amiright? There’s more than that beyond the surface, however: Both of them are planning to leave Lake Starlight in a few months, so the embark on a no-strings-attached affair. Naturally, lots of feelings get involved and things get messy, plus there’s the addition of Austin being the father figure in his family and all that his leaving will do to his family.

Everything about this book was perfect: pacing, plot, character development, secondary characters, dialogue, friends with benefits to realizing your soulmate is standing right in front of you! Bring on the rest of the Baileys!

EXCERPT

“We need you to introduce Principal Radcliffe.” She peers behind me then pushes up on her tiptoes to whisper in my ear, “Malcolm, I mean Vice Principal Ealey, called in this morning. I think he was still…”

Fay doesn’t have to finish the sentence. Malcolm Ealey went through a public divorce last year and has been spending a lot of his time at the Lucky Tavern, drowning in a helluva lot more than his sorrows. That’s why, even though he should have become our temporary principal, the school board decided to hire someone new.

“Why me?”

She hands me a piece of paper. “The kids look up to you, and everyone thinks that the kids will welcome Principal Radcliffe if you introduce her.”

Her. Another woman. Hopefully this one is well-caffeinated and not pregnant. We’ll all stand a better chance that way.

I accept the piece of paper, looking over what I need to say. “Fine.”

I’m not scared of public speaking. I’ve got two teenage girls at home. You don’t know a hostile environment until you’re trying to break up a fight between those two.

“You’re the best, Austin.” Fay squeezes my forearm then walks down the hall.

My footsteps slow as I read over the new principal’s bio. What the hell is a Yale graduate doing in Alaska at Lake Starlight High School? After skimming over her education, I fold up the paper. I can wing it from there. Besides the kids couldn’t care less about what’s printed on that sheet.

Heading into the auditorium, I search out the face of our new principal, but I know everyone here.

“Her meeting with the superintendent is running a tad late, so if you could stall, I’ll tap you on the shoulder when it’s safe to announce her,” Fay informs me.

“I’m not a zoo keeper.”

Fay laughs.

I will not miss this part of my job next year.

Before I realize it, I’m in front of the podium, clearing my throat and introducing myself, as if everyone here doesn’t already know who I am. Sedona rolls her eyes and looks away. I have no fucking clue why she’s so embarrassed of me. I mean, look at me. Six foot two, two-ten, short, neat haircut. I work out four times a week, hike, bike, ski. My muscles aren’t from just the gym…

Okay, before I keep sounding like a male-seeking-female want ad, let’s get on with how my day went into the shitter in a matter of twenty minutes.

I tell a few jokes, and the kids loosen up a bit. Maybe I should rethink the whole college baseball coach thing and go for stand-up comedy. I’m pretty good at this.

Fay taps my shoulder, and thank God, because I’m running out of material.

I pull the paper out of my back pocket and clear my throat one more time. “All right, everyone. We all know that Principal Miller has left us to enjoy her new baby, so we’re welcoming a new principal into our school. Our new principal for the remainder of the year is Dr. Radcliffe. She graduated from Yale with her doctorate in education. She comes here from the lower forty-eight, so make sure you give a big Alaskan welcome!”

About half the kids in the auditorium clap while the rest of them stare at the stage with an expression that only a bunch of unimpressed and uninterested teenagers can manage.

Time to grab their interest and get them to buy in. “Principal Radcliffe’s hobbies include streaking during football games, ferret racing, and taking surveys for money.”

The kids roar with laughter, finally looking as if they’re interested and want to be here. Fay steps up and nudges me.

“Sorry,” I mumble. “We’ll bring Dr. Radcliffe out to explain her hobbies in more depth.” I turn from the podium at the sound of heels clicking across the stage.

This is the part where my mouth drops open and my testicles jerk up, seeking protection.

See the auburn-haired woman walking right toward me? The one who looks as pissed off as Sedona did when I honked my horn in the parking lot this morning?

Yeah, that’s my new boss.

The new principal of Lake Starlight High School.

I don’t believe in kissing and telling, but I’ll tell you—this is the first and only principal I’ve ever given an orgasm to in the backseat of my Jeep.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Charming As Puck, by Pippa Grant

Title: Charming as Puck
Author: Pippa Grant
Genre: Sexy Romantic Comedy

 Release Date: February 1, 2019

Blurb

The man could charm the panties off of a nun…Nick Murphy. Hockey god. My best friend’s big brother. My friend-with-mindblowing-benefits.
The best thing to happen to my nether regions since my subscription to the toy
of the month club. The man I’ve been secretly in love with for years.

And total ass.

I am so done with him.

Except there’s one small problem.

Now that I’ve cut him off, his hockey game is in the toilet. He’s convinced I’m
his good luck charm, and he wants me back. But only for his game.

I’ll be strong. I will. I’ll resist.

Asses don’t change their stripes.

Or do they?

This plan would be so easy if the man wasn’t Charming as Puck…

Charming as Puck is a romping fun romance between a hockey player and
his sister’s best friend, complete with farm animals, over the top birthday
presents, and Berger Twin sightings. This romantic comedy stands alone with no
cheating or cliffhangers and ends with a pucking awesome happily ever
after.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Felicity and Ares from Beauty & The Beefcake have been my favorite couple, by far, amongst Pippa Grant’s Thrusters hockey romances. So Nick (Felicity’s brother/Ares’ teammate) and Kami (her best friend) had a lot to live up to.

Charming As Puck picks up a few months after B&B leaves off: Nick and Kami have been sleeping together casually since Felicity and Ares’ wedding, but when Nick forgets her birthday, Kami realizes that she wants more from Nick, more from a relationship than casual sex, and breaks things off. The book is all about Nick trying to win her back, so we don’t see where their relationship began. And I kind of liked that. I liked getting to know the Nick who realized that he loves Kami and needs to make things up to her.

This book is just as quirky as PG’s other books, but I didn’t find that Charming As Puck had the same spark that some of the others had. Many of characters I’ve come to love make appearances, and there are plenty of barnyard animals. (If you’ve read Beauty & Beefcake, you know what I mean!)

Overall, Charming As Puck is a funny read in a well-liked series, but Nick and Kami weren’t a couple I went crazy over the way I had with some of the others. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Synopsis:

Kitty was not only beautiful but also incredibly intelligent—except when it came to relationships. It seemed if a guy was a loser, corrupt, deadbeat or unavailable, she was completely and utterly attracted to him. She definitely had a “type,” and all of them had been one bad decision after another.

Dallas had trouble of his own. Finding women wasn’t a problem—he could charm the pants off almost anyone—but most of those “pantless” women ended up being a few bananas short of a fruit basket. Not always the best candidates for his sex-without-strings philosophy. He was one date away from ending up a 60 Minutes special.

While both of them were at the top of their game professionally—she a high-powered executive assistant, and he one of the best tattooists in the city—their personal lives had become a dumpster fire.

No one in their right mind would have suggested they join forces to help each other wade through the crazy. Surely that was a recipe for disaster? But without reason, logic or even sanity on their side, they decided to do it anyway.

It was a hot mess primed for a head-on collision.

When she isn’t filling pages with sassy and sexy characters with attitude, she’s living her own reality show in the ‘burbs of Melbourne with her American husband, two teenage children, and her fur child—Woodley.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Somewhere Between Us is a second-chance romance full of angsty goodness! The story is told from Cameron’s POV, and alternate back and forth between Then, when she and Jeremy were in high school, to Now, ten years later when he’s reluctantly returned to town as his stepfather is dying. I really liked the flashbacks to how their relationship came to be, from reluctant acquaintances to Cam tutoring him and a genuine friendship forming to the developing of romantic feelings between them.

I did think that the story dragged a bit to get to the reasons why Jeremy broke up with her, and why he was so dang angry with her when he returned to town. I struggled with that for a while because he was the one who left her, but it did become a clearer picture once that flashback happened.

This book hits all the right notes between Jeremy and Cameron as he tries to woo her back, and sweet little Asher totally gives his dad a few more points in my book!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt

“You really
want to know who I thought you’d be with when I came back?” Jeremy said,
sobering. He goes on without my answer. “I didn’t picture anyone, because I
knew all along it was supposed to be me.”
I feel my
pulse in my temples in the residual silence. Why? Why would he say something
like that, knowing how much I yearned for him after he left? For what could’ve
been?
“Not what
you wanted to hear?”
My breath
hisses against my teeth. “Not what I expected to hear.”
“The truth
hurts sometimes.”
No kidding.
It feels like tiny crowbars are wrenching open my heart, allowing him to slide
in through the cracks. “And when did you find that out? Before or after you
made your laps around campus?”
“I always
knew it.”
Ouch. Was
that supposed to hurt more or less than any other answer?
Before I
get the chance to ponder that further, his hand is on my neck, his fingers curled
into my hair. His mouth is on mine in less than the span of a heartbeat, the
time it takes a hummingbird to beat its wings. There is no chance for reason to
invade my senses, because he’s already there, his lips filling me with
nostalgia, his tongue caressing the ache of loneliness that’s only expanded
since the moment he left.
Time stops.
Or maybe it moves backward. I can remember everything he made
seventeen-year-old me feel when he singled me out in a classroom and wouldn’t
accept that I didn’t want to let anyone in. That I’d embraced the isolation my
classmates made me feel.
He filled
me with strength. He made me forget. But most of all, he made me feel.
And then he
left.
I push my
chair back from the table, breaking the connection between us. The look in his
eyes is half dreamy, half dazed. Not at all confused as to why I cut that
reminiscent moment short.
“You can’t
just kiss me like that.”
“Like
what?”
“Like you
never left.”
He rubs his
fingertips over his lips. “You can’t tell me you don’t feel like nothing’s
changed.”
“But
everything’s changed.” I stand and push my hair back with both hands, clutching
my head. “You hurt me, Jeremy. I don’t think you’re even aware of how much. It
wasn’t just puppy love.”
“That was a
different time. We were younger. We both had a lot of growing up to do.”
“You were
everything to me!” I’m borderline yelling until I remember Asher upstairs in
his room. I run a hand down my face and shake my head. “You’re too important to
be casual. I can’t be indifferent with you.” And I can’t act like every time he
touches me, the scar tissue around my heart doesn’t quake.
He stands
and matches my gaze, his expression just as hard and intense as it was before.
Can’t he see he has the power to break me? Can’t he see I can’t afford to let
that happen anymore?
