Sunny Shelly’s Review: Maybe Later, by Claudia Burgoa

Title: Maybe Later
Author: Claudia Burgoa
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 7, 2019

Blurb
My personal assistant—a.k.a. half my brain—has abandoned me to have a
baby. Alright, alright, I’m not a total jerk, but the temporary virtual
assistant Carla left in her place is driving me crazy.
I’ve repeatedly refused to fill out Amy Walker’s way-too-friendly
questionnaire. But somehow, she ninjas me into giving up details about my
private life—all while suffering her oh-so-subtle jabs at my likes, dislikes,
even my system for running my business.
I don’t care what she heard, I am not a problem child.
I just know what’s tried and true.
At first, her feel-good P.S. quotes sounded more like B.S. Yet our
emails and texts gradually take on a new dimension, and I find myself thinking
of her as something I haven’t cultivated in a long time. A friend.
Maybe she’s right. It’s time I get a life. Starting with stepping out
from behind the screen and putting my feelings on the line. I’ll never know
unless I try.
Note: Contains a
grumpy, workaholic tech CEO with a guarded heart, and a virtual assistant whose
skills border on diabolical. Also, two cats named Ramen and Sushi.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Maybe Later was such a refreshing twist on the typical office romance! I always like it when an author gives the reader text messages or emails exchanged between the character. It’s the way of the world these days, and I find that it makes a couple more relatable. Most of Maybe Later is written that way, as grouchy CEO Jackson develops a kind of a friendship with his virtual assistant, Amy. They both find the other sharing things that they probably wouldn’t otherwise with a face-to-face interaction.

Then there is sweet Jack and Emmeline, who have the cutest meet-cute at a bookstore and begin to date. While they talk about a lot of things, they are both guarded in their relationship. They never even share last names.

So when Jack figures out that Emmeline is actually Amy, how it affects their relationship was my favorite part of the story. He knows who she is, but she has no idea. They both have some pretty hefty baggage that they are carrying around, and they struggle with their feelings for the real-life person they are with and the one on the other side of the screen.

There were a few unanswered questions/unresolved plot points that I had, which is why I didn’t rate this as 5 stars. But on the flip side of that, I was so very happy that Jack didn’t take advantage of the fact that he knew who Amy/Emmeline was before she knew the truth. That disturbs me when it comes to the mistaken identity trope.

Overall, this was a wonderful office romance, with a lovely HEA.

filling out our initial application. It’ll be a pleasure to help you find just

aggressive, micromanaging, and somehow a social piranha.
Did I misread it? Is there a possibility that this was a
typo?
If you could please correct or expand on your description,
I’ll appreciate it. Mrs. Darlington explained our mission correctly. We always

JOEL

“Why do you keep coming to the café asking me out every week? You have to know that I’m never going to say yes.”

“That’s where you’re wrong,” I argue. “You want to say yes. I don’t know why you keep saying no, but I know I’m not wrong about the attraction between us being mutual.”

“And you’re what? Hoping to wear me down by buying coffee?”

“Winners want the ball.”

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me.”

“I don’t understand how that fits this scenario. Am I the ball?”

Reaching out, I let my fingertips graze her arm – elbow to wrist. Goosebumps meet my touch, but she doesn’t pull back. “It means that I’m willing to risk you turning me down every week because there’s always a chance you’ll say yes. I might fail ninety-nine times before I succeed, but I’m going to keep trying because I want you. You’re not the ball, Kitty, you’re the goal.”

She scrunches up her nose. “The goal? You can ‘score,’” —she air quotes the word— “with any girl you want. So, I’m not sure I buy it. If I’m just a goal…”

“Don’t twist my words. You’re not just anything.”

Our eyes lock and the air shifts. I don’t dare move even though I’m dying to taste her, to show her how good we can be together.

She lets out a long breath and shakes her head. “Can I have a drink of that?”

I hand over the bottle and watch as she tips it back and proceeds to grimace as the liquor meets her tongue. She hands it back with a cough. “Thanks.”

“Lo que tu quieras hermosa.”

Her eyes widen. “You speak Spanish?”

Damn. I haven’t pulled out the Spanish on her? In all my attempts to get her to go out with me, I’d forgotten Blair’s advice that tossing out my ability to speak Spanish was the ultimate panty dropper. Admittedly it doesn’t usually come to that. My handsome mug and the body that comes with the workouts and practices of being a college athlete do practically all the work for me.

“My parents wanted us to be able to communicate with our extended family in Mexico.”

She shifts so she’s sitting fully on the bed. “Did your parents grow up here or in Mexico?”

“Both. My father’s family moved here when he was a baby. My mother came over with her sister after high school.”

Whatever hesitation and block she’d been throwing up is down as she leans forward and asks the next question. “How’d they meet?”

I shake my head and click my tongue against the roof of my mouth twice. “Oh no, you’ve used up your seven questions. It’s my turn.”

She holds her hand out for the bottle.

I pass it over, watching mesmerized as she takes another small drink and hands it back. “I’m ready. Shoot.”

“Admit you’re attracted to me.”

“That’s not a question.”

“Fine. Are you attracted to me?”

Her face pinks. If I’d been doubting it, which I haven’t, I’d be certain now. Katrina is attracted to me, but I need to hear her say it. I need her to admit it to herself.

New Release: Diary Of A Bad Boy, by Meghan Quinn

Dear Diary,

I might have gotten myself into a wee bit of trouble—and I’m not talking about the “court mandated community service,” or “therapy sessions from bashing a bloke in the head” kind of trouble.

I wish it were that simple.

Nope. I’m talking about the “falling in love with one of my client’s daughters,” kind of trouble . . .
The kind of problem I can’t talk my way out of when the truth gets out.

How I ended up with her phone is a long story—and when she called to get it back, I took things a bit too far. One innocent exchange wound up leading to so much more.

Fun, new, and totally immune to my charm, Sutton is different. And I had no idea she was the daughter of Foster Green.

Blame it on the dark colored stout running through my veins, pushing me toward one bad decision after another. Pushing me toward her even though I know right from wrong; even though she’s my client’s daughter.

Dating her might be the best or worst decision I’ve ever made. Only time, whiskey, and one more roll around the mattress with her will tell.

Blog Tour: Sunny Shelly Reviews Let Me Love You, by MK Moore

Title Let Me Love You
Author: MK Moore
Genre: Best Friend’s Sibling Romance
Series: 425 Madison Book #2

Mallory
My professional life has taken off. Now if I could get a personal one, that would be great. He is so amazing. Good looking, smart, and everything I ever wanted. Why won’t he let me love him?

Malachi
Coming home from a life of service is hard. It’s even harder when you’re injured.
Why did she have to be so beautiful? She is everything I never knew I wanted. Letting her love me was the easy part.

Don’t let the title fool you, this book is full of all the MK Moore yumminess that you can handle. As always, you can expect a safe and steamy happily ever after.

After all, 425 Madison Ave is the perfect place to fall in love!

Each story is completely standalone, but you’ll want to read them all. Trust me.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3 Stars

Let Me Love You is the second book in the 425 Madison Series — interconnected standalones each written by different authors. I absolutely adored the first one, Must Love Coffee, and had such high hopes for Let Me Love You, since I was kind of intrigued by Mallory and Malachai’s sudden secret relationship in the previous book.

Unfortunately, this one fell a little flat for me. I’m okay with instalove stories, but the rest of their relationship was then too rushed. There are so many other couples that are introduced in this book — presumably the couples for the remainder of this series — but I felt like they were taking away from Mallory and Malachai.

The characters themselves were likable enough. He has a bit of a past and some baggage, she doesn’t really make a big deal out of it, and he’s a fierce protector. I liked that they were both virgins, rather than just one of them wanting to lose their V-card. That’s rare in contemporary fiction, I find. But overall, this story had a lot of potential, but all the extra characters took away from my enjoying the H/h and their romance.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Quick Dirty Luck is the second book in the Love Between The Pages series. It is a standalone following The Novel Approach. I admit, I didn’t like Alexis much in the previous book, but getting to know her a whole lot better in Quick Dirty Luck changed my mind about her.

Alexis may be one of the hottest erotica novelists in the game, but she’s had zero luck in her own love life, and has sworn off relationships. Still, sparks fly when she meets playboy Kent, who has his own baggage when it comes to relationships. His heart hardened after a brutal breakup, Kent has become quite the playboy. He’s cocky and arrogant and rubs Alexis the wrong way from the start, but there is something that keeps drawing them together. And Kent can’t keep away. But when the unexpected happens, will these two stubborn people take a chance on love together?

Both of these characters grew on me, and I really liked the connection that developed between them. He really keeps at it, trying to break down the walls she has around herself. And I loved reading the updates on their best friends, Stacy and Gage, from the first book!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Heather Guimond is a Los Angeles native, a fact she’s abnormally proud of. When she’s not trying to write something that will make people laugh or rip their hearts out (or both!) she’s either reading or doing her best to crack the whip on her three home-schooled teenagers. She loves all things witty and wise-cracking, as well most varieties of smart-assery. Other favorites include French roast coffee in copious amounts and the dirtiest Dirty Martinis she can find. More than anything, she hopes she writes books that stick with the reader long after the pages have been read.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

The Beach In Winter is a phenomenal story of grief, mourning and healing. Neighbors Parrish, Scarlett and her teenage nephew Sam are all grieving incredible losses when their paths cross in a small Maine beach town one fall. Over the course of that winter, all of their lives are forever changed as they strike up tentative friendships that become everlasting bonds.

Parrish is drowning in his grief five years after his son’s brutal death. A total recluse, he spends his days drinking and smoking when he’s not writing his detective series. He doesn’t even know that his next-door neighbors have died until a forced interaction with their son’s aunt, who is now Sam’s guardian. Little by little, Scarlett and Sam being Parrish out of the black hole he’s been existing in. And along they way, he helps her navigate parenthood and helps Sam grieve his parents.

There are so many sweet moments between Sam and Parrish. He expertly walks the fine line of being a friend and mentor with the young boy. And Sam brings out the paternal feelings in Parrish that he long ago buried. The romance between Parrish and Scarlett is equally sweet. It develops organically from a mutual attraction to something so much deeper.

On that beach one winter, three lost souls come together, healing one another, showing one another a way out of the darkened, and letting each other know that it’s okay to sometimes just talk to the waves when you don’t want to talk to people. The waves always listen.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Arrange Me, by Katy Regnery

New Release.jpg

My name is Courtney Jane Salinger…
and I’m sick of games.

Sick of the Friday night bar-scene-cum-meat-market.
Sick of the boy-girl, man-woman, mars-venus, flirtation-without-expectation, game-playing nonsense.
Sick of awful dates and one-night stands, booty calls and guys who don’t call back, mixed messages or NO messages and—and—and…I’m sick of all of it.

I’m done.
I just can’t do it anymore.
It’s too hard, and worse: little by little, it’s making me hard.
It’s breaking my heart.

What DO I want?
That’s easy.

I want a house in suburbia with a white picket fence.
I want babies to buckle into a minivan.
But most of all, I want to be married.
I want a husband.

So I’ve made an important decision: I’m making my escape from the dating world and the single life.
I’ve filled out my application on ArrangeMe.com and I’m putting my fate into the hands of experts.

Is it a little scary?
Sure.
I mean, I have no idea who I’ll end up with. After all, I’m planning to marry a complete stranger.

But between you and me?
I can’t wait.
Being arranged can’t possibly be worse than being single.
Can it?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3.5 Stars

Arrange Me is the first part of a duet where the heroine, 29 yr old Courtney, seeks her HEA with an arranged marriage.

Without giving away the plot… I just didn’t love Courtney. I thought she rushed into a decision when there could have been an alternative. This book has a hook that I’ve never seen in contemporary fiction, but I just didn’t fall for the heroine the way I thought I would.

51800984_483055969168970_2000502733190201344_n.jpg

This book is only the first part of Courtney’s journey, so I’m interested to see where KR takes the rest of this story. I’m keeping an open mind, because I do see a lot of potential with a possible mate.

RYDER

My entire life is a lie, propelled by one wrong decision that altered my fate.

If fans knew the truth, they’d run away screaming. But all they see is Ryder Stone, moody guitarist and lead singer of Torment, and a potential notch on their bedpost.

Only two people know who I really am. My manager has a vested interest in keeping my secret, and the girl I was forced to leave behind doesn’t even know the true extent of my shame.

Losing Zeta is both my biggest regret and my proudest moment. But she was the glue keeping me together, and I’m struggling to survive without her. Especially when the demons from my past continue to haunt me and the threat of disclosure is ever present.

When she reappears in my life, this time, I’m too weak to push her away.

Her love has the power to save me.

Mine has the power to destroy her.

ZETA

I’ve worked hard to forget my past. To rise above my messed-up childhood and make something of myself; however, there’s no forgetting him.

Ryder’s gorgeous face and drool-worthy body are plastered over tabloids and TV screens, reminding me I’m still in love with the boy who captured my heart in juvie.

When he failed me, I thought I’d never again experience such heart-crushing pain. But watching him fall out of clubs with a succession of different girls renews the agony, resurrecting countless unanswered questions.

Now my boss has sent me to interview him. It’s a massive scoop for the magazine, and turning it down would kill my career. So, I delude myself into thinking I can handle this.

Perhaps this is the closure I need to finally move on.

Except I’m terrified nothing has changed and one look into those soulful eyes will suck me in again.

Ryder almost destroyed me last time. This time, he could ruin me forever.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Only Ever You is the third book by Siobhan Davis that I’ve now read, and once again, she puts out a fantastic, gripping story. This is much darker than Incognito and When Forever Changes, but is still a story that kept me up into the wee hours of the morning, anxiously waiting to see what comes next.

From the moment that Ryder and Zeta meet in juvie, there is a magnet drawing them to one another. While they are incarcerated, their romance is as sweet as can be: they are both virgins, sneaking small kisses and hand holding whenever they can, waiting for the day that they are both free and can truly be together. That day is so, so close when Ryder’s past catches up with him and he is forced to leave Zeta behind to keep her safe.

Eight years later, Zeta is a rock journalist, and Ryder is the lead singer of the aptly-named band Torment when she’s assigned to write the group’s biography. Being forced to spend time in such close quarters with the guy who shredded her heart is the last thing that she wants, but it’s clear that they both still are very much in love with one another. Thankfully, SD doesn’t waste a lot of time getting to them hashing out their past and reuniting, because I really wanted to see how they adjust to their new normal together. But Ryder is still keeping one last secret from Zeta, and it threatens to destroy everything in a way that is far worse than before.

Ryder is such a tormented soul. His demons are dark, his self-loathing runs deep. Zeta has her own set of issues, but they are nothing like Ryder’s. This book is so full of angst and emotional upheaval, and there is a lot of drug use and sex addiction as Ryder self-medicates and self-destructs. But at the end of the story is a beautiful ending full of redemption, hope, forgiveness and learning to love yourself. For both Ryder and Zeta, it’s “only ever been you.”

This book had me crying at so many parts, and wanting to throw my kindle during others. It’s not at all a light-hearted story, but it is gripping nonetheless, and I am in a massive book hangover.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt:

He kisses the top of my head. “I can admit to myself now that I was falling into a dark hole again. Recently, I’d been partying too hard, and slipping back into my old ways, but I told myself I had it under control. These last few weeks have helped enormously. Being back in the Hamptons house has always been my salvation. I keep to myself, bury myself in the music, and avoid all other temptations. I never invite people back to my house. It’s my only sanctuary. My only privacy. And having you back in my life has given me purpose. Given me a reason to clean up my act.” He tilts my face up to his. “Because I want to be the kind of man you deserve.”

“You already are.” I stretch up and kiss his lips.

“I’m broken, babe, and a part of me always will be.” He looks so unbearably sad, and I want to erase all trace of sorrow from his face.

“I’m broken too, Ryder. Maybe that’s why it works between us.”

Read an Excerpt from FALLEN STAR:

Tuesday they were shooting on location in Jackson Square all day. The call time was two hours before dawn, so they could wring every second of sunlight out of the day, and Grace could not stop yawning on the transport van to the location.

“Wakey, wakey,” Scott said, leaning over the back of his seat to shake a plastic tumbler filled with something thick and green and disgusting-looking in front of her face.

“Ugh,” Grace grumbled. “Get that away from me.” She couldn’t help but smile a little though, even through her sleep-deprived crankiness.

An hour later, as the first streaks of light were glimmering in the sky above the river, Scott showed up at the pop-up tent where video village had been set up, and presented Grace with a white paper bag and a tall styrofoam cup from Café du Monde.

“For me?” she asked, perking up considerably. “Did you seriously walk over there and buy me coffee?” He didn’t seem to have gotten anything for anyone else. Just her. Her brain filed this information away to obsess over and analyze later, when he wasn’t standing two feet away grinning at her.

“Café au lait,” Scott said smugly. “And beignets.”

Grace narrowed her eyes at him in suspicion. “Did you make one of the PAs do it?”

“As a matter of fact, I did it all by myself. And I had to take a picture with the employees, so I hope you appreciate it.”

“I do!” she said, beaming at him. “You’re officially my favorite person today.”

He blinked at her, his smirk fading into something else entirely. Whatever that expression on his face was, it sent Grace’s stomach tumbling into a free fall. Rather than examine it more closely, she focused her attention on the bag in her hand. Inside was a mountain of powdered sugar, and buried beneath it were three pillowy squares of fried dough. “Don’t inhale while you’re eating those,” Scott warned her.

“Not my first rodeo,” Grace told him, excavating a beignet. “Want one?”

“Noooo.” He held up his hands in a warding gesture. “I’m doing a water cut for that fight scene on Thursday.”

Right. He’d be shirtless, which meant the Abs of Glory would be on full display. Grace found herself looking forward to Thursday with a little more enthusiasm.

“Sucks for you,” she said, giving him a taunting grin as she bit into a beignet.

His eyes homed in on her mouth with laser beam focus. “That’s fine. I’ll just enjoy them vicariously by watching you eat.”

“Does this get you off?” she asked archly and took another bite.

Scott licked his lips. “Not gonna lie, it kind of does.”

Grace couldn’t help laughing at his retriever-staring-down-a-dog-treat expression, which led her to make the fatal mistake of inhaling with the beignet in front of her mouth. Coughing sugar out of her lungs, she clapped a hand over her mouth as a cloud of fine white powder billowed out in front of her.

Scott sidestepped the powdered sugar typhoon and patted her on the back, chuckling. “Told you not to inhale.”

BLURB:

Sloane has been on her share of dates. She just can’t seem to find the right guy to pop her virgin cherry. Sloane’s mother, a well-known sex guru, believes she’s suffering from a hostile vagina.

Poor Sloane is beginning to believe her mother’s professional diagnosis is true. Except for one small detail…

She’s been pining for her best friend’s brother, Oli, for the past decade.

Sloane’s heart is set on the unattainable, sexy-as-sin hockey player. She would give up on her Oli fantasy if it weren’t for those constant heated glares and that one passionate kiss that set her world on fire confirming her hostile vagina is right. Oli is the man for the job.

Problem is, Oli seems to have no intention of settling down and has clearly placed Sloane in the friend zone.

When crisis strikes, Oli and Sloane end up trapped in a car, driving to Canada with a sweet puppy and a whole lot of chemistry. But when Oli realizes she’s a virgin, he wants to run to the farthest hills to get away from her.

Sometimes happily-ever-after isn’t that easy…

Butt Ending is a laugh-out-loud friends-to-lovers story. Get ready for foodgasms, dirty talk, and one heck of a sexy alpha-male hockey player.

Oli

She tastes of sugar and sin. I’m treading in dangerous waters, and yet I couldn’t stop myself if I wanted to. I’m too far away from shore as my tongue runs down her chest.

I lift her under her arms and lie her on the bed. “I don’t remember the last time I fucked gently, but tonight I’ll try my hardest for you,” I say, because a part of me hopes she’ll cower and realize she’s making a mistake. It shouldn’t be me.

A nervous laugh escapes her lips. “Is that another warning? I told you I feel safe,” she says firmly, her voice too filled with lust to be taken very seriously.

I can’t blame her because that same need pulses through me, even though a nagging feeling sits on my chest, like I’m taking something that isn’t mine. I don’t want to hurt her or me. I sure as hell don’t want to cause trouble between her and Flynn, but my resolve has diminished, and like a moth to a flame, I’m consumed by her.

As my tongue runs over her pert nipple, it stands to attention. I’ve never wanted anyone like I want her now with her dark hair messy and splayed on the bed, her green eyes filled with heat so alluring. She’s quite the temptress, and she isn’t even trying.

My tongue plays with the bud of her nipple as she runs her fingers through my hair. She smells like fresh flowers on a spring day, refreshing, untainted, in need of love. My lips press against her other nipple, and she murmurs something unintelligible and moans, arching her back off the bed.

“That feels so good,” she rasps. Her heated voice does things to my insides. I want to make her feel passion that she’s never felt before. I want her to come completely undone because of me, for me. I’ve noticed over the years she has a wall erected around her not with my sister but with other people, especially those of the opposite sex, and although I don’t know what it’s about, it makes me feel special knowing she trusts me enough, that she cares about me enough, to want to give this precious gift to me.

“Good, baby, I want to make this feel good for you.” My mouth hovers over her delectable nipple as my tongue draws circles around it, making her buck beneath me.

“Ah!” she cries out, pressing her wet pussy into me.

“Fuck, I can feel how wet you are through my jeans,” I hiss.

“We better do something about those jeans then.” She grins sexily, her eyes heavy-lidded and warm. She gets to work on the button and zipper, then runs her hands over my ass. “Damn, this is one fine ass.” She giggles.

“You like my butt, huh?” I reach down to squeeze hers. “Yours is sexier than hell. Fuck, what I wouldn’t do to come inside it,” I growl, forgetting myself. She’s a virgin; her virgin ears don’t need to hear my fantasies about taking her from behind. At least not yet.

Her throat bobs. I’ve made her nervous.

“Don’t freeze up on me, baby. I’m not going there tonight. Like I said, I want to make this good for you. Tonight is all about you.”

About R.C. Stephens:

As far back as R.C. Stephens can remember she was a sucker for a good romance. Of course there had to be a prince charming even if he ultimately was a dark knight and there had to be a happy ending.

She watched the movie Dirty Dancing way too many times growing up and Jean Claude Van Damme movies too. Go figure!

After years of saying she would write a book one day, she finally put pen to paper and carved out the plot line for what would eventually become the best selling Twisted Series. Now R.C. is just finishing up her tenth book and can’t seem to stop the stories running through her mind.
