They call me the sugar whisperer.

Anything your tongue desires, I can bake it. Scones? Child’s play. Cupcakes?
I’ll frost them so good you won’t know what hit you. Donuts? Please.

You’re talking to a master baker.

But there’s one egg I’ve never been able to crack.

My best friend.

Correction: My former best friend.

She’s the apple in my pie. The whip in my cream. The lemon in my meringue. The
wish in my bone.

She’s the one who got away.

After ten years in the military, she’s back. She’s bruised and battered by
life, but she’s back.

Except she’s not my second chance. She’s gone to the dark side.

Running a rival bakery in a town not big enough for two.

So now I have to decide—which do I want more?

My bakery?

Or the woman I never should’ve let go in the first place?Master Baker is a deliciously fun friends-to-enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy
featuring a smooth-talking baker, the one who got away, and a goat with more
matchmaking tendencies than a nosy old grandpa. It stands alone with no
cheating or cliffhangers.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Back to Shipwreck! Master Baker is as sweet as one of Grady’s delectable donuts. This was a cute friends-to-enemies-to-lovers romance between Grady (who we’ve met before in Flirting With The Frenemy) and Annika, the girl he’s been in love with since he was 14 and couldn’t get over. It’s 10 years after she enlisted in the military, and Annika is back to run her family’s bakery, 10 miles down the road in Sarcasm. (These town names crack me up.) There is a bitter rivalry between the two towns and bakeries, which naturally complicates matters for Grady wanting to be part of Annika’s life again.

But Annika isn’t the same girl who was once his best friend. And the only way to save her family’s business is to ruin Grady’s. And isn’t about to roll over and let that happen. The residents of both towns get involved in the bakery war, but when Grady learns the real reason why Annika so desperately needs her place to succeed, he secretly starts helping her win the battle against his own place. Okay, so it’s a little convoluted, but there are some sugary-sweet moments between them, and the fire is rekindled.

As with most Pippa Grant books, expect some hilarity courtesy of animals — in Master Baker, it’s a dirty-talking parrot and a male goat named Sue. And we get an appearance by the Berger Twins! Another hilarious romcom from Pippa Grant! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Under A Different Sky, by Lindsey Iler

Title: Under a Different Sky
Series: Hand Over My Heart Duet Book One
Author: Lindsey Iler
Genre: New Adult Romance
Release Date: June 10, 2019

My life is a mess.

I’m walking around with a black eye. My position on the hockey team is questionable at best, and if that’s not bad enough, I think I’m falling for my dead girlfriend’s best friend.

Every day, it’s a fight to feel alive, and yet, I drink to numb the pain. Everyone is standing back, watching me fall apart.

Everyone except Hannah. No matter how many times I push, she’s there to pull me back. She refuses to let me spiral any deeper. And after one kiss—she’s impossible to ignore.

Unfortunately, it seems she and I aren’t the only thing being kept a secret.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3 Stars

Under A Different Sky, things may have been different for Nick and Hannah. He’s a mess of a man following his girlfriend’s death, set on self-destruct. Hannah was Mia’s best friend, and is trying to help Nick through his grief. They both get one another in a way that others don’t, and they soon find that they’ve caught feelings. But are they betraying Mia by wanting to be together?

I’m a little tornn on how I feel about this book. I loved the heightened emotions of it all, but I thought that Nick was a bit of a jerk. Sure, he’s grieving. But that doesn’t give him a hall pass. The relationship with Hannah develops so quickly, I would have liked more of a slow burn between them as they transition from Mia’s best friend and boyfriend to something more. I just didn’t connect with the couple immediately and feel the chemistry between them. Which is why I’m only rating this 3 stars. Well, and it’s a cliffhanger. I hate not knowing that ahead of time, when I signed up to read an early copy.

This story was defintely gripping. But do I want to read the next book? I’m not sure. Reserving judgement on that for now. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Title: Reel Love

Author: Julie A Richman

Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance

Release Date: June 26th, 2019

Synopsis:

Is this Reel Love or Real Love?

Hollywood

The moment I laid eyes on Finn Parker’s headshot, I knew that if this guy could act, I wanted him for the hero role in the film being made from my book, Fleeing an August Moon.

The tall, blond, and ruggedly handsome actor looked exactly like the picture I’d seen in my head the entire time I was writing the book.

The studio, however, had different thoughts on a leading man.

Box Office crusher, Maverick Dailey, made it clear that he wanted the role. The producers, studio, and everyone involved were thrilled to score such a celebrity. Well, everyone except me.

And it’s my vote that counts since, according to my contract I get final say on casting. Maverick is amazing, yet I’m just not sure…

It certainly didn’t help that Finn Parker and I seemed destined to cross paths. We ran into each other all over Hollywood. And the more time we spent together, the more the sparks between us flew. We had an intense chemistry, something I’d only ever read about in books like mine.

Which made me wonder, was I really falling for Finn or just living out a fantasy with a red-blooded, live version of my hot hero character?

It’s easy to confuse fiction for reality in Hollywood. Everything is not as it seems in this town.

Not to mention, Finn’s life would forever change if he landed the role. Which made me question how good of an actor he really was? Was he interested in me, or the role I had the power to give him?

Is this Real Love or just Reel Love?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

When you are America’s hottest romance author, sleeping with the hunky guy who is up for the male lead in the movie based on your book, what is real and what is reel?

Reel Love is a fantastic story that you must put on the top of your Summer 2019 reading list. Frankie is an ordinary Texas girl who happened to write a hot best-seller. She’s completely naive to the way of Hollywood dealings, so when she’s told she has the final say in the casting of her movie, she believes it. As the story goes back and forth between Frankie’s interactions with Finn and Maverick, the two actors vying for the lead, the reader gets some clever insight to the casting process and the Hollywood machine. And the more time Frankie spends with Finn, the more she starts to wonder if their relationship is real or reel…. Are they just using each other? After all, he is exactly what she envisioned for her hero, and she is the author with the final say-so in who gets the job.

There is some great growth on the parts of both characters in this story. But moreso with Finn/Parker. He’s felt so lost the past few years and like he was living a superficial life, and the time he spent with Frankie really helps him find “Parker” again.

And thank you, Julie, for giving that brief appearance by Schooner! I’m interested to see if JR has a book planned for Maverick in the future. As much as I didn’t want to like him, the guy was kind of a saint! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

The moment I met Nick Adler, he refused to tell me his name. I already knew it, of course, but I wasn’t going to tell him that.

He was gorgeous, and not in a typical kind of way. Nick’s allure came from his abil-ity to master grace and charm while simultaneously being rough around the edg-es.

I fought my attraction, hard. There was no room in my life for a man like him. My mother was battling Alzheimer’s, and my father and I could hardly keep up with her care. Nick would be a distraction that I couldn’t afford. I’d made up my mind. I was going to ignore him.

And then my dad invited him over for dinner. I watched him that night, unable to ignore the feeling clawing through my chest. I knew Nick would be the end of me.

But I was wrong.

He was just the beginning.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

An Artificial Sun is one of those stories that offers a glimmer of hope even in the character’s darkest hours. When Whitley comes home after years away to care for her mother, who is suffering from Alzheimers, she never expects to find such a sweet, sensitive, caring soul in her parents’ next-door neighbor, Nick.

This book is not an easy one to read, simply because of the subject matter and how crippling Alzheimers is on the entire family, not just the patient. But Nick proves to Whitley over and over again that she deserves happiness and shows her how to find joy even when she feels like she’ll never be happy again.

EXCERPT

Instinctively, he dropped the towel, and his hands closed around her upper arms. “I’ve got you.”

No, he didn’t. She’d been managing on her own for years, and wasn’t about to start depending on a guy who’d left her all alone to deal with the consequences of their brief…thing. She tried to take a step back, but her double-crossing hands didn’t leave his shoulders. Instead, they slid down and molded to his chest.

“Sorry, I…” she stuttered.

“I’m not.” His hands closed over hers, and his thumbs caressed back and forth over the tops of her fingers.

An electric current shot up her arms, down her spine, and tingled all the way to her curling toes.

“I should be sorry.” Dylan’s soft breaths brushed over her cheeks. “Joe’s has a lot at stake, and your plumbing has been allowed to deteriorate due to lack of use.”

He had no idea.

His gaze smoothed over her burning cheeks. “That’s a problem I’d like to remedy for you.” A dimple appeared as one corner of his mouth lifted into a hint of a smile. “I’d benefit from it, too.” The dimple deepened.

Time slowed.

A bone-deep ache of desire stirred in her chest. Before she could stop herself, she went up on her tiptoes and pressed her lips to his.

Mistakes were made, okay?

The moment I laid eyes on Kyle Kingston I knew he was a mistake. A satisfying, toe curling, hair pulling, best night of my life mistake, but a mistake all the same. I didn’t yet know his name, or who he was, but I knew he was a bad idea.

I take comfort in that, because it means my instincts are still good. Too late, but it’s something.

Because, FYI, I’m pregnant

… and did I mention my baby daddy is both heir to a retail empire and impossible to get ahold of?

I do what any girl would. I break into his Grandfather’s retirement gala by telling the prissy gatekeeper Kyle’s my fiancé. It was a halfway decent plan at the time, trust me.

But it blows up in my face, disastrously so. You see, Kyle Kingston is all about representing the family values his family’s retail empire was founded on. At least in public. In private- well I’ll tell you about that later.

He proposes – a marriage of convenience.

Convenient for everyone but me, because while I’m falling in love with my convenient husband, he’s keeping a billion-dollar secret. From me.

Excerpt
“Be ready by six,” Kyle says as he drops me off.

“Ready for what?” I ask, hand on the door handle ready to hop out of his SUV.

“Dinner.”

“Whoa.” I drop my hand from the door and turn to him. “Like you want me to have dinner on the table by six? That’s really sexist, Kyle. Just because you put an imaginary ring on it and put a bun in my oven doesn’t mean I’m going to quit my job and spend my days cleaning and putting dinner on the table every night at six like a 1950s housewife, just so you know. And I’m not ironing your shirts. I might make cookies every once in a while, though. If I stay. Which is still an if.”

“Are you done?”

“Yes.”

“Mrs Lascola comes daily Monday through Friday. She does the cleaning, shopping and laundry. My dry-cleaning is delivered to the concierge desk, from where she retrieves it and places it in my closet. She brings the mail from the lobby and leaves it on the desk in my study. She also prepares meals and leaves them in the fridge to be heated.”

Oh.

“So no,” Kyle continues, “I’m not expecting you to be my 1950s housewife, because Mrs Lascola is my 1950s housewife, minus your surly attitude problem. You, Daisy, are my twenty-first-century bride-to-be. What I expect from you is that you’re doing everything you need to do to take care of the baby you’re carrying. Besides that, I expect you to do whatever it is that you find personally fulfilling. I don’t give a fuck if it’s dusting, or knitting, or photography, or real estate, or running a goddamned empire. Are we clear?”

“Fine, yes.” I huff. “Good Lord, you’re dramatic.”

He rolls his eyes at me. “Great. Be ready at six, because I’m taking you out to dinner,” he says, stressing the word out. He could have done that to start with. “On a date,” he adds.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Courting Kate, by Tori Kron

Courting Kate
Tori Kron
(Panthers Players, #1)
Published by: Acorn Publishing
Publication date: June 23rd 2019
Genres: Adult, Romance, Sports

Slapped with court ordered community service for brawling—again, Miller Cassidy, the Indianapolis Panther’s star player, is forced into laboring under stodgy non-profit supervisor, Kate Gallagher. Her saving grace—she happens to be best friends with Stella, the woman he’s been chasing for years.

Despite the masses falling for his charm, Kate doesn’t care for Miller’s notorious reputation or his flippant behavior. But wanting to impress her strict boss, she agrees to a trade that could give them both a shot at success.

Propelled into an unlikely alliance, Miller finds himself taking a defensive stance when he sees beyond Kate’s hard exterior. And Kate is equally thrown off guard when she discovers there’s more to Miller than games.

But is love worth sacrificing friendship? And can Miller let go of the feelings for Stella he’s held onto for years?

In love and basketball, it’s five fouls and you’re out, and every play counts.

Goodreads / Amazon

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Another sports star needs a reputation rehab and ends up finding the woman of his dreams when he least expects it. Except for basketball star Miller, he’s initially using Kate to get in good with his long-time crush, her best friend Stella.

Overall, this was a sweet, clean romance. I did find that the switch was flipped suddenly between Miller wanting Stella and having feelings for Kate. And I was expecting a little more between the two women over Miller, so the resolution was a bit anti-climactic.

This is a classic slow burn, enemies to lovers romance between a good girl and the (supposed) bad boy — because Miller isn’t really all that bad.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Anthony
Being responsible hasn’t gotten me anywhere in life. My girlfriend left me for another guy. My career is over. I feel like I’ve lost everything.
Then I meet Sway Swenson.
She’s sexy, fun, spontaneous, has zero inhibitions, and thinks relationships are a waste of time, just like me. She’s perfect for getting me back into the game without looking for anything serious. The only problem? She’s hiding something, and the longer I’m around her, the more I want to uncover her secrets.
If only she’d let me.

Sway
I don’t do relationships. A crippling experience in high school was enough to make me avoid them like the plague.
Then I meet Anthony Wright.
Everything is fine until he decides to take off his stupid shirt and gives me a glimpse of his washboard abs. When he suggests hot and sweaty sex with no strings attached, I’m stupid enough to jump in with both feet. Yup. I fall for his ludicrous idea, but I refuse to fall for the man himself.
Even if he does make me curious about what life could be like if I wasn’t broken.

ANTHONY TEASER 1

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Oh, I am so glad that we got Anthony’s story! It didn’t connect in my mind when I read the blurb, but Anthony is Tony… aka Indie’s long-term boyfriend from the going-nowhere-relationship-that’s-more-like-roommates from Rhett. It was so nice to see how Anthony was impacted by the events that led to the end of his and Indie’s relationship!

When we see Anthony now, he’s lower than low. He’s depressed for having lost Indie, and then he lost his job. And then he drove drunk and crashed into a vet’s building. For community service, Anthony was ordered to volunteer at the cat shelter he crashed into… and little did he know, but that day, he crashed into the home of the woman of his dreams.

Swayze (Sway) is everything Anthony is not. Where he’s rigid, she’s lax. He plans everything, she plans nothing. They are completely opposite, but they bring out a different side to one another. And in different ways, they are both very broken people. Anthony wears his emotions on his sleeve — anyone who asks, he’ll tell them that he’s in a funk due to the end of a long-term relationship. He feels unlovable. And Sway doesn’t let any guy get too close because she feels she’s damaged goods physically. She doesn’t make plans for her future because everything she dreamed about was ripped away from her.

Yet somehow, Sway takes in stray Anthony, rehabs him like one of her injured kittens and he manages to heal her heart and soul along the way.

This is a sweet, uplifting read with the only drama between the characters being Sway’s own issues and hang-ups. I’ve loved every book in this series so far, and adored the tease we got to her sister Skye’s story, coming up next! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

“Is that what we are? Friends?”
The surprise in his voice makes me pause, and my gaze bounces around his face in hopes of piecing together his thoughts. Unfortunately for me, he’s like a steel vault.
“What label would you use?”
Scratching his jaw, he weighs his options while I find myself waiting on pins and needles. “Friends, I guess.”
“Why do you sound so surprised?”
“I don’t really have friends,” he admits. “Damn, that sounds pathetic. I had coworkers. I had a girlfriend. And I had my parents. But friends? I didn’t have time for those before….” His voice trails off, leaving me hanging.
“Before what?” I inquire while continuing to assess him curiously.
“Before I lost everything.” He pauses then adds with a dry laugh, “Except my parents. They’re still around and as nosy as ever.”
Licking my lips, I let his words soak in before my two-cents slips past my lips. “No offense, but it sounds like you didn’t have much to lose in the first place. But I’m glad I can help you make a fresh start.” A light laugh escapes me when a thought hits me like a brick. “Man, Anthony. Are you sure you’re not a cat?”
He snorts. “Excuse me?”
“My entire job is giving them a fresh start,” I explain. “Plus, they’re kind of moody, have lost their homes, purr one minute then wanna bite your head off the next. Don’t tell me you don’t see the similarities.” I pop my hip out and place my hand on it before smirking at him. “At the very least, it’s your spirit animal. Come on, I’ve seen you with Jasper.”
“Jasper, as in the cat who is severely overweight and won’t let people touch him?”
I nod, trying to hide my grin. “Yup. Twins, I tell ya. Twins.”

About Kelsie
Kelsie is a sucker for a love story with all the feels. When she’s not chasing words for her next book, you will probably find her reading or, more likely, playing with her “monsters”.

After surviving a troubled childhood, Denise can’t believe that she’s blissfully married to her partner and soulmate. And she certainly doesn’t anticipate that when he finally walks back through her door that he’ll have no memory of her, himself, or their time together…

They tell him nothing else; not even that the beautiful woman who makes his heart beat faster is not just his partner, but also his wife.

The secret she must keep wrecks Denise, who wants only to return to Mason’s arms. But despite the desire that still burns hot between them, she can’t tell him who she is—or that she’s carrying his child.

You don’t want to miss this sexy, suspenseful amnesia romance!

Excerpt:

The sidewalk was clear on both sides, and only a few empty cars dotted the parking area as heat shimmers rose off the asphalt. The world was a fucking inferno, but all things considered, that seemed apropos. Hadn’t he been tossed right out of the frying pan and into the fire?

A sign that looked like it hadn’t been updated since the fifties sat perched atop vertical steel poles and identified the rundown little motel as the Stay-A-While Motor Inn. Hopefully that was only a suggestion, because he wanted to get out of there sooner rather than later.

He walked down the sidewalk toward the sign, passing the pasted colored doors along the way. Green, room 106. Blue, room 105. Yellow, room 2014.

This path was familiar, and there was some comfort in that.

At the same time, having the full extent of his remembered life marked by the Easter egg colors of a half dozen doors weren’t exactly enough to have him jumping for joy.

The same woman was in the office. About sixty with Lucille Ball hair-he remembered I Love Lucy!

She smiled at him from behind a counter. “Well, you’re looking much better today. Got yourself some sleep, I guess?”

“I did,” he said, then cleared his throat as he glanced around the room. “You got a bus schedule?”

She shook her head. “Sorry, no. Where you heading?”

“Just meandering,” he said, as if he was Jack Reacher, and it was perfectly normal to wander aimlessly around the country.

“Well, let me see if I can find a schedule online for you.” She inched toward a computer that looked to be older than he was, but stopped midway down the counter to answer the phone as she rummaged through a drawer.

He cocked his head, his hand sliding into his pocket as his senses went on high alert.

The phone.

He relaxed.

Of course, He should have realized immediately. The numbers. They were a phone number. 323-555-0717.

“Oh, good, I found it,” she said after ending the call. She pulled a crumpled brochure from a drawer. “So the Greyhound station’s not too far away. That what you’re looking for? Or did you want local routes?”

“Greyhound,” he said, thinking of the 323 area code. “I need to make a phone call. And then I think I’ll head to Los Angeles.”

“Friends there?”

“I guess I’ll find out.”

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Broken With You is not your typical second chance romance! What do you do when your husband comes out of a secret mission that caused him to have amnesia and you can’t tell him anything about your relationship for fear that he will never regain his memories and put national security at risk? It’s a slippery slope for Denise!

I felt her angst over not being able to tell Mason the truth, and all of the half-lies she had to tell him. And poor Jack/Mason! What a half-state he’s living in! It’s amazing, though, the things your body just remembers without even thinking about it. There were some really nice moments between them even when Jack had no idea he was Mason.

This book is part of a series that is a spin-off of JK’s Stark Security series; I have not read any of the other Stark books, but did not feel like I was missing pieces to the puzzle. While characters do cross over, this story is absolutely Denise and Mason’s tale.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
