Sunny Shelly’s Review: Asher, by Carian Cole

Title: Asher
Series: Ashes & Embers #6
Author: Carian Cole
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: June 3, 2020
Blurb
I should have died.
I should have been
forgotten.
But I didn’t, and I
wasn’t.
Living the life most women only dream about, I was madly in
love with my soulmate—Asher Valentine—amazing husband, loving father, and
rock’s favorite kick-ass front man. A man who loved me every day, in every way,
since we first met as teens. We were blessed with a beautiful
daughter who was the light of our life. My all-female rock band was tearing up
the charts.
Then tragedy struck, and I lost it all.
Now all I have is a stack of journals, an antique key, and a
big black void where my memories should be.
Used to be.
And I have him—this man with wild hair, tattoos from head to
toe, a soft voice, and an even softer touch that gives me butterflies. He’s
clearly hopelessly in love with his wife.
I’m told that’s me.
But that wife is gone, and she took everything they once
had, leaving me in her place.
A broken replacement. A new version that doesn’t quite fit.
I’m slowly falling in love with him, but will he ever truly
love me? Or will he forever be in love
with her, the phantom woman who
haunts us both?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I first signed up to read and review Asher a year or so ago, and the release date changed several times. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely! I devoured this book in a day, and it’s taken me a few days to collect my thoughts about Asher and Ember. It was fantastic. And then some.

The prologue absolutely gutted me. Asher literally watches the love of his life plummet to her near-death. The fact that he was not able to prevent her fall has plagued him for the past 8 years while Ember has been in a coma. Every single day, Asher visits his wife, hoping and praying that she will return to him.

Well, she does. But since she has amnesia and doesn’t remember who Asher is or anything about their life together, it’s not pretty. Ember’s recovery is hard on both of them. She feels like a stranger in what everyone is telling her is her life, and Asher is so desperately clinging on to the hope that he his wife will fully return to him.

This story is raw and hard to read at times. Asher has the patience of a saint, and he never gives up on Ember. While I expected her journey to be difficult, I was surprised by how equally difficult Asher’s journey is. All of the memories that she can’t remember are the ones that he can’t forget. The ones that he has been hanging on to, and the only thing that has gotten him through this dark time. But is he in love with a ghost? Can he accept the “new” Ember? And will she fall in love with the tatted, long-haired rock god again?

Having not read any of the other books in this series, I had no frame of reference for Asher and Ember’s situation. There are a few things that I thought were kind of glossed over or could have used more of an explanation (like his family background and parents being famous, for example). But that ultimately didn’t affect how I feel about this book. And Asher and Ember’s story definitely made me want to read Tor, which is about their daughter, Kenzi, and Ash’s best friend Toren.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: We Were Once, by S.L. Scott

Release Date: May 28
We were never supposed to fall in love.

New York Times bestselling author, S.L. Scott, crafts her signature heartfelt style into a brand new emotional, second chance, standalone romance.
I have three goals: graduate from an Ivy League university, get into medical school, and follow in my father’s well-established footsteps. Everything was going exactly as planned until the local bad boy was delivered to my doorstep. Literally.
From the moment we meet, my old life becomes unrecognizable, but I have no regrets. I’m utterly captivated by him. His smirk. His heart. His sharp wit. He pushes me to live, to be wild, to pursue the dream I’ve always hidden inside.
To the rest of the world, we make no sense.
Me, the girl from the gilded New England coast.
Joshua, from the small city of New Haven.
To us, we’re destiny.
Together, we had it all. Desperately. Madly. In love.
Until we didn’t.
One tragic night changed everything.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Chase-The-Moon Stars
We Were Once is full of emotion. Chloe and Joshua have so much riding against them, get they are so, so connected that nothing else matters.

When these two meet, it is opposite-attract instalove. She’s a well-off student, he’s a townie even though he is also studying at Yale. There is nothing about Joshua and Chloe that makes sense, yet everything about them does. She grounds him and he helps her drift — much like their half-anchor tattoos represent. They fall hard and fast, but they are ripped apart after a tragedy.

He is at his absolute lowest After The Accident, and even though Chloe is trying her best to help him, her dad is continuing to manipulate them. When Joshua pushes her away, Chloe has no choice but to go even though she feels in every fiber of her being that it is wrong.

For years afterwards, she feels a black hole in her soul. But a chance meeting in Manhattan turns everything around. Has too much time passed, or are these two still the anchors of one another’s souls? Can they chase the moon and find a second chance?

This book was wonderful. Full of heart, emotional, Hope and salvation. I kind of wish that the After The Accident part of the story would have dealt a little more with Joshua’s time in prison. It changed him, but I would have liked to have known more about his struggles. But I still enjoyed this story so very much, and loved how both Chloe and Joshua grew during to come back even stronger when they get their second chance.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

With a degree in Journalism, she continued her love of the written word by reading American authors like Salinger and Fitzgerald. She was intrigued by their flawed characters living in picture perfect worlds, but could still debate that the worlds those characters lived in were actually the flawed ones. Excerpt

“Thanks so much for taking her home, Hazel.” Ollie nudged me to get my attention and I turned to look at him, not having much choice in the matter now. I couldn’t be rude. It was a mistake. The green of his eyes was deeper today, less brown. I knew it was the jersey. It was always that way. A bead of sweat slid down the side of his face and he ran a hand through his hair like he always did. I knew it was a habit of his, just like I knew so many other things about him.

“You owe me.” I tried lightening the mood like I had with Scarlett. I nudged his shoulder but only came into contact with a pad.

Dragging his bottom lip into his mouth, he raked his teeth over the fullness and his eyes heated. He leaned his face close to mine. “You name it and it’s yours, brat.”

My face flamed and my mouth watered. Lord, he was a terrible flirt and by terrible I meant amazing. I swallowed the saliva pooling in my mouth and stepped back.

“Cut it out, Olls. Quit giving her a hard time. She came all this way so your ass would have a way home tonight.” Scarlett attempted to save me.

He eyed me. “Oh, I haven’t even started giving her a hard time yet,” he said before walking backward down the stadium steps, hot eyes still on me. I was thanking whatever gods were listening that he was walking backward. Please, God. Spare me that ass. I couldn’t handle it after his damn lip trick.

“You’re shameless, Oliver Knox,” Scarlett called down to him.

She wasn’t wrong. Oliver flirted with all the women. I never could tell if he had a preference for a certain kind of girl. If it walked and had tits and a vagina, he flirted.

“Bye, ladies,” Oliver said loudly and jangled Scarlett’s keys over his head before doing the most awful thing in the world to me—he spun around and gave me his ass. And God, was it a marvelous ass. Immediately my eyes ate it up. Was there anything better than a hot ass in some football pants? It was round and firm and high and I bet I could have bounced fifty quarters off of it. But I didn’t have any change. Damn. That was just my luck.

I was being mesmerized by the twin all white globes when they stopped just barely and my eyes diverted up to see Oliver looking over his shoulder and smiling. Damn him. He gave me a slow wink before continuing down the steps at a trot.

The tease. The bastard. He knew how good-looking he was. It didn’t matter a bit that he was my best friend’s brother or that he was a year and a half younger than me. Oliver Winston Knox was fine on a regular day, but in a football uniform he was the stuff dreams were made of. My dreams to be exact.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

The First Score is such a sweet story! It is a stand-alone, but is a spin-off of The Red Zone. I remember when I read TRZ that I loved Hazel and Oliver, and hoped that they would get a story. It was so worth the wait!

Ollie has always had a crush on Hazel, his sister’s best friend. He and Hazel develop their own special kind of friendship, but Ollie wants more. So one day, he decides to catfish the love of his life in a video game.

Thankfully, that doesn’t backfire on him. But it does open up Hazel to admit that she has feelings for him as well. Unfortunately, she is so messed up as a result of her abusive childhood, she feels like she can’t be in a relationship. He was so devoted to her, and has the patience of a saint when Hazel, who is going through some personal drama with her mom, tells him that she needs time to figure things out.

Team Hollie all the way! Once these two finally get on the same page, their relationship is magic. He is the ultimate supportive boyfriend, and knows exactly what Hazel needs even when she doesn’t know herself.

If you have read TRZ, TFS takes place kind of at the same time. It was great to get a catch-up with Luk and Lettie, too. I hope Mason’s story comes soon!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Sweet Spot is an absolutely sweet romance set in Rebecca Jenshak’s Valley U world. Keira is a college golf player, who isn’t getting the recognition she deserves because her coach has it out for her. She’s damn good, and eats, breathes and sleeps golf. But still, she’s not getting a spot to play in the tournaments. So when an opportunity arises to get golf pro-turned-coach Lincoln Reeves to personally train her, Keira dives even deeper into her training.

And along the way, falls head over heels with her coach. Their relationship starts out as a casual fling, but both of them begin to want more as he trains her for the PGA circuit. But having already been married and divorced, Lincoln is afraid to bring his selfish behavior (being married to his job) to another relationship. But is their shared love of golf enough to get both Keira and Lincoln to the sweet spot?

This story is a low-angsty, lighthearted read. Keira and Lincoln have a playful connection with lotsof witty banter and fun flirting. There is an age gap between them, but this story is not a forbidden romance. So there isn’t a lot of drama, and these two likable characters just keep chugging along until Keira realizes that she needs more than Lincoln is willing to give. And when Lincoln decides to fight for their relationship, he really brings his A Game at an intense moment for Keira’s golf career.

Although Sweet Spot takes place at Valley University where the Smart Jocks series was set, this is a standalone. There are some ties to the Smart Jocks — Zeke makes an appearance, and Nathan’s brother, Heath, is one of Lincoln’s employees.

Synopsis
How long would you wait for the love of your life?

The Asher Bailey who comes home to his quirky small town isn’t the same man who put a ring on Grace’s finger. He’s bigger, harder, haunted. Forced to give up Grace and everything else that was good in his life for a prison sentence he barely survived.

Now that he’s home, he finds himself aggressively welcomed by his brothers and gleefully gossiped about by his neighbors. He’d counted on both.

But he never expected to see Grace still wearing his ring.

Grace’s fairy tale didn’t end. It was interrupted. She’s spent the last seven years living her life while waiting for one man. Now that he’s back, she’s got her work cut out for her. He’s scarred and angry, and stubbornly convinced they can’t be together. She’s more than happy to educate him otherwise.

Every beer, every prank, every kiss brings him closer to where he’s always belonged. In her life. In her arms. In her heart.

Asher fears the darkness inside him can’t be contained. But Grace won’t give up on him without a fight.

Author’s note: A brooding, wounded hero and the woman who won’t give up on him. A pack of unruly, prank-loving brothers. A wild neighborhood rumor mill. Spectacular BFF banter. This is a love story about soulmates that delivers the heat and all the feels. The Bailey Brothers series is meant to be read in order and Fighting for Us concludes Grace and Asher’s happily ever after.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I went right from reading Protecting You (Bailey Brothers #1) into Fighting For Us and I am so glad I was able to binge read because I could not put this book down! Technically, Fighting For Us is a standalone, but it’s so much better to read with the context of Grace and Asher’s origin story in Protecting You. Plus, you get to meet the wild Bailey brothers in Book #1, so there’s that. Trust me, you want to know these guys!

After seven years in prison, Asher is released from jail — and doesn’t know what to do with himself or his life. He’s had zero contact with his family — not even Grace. It broke his soul, but it was the only way he was able to survive being locked up. And Grace never gave up on their love, even when people thought she was insane for staying faithful to Asher.

Seven years ago, they had a fight… or was it a break-up?

I loved how even though these two came back together, but he was still holding back. Asher was so afraid that his demons (as a result of being in prison) would destroy Grace even worse than when he turned his back on her all those years ago. But her love for him is just so big, her faith in them as a couple is just so strong, it brings Asher through his darkest hour. And dirty-talker Asher is so freaking hot!

Another great aspect of this book was how Claire Kingsley shows how Asher’s prison sentence affected his whole family. It wasn’t just Asher who had to deal with being locked up. His brothers and Grace and even Gram suffered while he was gone. We saw some of what the brothers went through, but there will be more to come as the rest of the Bailey boys get their due. I legit screamed at the end of the epilogue with that tease for the next book to come!

I know how much of her own heart and soul Claire Kingsley put into Asher and Grace’s story, and it shows! This is an epic, tragic, heartfelt, healing love story, and a fantastic start to a new series by one of my favorite authors!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

She’s walking away and I’m begging. I don’t need forever to win her back.
Just give me the weekend.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

I haven’t read a Weston Parker book in a while, so I forgot how well he does the male romance writer thing. Give Me The Weekend is a sweet, slow-burn friends-to-lovers/fake relationship romance that doesn’t have a lot of drama and left me feeling all warm inside.

Elsie and Taydom have a ton of chemistry. They are both kind of broken people — she’s just lost her mom and best friend, and is just kind of floundering in life, while he is a real estate mogul but lives a very lonely existence, closed off and a workaholic. A chance meeting at an open house that Elsie visits changes both of their lives forever. Neither one of them is looking for love or any kind of commitment, but they just can’t stay away from one another. Before Taydom even knows what is happening, he is going above and beyond for Elsie, doing things to make sure she is secure and safe (and not homeless!) like he’s never done for anyone else.

I loved how, even though they were pretending to be in a relationship and didn’t have any labels on what was going on between them, the fact that they are indeed committed to one another kind of sneaks up on both of them.

Give Me The Weekend is a sizzling story, complete with a HEA that neither Taydom or Elsie ever expected to happen in their lives.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Synopsis
One night brings them together. Another night tears them apart.

Grace Miles misses her easy friendship with Asher, but growing up means growing apart. And really, how could he fall for her when they spent their childhood getting muddy in the creek and splitting sticks of gum?

But this summer, something feels different. If Grace didn’t know better, she’d think Asher was flirting with her. Those dark eyes, hard body, and wicked smile make her insides swirl and her heart dare to hope for things she’s convinced herself she’ll never have.

Falling for your best friend shouldn’t be complicated, but for Asher Bailey, loving Grace is anything but simple. The road to romance isn’t smooth thanks to his pack of wild brothers who are protective of the girl next door, a take-no-sass grandmother, a small town where gossip is a spectator sport, and a feud that spans generations.

But Asher realizes his feelings are too big to ignore. Loving her isn’t the risk. Losing her would be.

And one night, one kiss, changes everything.

Finally admitting their feelings is the beginning of their happily ever after. Until their fairy tale love story is tragically interrupted, and neither of them will ever be the same.

Author’s note: Lifelong soulmates, ridiculous pranks, brother shenanigans, and a feuding town. Protecting You is the Bailey Brothers series origin story. Be there when it begins and fall in love with this wild band of unruly brothers. The series is meant to be read in order, and Grace and Asher’s story concludes in Fighting for Us.

ASHER - Playlist

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Protecting You is a kick-ass start to the Bailey Brothers series by one of my favorite authors. It is the origin story of Grace Miles and Asher Bailey — and HOLY SMOKES, is it all kinds of small-town goodness.

The light-bulb moment when Asher realizes that he’s in love with Grace was one of my favorites; it’s pure simplicity made it so beautiful. These two experience so many firsts together, and they so easily slip into a wonderful romance after being friends for so long.

I have been a Claire Kingsley reader for a long time, so I was well-acquainted with Grace Miles thanks to the Miles Family series. I already knew the basics of Grace’s relationship with Asher. But reading how they were best friends as kids, fell in love as young adults and then were ripped apart in a tragic moment where he was protecting her was nothing I was prepared for. Everything about these two was just pure and sweet. They have such a deep, soul-crushing love. So when tragedy strikes and Asher turns his back on Grace — to protect himself as much as her — it was just heartbreaking!

I read this book in a day. I could not put it down. I stayed up way too late at night reading it to get to that heartbreaking cliffhanger ending, and then jumped right into Book #2 Fighting For Us (which is the conclusion to Asher and Grace’s story) the next morning because I NEEDED MORE!!

While Protecting You is the origin story for Asher and Grace, we also get to know the rest of the Bailey brothers — and they are a handful. Their Gram is a saint! I can’t wait to see what CK brings next in this series.

Synopsis for Spooning leads to Forking:

Leaving her name—and her job as a top food critic—behind in New York, Shea Summers seeks respite in Sapling. Her borrowed mountain getaway seems perfect for writing her opus. It’s also perfect for riding out a messy divorce and hiding the roomful of cash she kind-of-sort-of stole from her ex.

Too bad Sapling is a remote, three-restaurant town with food that leaves much to be desired. Sexy grocer, Dev Kingston, may be Shea’s saving grace. The way he looks at her with his aspen-green eyes shows her everything her marriage was missing, and he can special-order every delicacy she craves.

But Shea’s not the only one who isn’t what she seems. Dev moonlights as a sheriff’s deputy, a fact she finds out too late; a string of suspicious crimes finds newcomers under scrutiny; and her ex is going to extremes to find out where she is.

Taking the money and living under an assumed name might be on the right side of wrong, but dating Dev is a dangerous game. She’s still running and he’s still the law.

Excerpt:

Dev Kingston has some nerve, Shea said to herself rather unreasonably. She’d been mentally cursing the man all morning. He was utterly responsible for her lack of concentration. Maybe some of the blame ought to be put on Delilah, whose abrupt disappearance the night before had perpetrated events that left Shea and Dev alone in his car.

Even before last night, Shea had struggled to remain impervious to his charm. Seeing him with Evie had done nothing to diminish his appeal. There were few things more attractive than a man who doted on his momma. Then, to be in his car, surrounded by a cocoon of his citrusy, spicy aroma had made Shea ache to do spicy things.

Don’t forget the arm squeeze, sex-starved Shea reminded reasonable Shea, as if any version of Shea could forget. It was the least-perfunctory cheek kiss she’d ever received. His big hand had cuffed her upper arm firmly. His green eyes had narrowed slightly, telegraphing something complex before warm lips delivered a too-brief kiss to her cheek.

A wave of his delectable scent had filled her senses as soon as he’d pulled back and she might have leant forward just a bit—her nose’s attempt to follow. She might’ve taken it farther, trailing said nose up the column of his beautiful neck, if his voice hadn’t broken the spell, speaking a deep, “Good night.”

 Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3 Stars

Based on the blurb of this book, I was expecting more of a romance between a woman who escaped an abusive marriage and the sweet, small-town hero who helped her heal and find love again. Unfortunately, much of this story fell flat for me. The heat between Dev and Shea was just kind of lukewarm, and it took sooooo long for anything to happen between them, that I was quickly losing interest. There are so many secrets that both of them are keeping, it was almost hard to keep track.

I struggled to connect with these characters, and the abundance of side characters felt like they overshadowed Dev and Shea. Their romance didn’t really feel like much of a romance, and the book just kind of… ended. Maybe I would have liked it more had I read the first book in this Hot In The Kitchen Series. Kilby Blades is a new-to-me author, so I went into this story with zero expectations. In the end, I just couldn’t connect with these lukewarm characters, and found myself wondering what they even saw in each other at times. As a result, I never shipped Dev and Shea, and didn’t really find myself rooting much for them to get their ish together.

Unfortunately, this one was a bust for me. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Fight For Me, by Corinne Michaels

New York Times Bestselling author, Corinne Michaels, brings a new breathtaking and emotional love story to life in the second STANDALONE in the Arrowood Brothers series.

Fight for Me is LIVE!

I fell in love with Sydney Hastings when I was ten years old.

At sixteen, we whispered promises of forever.

When I was twenty-two I broke them all. I left her and promised never to return.

After my father’s death, I’m forced to go home to Sugarloaf for six months. She’ll be everywhere, no longer just in my memories and regrets.

When we’re together, it’s as though time never stopped. She’s still the one I want, but I don’t deserve her. Instead of apologizing, I take that beautiful, broken woman in my arms. But after that, it’s her turn to leave me.

Now I have to fight. For her. For us. For the life we both want …

Excerpt:

“Do you want to dance?”

She nods.

I hear my brother make a noise and pretend I didn’t. She said yes, and I’m going to cling to that.

Here might be the last time I ever get to hold her in my arms, and I’m going to take it.

“I love this song.”

I love you.

“Why is that?” I ask.

Her arms move to my chest, and I wonder if she can feel the pounding of my heart. My nerves are bowstrings, being pulled taut before the arrow is ready to fly. Everything inside of me is strained, but I keep it together.

Sydney and I move, the world falling away as it always does when I am with her. Gone is the hurt of my past, the uncertainty of my present, and the regret of the future ahead. Right now, I have her.

She’s here, in my arms, where she’s meant to be.

I don’t care if the sky lights on fire because she’s all I see.

“Listen to her.” Sydney’s voice is quiet and pensive. “Listen to her talk about him giving up and her asking him to stay.”

And I do. I hear the words, and I swear that she’s singing to us.

“Don’t tell me it’s too late,” Emily croons.

“I won’t give up that easy.

Don’t call me darlin’ and tell me that you’re leavin’.

Don’t walk away.

Stop pushing me when you know you want to hold on.

It could be so easy for us, baby.

I’ve been here, but you don’t see me.

Don’t let go if you’re not ready for me to walk away.” The acoustic guitar takes over as her voice drifts off.

“Syd,” I say her name as both a plea to let go and hold on.

Her hands grip my shirt tighter. “Don’t. Don’t let go. Don’t push me away.”

I see the tears in her eyes. I don’t want to push her away. I want to hold her close, kiss her senseless, and love her until she knows it in every fiber of her being that she’s everything I want.

I see her. I feel her. I know her in my bones, but I won’t be able to be who she needs.

No matter how much I wish it weren’t the case, I can’t give her the life she wants with a husband and babies. All I can offer her is a friendship that has an expiration date because once my six-months is up and she has moved, I know I won’t allow myself to see her again.

The song ends, and the two of us stop moving, just watching the other.

The spell that was surrounding us seems to break and awareness fills her gaze. Her fingers loosen and drop from where they had been clutching my shirt and she takes a step back.

The loss of her is felt everywhere. My heart doesn’t seem to beat as strongly, the cold hits my chest, making it hard to breathe, and the emptiness from her loss leaves me weak.

For those minutes I held her, the world made sense. And now … I need to leave.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

It’s hard to move on from a broken heart when you never believed that it should have been broken in the first place. Declan and Sydney were EVERYTHING!

Declan and Syd were childhood sweethearts, but she was also a sister to the rest of the Arrowwood boys. She never understood why Declan had dumped her out of the blue that day eight years ago, and her heart hasn’t been the same since. Their split not only impacted her relationship with Declan, but with the rest of the brothers as well. Declan had good intentions for dumping Sydney and never looking back — to protect his brothers and prevent her from being tied down to him should their father’s dark secret come to light.

Even though Dec still loves Sydney, he refuses to do anything about it. But neither can he stay away from her. There is so much back and forth between these two characters, and it is emotional whiplash. He toys with her feelings because he can’t keep away. Time and time again, Sydney asks Dec to either fight for her or let her go. But when Declan is faced with a do-or-die situation, it is finally enough for him to answer Sydney’s call?

The chemistry between these two is amazing. I got so all the fluttery feels in my belly reading this epic second-chance romance. This is the kind of story that had me crying into my pillow at 1 am because I could not put it down. I didn’t care how tired I was; I needed to find out how this story ended!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Jock Blocked, by Pippa Grant

Title: Jock Blocked

Series: Copper Valley Fireballs #1

Author: Pippa Grant
Genre: Romantic Comedy

 Release Date: May 19, 2020

Blurb

She can’t let him score…
Call it superstition, but when a guy bats as hot as Brooks
Elliott, you don’t mess with what’s working. And what’s working is him keeping
his pants zipped and doing all of his scoring on the field.
So when I hear he’s planning to ditch his V-card now that
he’s been traded to baseball’s lovable losers—aka my home team and my reason
for living every March through October—I do what any rational, dedicated,
obsessed fan would do.
I make a plan to stop him.
But the thing about stopping him is that it requires
spending time with him.
Lots. And lots. And lots of time.
And the more time I spend with him, the more I like him. Not
as the guy who’s going to help save my favorite team and finally bring home a
championship ring, but as the guy who’s helping me in my quest to bring back
the team’s old mascot. Who also loves making pancake and bacon sandwiches. And
who would do almost anything for his love of the game.
But after all this time of jock-blocking him…do I even have
a chance?
And if I do, are we both destined to a life
of celibacy in the name of winning?
Jock Blocked is a home run of a romantic comedy
featuring the world’s most superstitious sports fan, baseball’s oldest virgin
hero, a rogue meatball, an adorable puppy with a cussing problem, and the best
lovable losers. It stands alone and comes with a happily ever after more
satisfying than a game-winning grand slam.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

If you are a Pippa Grant fan, then you know just how funny her books are and the chaos that ensues. So take all of the Girl Band books and combine them with the Bro Code books and you get double the hilarity in Jock Blocked (from the Copper Valley Baseball series).

Brooks is the little brother of Parker (Stud In The Stacks) and Rhett (The Hero & The Hacktivist), and Mackenzie is best friends with Sarah (America’s Geekheart). There are lots of appearances from many other characters in the Pippaverse as well, which is a nice wink to longtime readers.

But back to Brooks and Mackenzie: How could you not love a couple who fall in love because she is trying to PREVENT him from losing his V-card? Their meet-cute involves an over-the-top baseball mascot costume, and the book just gets better from there. I LOVED that while the rest of her friends called her Mac, Brooks’ nickname for her is Kenzie. It’s sweet. It’s them. It sets him apart from everyone else in her life.

Brooks and Kenzie balance each other out so well. She’s a little crazy (in a good way), and he grounds her, while she encourages him to loosen up a bit. After being traded from New York to Copper Valley, Brooks needs a little light and sunshine in his life to lift the dark cloud he feels is hanging over his head, and Mackenzie fits the bill!
