SYNOPSIS

One kiss … and her lips forever lingered on mine as if tattooed there.

Melody Quinn, all through high school I loved her from afar. Of course, in a cruel twist of fate, she waited until right before I left for boot camp to confess she felt the same. In that tender moment, we shared a kiss that branded her name onto my heart. Despite intense training, deployments, and life-altering tragedies, never once did she leave my thoughts.

Now, years later, fate has led me home. I can’t help but wonder … is a second chance possible? Reconnecting won’t be easy. My life has changed in ways she may never accept. But the spark that has always been between us explodes into an electrifying jolt every time she looks my way. The timing is horrible, but I have to risk it. She needs to know no matter how stormy these Bourbon Nights get, I’ll never walk away from her again.

 Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

I love an all-male POV story, and I was hoping that Bourbon Nights wasn’t just going to be a rehash of Bourbon Love Notes. Thankfully, it was not. Of course, there are many of the same scenes between Melody and Brett, but this time told from his POV. But Shari J. Ryan did a great job of adding extra content about Brett’s life that really made this slow-burn romance so much more!

From the moment Brett thinks he recognizes Melody on the plane, to how he unconventionally became a single dad and his struggles in raising Parker alone, this book was fantastic from start to finish. Even though I *knew* Brett and Melody’s story already, it didn’t feel like I was reading the same book over again.

I can’t wait to see what SR does with Brody’s POV! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Forsaken, by Gabrielle G.

🔥🔥 HOT NEW RELEASE 🔥🔥

Forsaken by Gabrielle G. is LIVE!! #OneClick today!

BLURB

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been in love with Chris.

I was never old enough or brave enough to act on it.

He never saw me like anything more than his best friend’s little sister.

So, when he falls in love with my best friend, I smile and try to move on.

Only I never thought I would lose them both.

***

One tragic night.

One day leaving me wondering what my future holds.

One event that has me seeing Salomé under a different light.

She’s the only one who can understand what I’m going through.

She’s also the only one who can soothe my pain.

I need her to survive. But I certainly shouldn’t take advantage of it.

A brother’s best friend novel like no other.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Wow. Just wow. Forsaken is not your typical brother’s best friend romance. Chris and Salome’s path to HEA is so twisted and hard and emotional and gritty and at times, ugly. I was really curious about the two of them after reading Heartbroken (Gritt Family #1) and Forsaken was nothing like what I expected between Chris and Sal.

Chris has always been an unofficial part of the Gritt family, as Aaron’s best friend. What started out as a crush on him when she was 6 years old turned into something deeper for Salome, and every guy she dated was compared to Chris. Nothing had ever happened between them since he’s 10 years older than her, but she has been in love with him for as long as she can remember.

Chris is bisexual, as we know from the last book. He dated Sal’s brother Luke when they were teenagers. (I haven’t read Luke and Dex’s book from the previous series, so I’m not sure how much detail there is about that relationship.) But this book really is about the romance between Chris and Salome. The fact that Chris is bisexual definitely is a big part of who he is and how that impacts their relationship.

It struck me as odd that Sal cared less about the fact that Chris had been with Luke than he was with her best friend. I don’t want to say too much about the events that lead Chris to be with Salome after being with her best friend. But had he not had that relationship first, there probably would not have been a relationship with her. And that screws with Chris’ mind. Sal feels guilt about it too, but it really messes with Chris, and it takes A LOT of work on his part to get to a good place. Meanwhile, Sal feels once again like she’s an outsider in her family when her brother takes Chris’ side over hers. Like she’s not good enough. Like no one cares what she thinks. And Chris has similar struggles. Why won’t Sal go with him when he needs to leave the memories of his ex behind?

It’s a tricky situation, and there is a lot of upheaval for both of them, but the resolution is a beautiful HEA. I am so enjoying this series! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Throughout The Baileys series, we have gotten glimpses of Kingston — surly Kingston. What is his deal? Why is he so grumpy? The answer is Stella. And their story was worth the wait.

There is so much back and forth between them, it broke my heart. King is so in love with her, but their past history is so muddy and complicated. Their past as teenagers colors every one of their exchanges as adults. Stella’s afraid to let go and be with him, afraid that she won’t survive losing him as a partner if one of his adrenaline junky adventures ends in the unimaginable. And he can’t seem to give her up and move on. Over and over again, King feels like the fool who is in love with a girl who won’t love him back. But when Stella finally takes the jump, it’s magical and the payoff is so worth it!

Bring on Sedona’s story!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Flirtasaurus, by Erin Mallon

Flirtasaurus - BT Banner (1).jpg

Flirtasaurus, an all-new quirky and fun, laugh-out-out romantic comedy from debut author Erin Mallon is available now!

Flirtasaurus_Ebook_Amazon

My name is Calliope and “I bone for a living.” Kidding. I am studying to be a paleontologist though. It’s the only thing I’ve ever wanted to be, and I have finally landed the perfect museum internship to make all of my dino-loving dreams come true.

Trouble is, everyone wants me to be a gentle, loving sort of creature, but I’m more of the T-Rex type by nature – the kind who is determined to stomp and tear her way through any obstacle in order to get what she wants.

But when a sexy, rumbly-voiced astronomer plummets into my orbit and threatens to break open my hard little heart, my career and my whole way of looking at the world is suddenly on the line.

The dinosaurs didn’t see their asteroid coming.

And I sure as hell wasn’t prepared for mine.

Excerpt:

“I literally have no idea what you’re—”

“Your asteroid friends killed my dinos!” I say with a bit too much force, I’m guessing. Yup, my buzz can now officially be promoted to drunk.

“Ohhhhhhhhhh. Okay. Yeah, I guess that’s… Wait. You’re mad at me for that?”

“Maybe.”

“Huh.”

He takes a moment to consider his response. And then he shocks the hell out of me.

“What else can I say to you then, other than… I am incredibly sorry, Calliope?”

“You’re what?”

“I’m sorry.”

“I don’t think a guy has ever said that to me before.”

“What. That he’s sorry?”

“Yeah.”

“Wow.”

“It’s pretty… um. Well, it’s… it’s kind of. It’s really sexy behavior.”

“Oh. Well, in that case… let me take it a step further then. I, Ralph Anderson, take full and complete responsibility for the death of your dinos.”

“Shut up, dude,” I say, laughing.

“No, no, really! Had I known that a massive asteroid would strike this planet and wipe out the creatures you so dearly love, and if I had the power to go back in time and stop it… I would.”

“Well, how in the hell would you have done that? That’s impossible. That’s—”

“Hey, Callie?”

“Yeah?”

“Go with me here, will ya? I’m letting myself be unscientific and non-literal for just a minute.”

“You called me Callie.”

“I did. Is… that okay?”

“Nobody really calls me that. But, yeah. It’s okay.”

“Cool,” he says with a smile. “So, Callie. I guess what I would have to do… You know, after I time traveled back a few millennia—”

“A few?”

“Alright, more than a few. I’d have to invent a rocket since they wouldn’t be invented just yet, shoot myself up to the heavens, then circle the Earth’s atmosphere until I could hitch a ride on that bastard ball of flaming rock dead set for your dinos. I would latch onto it with my brute strength and push that mammoth motherfucker off course until it found some other planet and some other life form to obliterate. Then I’d fall back to Earth like a feather, land back on a cozy couch with you and our pet, Troodon, since Troodon is obviously and by far the most precious dinosaur to ever walk the planet, and we’d watch Friends, drink Yoo-hoo, and laugh our asses off together until the day we died a peaceful non-apocalyptic death.”

This. Guy.

“Uggadah-uggadah. Woo!”

“What was that? Did you just do a little jig?”

“Of course not. I just had a-a, uh…. a charley horse situation.”

“Really? I thought those only happened when people were sleeping.”

“Oh no, they can happen anytime.”

“Huh.”

Truth? I was so turned on by him at that moment, I did a lusty little leg shake to get those warm and fuzzy feelings moving right back where they came from.

Full disclosure?

It didn’t work.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3.5 Stars

Flirtasaurus is a impressive debut romcom from popular romance narrator Erin Mallon! Ralph and Calliope were such sweet, quirky characters, and I liked them very much. From the hysterically awkward meet-cute and beyond, their story was a joy to read.

So why only 3.5 stars? This story had great bones (pun intended!) but the conversations between all of the characters were super wordy. After a while, that got to be a lot to take in. Some dialog was unnecessary and wasn’t necessary to the conversations. I felt that made the story drag at times and like i was pushing through jibberish and it made some of the conversations awkward.

But, the overall story of Ralph and Calliope was super entertaining. They have great banter, and they are likable characters. Even the supporting characters were fun and interesting. I am looking forward to what Erin Mallon puts forth in the rest of this series.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Billion Dollar Date is the debut novel by Bella Michaels — and she knocked it out of the park with this sweet story between Chari and her brother’s best friend, Enzo. Now that I know it is a pen name of a contemporary romance author, I’m dying to know who she really is!

But back to Enzo and Chari. This is pretty standard I’ve-had-a-crush-on-my-brother’s-best-friend-forever fare. Having left their small town after college, Enzo has made millions as the developer of Angel alcohol, the only libation that also has an antidote to make the drinker sober up. But when he comes back for his best friend Devon’s birthday, Enzo can’t help but notice how grown up Chari has become in the years since he’s seen her.

Despite Devon’s warnings to not hurt his sister, Enzo and Chari set off on a hot and heavy long-distance affair. They have a pretty perfect billion-dollar weekend in Switzerland where their relationship takes a pretty serious turn. Enzo warns her that he’s pretty much a workaholic, and for a while they are able to make long-distance romance work. But when Chari falls head over heels in love and wants more out of Enzo, will he fight for her or let her go?

This story had it all. Great characters, nice flow, sexy banter, likable characters and a real sense of trouble in paradise as they had to figure out how to make their relationship work. Was their love worth fighting for?

I did think that the ending was rather abrupt, and kind of anti-climactic. It left me wanting to know more about Chari and Enzo’s future, but I guess we will get glimpses of that in other books to come in this series. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

TEASERS

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

If best friends/roommates/childhood friends/secret crush is your jam, then you will be hard-pressed to find a romcom that packs more punch with all of those tropes than Confessions Of A Bookaholic. Macy and Lucas are that perfect kind of romcom couple: simmering tension, secret crushes, fantastic transition to romantic partners, and a helluva split.

There is great use of their childhood bond, the fact that they grew up next door to each other and are now roommates, and that their parents are best friends. The history between Macy and Luke went a long way in establishing how well they already know each other. Even before things turned romantic, Luke was pulling out boyfriend moves like “Buy Macy’s Monthly Snacks.” How cute!

The only thing I didn’t like was how BONE-HEADED Luke was in purposely pushing Macy away. And when his plan worked, he didn’t even TRY to win her back until he got some prompting from an outsider. I loved his grand gesture and their romantic reunion, but I seriously wanted to slap the dude upside the head for that stunt.

But besides that, Confessions of a Bookaholic was pretty perfect best friends romcom. A bit predictable, a whole lot of swoony and a satisfying ending! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Keeping You Away, by Kennedy Fox

I never planned on returning to Alabama, but circumstances brought me here after years of being gone. Though Lawton Ridge is my hometown, I was hesitant to go back because of her —my sister’s best friend. The last time we were together, she was eighteen, and I was a broken soldier transitioning to civilian life.

Gemma wrote to me while I was overseas and we developed a bond I hadn’t anticipated. I crushed her heart the day I left, something I’ve never forgotten. But now that her dad is my new boss, life just got way more complicated.

Too sweet, too innocent, too good for a guy like me—I should walk away again.

After serving five years in prison for something I didn’t do, I trust no one, but Gemma gradually breaks down my walls and exposes the pain I’ve hidden underneath. For her own sake, I should keep my distance, but it’s nearly impossible when I hear her sweet humming while I work and she slowly draws me back in. It’s a battle I didn’t train for, and one I’ll lose if I don’t keep my restraint—especially since she’s engaged to another man.
Keeping You Away is a slow-burn, angsty romance wrapped up in an intense love story. It’s book 1 in the Tyler & Gemma duet & must be read first.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

AH!!! I have been impatiently waiting for Tyler’s story since I read Liam and Maddie’s duet in the Roommates series, and Kennedy Fox did not disappoint!

Keeping You Away — like the rest of these author’s duets — ends on a cliffhanger. And I just KNEW that was how it was going to end! I need the conclusion ASAP! This story stands on its own, but it is set 5 years after Tyler gets out of prison for helping Liam and Maddie. So if you know that backstory, it helps but it is not necessary because the important parts are all defined. (But Liam and Maddie were a great duet, so go read that one if you have the chance!)

The authors do a great job of nailing all the angst both Tyler and Gemma feel with their unresolved feelings. They only dated for about 3 months years ago, but neither one of them had any closure when Tyler left town to see what else was out there, and leaving her has always been his biggest regret. But Gemma is now engaged to be married — but as soon as Tyler returns, it is clear that her fiance isn’t the one she is meant to be with.

I can’t wait to get my hands on the conclusion of this duet! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Welcome to the party.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Star Bright mixes all of the glitz and glamour you think of when it comes to socialites and debutantes with the raw, emotional baggage of yearning for a place to fit in.

Levi and Stella’s story was fantastic, from start to finish. He’s a grown-up foster kid after a career-changing scoop. She’s a socialite making a family of her own choosing. When they meet at a Bright Young Things party, sparks fly and the attraction is immediate. But Levi is an outsider when it comes to the exclusive party clique and Stella is one of the core insiders, making this the ultimate opposites-attract romance.

What I really loved about Levi and Stella is that aside from their differences in social class, they just clicked so well. Everyone has the same feelings and hurts on the inside. Initially, Levi lies about the fact that he is a reporter, so Stella is understandably wary that he is trying to uncover the identity of Cecelia, the hostess of the BYT parties. And she is desperate to keep Cecelia’s identity a secret for many reasons. And when the fallout happens between them over who Cecelia really is, they both make grand gestures to make it up to the other person. But I really loved that Stella chases after Levi to make things right.

There is a fantastic circle of friends among the Bright Young Things, whom I figure will be the other characters/couples in this series. I can’t wait to see how the rest of this unfolds. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

Reiss - Lead Me Back - 26852-CV-FT

Cutting all ties, Kayla Montgomery drives cross-country to Los Angeles. New start. New life. And an unexpected new job: assistant to Justin Beckett.

The Justin Beckett.

The boy band rebel with the cocky attitude and dreamy bed head who casts a spell over his fans and tests the patience of his handlers.

Now at the peak of Mount Adulthood, he has to build a clean-cut, movie star image. It’s in his contract. No partying. No attitude. No groupies.

To tie it together, he needs a normal girl.

Suddenly, Kayla’s swept up in Justin’s glamorous world, and his arms. But the most dizzying thing is Justin himself. Sweet, generous, reliable, and as eager to shed his past as Kayla is hers.

About that…

Those ties she thought she’d cut? They’ve followed her across the country with her secrets in tow, and they’re about to test Kayla’s courage, Justin’s loyalty, and a love that wasn’t part of the deal.

Excerpt

Standing right there in bare feet, white tattoo-exposing tank, white basketball shorts with an orange stripe down the side, with his blond hair so precisely bed-headed it had to be on purpose, and a gold chain that was the icing on the cake of a look every fashion and celebrity magazine called “douchecore” was Justin Beckett.

From the band Sunset Boys. That Justin.

From the cover of GQ. Twice before age twenty-two.

I considered myself too much of an adult to listen to his music, but I wasn’t dead. The Sunset Boys breakup that spring had drowned Twitter in sobs and DMZ in clicks. Justin Beckett, with his ghostly pale-blue eyes, had been the front man who’d thrown it all away for a crazy night at the Roosevelt Hotel. There had been a party at the pool. He’d beaten a bandmate bloody, gotten caught with another bandmate’s wife and a bunch of drugs in a hotel bathroom. It was impossibly salacious. Like watching a car wreck where everyone was fine except the one guy who deserved to get hurt.

The clean-cut, silky-smooth boy in the band wasn’t so silky smooth anymore. Maybe it was the rough night at the Roosevelt. Maybe it was just adulthood, but he’d transformed into a fully muscled, square-jawed man. His size and presence dazed me.

“Weeze,” he said to his grandmother. “Who is this person?”

Louise gathered the smooth stems into a bouquet and put on her glasses.

“You’re such a big deal you don’t even know your own assistant?”

He shot his gaze to me.

“All right.” He snapped his fingers and pointed to the door. “Get the hell out.”

“Wait,” I snapped. I didn’t want to stay, but I wanted my money.

“I mean it. You got this far. Now get out.”

“You don’t have to be so rude,” Louise said, inspecting a stem.

He grabbed my upper arm and pulled me out.

“Don’t touch me!”

Ignoring me, he opened the door and pushed me outside, joining me in his bare feet and closing the door behind us.

“How did you find me?” he demanded, letting me go.

“I wasn’t looking for you!”

“You one of the ones who parked on Laurel Crest?” He pointed to some street over thataway that I was supposed to know. “Because you’re violating an order of protection.”

“No! You stupid jackass!” With my finger pointed and an insult hurled in a decisively unfannish tone, his face softened for a moment. I almost lost my resolve and smiled.

But he was still the guy who’d gripped my arm so hard it hurt, and that guy could suck it.

“You’re from what paper?” he asked.

“I just got a new phone, and your grandmother dialed the wrong number. She insisted it was you. And I was like, here’s a nice lady who’s not going to have a present for her boyfriend, so I went to get the flowers, which cost seventy-five dollars after I already got a hundred-and-sixty-two-dollar ticket for talking to her in the first place.”

“I like your accent,” he said. “New York?”

“Round it up to eighty.” I held out my hand. “The receipt’s on the kitchen counter.”

His mouth twisted, and he looked at me from shoes to hair. I wished I’d showered after the drive from Vegas.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Lead Me Back is a lighthearted contemporary romance standalone set in the same world as CD Reiss’ The Bodyguard. This is a binge worthy story about an ex-boybander needing a bit of an image cleanup and the fashion designer he falls for.

I always like the celebrity guy/normal Plain Jane trope, and Justin and Kayla’s story did not disappoint. I was hooked from the start, with their adorable meet-cute when she gets his old phone number. There are a few twists in their tale having to do with the past she’s trying to leave behind her as she makes a fresh start.

There are a few instances where we see just how different their worlds are, but Justin is a swoony hero who makes his girl realize that they are just meant to be. Justin starts off all cocky arrogance, but there is such a sweet side to him when it comes to his grandmother and Kayla. (I love books with a feisty granny, and this one was off the chart!)

I absolutely adored Justin and Kayla. This story keeps a nice pace, and the characters are so likable and relatable, I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. They have a sexy, playful banter and I was hooked on these two from the get-go.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

About CD Reiss

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

LD - BT banner

Love Disregarded, an all-new, second chance standalone romance with all the feels from Rachel Blaufeld is available now!

LoveDisregarded-Amazon
When I first met Aston Prescott, I thought I’d be able to let go of him.

I was naive.

He belonged to the private club where I worked, and despite the vast difference in our social status, I still fell for him. I thought he fell for me too, and that our love would overcome any obstacles.

But our relationship was discounted by everyone around us. Our families didn’t support us, and our friends avoided us.

So we moved on with our lives, but then everything fell apart.

The man who once abandoned me is now seeking comfort in my arms, and this time, I’m not sure if I can give in.

Because if I do, I may never be able to let him go again.

Excerpt

“Remember when we first met? Christ, we were young.” I ran my hand through my hair, feeling it stick up at the ends. Cass would have sneered and told me I needed a haircut.

Bexley, who was standing right in front of me, didn’t say a word. We were facing each other, but she left enough space between us so I couldn’t touch her. My hand shook, wanting to close the divide.

“I was a kid then,” she said. “A foolish, smitten girl looking into a window of a world I knew better than to think I’d ever belong to.”

“Nah, you did belong. Do belong. The only foolish person was me. What I mean is, you were the first person I’d ever come clean to, been honest with, you know? I’d never really told anyone about my mom before and her antics. The endless lying in bed. The pining-away bullshit. At least, I thought it was bull, but she was the one who knew what was up. I chose to believe my dad, and that’s on me.”

“You can’t beat yourself up over that. Not your dad, but your mom. Each of them tried to pit you against the other.”

Bexley finally moved toward me and ran her hand down my arm. Her fingers ghosted over mine, and I grabbed hold of them before she could pull away. My grip might have been tighter than necessary, but the fear of her slipping out of my grasp attacked my heart.

“Look, I know he did us dirty, but back then, he held the keys to everything I wanted. Thought I wanted. Money, prestige, power. I’d been raised to think that’s what made life worth living, but I was wrong. And when he took you away from me, it was a loss like I’d never felt, a sacrifice I shouldn’t have had to make. Or you.”

A small tear formed in the corner of her eye. I waited for it to fall, but it floated on a precipice—like the current status of my life.

“I can’t go over all of it again. It hurt like hell then, and it still hurts now,” she said, sniffing back more tears. “I tried my best to move on, and that’s all I could do.”

“I know, but I hate that it happened. That I allowed it to happen at all. And to think I did this to you. My dad took you from me and me from you, and with the way he was, I thought you were better off. It’s no defense. Believe me.”

My heart and head pounded in synchronicity from the stress of dredging this all up. The fact I was here . . . with Bexley. It was all too much.

“I can’t. I said I can’t. Let’s not talk about it anymore,” she begged.

She moved back toward the couch and sat down, dropping her head in her hands. Her separation was an immediate shock to my system.

“I want a chance to make it right.” I knelt at her feet, my jeans cutting into the back of my knees, and I welcomed the pain. “Look at me. Please.”

This time, her tears fell heavy and hard. “Why now? I can’t believe this. What are you doing here? Now, of all times?”

“You can believe it. I’m here.” I brought a thumb to each cheek and wiped the wetness away.

“You’re probably going to go to prison. Then what? We’ll have our second chance with me visiting you behind bars? Oh, that’s so romantic, Aston.”

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3.5 Stars

Is 14 years too long after the fact to recapture a lost love? Love Disregarded is an angsty second-chance romance, full of some twists as Bex and Aston try to reconnect with two marriages and four kids now between them.

The story unfolds nicely as we get chapters from the last and present, and I thought the reader really gets a sense of how Bexley didn’t fit in with Aston’s high-society lifestyle.

This blurb sucked me in, and the story was entertaining and well-executed. I just thought Aston was too pompous, and Bex should have come clean. Her keeping a secret like that is one of my pet peeves when it comes to romance tropes. I needed to see more when it came to their split — it happens as a throw-away line, where I would have liked to have seen more details of some of the things we are TOLD happened, but not shown. I also thought that Aston should have made his intentions known to Bex about his plans with wanting her to wait; would have saved them both much heartache! So for these reasons, this book rates a 3 for me. It was entertaining, and I love how the kids bring them together and how well the families blend. But there were some big chunks in the story that left me unsettled and wanting more.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
