Ilsa Madden-Mills has a knack for young adult love stories, and I Dare You was everything I expected from this author.

Maverick has always had a thing for Delaney, but it takes a dare for her to finally see that he’s not like the other college athlete that broke her heart. I love that Maverick isn’t just a dumb jock, and Delaney is such a sweet heroine, she stole my heart. Mav is actually quite mature for his age, which I so appreciated. There are too many dumb college jocks in this genre, but IM-M wrote a strong, sweet hero.

I Dare You has the right amount of angst, lots of playful banter between two wonderful characters, and a hero who will do anything to protect the women — Mav’s little sister included — he loves, even when it comes to giving up his dream of the NFL. Don’t fall for your best friend’s little sister.

It’s a simple rule of the bro code, but we all love to read a good romance where that’s exactly what happens! And I loved Barrett’s attempts to not fall for smart, sassy Ava! This story was so much more than just the two of them — who have always had a crush on the other — fighting their feelings for one another. The attraction crossed over into their professional lives as well, creating a bigger conflict than just how Ava’s brother/Barrett’s best friend Nick would react. Her father’s business is facing a lawsuit, and Barrett’s promotion hinges on winning a big case for his client — which just so happens to be the opposing side!

On the surface, this story is a forbidden romance because of Nick’s connection to them both; but really, I’ve yet to read a book where that actually prevents the couple from sticking it out! Falling in love with your brother’s best friend happens all the time IRL. I had a bigger issue with the way Barrett withheld some details from Ava, but he turned it around in the end and redeemed himself. Overall, Bro Code is an easy, enjoyable, low-drama read.

Under the guise of creating chemistry for their characters, they enter a no-strings-sex relationship, and then for the sake of the papparazzi, they fake a “Janner” reunion. But the feelings between them are anything but fake, and sooner or later, they will have to confront their very real feelings.

Can Jenna forgive Tanner for cheating on her? Will Tanner get the chance to explain what really happened that day, and forgive Jenna for running away rather than having trusted him? Or will they open up their hearts to one another one more time?

Set against the backdrop of a high-profile movie production, this story was everything I’ve come to love from a Laurelin Paige book. The characters are well-developed and likable, and a couple I was really rooting for from start to finish. A beautiful second-chance romance! “Today meant nothing,” I say. “Our past is in the past.”

“Totally in the past. But when I’m working with you…”

I feel myself inch closer to him. “… what?”

“Sometimes I can’t tell where we leave off and our characters begin.” Is he sitting nearer than he was a few seconds ago?

“I know. I feel the same way,” I confess, and then I’m definitely moving closer to him. Definitely staring at his lips. We’re like two magnets. Simply telling them to stay apart never stops the pull.

“But that’s the job, right?” he says, and his eyes are on my mouth now.

I nod. “We have to put everything aside and just focus on the work.”

“Right. Yes. I can do that.” He’s so close we’re almost touching. Then he reaches his hand out and places it on my thigh. I feel a chill run up my body, and I close my eyes. The warm, heavy feeling of his hand is so familiar and so exciting at once. “Can you do that?”

The honest answer is that I don’t know. I open my eyes and find him staring at me. I get lost in his stare. For a moment, we hesitate.

Then the next thing I know, my lips are pressed against his and his tongue is finding its way inside my mouth. I don’t know who started it, but neither of us can deny this is what we both want in this moment. Have wanted since this afternoon. Maybe since we first saw each other outside craft services two weeks ago.

He cradles my face between his hands and shifts me closer, as though afraid I’ll break our connection.

But I’m not going anywhere. I want more. I swing my leg over to straddle him, so I can press my hips into his pelvis. I groan when I feel how hard he is, groan with the need that’s already built up unbearably between my thighs. I rock back and forth, desperate. Only a few scraps of cloth stand between us, but they’re enough to frustrate me.

He stands up, me still astride him, then he tosses me onto my back in front of him. He kneels on the ground, and I’m lying on the couch of my trailer looking up at the ceiling, and a part of me is wondering how the hell this happened again. But a much louder part of me doesn’t want it to end before we’re both naked and screaming out all our unresolved anger in orgasm.

Before I have time to register what’s happening, I feel Tanner’s fingers creep up my thighs and under my panties. He plays with me, teasing before he plunges two fingers inside my body.

I gasp in surprise and delight.

This. This is what I need.

I let my thighs fall farther apart, giving him all the access he wants. Tanner dances and swirls his fingers around, first deep inside me and then up to brush my clit. “I wanted to let you know that I’m going to do a media tour to talk about my experience as a living donor,” Leo says.

Surprised by his announcement, I emit an involuntary “Oh!”

The royal family is constantly in the news. From the king’s work in parliament and the queen’s charitable efforts to Prince Leo’s diplomatic trips abroad and Prince Marco’s latest antics, there’s plenty of fodder for the media.

“People are curious, and I’d rather they hear the real story from me instead of”—he makes air quotes with both hands—“an unnamed source close to the prince. Who knows? Maybe I can persuade more people to be living donors.”

“That’d be amazing if you could, Leo. There aren’t enough donors, living or deceased.”

He leans forward. “How would you feel about participating in the media tour … coming forward as a transplant recipient?”

It takes a moment for his words to register. When they do, my whole body recoils. “I don’t know…”

I trail off, unable to articulate my feelings. If my donor liver came from a normal person instead of Leo, I wouldn’t hesitate to tell everyone my story.
