The innocent girl I left is gone, and in her place is a sassy single mom I can’t get out of my head. She’s hired me to fix her house, but I have other things in mind.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: The Cleanup, by Megan Green

Title: The Cleanup

Series: Washington Rampage #2

Author: Megan Green
Genre: Sports Romance
Release Date: June 28, 2018
Blurb
Boy meets girl.

Boy screws girl.

Girl gets knocked up.That was my story with Brandon Jeffers, power hitter for the Washington Rampage
and baseball’s biggest bad boy. He came into my life like a line drive to the
face, and he left without looking back.

It’s okay though, because I’m determined to raise this baby on my own. I mean,
women for centuries have navigated parenthood alone…why should I be any
different?

But when the major league star shows up on my doorstep making promises I know
he can’t keep, my defenses go up and my expectations stay low.

Brandon says he can clean up his act…

I’ll believe it when I see it.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

The Cleanup is a cute follow up to The Off-Season, which was the first book in the Washington Rampage series and where Liv and Brandon, the best friends of Lexi and Ian, had their one-night stand. Now it’s a few months later, and Liv is pregnant and determined to be a better mother than her own and raise the baby on her own.

I initially didn’t like that Liv wasn’t planning to tell Brandon about the baby; he deserved to know. And while Liv was technically the one to tell him, Lexi and Ian got involved first and both know before Brandon does. I also didn’t like how big of a role his f-buddy plays in the story, but I suppose that’s to prove the point that he’s a reformed manwhore.

Liv and Brandon are essentially strangers who are expecting a baby, so it was nice to see their relationship build and unfold, and see them fall in love with one another. Overall, The Cleanup is a nice, easy to read romance, with a story that ties up in a pretty HEA bow.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

New Release: Eternity’s Awakening, by Anne Malcolm

Anne Malcom is stopping by today for the release of ETERNITY’S AWAKENING, book 3 in The Vein Chronicles! Check it out and grab your copy now!

Title: ETERNITY’S AWAKENING

Author: Anne Malcom

Genre: Paranormal Romance

About Eternity’s Awakening:

Heartbeats had a pesky way of complicating things.

They almost always came with the nasty side effect of humanity and finally… death.

Since Thorne came into my life, I’d been plagued with both.

Heartbeats and humanity.

Both of these things were going to be the death of me.

One way or another.

And the death of everyone I knew and loved, a list growing longer with every beat of my newly repaired—and irritating—heart.

That pesky humanity was almost as toxic as the most debilitating illness on this hunk of rock, killing more humans than any vampire could.

Love.

And there I was, attached to a slayer who I couldn’t be undead without.

Friends who I was becoming increasingly attached to.

All things—people—he would take away from me.

Then he’d take me too.

But if it came to that, I’d yank out my beating heart and crush it in my hands before he could touch me.

It was lost anyway. If he won, my eternity would come to an end. As it happened, so would the world.

That only meant I couldn’t lose.

Exclusive Excerpt:

“We need to talk about him,” Thorne said, his voice tight.

“Who?” I asked, swiping my face with blush and pretending to be innocent.

It didn’t work well, despite me being an excellent actress. Someone as fucked up as me couldn’t even feign innocence; they could only ruin it.

Plus, I knew who he was talking about. I could sense it in his very words. We hadn’t uttered his name since we left the compound, and the all-night sexathon did not warrant such conversation.

Thorne’s quicksilver gaze bored into my reflection. “Your fucking husband.”

I paused for a sliver of a second before I resumed applying my makeup. “I’d say that our marriage is considered null and void after he faked his own death and then tried to kill us both, don’t you?” It was a considerable effort to keep my voice tight with sarcasm and nothing else, but I did it.

“He was something to you, Isla. You told me as much when you told me the story of his death.” He paused. “He was something to you, and now he wants you back. And he’s made it quite clear that he’s going to kill every single person who gets in his way. I didn’t miss your reaction when Alexus said those words.”

I put the brush down, laying my palms flat on the marble counter, glaring at his reflection. “No, he was something to the human I used to be,” I corrected, my voice rising slightly. “He’s nothing to the vampire I am now. Nothing but another target to take out in the middle of this war.” The lie sounded weak even to my ears.

Thorne stepped forward, face tight and blank, his energy swirling around me. “You may be able to lie to yourself about that, but you can’t lie to me. There’s still something there. He still has something over you,” he rasped, coming to stand behind me but not touching me.

I pretended I didn’t care, that I didn’t crave his touch, that I didn’t need it to chase away the sickness that carried Jonathan’s memories. “He doesn’t. Videos weren’t invented five hundred years ago, so he can’t show everyone how dreadfully dense I was,” I retorted. “Nor can he broadcast my equally dreadful fashion sense, so I’m good.”

Abruptly, Thorne’s fist shattered my reflection. Glass rained down around us, and the fragrance of his blood filled the air, mingling with his hot and wild fury.

“Stop it!” he roared, snatching my shoulders to painfully twist me around.

The pop of my shoulder dislocating echoed through the room.

I gaped at his fury-filled eyes. They were so far gone he hadn’t even noticed injuring me in the midst of it.

“Stop with the jokes, with the sarcasm,” he hissed, voice a blade. “I watched it. I watched you fucking freeze and turn into some kind of robot in the middle of the battle at your parents’ house. Watched you walk toward him. Nothing has control over you. Or I’d thought that until I saw him. He has control over you, Isla.” It was an accusation, but it was something else too, something more than jealousy.

Something like dread. A sickening premonition of the visceral fear he’d feel when we were faced with Jonathan again.

But I wasn’t about to inspect it, because it would mean that I had to recognize whatever feelings had been dredged up from the grave along with Jonathan. “No one has control over me, Thorne,” I lied. “Not even me.” My voice was pure ice. “And especially not you.”

I wrenched myself out of his grip and stormed from the room.

He didn’t follow me.

Logan has been running from a death bed promise for years, but he’s finally decided to face his fears and claim his forever. Now all he has to do is convince her to take another chance on love.
Katie buried her husband and made peace with never finding a love that strong again. But when a smooth talking cowboy asks her to dance, fireworks explode, leaving them both desperate for more.
However, their happiness is darkened by a secret – the secret of who he really is.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 3.5 Stars

I had high hopes for Honor based on the blurb, but it just kind of was an okay read for me. The story had lots of things that I liked about it — and I loved that Katie was a curvier heroine. But Katie and Logan just didn’t click for me, and I think a lot of it had to do with their first interactions at the bar. I just couldn’t get past the dialogue between them. It didn’t feel like a natural flow of conversation to me, and the sex talk during their first encounter had me rolling my eyes. After that, it just remained a thorn in my side for the rest of the book and I never fully fell in love with them as a couple.

As far as characters on their own, however, Logan and Katie were well-written. She’s a spunky, sassy spitfire, and he’s admired her from afar for so long, sacrificing his own happiness for hers. There are definitely swoon-worthy moments in Honor, and the story itself is an emotional unrequited love romance.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Raised all over the country, I’m an interesting mix of East Coast meets West Coast with a little bit of Southern thrown in, just for good measure. I married a sexy man in uniform who let me spawn and am now raising a mutinous army of hell raisers that I created myself, all while he defends our country. I drink too much coffee until it’s late enough to drink too much wine and am sexually frustrated for your freedom. If you see me online, I’m probably sitting in a closet, hiding from my kids.

AJ Alexander
Fluent in sarcasm, Supernatural, and song lyrics, I like talking to people and finding what makes them tick, though that probably has to do with the Psychology degree. I’m up before the sun because my kids don’t sleep, chugging tea and coffee to keep my eyes open and my brain semi functional. Being married to a man in uniform means I’ve lived a lot of places, survived seeing my husband for half the amount of time I’ve been married, and spent a lot of time raising my kids alone.
I love to write messed up psychos with lots of angst, happily ever afters that have to be worked for. Women with sass and backbone, men with a twisted hero complex and the need to control are my favorite to read as well as write.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Getting Schooled, by Emma Chase

Head of the class…

Garrett Daniels has this whole life thing figured out.

The cocky, charismatic former high school star quarterback is an idolized football coach and “cool” teacher in the hometown where he’s not just a golden boy — he’s platinum. He has good friends, a great house on the lake, and the best damn sidekick a man could ask for: Snoopy, the albino beagle.

Then…Callie Carpenter comes home.

And knocks him right on his tight end zone.

Back to school…

Callie has a pretty sweet life herself…on the other side of the country. But circumstances — that she’d prefer to never speak of again — have brought her back home, helping out her parents and substitute teaching at her old high school.

Now she’s facing bickering, raging hormones, constant gossip, awkward weirdness, and drama galore…and that’s just the teachers.

Just like old times…

When Garrett offers to show his former high school sweetheart the secrets of his winning teacher ways, Callie jumps at the chance – and then has to stop herself from jumping him.

Good friends are all they can ever be.

Or…these teachers just might end up getting schooled — hard — by love.

 Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Adorable second-chance romcom with all the feels — it made me laugh, it made me cry! Callie and Garrett reconnect 20 years after they broke up as college students when she moves back home to NJ after a family emergency. He’s now a history teacher and football coach at their old high school, and Callie takes over while the drama teacher is on maternity leave.

I loved seeing Callie and Garrett fall in love all over again — or realize that they were still in love with one another. Even more entertaining was the cattiness and craziness amongst their co-workers and the students at the school. I love the friendships between Callie and Garrett and their friends, and the relationships that they have with their students are raw and real.

Getting Schooled is a light and easy read, very entertaining and full of heat and charm. Plus, it’s set in my homestate, which was a bonus for me! Like our Jersey boy Jon Bon Jovi says, who says you can’t go home? I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Today C.R. Ellis is here today to share her new romance WHY STARS CHASE THE SUN! Check it out and be sure to get your copy today!

Title: Why Stars Chase the Sun

Author: C.R. Ellis

Genre: Contemporary Romance

About Why Stars Chase the Sun:

JADE

Twenty-four hours.

A no-strings-attached adventure with the most gorgeous man I’ve ever seen—this was my alcohol-slash-lust-fueled proposal, and given before I could consider the potential ramifications. While his looks alone are enough to make a girl swoon, it’s the rest of him—a perfect balance of mysterious, sweet, and effortlessly charming—that draws me in. Through his cryptic comments and half-answers, he’s quickly become an enigma I’m determined to solve.

One way or another, this adventure promises to snap the stagnant, lackluster pattern my love life has been locked in lately.

Is it naïve and a little reckless to think this won’t blow up in my face? Probably.

But the bigger question is the only one I need to answer…

Is the chance to soar among the stars worth the risk of being burned when the sun eventually rises?

EMMETT

Love is a mistake I won’t make again.

My rules are simple. Keep things surface-deep. Don’t make plans. And never, ever get attached.

One look at her is all it takes for me to break my first rule.

One conversation with her is all it takes for me to question everything.

Which means accepting her proposal is bound to be a mistake.

She has no idea who I am or what kind of demons I live with, so I tell myself there’s no harm in spending one day with her. But the more I lose myself in her, the more she brings me out of the darkness and into her light, the harder it’ll be to let her go.

When reality comes crashing down on us in the worst way possible, I have to decide between walking away…or risking everything for the woman who breaks all of my rules.

Exclusive Excerpt:

“Am I crazy?” I asked, turning to face Jas. I texted her an SOS half an hour ago while I was buying goods to bribe her awake with, then I let myself into her apartment and woke her up with coffee and a chocolate-filled croissant. I wasn’t even convinced she’d be sober yet, but I had tossed and turned all night, weighing my options, so letting her sleep in wasn’t high up on my priority list.

I knew what I should do. But the problem was what I should do and what I knew I was going to do were not the same, and I needed to justify why I was about to spend twenty-four hours with a man I barely knew. (Side note: does there need to be any more justification other than the sex appeal practically pouring off him with every single breath he takes? Nope. Not for a reasonable, straight female who appreciates a hot man when she sees one.)

I sat on the edge of Jasmine’s bed, twisting my hands nervously, finally quiet for the first time since bursting into her apartment fifteen minutes ago. I’d blabbed ninety miles a minute, going back over the events of last night and verbally weighing out the pros and cons.

“First of all, bless you for bringing me the elixir of the gods,” she called from underneath her covers. “Also for speaking in soft tones. As far as the whole twenty-four hours with Emmett, you’d be crazy not to go. You did see how stupidly hot he is, right? Shit, if you don’t wanna do it, I will. I could definitely find a way to pass the time with him.”

I glared daggers at her. “Not funny. But seriously, if I’m doing this, you’re going to have to get your ass out of bed and help me pack an overnight bag because I’ve got,” I paused, checking my phone for the time, “twenty-one minutes before I have to leave.”

Jasmine’s eyes flew open and she quickly assessed my appearance. I’d opted for a casual look with a loose-fitting soft pink top and black shorts over my bikini (because hopefully meeting at the lake actually entailed getting in the lake), and just the bare minimum of makeup.

She balked, sitting up and easing out of bed with her eyes trained on me. “Please tell me those are just your coffee run clothes.”

I shrugged. “We’re meeting at the lake. Plus, it’s not like I had a whole lot of direction about what we’ll be doing today. I don’t even know if he’s thought about it.”

I’d been too busy ping-ponging back and forth with indecision about going to meet him to consider today’s agenda. Though, our day together should include seeing Emmett shirtless again…because damn. His body was made for being on display.

“Oh, please,” she deadpanned. “He’s thought about today. Did you not see how he was looking at you last night? I know I was heavily intoxicated, but he was studying you like you were the subject of a final exam and he was desperate for an A.”

I shook my head, half in disbelief and halfway as a last-ditch effort to keep my hopes from soaring through the roof. I’d known since sometime around seven, when I finally gave up the idea of sleep, I’d be going through with the twenty-four-hour non-relationship madness, but I also had to remind myself today was all there was.

Twenty-four hours. No strings. No tomorrow.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: The Bombshell Effect, by Karla Sorensen

Title: The Bombshell Effect
Author: Karla Sorensen
Genre: Sports Romantic Comedy
Release Date: June 14, 2018
Cover Designer: Najla Qamber

Allie Sutton just got a new job.

Not one she wants, and definitely not one she’s prepared for. She hadn’t seen her dad in years, so the last thing she expects upon his sudden death is to inherit the thing he loved more than anything (or anyone) … the professional football team he owned for the last twenty years.

Luke Pierson does not want a new boss.

What he wants is to be a good father to his daughter, the best quarterback possible for his teammates. What he doesn’t need is a blonde bombshell ruining the team’s chances at another championship. Especially when that bombshell turns out to be his new neighbor. The neighbor he was a complete jerk to the first time they met.

For the sake of the team, they treat each other like complete professionals. In public, at least. Behind closed doors, it’s a different story. And the fallout of giving in to that heat is something neither one of them can see coming.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

The Bombshell Effect has all of the components I look for in a good sports romance. And Luke is a single dad, too! Bonus!

The first few meetings between Allie and Luke were classic — they both made assumptions about the other, but MAN, did his a-hole behavior towards her come back to bite him in the behind! Big time! From there, their professional relationship is strained thanks to all of the sexual tension brewing between them. Being neighbors lends to some steamy moments between Luke and Allie away from the football team, which eventually leads to their no-strings relationship.

While I was rooting for this couple to work out their issues and get their HEA with adorable little Faith, I did have a problem with the fact that Allie and Luke knew practically nothing about one another before the big declaration of love. (And since Luke had some major groveling to do, it really was a BIG declaration.) I just found that to not sit right with me, especially after Luke realized while they weren’t speaking that he didn’t know much about Allie’s routine or life outside of the team. Well, then, find out, dude! And I didn’t feel that the reader got to know much about Allie’s estranged relationship with her dad, which was such a huge part of the beginning of the book and colored Luke’s initial impressions of her. Did they not ever have a conversation about that? Did it happen in between the scenes that I read?

That aside, The Bombshell Effect is an easy, entertaining story between a wound-tight single dad and the new female owner of the football team he plays for, who shakes up his world with a sack he never saw coming. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Well, let’s see … I’m a wife and a mother. If the things that I write bring a smile to someone’s face, then I’ve done my job. I am obsessed with Outlander (both the books and the show). I’m almost exclusively a romance reader, which means some people will never consider me a literary snob. If I could meet one historical figure, it would be Jane Austen. I received my Bachelors in Public Relations and worked in health care marketing before I had my babies. I hate Twitter. I do it, but I hate it. Also, if you want to get on my good side, bring me wine and I’ll love you forever.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Love Redefined, by Delancey Stewart

Title: Love Redefined

Series: Kings Grove #3

Author: Delancey Stewart
Genre: Contemporary Romance/Women’s Fiction
Release Date: June 26, 2018
Blurb

Chance Palmer is the hottest bachelor in Kings Grove, and even his
younger brother Sam sees him as a playboy and a charmer. It’s nice to be
admired, but Chance is ready for something serious–something like the love he
had once before. The love he refuses to talk about.
Michaela “Mike” Grayson fell in love once. And though that
relationship gave her the son she’d never trade for anything, it came with a
darker side she’s still trying to escape.

When Michaela’s job requires her to scout a tiny town called Kings Grove as a
potential resort destination for her company, she’s not prepared for what
awaits her there:  a charming playboy with a knack for making her feel
like everything in her world just might work out fine. And Chance is unprepared
for the feelings he finds inside himself for Michaela, and for her son, Finn.

Can Mike overcome the darkness in her past enough to trust that Chance might be
more than just a fantasy? Can Chance Palmer move past the pain of his first
love and fall again?

This is Book 3 in the Kings Grove Series. Each book can be read as a
standalone. Perfect for fans of Melody Grace, Bella Andre, Jill Shalvis and
Susan Mallery.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

When I read Love Reimagined, Chance’s brother’s story, I honestly thought Chance was a bit of a jerk. So I loved finding out more about his backstory in Love Redefined. He was a much deeper character than I though he would be, and was surprisingly sweet. Michaela (Mike) really knocks him off of his feet, and watching him develop a relationship with her son, Finn, as well really showed what kind of guy Chance actually is.

Mike and Chance both have past issues to overcome due to past heartbreak, and once they develop and build a trust for each other, they help each other heal and find that love can be redefined. A wonderful story of letting go, breathing in and learning to love yourself and someone else again!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
