Title: Someone Like You

Author: Alexandra Silva

Genre: Contemporary Romance

About Someone Like You:

Dorian Anson is my friend. She’s the only person who’s ever questioned my smiles. My jokes. The one liners that have our friends shaking their heads at me.
I’ve lived my life on those smiles. They never failed me, until her.

I wasn’t counting on her when I designed my front. I never imagined the possibility of someone like her coming into my life.

The wild hair, the kind smile and those eyes that see everything.

She was the girl with the beautiful soul, pretty face and whole heart. But hearts aren’t made to stay whole.

I watched hers break. I watched her tears fall. I watched as her world tilted on its axis and shattered at her feet.

This girl.

She sees me, all parts of me—the truths I try to hide, the secrets I bury. What’s mine and what’s not.

She sees it all, and I can only hope the truth isn’t too much. That she won’t walk away.

That she won’t leave me…alone.

We both have a past. We have ghosts. We have fears.

I’m hoping that somehow in the end, we’ll have each other too.

I’ve never needed anyone before her, and I know I’ll never want anyone else after her.

There is no one like her.

My pretty girl.

Dorian.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Over the years our girls’ nights had become more of a child friendly affair. Gone were the cocktails and in was the tea. Willow and one of our friends, Beth, had stumbled on this gem of a tearoom a while back and we’d made it a point to hold our monthly catch-up sessions here. It was a small little teashop in a quiet little residential backstreet close to Willow’s flat in Kensington.

Molly and Pippa enjoyed the vintage dress up box and us older girls liked the natter. Quincy, Willow and I were childhood friends.

Quincy was probably the strongest person I knew. We’d lost Phillip, her brother, and on top of that she’d suffered a stillbirth and divorced her cheating, scumbag of a husband after finding out she was pregnant with Pippa.

I thought that I’d die when I’d found out that Phillip was gone, I couldn’t remember anything but the sheer pain. There were times that it still hurt as much now as it did then. Especially when Phillip’s absence, his death, impacted our son. Losing the man you thought you’d love for the rest of your life was a bitch, but merely thinking of the possibility of losing Daniel, that was enough to truly kill me.

My sweet boy.

“Oh god, this has got to be the best brownie I’ve ever had.” Quincy moaned as she shoved the rest of the small square in her mouth. “If we come here more often, I’ll have to join a gym.”

“I think it might be worth it though.” I giggled, as I watched Molly and Pippa wrap white feather boas around Beth’s and Willow’s shoulders.

“What’re you giggling about over there?” Willow looked between me and Quincy, her eyes narrowed at us like she suspected we were keeping something from her.

“Nothing.”

“The cake.”

“You say nothing,” she gestured toward me and then over at Quincy, “she says cake. Which is it?”

“Cake.” Quincy and I both sighed. It was good cake, almost better than sex, or what I remembered of it.

“I can think of something better than cake…” Beth snickered, waggling her brows at Willow. Her Welsh twang was something that made me smile to this day, I swear she could make the Hail Mary sound dirty.

Molly looked between us, her face pinched in confusion as she said, “Uncle Jake says there’s nothing better than cake and ice cream.”

“Speaking of,” Beth stood from her makeover chair and sat back at the table with us, “how did the football thing go?”

“Good.”

“Just good?” Quincy asked as she examined one of the mini scones glistening with jam and clotted cream atop.

“Yes.”

“Why’re you being so evasive about it?” Willow gave me one of her curious looks.

“I’m not, the match went well, they won. It was nice of him.” I glanced over at Pippa and Molly who were going through the dress up box again.

“Yeah, it was really nice of him.” Beth sang a little too teasingly.

“Stop it.”

“Come on, Dorian, you have to admit he’s a little bit nice himself.”

“Beth.” I warned as she shrugged like I was the one being silly.

I didn’t want to talk about him with them. I didn’t want to think about him any more than I already did, especially about how pleasant he was to look at or spend time with.

“She’s got a point, Dory, he’s actually…you know…” Quincy smiled, her cheeks blushing like she was saying something inappropriate.

“Yeah, he’s hot until he opens his mouth and then you want to slap him or snap his tongue off.” Willow rolled her eyes as she poured herself another cup of tea. I internally chuckled at her indignation, she and Jake were very alike in the way they interacted with people. They didn’t let many people in, but when they did, they were loyal to a fault. Not to mention that they were both great at pressing people’s buttons.

“I love Uncle Jake, he’s my goddaddy like you, Dory.” Molly chimed as she and Pippa sat at the table with us.

“I’m your godmother, sweetie.” I couldn’t help but tap her little button nose with the tip of my finger, something she always pulled a sort of sour face about, but never complained.

God, I’m that aunt that pinches cheeks and coos like a bloody overbearing fool.

The thought alone made me cringe as I then started to imagine myself as the cat lady on the second floor of my building. Nice to everyone, but essentially invisible and alone. As unlikely as that would be with this lot around, it still struck a dissonant chord and it made me uneasy.

When did I become this person? I asked myself, the answer immediately flashing in my mind as a pair of distant, beautiful brown eyes and a soft cheeky smile. Phillip.

“I still struggle with that decision.” Willow groaned.

“He’s great with the kids,” I sighed, trying to ignore the pang my thoughts had brought with them.

“Because he’s a child himself.”

“You know he’s not that bad.” I’d known Jake for over a decade. We’d spent a lot of time with one another. I’d learned that there was a lot more to him than what most people saw, and a part of me didn’t know what to make of that.

I didn’t understand why he’d allowed me to see him in all those lights, but it made me happy, even if that happiness brought a sting of guilt with it.

“But, he is hot, and he likes spending time with you.” Beth smiled. “Anyone would think he might like you…like you. Plus, you need to get back into the tango of things.”

“I can barely balance Daniel and work, and thinking about people like that…well, I don’t know, it seems wrong. Oh, and I have a child.”

Thinking about Jake like that didn’t feel wrong, what felt wrong was thinking about him in one breath and in the next thinking about Phillip. Sometimes I wondered if I would still think of Jake like that if Phillip were still here. If we’d even be friends like we are. The worst part of it was the panicked feeling at the possibility that we might not be the way we are if Phillip hadn’t died.

It was a panic laced with guilt and self-loathing because what if I still felt all the same things toward Jake even if Phillip was here?

It doesn’t mean you’d still be together.

The thought made me cringe. I couldn’t imagine not being with him, not when we had Daniel.

“I have Daniel.”

About L.B. Dunbar

I’ve been accused of having an over-active imagination. To my benefit, this imagination has created over twenty novels, including the creation of a small-town world (Sensations Collection), rock star mayhem (Legendary Rock Star series), MMA chaos (Paradise Stories), rom-com for the over forty (The Sex Education of M.E.), and a suspenseful island for redemption (The Island Duet). My alter ego, elda lore, creates magical romance through mythological retellings (Modern Descendants). My life revolves around a deep love of reading about fairy tales, medieval knights, regency debauchery, and strong alpha males. I love a deep belly laugh, a strong hug, and an occasional margarita. My other loves include being mother to four grown children and wife to the one and only.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Work In Progress is a perfect piece of work! I am immensely enjoying the Red Lipstick Coalition series — but as much as I adored Rin and Court, and Val and Sam, I LOVED Tommy and Amelia! And the fake marriage trope is often hit or miss for me, but there was nothing that I didn’t absolutely love about this book!

The set-up is all kinds of juicy: Mousy book blogger Amelia, who has some major anxiety issues and can’t talk to strangers, meets hotshot author Thomas Bane at a book signing. She loves his books, but hates his heroes, and he knows it. It’s become a personal mission of his to have her rate one of his books higher than 3 stars. Struck with a major case of writer’s block, Thomas asks Amelia to help him write his next novel, give him the hard truths, reign him in. When Thomas gets into some legal trouble shortly thereafter, and needs to clean up his image pronto, the fake marriage is hatched between fiction’s bad boy and the book blogger world’s good girl. Naturally, it doesn’t take long between the fake feelings become very real for either of them.

Image may contain: one or more people, flower and text

I absolutely loved the contrast between dark Tommy and light Amelia, in everything from their physical looks to their personalities to their outlooks on life. She’s a trusting soul, he trusts no one. She literally looks like a pixie angel, he’s dark and brooding, complete with untied combat boots and long, dark hair. Staci Hart crafted the picture-perfect opposites attract couple.

And what I loved even more was how Tommy and Melia acted behind closed doors, when they were supposed to be “off” and not on display. I never would have guessed that he would be the gentleman that he is. Tommy falls for Melia and falls for her hard, and he’s so sweet and genine and gentle and tender with her every step of the way in their relationship. Amelia has zero experience when it comes to dating — she’d never even been kissed prior to their quickie fake wedding — and all of Thomas’ relationships were faked publicity stunts. Neither one of them know what to do when it comes to a genuine romance, but they figure it out together every step of the way.

Image may contain: one or more people, flower and text

As with every great romance, there comes The Conflict and The Break-Up. But in Work In Progress, it’s not the hero who wrongs the heroine. Tommy, who always felt that Melia was too good for him and he’d taint her by bringing the innocent, sweet bookworm into his twisted world, is the wronged party in this case. But Amelia was only trying to protect the secret he holds closest to his heart, and that may have been her biggest sin.

The vulnerabilty that Tommy shows is remarkable. And how Amelia grows as a person, learning to trust herself and find her brave face, is remarkable. This couple will forever be one of my favorites.
This couple truly is a Work In Progress, and it is a beautiful one. I can’t wait to see what happens next with the last remaining roommate, Katherine, and Tommy’s brother, Theo! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

About the Author

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey.

From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

New Release: Sunny Shelly Reviews Hollywood Playboy, by Natasha Madison

Jessica

An entertainment journalist was the last thing I thought I would be doing.

I thought once I got my degree, I would be reporting on stories that made a difference, but now all I do is report on who broke up with who and who is dating who.

I was over it.

Then I got my next assignment.

He’s Hollywood’s bad boy.

He works hard, and he plays even harder.

He’s rude, he’s condescending, and he’s made it known he doesn’t want me on the tour.

With one month on the road with him, two things might happen

One, I may never work in this industry again.

Two, I may just be like everyone else and fall for Hollywood’s Playboy.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Natasha Madison is a hit or miss author for me, but I loved Hollywood Playboy! I thought the premise was great — Tyler and 10 reporters on a worldwide press junket and he HATES one of them. Of course! Because he and Jessica are meant for each other!

The chemistry between them is sizzling, and Tyler really opens up around her. They slowly develop a friendship, and the reader goes on the journey with them as they begin to realize there is something more developing between them.

But when a photo is leaked that will ruin Jessica’s career, was it all part of Tyler’s revenge against the hottest celeb reporter? Or will he prove to be a reformed Hollywood Playboy? He really does go all out to prove that he’s a better man, and I cried happy tears with the end of this story. Not just the fantastic reunion, but the two epilogues!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Secret Nights, by A.M. Hargrove

50714509_2554193311274465_251908447614795776_n.jpg

BLURB
They both had secrets dirty enough to tear them apart …

What started out with a mysterious stranger saving me from a horrific fate,
turned into a beautiful affair with a man covered in scars he wouldn’t acknowledge.
Reese’s perfection was marred by hidden shadows behind his gorgeous blue eyes.
I was desperate to learn what had caused him so much pain.
How could I intrude on his secrets when I had plenty of my own?
Only my story was so ugly, it was buried deep, and I had no desire to reveal it.
Discarded like trash by my father and left with my druggie mom, I was forced into things no one should have to bear.
But I learned to survive.
In Reese, I found ways to overcome the pain in the warmth of his bed.
Every night, my body and soul screamed for more.
I’d return and share things I’d never shared with any other man.I feared if he ever discovered the real me, I’d be out of his life faster than a speeding bullet.Shame forced me into silence, knowing this fairy tale wouldn’t last.
But I was in too deep to let go.
When that tragic day came and he discovered my truths, he also learned something else … that I was a survivor and I’d fight for what I wanted.
Him.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Secret Nights is such a gritty, raw and dark romance, but out of it comes a beautiful bond between two broken souls who lift each other up. Reese is a secondary character in From Smoke To Flames, but his is a true standalone.

Reese is a trust-funder, recovering addict. A senseless attack ruined his life and stripped him of his career, leaving him floundering. Skylar is an escort and stripper, tortured in the way no young girl should have been, and doing her best to survive. She’s not living. Neither is he. But a chance encounter brings them together, and thus begins their secret nights together, where she would arrive at his apartment after her evening clients.

During those secret nights, Skylar and Reese find kindred souls in one another. But he’s holding back from letting her see the real him, and her career is something he’s not sure he can live with. But can he live without her?

As much as I liked the story between these two tortures souls, I did find that there was an awful lot of sexy between Reese and Skylar. A lot. Almost to the point where they aren’t communicating about their issues because they are just having wild, passionate sex. I would have liked to have seen deeper discussions between the two, and them not using sex as a distraction to what was really going on in their lives.

Still, Secret Nights will hook you from the start! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

My life was perfect – until a shocking tragedy pulled the rug out from underneath me.

My children were left without a father. I was without a husband and a provider. Instead of wallowing in my grief, I buried myself in my work at Dovetail Enterprises. Landing the promotion as the CEO’s right hand was exactly what I needed.

Getting saddled with Milo Huxley as an assistant is exactly the opposite.

I can’t stand him.

He’s arrogant, irresponsible, and out for my job. As if that’s not bad enough, he has to be devastatingly sexy, and have a posh English accent that makes me squirm on top of it all. I’ve had enough unpredictability for one lifetime, thank you.

But soon enough, we’re fighting less and laughing more. He’s there for me when no one else is. And those good looks aren’t the only panty-dropping thing about him.

If I only knew what to do about it . . .
