Sunny Shelly’s Review: Stay Together by Kaylee Ryan

Stay Together by Kaylee Ryan is now live!

Rushton

From the moment I see her, I’m hooked. There’s just something about Crosby that has me eager to know her. One thing’s for sure, I can’t stay away from the new kindergarten teacher with the kind smile and secrets in her brown eyes.

There’s no hiding in a small town, and she’s suddenly everywhere. My family loves her, my niece won’t stop talking about her, and I…well, I just want to make her mine.

Crosby is everything I didn’t know I was doing looking for, but the wall she keeps up makes it impossible to love her the way I want to. I have to figure out how to tear it down, and fast— because she’s not so sure she’s sticking around, and I’m not prepared to let her walk away from Willow River… or me.

Crosby

Another new town, another new school. But this time I’m not the struggling new kid; I’m the teacher. It’s hard to let go of my past, when it refuses to let go of me. I live in a constant state of unease, never knowing what the future holds. Especially when it comes to love.

Rushton isn’t like other guys. He’s open and honest. What you see is what you get. He’s made his intentions very clear. But I’m afraid getting involved only spells heartbreak for both of us. If growing up in foster care taught me anything, it’s not to get too close and definitely don’t get comfortable.

So, I learned to be good at goodbye. But for the first time in my life, I’ve found a place I want to put down roots. Rushton, his family, Willow River, my students—they all make me wish for once that I could stay. That we could… stay together.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Stay Together is another great story in the Kincaid Brothers series! I fell hard and fast for Rushton, and how patient and kind he was with Crosby. I loved the meet-cute between these two in the hardware store, and then we later discover that Crosby is little Blakely Kincaid’s kindergarten teacher.

Crosby has had a tough life, so she arrives in town focused on securing a contract with the school district to meticulously plan her future. Dating anyone is not a part of her plan — neither is falling for Rush. At first, the chase is part of what Rush is attracted to, but the more he gets to know Crosby, the more he realizes he likes her. She’s been beaten down by life and is fiercely independent because she’s had to be, but Rush sees how loving and generous Crosby can be and is determined to be the one to break down her walls.

Despite Crosby’s best efforts to keep Rush at arm’s length, he keeps showing up time and time again to show her just how important she is, just how valued she is… and just how loved she is. I loved watching these two characters fall in love!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: One Look by Lena Hendrix

One Look by Lena Hendrix is now live!

I’m a full time single dad. A former NFL player turned coach, tasked with turning around a college team full of kids who either don’t take it seriously or are determined to get injured. I will absolutely not be falling for my new neighbor, despite the number of times my meddling brothers try to set us up.

Lark Butler is pure chaos wrapped in gorgeous, infuriating sunshine. She showed up out of nowhere—getting paid to cry at a funeral, no less. Who does that? But somewhere between offering her condolences and crawling out of a literal grave site, we’ve found ourselves tangled in the drama of Outtatowner, Michigan-my coastal hometown with a decades-old feud and two aunties determined to end it.

I’m finally putting down roots so my daughter has a normal life and I need to forget about Lark. Forget the way it felt the night we kissed or what it’s like to finally take something just for me. But when those sparks ignited, it was more intense than either of us bargained for.

Trouble is, I can’t trust her, and she never stays.

She’s burning my carefully laid plans to the ground and all it took was one look.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

One Look was a charming new small-town series starter from Lena Hendrix! I was hooked on Wyatt and Lark’s connection from the moment they met after she’d fallen in a grave. HILARIOUS! The connection between these two characters was lovely, and this book had all the small-town feels that I have come to expect (and love!) from Lena. This story is ripe with a sweet and sexy romance, family drama, and meddling townsfolk. And you have to love the name of Outtatowner!

College football coach Wyatt had only planned to hop in and out for a family friend’s funeral, but being back in town for just one night made him realize how much he and his young daughter, Penny, were missing out on by being away from his family. Lark, meanwhile, was only in town for an acting gig (as a paid mourner — hilarious!) but felt a connection to Outtatowner and decided to stick around for a bit. Eventually, Lark begins working as Wyatt’s assistant/nanny to help him organize his life, watch Penny, and mind the three college athletes in his care for the summer. Their connection slowly progressed in this slow-burn romance and built up to an explosion. Boy, is Wyatt a dirty talker!

As much as I adored Wyatt and Lark, I loved the setup for the other brothers and sister Kate and can’t wait to see what comes next in this series!

From USA Today and Amazon Charts bestselling author Meghan Quinn, comes a new fake dating, standalone sports romance featuring the hockey men you can’t get enough of and love. This steamy, age-gap romantic comedy will bring all the laughs while making your cheeks blush at the same time.

Running into your ex is never ideal.
Running into your ex who is now dating your nemesis is a literal nightmare.

That’s how I found myself in a sheer panic, reaching for the closest guy at the bar and kissing him. And to my delight he was easily the most attractive man I’ve ever seen.

The only problem is, when I tried to walk away after thanking him for his help, he stopped me with three life-changing words . . .“You owe me.”

That’s how I found myself, a college girl, in a fake relationship with a professional hockey player ten years older than me.

At first it was easy.
He helped me with my internship.
I helped keep his ex away from him.
We were becoming fast friends.

It wasn’t until he started staying the night at my dorm did the rules of our arrangement become complicated.

Now my feelings are involved and even though I kissed the right man at the right time, I’m worried he’s just waiting for the clock to run out.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Donkey Pervert Stars

Oh, Meghan Quinn does it again! I seriously don’t know how she comes up with the stuff in her books, but each one is funnier than the one before it.

Return to the Vancouver Agitators series with this hilarious age gap, fake relationship romance between Silas Taters and college student Ollie, who has zero clue who he is when she accosts him at a bar to pretend to be her boyfriend to save face in front of her ex, who is now dating her work nemesis. But before we even get to that scrumptious meet-cute, prepare to have your heart broken wide open when Silas gets his heart broken in the prologue. It’s no wonder the guy keeps everyone at an arm’s length. But after Silas pretends to be Ollie’s boyfriend, he thinks that having her as his fake girlfriend may be just what he needs now that his ex is working for the Agitators organization.

An awesome friendship forms between Ollie and Silas as they get to know one another, with hilarious scenes involving chicken tenders, donkeys, and the zoo. The sexual chemistry between them is undeniable and the more they try to fight it, the more they find it nearly impossible to stay away from each other. The slow burn between Silas and Ollie is well worth the wait, and it is explosive when they finally give in. I listened to this story on audio, and I may or may not have done a second listen to Chapter 17 as a read-along with the e-book because Joe Arden is just that dang sexy!

Then there is the conflict between Ollie and Silas, and the miscommunication was heartbreaking because the issue at hand played on all of his fears and insecurities, and obliterated her life at the same time. I was in tears reading those few chapters!

I loved how Joe Arden and Stella Hunter voiced Silas and Ollie, and their duet narration just made it that much more enjoyable. There are also some cameo appearances by JP Cane and Ryot Bisley, tying this book to that world.

I loved Silas and Ollie’s story, and will be keeping it on my re-read list! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Things go from awkward to unbelievable when Lars knocks down a wall and discovers a divorce certificate dated ten years in the future…with both their names on it. Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

End of Story is a charming enemies-to-lovers romance with a mystical, paranormal twist. The last person Susie wants to work with to restore her aunt’s crumbling home is Lars — the best friend of her ex, who had cheated on her. Things get even more awkward between Lars and Susie when they find an old divorce decree hidden in a wall of the house — THEIR divorce decree, dated in the future! As Lars and Susie try to figure out the mystery of their marriage and divorce, they discover that they are wildly attracted to one another… and Lars turns out to be exactly what Susie needs in her life.

This story is relatively short, and easy to read. The mystical aspect of it was interesting, a nice twist to the standard enemies-to-lovers fare. Once these two got past their bickering, Lars and Susie were really well-matched. You definitely need to suspend belief a bit with End of Story, but it’s a great — if unconventional! — journey that is sweet, sexy, and swoony. Narrator Andi Arndt did a great job in telling Susie’s story!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: The Least Amount of Awful by Jennifer Millikin

He’s a single-dad, and her employee. Falling for him is a terrible idea.

The Least Amount Of Awful by Jennifer Millikin is now live!

Colbie Jones has worked hard to design a pain-free life. So when she catches her boyfriend cheating, it doesn’t hurt that much. But when Colbie receives a call that her estranged father, Emmett, has been badly injured, she realizes it’s time to pack her bags and finally face him—and that’s going to hurt.

Colbie’s arrival sends shock waves through the small town, but it affects Jake Whittier most of all. Single-dad and foreman of Jones Construction, Jake sees Emmett as the father he no longer has, and that makes him an opponent of all things Colbie Jones.

Jake’s obvious animosity doesn’t bother Colbie, because she’s leaving in three days, tops. But then her dad asks her to stay and take over his business while he recovers, and Colbie hears herself agreeing before she has fully considered the proposal. Never mind that she has no idea how to build a house.

Jake will just have to deal with having her around.

But the more time Colbie spends with Jake, the more she sees why the rest of the town likes him. And once Colbie meets Jake’s son, it’s all downhill from there.

Colbie thought the most challenging part of this arrangement would be having to work with Jake.

But falling for him?

That would be awful.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Oh, how I enjoyed The Least Amount Of Awful! This multi-layered story was an absolutely charming small-town, reverse boss/employee romance, but it was also a lovely story about family dynamics, redemption and forgiveness, healing, hope, and letting go of the past.

I was hooked on Jake and Colbie right from the start — their meet-cute at the convenience store had me laughing because they did not get off on the right foot AT ALL. So of course, the annoying Thor would end up being here dad’s best employee and surrogate son. Staying in Green Haven was not part of Colbie’s plan — and neither was falling for Jake and his adorable son, Robbie.

Jake and Colbie are two broken characters each carrying around a whole lot of hurt and abandonment issues, but when they are together, it is easy and effortless to be with one another. It is also easy and effortless for Colbie to develop a relationship with Robbie. However, the complications in their relationship come from her estrangement from her dad, Emmett, who is like a second father to Jake, and the sudden return of Jake’s ex, who wants custody of Robbie. Jake has a hard time reconciling how the man he knows, the man who so desperately missed his daughter, was the same father that Colbie felt had abandoned her, and Colbie doesn’t want to be the woman who stands in the way of Robbie having a relationship with his mom.

There are a lot of ups and downs in this story before Colbie and Jake get their HEA. But it’s a wonderful journey, so well-written, and compelling!

After reading this book, I am itching to get to the bottom of Georgia and Rhodes’ “friendship” and can’t wait for their story!!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: No Small Bet by Samantha Christy

No Small Bet by Samantha Christy is now live!

I’m not a dad. I don’t care what any paternity test says.

My grandfather thinks he can manipulate me into being a parent. He can’t. No one can. Not even the pudgy-faced newborn I’ve reluctantly agreed to take home from the hospital.

I’m not a dad. But I’ve also never accepted a bet I can’t win.

One year with the kid. That’s all I have to do to double my trust fund. Fail and I could lose everything.

But I can’t do it on my own, and the only nanny that has lasted longer than two days is forbidden. In a major way. Maybe that’s why she’s become my obsession. Even if she comes from my enemy.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

How did I not suspect that Addie Calloway would find the love of her life with one of the McQuaid brothers?? I have loved Addie’s spunk since I first met her in the Calloway Brothers series, and appreciated that she and her best friend Holland had developed a friendship in spite of the rivalry between their families. Then I met Hawk McQuaid — this couple had me hooked from the start!

I love a story where the cocky hero is brought to his knees, and we got that in spades with Hawk. That character really went on quite the journey in this book, and he grew immensely. Meeting and falling for Addy really brought out a different side to Hawk, and the cocky bastard from Chapter 1 was not the same devoted husband and father who brought me to tears in the epilogue. Hawk was an unexpected surprise of a character!

Samantha Christy wrote a beautiful story with these two characters. Especially when it came to Addie’s prosthesis. While she’s confident and doesn’t let her disability stop her from doing anything, there was one part where she’s really made to feel less-than because of her lost limb. With Hawk, however, he almost revered her for the warrior she is for having survived what she had. Both characters have literal physical scars, and I loved how their vulnerability bonded them.

No Small Bet was a fantastic start to a new series about the McQuaid brothers. This was a beautiful story of finding love in an unlikely place, the healing power of true love, self-forgiveness, and redemption. I honestly don’t know how SC is going to top Hawk and Addie with the rest of the boys!

Meet Samantha Christy

Samantha Christy writes sexy new adult and contemporary romances. Although each book is written as a standalone, her series’ tie together so you’ll enjoy seeing characters pop up over and over again.

Regardless of where you start your Samantha Christy journey, you can count on three things: Every book feels REAL (you’ll see bits of yourself in each heroine.) Every story has PAIN (because what’s a good romance without it?) And all her heroines find LOVE (because true romances have an HEA.)
Real. Painful. Love.

Samantha enjoys life as a full-time author under the warm Florida sun with her husband and four children.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Say You Love Me Again, by Carrie Aarons

🧡❤️ NEW ROCKSTAR ROMANCE ❤️🧡

Looking for an angsty, spicy rockstar romance? Say no more! Carrie Aarons’ just released Say You Love Me Again, and this book amazing! This is a rockstar romance between a divorced celebrity couple trying to co-parent while keeping their dirty secrets out of the press … all while still being tragically in love with one another.

BLURB:

Who wouldn’t jump at the chance to spend a few months on a concert tour traveling the country? Did I mention that the famous musician headlining it is the ex-husband who walked out on you?

When I met Levi Truin, we were young, rich, famous, and beautiful. Nothing could go wrong, we had the world at our fingertips. Except millions of dollars, marriage and a baby all before twenty-two isn’t all fun and games. And when my indiscretion caused it to come crashing down, we were just another Hollywood couple on the cutting room floor.

Seven years later, Levi and I are the poster children for exemplary co-parenting. Attending red carpet events in support of each other, Sunday night dinners for the sake of our daughter, and her private school functions where we save seats and make polite conversation. The articles paint us in the healthiest of lights, because none of them know the truth.

So when he wants to take our daughter on tour, I have a decision to make. Let her traipse around venues with a nanny, or tag along and somehow survive sleeping in a bunk below my ex for months.

We go on the road, taking our demons and heartbreaks with us. And as we spend nights together with the highway lights flashing past the windows, that familiar spark reignites. Old hurts are discussed, wounds I guard tight are exposed, and my ex-husband makes confessions I’ve been waiting years for. Against all odds, he might just be able to love me again.

But then the dirty details of our long ago breakup get leaked to the press, and the newly fledgling relationship might be doomed from the start.

Lies, silence, and miscommunication are the things that ripped us apart. Can we push past our scars to reunite our family after everything we’ve been through?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

So. Much. Angst.

I have been a long-time reader of Carrie Aarons, and as much as I love and adore her lighthearted romances, I have always had a soft spot for one of her earlier novels, Down We’ll Come Baby. And Say You Love Me Again was very reminiscent of that angsty, marriage-in-jeopardy story.

Supermodel Sophie and rock god Levi were Hollywood’s It Couple. But their marriage fell apart within months of their daughter Hart’s birth. This book is set seven years after their split, and it is so full of angsty goodness between two people who so clearly still love and adore one another but don’t know how to get past their past. They have mastered co-parenting and putting on a happy face and have created a modern family unit for Hart. But while Levi and Sophie have individually moved on from the hurt of the past, they are both terrified to admit that to the other and confess that they still love the other. Their deep-buried secrets rise to the surface and explode when they are essentially trapped in a tour bus when Sophie and Hart join Levi on a music tour.

This book is wonderfully written, and I was up way too late reading it. Carrie Aarons masterfully wrote a story about postpartum depression and mental health. Sophie’s journey was difficult, and I appreciated how we got to see Levi’s side of things too. These characters both grew and became different people after the events that tore apart their marriage, and I adored going along for the ride as they journeyed back together!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Slow Burn by Jessica Prince

Title: Slow Burn
Author: Jessica Prince
Series: Redemption

Contemporary Romance, Small Town, Single Dad, Nanny, Virgin Heroine

When she started on the path to her new life, she never could have guessed where it would lead her.

Deva Kent spent most of her life dreaming of escaping. She hated being forced to live among the Fellowship of the Enlightened, the small community closed off from the rest of the world, and was desperate to spread her wings and discover something new. When she applied to be a nanny for a single father and his two-year-old son, the Fellowship wasn’t happy, but she knew that was her fresh start. However, she never thought she’d end up falling for the man with more baggage than he could carry and storm clouds in his eyes.

Laeth Harker’s world fell off its axis the morning a past one-night-stand showed up on his doorstep with a son he knew nothing about in tow. He barely had his own life together and didn’t know the first thing about caring for a child. But after spending most of his life screwing everything up, he was determined to do right by his own flesh and blood. He just didn’t know where to start.

When Laeth hired Deva on as his son’s nanny, she was supposed to make his life easier. But the way he felt about her was the very definition of complicated.

Their feelings might have started off at a slow burn, but once it catches, it’s hot enough to set the world on fire.

SLOW BURN

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Another great addition to the Redemption series!’

Reading Deva and Laeth’s story made me think of what it would be like for sheltered Jana Duggar to be hired as the nanny for a hot single dad! Deva led such a sheltered life up on that mountain with the Fellowship community, but she had so much spunk and moxie despite her upbringing. She was strong and secure and had so much common sense despite her insecurities and not knowing anything about social norms.

Laeth’s life was turned upside down when a former one-night stand showed up at his door with a toddler and handed Cash over for him to raise. Still tormented from his time in the Army, Laeth had been living his life with a series of one-night stands while drowning his demons in booze. Now, he has a son to protect and live his life for. And it’s not long before Cash’s nanny also claims a place in his heart.

This slow-burn story captivated me from the start and I read it in a day. Deva and Laeth are perfectly matched; she calms him and he introduced her to a world she was just itching to be a part of. I thought Jessica Prince did a great job of writing all of Deva’s “firsts” — not just romantically, but her first time drinking coffee, driving a car, and being in the library… it was so well done! There is a real sense of made family among Deva and the people she meets in Redemption, like her friendship with Lyric the librarian, and Poppy and Farrah. I loved seeing another side to Bennett, and how Myra “adopted” Deva and saved her from a life of hell.

Slow Burn was a wonderful story to get lost in!

BLURRED LINES

Born and raised around Houston Texas, Jessica spent most of her life complaining about the heat, humidity, and all around pain in the ass weather. It was only as an adult that she quickly realized the cost of living in Houston made up for not being able to breathe when she stepped outside. That’s why God created central air, after all.

Jessica is the mother of a perfect little boy–she refuses to accept that he inherited her attitude and sarcastic nature no matter what her husband says.

In addition to being a wife and mom, she’s also a wino, a coffee addict, and an avid lover of all types of books–romances still being her all time favs. Her husband likes to claim that reading is her obsession but she just says it’s a passion…there’s a difference. Not that she’d expect a boy to understand.

Jessica has been writing since she was a little girl, but thankfully grew out of drawing her own pictures for her stories before ever publishing her first book. Because an artist she is not.

I used to think I loved him.

But that was before I hated him.

He doesn’t remember who I am, or how he made my life miserable for years. And before I unknowingly moved across the street from him, I couldn’t have cared less. I was living my life despite him and what happened that summer, chasing my dream of becoming a tattoo artist.

“The Pit,” as the university so gracefully nicknamed the house he lives in with three other football players, has served as nothing more than a pain in my ass and a constant reminder of the boy who broke my heart. Watching him parade his one-night-stands in and out of it never helped, either.

But with rent this cheap and so close to the tattoo shop, I’ve learned to ignore him — no matter how he’s tried to get under my skin.

At least, until this summer. Because when a water and mold disaster leaves me with no choice but to vacate my house, I have nowhere to go. And Leo Hernandez offers me a deal I can’t refuse.

Live at The Pit with him and the guys, free of charge, until my landlord fixes this mess.

Ignoring him was easy when I lived across the street, but in the same house, with him shirtless half the time and watching me with his cocky grin and searing gaze? It’s impossible.

Still, I have to try. I have to push him away, even when he makes it infuriatingly difficult to do so.

He’s broken my heart once.

I won’t let him do it again.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I could not put this book down and I could not have loved Hail Mary any more! I really wanted to hate Leo after reading the first chapter, but then we got his version of the events that took place when he and Mary were 15 and… oh, my heart! He was just as torn up about things as she was! Of course, she didn’t know that, so her hate for Leo festered for seven years, and he was completely clueless about who Mary was to him.

I loved that the reveal happened mid-way through the book — and the payoff was so, so good, I read that chapter twice! — because I loved seeing how they worked as a couple. These two were so head-over-heels in love with each other, but both had their issues and scars as a result of their teenage years. Leo always felt like he had to “be on” and never felt comfortable in his own skin. And Mary was subjected to years of torment and bullying as a teen. Even after the truth all comes out, she still doesn’t fully trust Leo’s intentions because of how hurt she’d been in the past as a result of his actions. Or inactions, as the case was.

But watching this couple blossom was wonderful to read. There is a scene of SA in this book (not between Leo/Mary), which ultimately leads to The Conflict between the two. And it leads to a great reunion between them.

Kandi Steiner is an Amazon Top 5 bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.”

She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.

When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, planning her next adventure, or pole dancing (yes, you read that right). She enjoys live music, traveling, playing with her fur babies and soaking up the sweetness of life.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Made For You by Natasha Madison

Release Date: February 14

From Wall Street Journal and USA TODAY bestselling author Natasha Madison comes a brand new stand-alone enemies-to-lovers grumpy/sunshine sports romance.

A spin-off from the Only One series

Vivienne
I did the last thing I ever expected to do. I bought a boat. A beautiful boat that was all mine to spend the summer on.
Only thing I was looking forward to was the calm being on the water brought me.
A place where I wasn’t a hockey dynasty princess or the only single girl of the family.
What I wasn’t looking forward to was the broody man in the boat next to me.

Xavier
I was at the top of my game two years ago.
Then it all came crashing down.
I hung up my skates and vowed to never play again.
I was good at hockey, but hockey was bad for me.
I planned to spend my life on my boat with my dog.
Alone. Happily alone.
Until she came along.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

For the second couple in Natasha Madison’s Made For series we get Xavier and Vivienne, and I just fell in love with this grumpy/sunshine couple! He is a broody loner, a former hockey pro, who lives alone with his dog, and his world gets turned upside down when hockey royalty moves into the yacht next slip over at the New York marina he now calls home.

They definitely did get off on the right foot, and that just made their falling in love that much sweeter because, dang, I love an enemies-to-lovers romance! Once Xavier started opening up to Vivienne, my heart cracked open for the cranky brute. He really had a rough go with things with the last team he played for before his fall from grace, and my heart went out to him. In return, he got to see a side of Vivienne that not many people know, and I loved how Xavier fangirled after finding out her secret!

This story has the perfect amount of spicy and sweetness. I also found this book to be a bit deeper than some of the other Natasha Madison books I’ve read simply because Xavier’s mental health is such a big part of this story. And I thought that Madison handled it wonderfully.

Bring on Abbie!
