Sunny Shelly’s Review: Wildflowers and Wide Receivers by Katherine Andrews

WILDFLOWERS AND WIDE RECEIVERS by Kathryn Andrews is AVAILABLE NOW!

Blurb:

Wildflower and Wide Receivers is a second-chance, contemporary sports romance about our hero who unexpectedly becomes a single guardian over his five-year-old niece and the one who got away.

When fate throws a second chance . . . catch it.

Jonah Dallmann

Over two years ago, I met a woman on New Year’s Eve, and it was the best night of my life. That is until the next morning when it became the worst.

One voice message. One swerve over a double yellow line. One little girl, my niece, that’s now mine.

It hasn’t been easy, these things never are, but we’re trying. Now, I’m twenty-six, and determined to be the best wide receiver on our team, while she’s seven and spends her days reading books and dancing ballet.

Only, I haven’t just grieved the loss of my brother, but her too. My heart has ached for what could have been, and what I had to let go. I know what I did to her was wrong, unfortunately, I never had an opportunity to explain that at the time I thought I was right. But as the door opens and she steps in wearing green scrubs and a long white coat, shock ripples through me and hope that I might finally get the chance.

Sophie Black

I always wondered if this day would come, but I never expected to see him here, with her, in one of my patient rooms. He’s even better looking than I remember and giving off single dad vibes, too, as he cares for his adorable niece. A niece I didn’t know he had.

I was surprised when he asked if he could see me again, but I instantly declined. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Only now we keep running into each other, and I’m confused. Is fate throwing us a second chance, and if so, should I catch it?

I could not have loved Wildflowers and Wide Receivers more!

Jonah and Sophie meet at a New Year’s Eve party hosted by mutual friends. They have an instant connection, share an amazing night together, and he leaves the next morning planning on returning later for more. But unbeknownst to Jonah, his brother and sister-in-law were killed that night, leaving him the guardian of his 5-year-old niece, Vivi. Somehow they never again cross paths until Vivi has an accident and it turns out that Sophie is the orthopedic doctor Jonah takes her to.

From there, this story evolves into a wonderful second-chance romance that also deals with the many delicate layers of grief and mourning. Jonah is such a cinnamon roll hero. I adored how gentle he was with Vivi; the death of her parents impacted them both tremendously. I also loved how affectionate he was with Sophie, not wanting to waste the second chance he’d been given with Sophie, the one that got away. He wasn’t afraid to be vulnerable or show emotion; I loved that about him.

Meanwhile, Sophie had a plan for her life and career. Reconnecting with Jonah, and falling in love with him and Vivi, definitely has her rethinking what she thought she wanted out of life. Sometimes, you have to embrace the unexpected, because it’s exactly what you need!

And then… And then… the meaning behind Wildflowers and Wide Receivers! Oh, Jonah!

I am looking forward to getting to know the rest of the Tampa Tarpon guys!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Dining For Love by Valerie Pepper

DINING FOR LOVE by Valerie Pepper is AVAILABLE NOW!

Blurb:

She’s not expecting love. He’s not planning to stay.

Willa Dash’s sheltered life is perfectly wonderful, thank you very much. She loves cooking at her family’s diner and enjoying everything her tiny beach side town has to offer—despite her mother insisting her talents would be better showcased at a Michelin-starred restaurant far away from home.

Big city cop Reid MacKinnon decamps to Lucky after his undercover sting goes bust. His plan is simple: help his police chief uncle by patrolling the town, and lay low while the D.A. builds a case against the bad guys back home.

All his plans go up in flames when he comes face to face with adorably klutzy Willa, who stammers and tries to hide from him every time they meet. Considering he’s her new neighbor, that’s…a lot. It’s not long before making her blush is his new favorite pastime, and this small town? It’s beginning to feel a lot like home. Now he needs to convince Willa to give their relationship a real chance—and not be taken out by the hitman sent to finish him.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I am so glad I took a chance on reading author Valerie Pepper for the first time, because Dining For Love was adorable! A quirky diner waitress and an undercover detective from Miami hiding out in a small beach town…. I loved Reid and “Just Willa” so much!

From their first meet-cute to their vows of love and all the make-out sessions in between, this book was a gem! And it was so funny! Plus, there’s a bit of suspense in the mix with the case gone awry that Reid was working on back in Miami. Both characters show a lot of growth by the end of the book as well. Willa has led a rather sheltered life. A traumatic incident at culinary school has made her clam up. But throughout her relationship with the hot cop passing through town, Willa really comes into her own and learns to stand up for herself. Reid, meanwhile, was kind of anti-relationship, and never envisioned himself settling down in a small town. What starts out as a situationship with an expiration date turns into so much more for these two!

I would really love to see whatever is going on with Willa’s sister, Goldie, and best friend, Matt, explored in the next book!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Meet Valerie Pepper:

Valerie Pepper is an incurable optimist and a firm believer in the girl getting the guy, or the guy getting the girl, or the girl getting the girl, or the guy getting the guy, or basically any way it needs to happen to make a real-life happily ever after, even if it takes more than one try.

When she’s not writing, you can find her reading, hiking, listening to whatever music suits her mood, and hanging out with her family. She’s fascinated with the idea of a capsule wardrobe, but loves clothes and shoes and boots far too much to make a real go of it.

She’s currently living out her own happily ever after with her husband, kids, and dogs, and maaaaaybe too many shoes. She lives in Birmingham, Alabama, and is the recipient of the Contemporary Romance Writer’s 2021 Stiletto Award.

What to expect:

✔️Small town

✔️Neighbors

✔️Enemies to Lovers

✔️Forced Proximity

Blurb:

Keats is my enemy. And ending up in bed together presents an even bigger complication, considering he’s my grumpy next-door neighbor.

It started with my uptight neighbor being enemy number one. The cocky lawyer always seems to swagger my way with a disgruntled look and piercing eyes when my mail continues to get accidentally delivered to his house. Keats always makes me feisty and annoyed, too. Hence why we’re both always in a showdown where I want to rip his shirt into shreds and maybe his pants, too. Why? Because the attraction is too overbearing and lingers in the air.

And then we snap and give in.

We start the unimaginable. We unintentionally start a neighbors-with-benefits kind of thing. But I begin to see a different side of Keats, and it turns out he isn’t the kind of man I thought he was. The fact that he turns possessive or moves me right into his home due to my house complication tells me that he feels something, too. Our relationship development blindsides us, and neither one of us is sure where this will end. After all, we never planned on being everything I wanted…

Banter, steam, and low on angst, Everything I Wanted is the first in the Everhope Road series, a spin-off from the Lake Spark world. It can be read as a standalone. Readers who love small-town, enemies-to-lovers, next-door-neighbor romances with no third-act breakup will fall for Keats and Esme!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Evey Lyon kicks off a new series with Everything I Wanted, a delicious enemies-to-lovers romcom! Esme and Keats were hilarious (I loved how he called her “his demon”) with their mailbox arguments that led to hate-sex and then eventually so much more!

Workaholic lawyer Keats and free-spirited photographer Esme are as different as they come. They have different approaches to everything in life, and while that definitely causes many arguments between them at the start, it also helps them balance each other out. Their situationship changes when Esme’s house catches on fire, Keats becomes her white knight riding to her rescue.

The Everhope Road series is in the Lake Spark world — Keats is a lawyer for the Spinners, and is the brother of Summer (Should Have Been, Lake Spark Inn #3). I loved Summer’s visit with her brother and how she kind of lit a spark under Keats and got him to realize that the woman he loved sparring with keeps him on his toes in a way that nobody else has before.

I am looking forward to more from this series, especially after that tease with Hailey and Oliver in the end!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Of Heartbreak & Harmony by Brit Benson

OF HEARTBREAK AND HARMONY by Brit Benson is NOW LIVE

Blurb:

He burned me once.

This time, I won’t be the one consumed by the flames.

Torren King is rock-and-roll’s broodiest bachelor.

Mysterious, moody, and coveted by nearly everyone.

But to me, he’s just the sad boy who set fire to my heart,

then reduced me to ashes in the desert.

For four sweltering nights, I burned for him,

and he conquered my heart one whispered lyric at a time.

But on the fifth night, he shattered me in the way only a flawless rock god can:

irreparably, and with devastating finesse.

Four years later, the last place I expect to be is sitting before him,

reading through a contact with a pen poised in my fingertips.

A favor for a favor, he says.

A US tour and a fake relationship in exchange for the answer to all my problems.

I hate him. I hate that I need him.

And what I hate the most?

He doesn’t remember me. At all.

But despite the burning chemistry between us,

the rapidly blurring lines and the suffocating attraction,
he’s still the rock star who ruined me,

and I refuse to let myself forget.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Brit Benson delivers another spectacularly angsty story in Of Heartbreak and Harmony, the second book in the Hometown Heartless series!

There’s an instant attraction between Torren and Callie when they first meet, and they spend a wild few days together. But then he pulls the rug out from underneath her, and everything comes crumbling down. Years later, Torren and Callie reconnect when he needs a favor. Specifically, a fake girlfriend. With little options at the time, Callie has no choice but to accept his proposition. Even though being so close with the guy who broke her heart on a tour bus is the last thing she wants.

BB wrote a story so full of angst and heartbreak. It is a delicious slow burn, and I loved seeing Torren unravel as the layers of this broody hero got peeled back. Because she was burned by Torren years ago, Callie enters their arrangement with nothing but hate for him… and I loved seeing her fall in love once again with the guy who broke her heart.

Torren is one of Savannah’s bandmates (Between Never and Forever). While this book goes back and forth between Callie and Torren’s past and present, the “present” timeline is set after BNAF. It is a standalone, but for the full experience, I would recommend reading BNAF first.

UPDATED FOR AUDIO: Stella Hunter and Stephen Dexter did a great job capturing the nuances of Callie and Torren. I read this book when it first came out, and these two narrators helped me fall in love with Torren and Callie all over again.

I can’t wait to read the rest of this series! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Meet Brit Benson:

Brit Benson writes real, relatable romance. She likes outspoken, independent heroines, dirty talking, love-struck heroes, and plots that get you right in the feels.

Brit would almost always rather be reading or writing. When she’s not dreaming up her next swoony book boyfriend and fierce book bestie, she’s getting lost in someone else’s fictional world. When she’s not doing that, she’s probably marathoning a Netflix series or wandering aimlessly up and down the aisles in Homegoods, sniffing candles and touching things she’ll never buy.

If This Were a Movie is the kind of romcom that you know would make a great cable Christmas movie!

When Jules had an amazing one night stand with sexy Nate, she thought she found The One. He checked off all her boxes and was pretty darn perfect. But then she finds out that he has a family (or so she thinks) and blocks him. Fast forward a year, and Jules crosses paths with Nate on the worst day of her life. And their second meet-cute is absolutely adorable: his little girl, Sophie, has decided that Jules is the real-life ballerina her dad is meant to marry. And Nate is shocked to see the one who got away.

Conveniently, Nate needs a nanny, Jules needs a job, Nate has a guest cottage, and Jules needs a new place to live. With Jules back in his life again, Nate sets out to prove to her that they are meant to be.

This is the first book I’ve read by Morgan Elizabeth, so I didn’t know what to expect. And it was so cute! It has all the feel-good moments, some spice, and a heartwarming relationship between Jules and Sophie.

If This Was A Movie needs to become a movie!

Writing has been her calling for as long as she can remember. There’s a framed ‘page one’ of a book she wrote at seven hanging in her childhood home to prove the point. Sunny Shelly’s Review: Tangled Up With You by Jessica Prince

Tangled Up With You by Jessica Prince is AVAILABLE NOW

My mother always gave the best advice. I just wish she had advised me to stay away from bull riders.

One in particular.

Connor Bennett is a walking red flag I could see coming from miles away, but I was a sucker for his rakish smile, his irresistible charm, and that world class behind always wrapped in a tight pair of Wranglers.

I told myself I’d learned my lesson when I woke up and discovered he ghosted me, leaving a note behind on the pillow where his head should have been. Unfortunately, that wasn’t true.

High emotions and too much booze during a mutual friend’s wedding lands me back in his bed, but this time I make sure I’m not the one left high and dry once the sun comes up.

Even though I can’t stop thinking about him, I convince myself I’ve worked him out of my system. However, two pink lines a few weeks later make it impossible to pretend he doesn’t exist.

We make an agreement. We’ll co-parent once the baby is born, but nothing more.

There certainly won’t be any more hanky panky.

But it turns out Connor has other ideas and wants to share more than just custody with me.

I’m trying so hard not to fall for that charm a second time, but my hormones are going crazy and he’s doing and saying all the right things.

Despite all reason, I find myself wanting to get tangled up with him all over again. I just don’t know if I should trust the bull rider not to trample all over my heart.

I remember Ivy as a sassy little preschooler in Hayden and Micah’s book (Love To Hate You from the Hope Valley series), so I was happy to see her all grown up and still a bit of a wild child! (Connor, meanwhile, is the son of one of the Cloverleaf couples; I have not read that series from Jessica Prince’s back catalog, so I didn’t have that connection going into this book that I had with Ivy.)

We got to see the beginning of Ivy and Connor’s friendship in The Little Things, as he is friends with Zach and occasionally worked on the ranch when he was in between bull riding stints. Tangled Up With You picks up after Ivy and Connor spent a wild night together — and then he freaked out and took off without a goodbye, leaving her humiliated and brokenhearted.

Once they got over their issues, I thought that Connor and Ivy balanced each other out well. At first, I didn’t like Connor all that much for ghosting Ivy. Ah, but he was burned by his ex and his mentor, and the boy has intimacy issues. When he returns to town for Zach and Rae’s wedding, Ivy consumes all of his thoughts and eventually he realizes what he let go and sets out to win her back.

Overall, I really enjoyed Tangled Up With You. I wish there would have been more of Connor and Ivy together as a couple. So much of the book is the push and pull between them, him trying to make things up to her, and her keeping him at a distance because he’d already broken her heart once before. I felt like their actually being together was rushed, and I didn’t get to enjoy that payoff.

I was super excited to hear from JP that Blythe will be getting a book and Tanner Fine will be coming back to town!

I may not have been driving the truck, but I didn’t stop it.

Escaping the town was the only thing I could do to survive the guilt.

I was wrong.

One look from him and I knew I wasn’t welcome.

Yay! Another new spinoff series from Natasha Madison and Shattered Dreams started off STRONG! Get the tissues ready because this book is TOUGH but has the most wonderful HEA once

Charlie is the son of Quinn and Willow from the Southern series and the grandson of the magnificent Casey Barnes. As the book begins, Charlie, Autumn and their friends are in a horrible car accident that ends in two fatalities: Charlie’s girlfriend Jennifer (also Autumn’s best friend) and Autumn’s boyfriend Waylon, who was driving. For several reasons, Autumn took the brunt of blame for the accident, and ended up leaving town to get away from it all.

Eight years later, Charlie is a shell of his former self. Consumed by grief, he has never moved on and still visits Jennifer’s grave almost daily. Autumn isn’t doing much better, and when she comes back home to help with her family’s bar, she quickly learns that Charlie — and most of the town — still blames her for the accident.

Shattered Dreams is an emotional, heartbreaking story of grief, loss, and recovery. Once Charlie learns all that Autumn went through and realizes that she was an easy target for his grief, it’s like a switch is flipped and he is ALL IN when it comes to trying to make things up to her.

There are so many emotional moments in this story, each one better than the last. Shattered Dreams is definitely going to be on my re-read list! I can’t wait for the rest of this series!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Shuttered Hearts by Erin Graves

SHUTTERED HEARTS by Erin Graves is NOW LIVE!

Blurb:

One phone call changes everything.

Returning to Ashford Falls was never part of the plan for Quinn Marks. It reminded her too much of her mother and a past she was desperately trying to keep there. But sometimes plans have to change. Quinn knew the chances of receiving that phone call from her brother about their father were high, but she hadn’t been ready for it. She also hadn’t been ready to meet Declan Day, her new co-worker and, apparently, her brother’s best friend.

Running from a messy situation of his own, Declan hadn’t been sure he would stay in Ashford Falls when he first arrived, but it’s been five years, and he’s still here. He didn’t know how he made it all that time, not once meeting his best friend’s sister, but something about Quinn Marks calls to him. Making him feel things he never thought he’d feel again.

Both had their reasons for steering clear of romantic relationships: Declan with his failed marriage and Quinn with her mother’s example of why nothing was permanent. As they struggle with their feelings and confront the past, will Declan and Quinn realize that it might be worth opening their shuttered hearts to face an uncertain future together?

Shuttered Hearts is a return to hometown, brother’s best friend, found family, emotional contemporary romance set in a fictional small town. This is the first book in the Love in Ashford Falls series, each book in this series can be read as a standalone. Happily ever after, guaranteed!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I’m pretty sure that Shuttered Hearts is the debut novel from Erin Graves, and it was a great read! This emotional story deals with love, loss, trauma, coming home again, and finding oneself again.

I thought that Declan and Quinn had such a great connection. Not only that, but he was such an integral part of her family, who adopted him as one of their own after he had a rift with his own parents. It’s been a few years since Declan got divorced, and he’s still kind of raw and hesitant to get involved with another woman. The last person he expects to fall for his his best friend’s little sister, who is only planning to be in town for a limited time. But these two just *got* one another from their first meeting, and it was a joy to see them blossom and open up to one another as they spent more time together.

Quinn is carrying a lot of baggage. She’s got trauma from her mom’s abandonment, as well as trauma from an attack. Both of those incidents had a huge impact on her, and she questions herself at times… especially when it comes to whether or not she can be the partner that Declan deserves. But these two were so open with their feelings and made it a point to communicate with one another even when the going got rough. I really appreciated that mature approach to their relationship.

Shuttered Hearts is beautifully written. Don’t miss the bonus epilogue, because it was so worth it to get a glimpse into Max’s life, eight years in the future! I am looking forward to more books from Graves!

I should have known everything was going to change when she walked into my tattoo shop…

Timid as hell and gorgeous to the extreme. I knew better than even thinking about touching a woman like that.

My life is dangerous.

My calling wicked.

Willing to cross any line to protect the innocent.

I thought I’d never see her again until my little boy tumbled and busted his lip, and I found her working at the doctor’s office.

The woman who’d taken possession of my thoughts.

When it becomes clear she’s in trouble, I offer up a deal.

Twenty questions to earn her trust.

Too bad trusting me is the last thing she should do.

With one kiss, I’m addicted. With one night, we’re falling into a passion greater than either of us has ever known.

The voices in my head warn I can never keep her. She can’t know the secret life I lead.

Only she’s keeping a secret, too.

And I’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe, even if it means losing everything…

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I know I can always count on AL Jackson to deliver a heartfelt story with twists and turns, and that is exactly what we got with River and Charleigh in From Her to Eternity! This was a great start to the new Moonlit Ridge series!

The story is told in dual POV through past and present chapters. I really got a sense of who River and Charliegh were thanks to the dual timeline. I loved River as a morally gray character. He was utterly devoted to his son Nolan and sister. He tried to stay away from Charleigh because he thought he wasn’t good enough for her, but fate has a funny way of brining people together, and they couldn’t ignore the connection between them after being placed in each other’s paths a second time.

Both characters have troubled backgrounds and are trying their best to move forward. They really do balance each other out as they become each other’s rocks and lift one another up. River is so dang sexy, especially when he’s in protector mode trying to save Charleigh from the trouble that’s followed her to town.

The captivating twists and turns in this story are exactly what I’ve come to love in Amy’s books. I have finished the ebook but am still listening to the audio and loving how Austin Stone and Andi Arndt bring these characters to life.

From The Den to The Nest!

I was so excited to dive into Piper Rayne’s new series, The Nest. Set in the same Chicago apartment building where some of the Grizzlies lived before finding love (aka The Den), the building has been renamed The Nest as it now is home to a trio of hockey players for The Falcons. Mr. Heartbreaker was a great kickoff to this new series!

I loved the connection between Kyleigh/Leigh and Rowan right from the start. Neither of them are looking for anything serious when they begin a benefits-only relationship, but the more time they spend between the sheets, the more time they want to spend with one another outside of the bedroom. It’s not long before their boundaries begin to blur and they become more important to each other than just someone to let off steam with. But neither of them are brave enough to tell the other that their feelings are changing.

Except that Leigh is hiding her true identity from Rowan: Her brother is his former college pal and new teammate. When blow up in the most spectacular way once Kyleigh’s lies catch up to her, will this couple be over before they have a real start?

I simultaneously read this book while listening to the audio, and the full cast narration was spectacular. Sean Masters and Erin Mallon lead the charge as Rowan and Kyle, with additional narration by Troy Duran, Teddy Hamilton, JF Harding, Connor Crais, and CJ Bloom. I am really looking forward to getting to know the rest of this group, especially if Tweetie gets his own story!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
