Sunny Shelly’s Review: Crash With Me by Allie Everhart

Am I willing to start a new life with a guy I’ve only known a few weeks?

Crash With Me, an all-new must-read small town, opposites-attract runaway bride romance full of steam from bestselling author Allie Everhart, is available now!

Brody Kanfield
Impulsive. Messy. Bold.
My complete opposite.
And the guy I met on the day I was supposed to get married.

After calling off my wedding, I ran away… and drove into a blizzard that landed my car in the ditch. Luckily Brody, a big tall guy with gorgeous blue eyes and an easygoing smile, was driving by and saved me.

The plan was to stay with him until the storm passed, but I knew I’d need more time to face what waited for me back home.

So I made Brody a deal: I’d pay him to let me stay there for three weeks, the time that should have been my now-canceled honeymoon. We’d be roommates only, nothing more.

The agreement might’ve worked if we weren’t stuck in his house together for days.
If we hadn’t been drinking.
If we weren’t so darn attracted to each other.

Three weeks later, I don’t want to leave. I never imagined myself with a guy like Brody, but now I can’t see myself with anyone else.

But am I willing to start a new life with a guy I’ve only known a few weeks?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

On the day of her wedding, Kate realizes she is making a horrible mistake by marrying a man she’s not in love with and leaves him at the altar. While everyone in her life thinks she’s made a huge mistake, it turns out to be the best thing she could have ever done for herself. Because by leaving uptight Cam, Kate finds a safe space to truly be herself, be free, and follow her heart with Brody.

Crash With Me spans about three and a half weeks, but sometimes that’s all you need to know what’s right. And Brody and Kate are right. Sure, they are complete opposites. Have little in common. He doesn’t tick all the boxes (or any of the boxes) her parents want her to have in a spouse. But Kate finds peace almost immediately after Brody rescues her in a blizzard that she’s never felt before. And having Kate around makes Brody realize that he doesn’t want to be alone. Being with Kate makes him want to be a better man. There is such a sweet, honest connection between these two, and I loved that. It certainly helped that Cam was a grade-A jerk!

Crash With Me is book 3 in the Kanfield Brothers series, but stands on its own. There are appearances by Brody’s brothers and their girlfriends, but I did not feel like I was missing out on any backstory by not having read the previous books in this series.

This book is a light read, an entertaining escape that is perfect to get lost in on a summer day!

I received a complimentary copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt

“What’s your name?” I ask.
“Katelyn, but I go by Kate. What’s yours?”
“Brody,” I smile. “But I go by Brody.”
She laughs a little. “So you work at the orchard?”
“No. I had enough of that place growing up there.”
“You didn’t like it?”
“It was great. I just didn’t want that being my job. That’s my parents’ business. I wanted my own.”
“So what do you do?”
“Lawn care and snow removal. That’s why I’m out in a blizzard. I was heading to a customer’s house to clear their driveway but decided it’s no use plowing it when it’s snowing like this. I’ll have to wait for the storm to end.”
I slow down as we come into town. There isn’t a single car on the road. Even the plows aren’t out. Snow’s piled up everywhere, some of it drifted over the road.
“Where’s your house?” Kate asks.
“Near downtown. We’re almost there.”
She gets out her phone. “My battery’s dead. Maybe that’s good. I won’t have to hear from my family.”
“So what exactly happened? You just decided you didn’t want to get married?”
I told you I don’t want to talk about it,” she says, sounding annoyed.
“Why? I thought girls liked talking about stuff.”
“We do, but only when we’re ready.”
“What do you have to be ready for?”
She sighs. “Okay, fine. I left. I left my wedding. I couldn’t go through with it.”
“Why?”
She looks at me. “Seriously? We just met.”
“Yeah? So? It should be easier to tell a stranger than someone you know. There’s no judgment. I don’t care that you left some guy at the altar. The bastard probably didn’t deserve you.”
She smiles a little. “Thanks.”
“For what?”
“Saying that. Everyone assumes I’m the problem and that Cam is perfect.”
“Nobody’s perfect.” I glance at her. “Cam’s the guy you were going to marry?”
“Yes,” she mutters. “It’s short for Cameron.”
As we approach the downtown I press on the brakes and feel the truck sliding.
Kate grabs hold of the dash.
“We’re fine,” I assure her, steering us back in the lane. “I drive in this stuff all the time.”
She lets out a breath. “I was having a flashback of going in the ditch. I can’t believe that happened. Cam is going to kill me.”
“That’s his car in the ditch?”
“Yes. My parents took me to the church this morning. I didn’t want to go home with them so I asked Cam if I could borrow his car.” She looks over at me. “Are you always like this?”
“Like what?”
“Asking all these questions. Most guys don’t even want to talk, unless it’s about themselves.”
“I was just wondering what your story was. It’s not every day I find a girl in the middle of the highway during a blizzard wearing a wedding dress.”

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Tara is a wannabe hockey WAG. Hale is the new GM who needs to give one of his players an image overhaul and asks her to pretend to date the guy. Pretty much everyone thinks Tara is nothing more than an airhead and pretty face (including Tara herself). But the more time Hale spends with her, the more he discovers what a remarkable woman Tara really is.

And there comes the twist in this fake-relationship romance. Because now what Tara and Hale are feeling for one another is very real, but she’s in a high-profile (albeit fake) relationship with one of Hale’s players.

Tara was an interesting character with a lot of issues stemming from her childhood. I liked how patient Hale was with her, and it lead to some really sweet and tender moments between them. She kept pushing Hale away over and over again, but eventually she came to realize that he was exactly what she needed.

This book is part of a series, but I was able to jump in pretty easily even though I hadn’t read any of the other books.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

 Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Wow, this book blew me away. Help Me Remember is different from the other books I’ve read by Corinne Michaels. It still has all the same feel-good vibes, but there is so much more depth to Brielle’s story. Sure, she struggles to regain her memories after a horrific accident that left her brother dead. But this book is also full of forgiveness, family, love, friendship, about having a safe place to land, and feeling at peace.

Her loved ones are faced with an impossible task after Brie wakes up: don’t give her any info. At all. As she pieces together who she is, who she loves, and the day of the attack, Brie’s life is flipped upside down over and over again. This journey was a wonderful one, not just for Brie, and I cried so much when reading her guy’s chapters.

All the feels. Swoony moments. Sweet moments. Cameos from other books. What more can you ask for?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Defiant Heart by Brighton Walsh

 Release Date: June 14

I’ve slapped my cuffs on Luna Lancaster too many times to count, and not a single one was for fun.
As the sheriff of Starlight Cove, I shouldn’t crave her but I do. She’s chaos, mayhem, and sunshine wrapped up in too-tight yoga pants. The lawbreaker might have the town enamored with her free spirit, but she’s a thorn in my side, even if she is the sexiest woman I’ve ever seen.
I want her out of my town and out of my head.
Trouble is, she’s made it perfectly clear she isn’t going anywhere. And her spree of minor infractions—who runs a yoga class without a license?—is hitting dangerously close to home. Her latest protest has her chained to a tree on the boundary of my family’s resort. The last thing we need is bad press ruining the short tourism season when the resort is already one bad month away from bankruptcy.
I’ll do whatever it takes to save Starlight Cove. Even if that means handcuffing Luna to my bed.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 stars

Defiant Heat is an entertaining start to a new series. It’s been a few years since I’ve read a Brighton Walsh book, and I really enjoyed getting reacquainted with her style in Luna and Brady’s grumpy/sunshine story.

Brady is a by-the-book smalltown sheriff. Luna is a free-spirited yoga instructor. There is nothing these two have in common aside from their intense dislike for each other, but sometimes that is what makes the best kind of opposites-attract story! These two just love to press each other’s buttons, and it is so hot. Defiant Heart is steamy and sexy, with the perfect balance of sweet and swoon.

Luna and Brady are definitely one couple I will be coming back to for a reread! I loved Starlight Cove, and can’t wait to see what books come next in this small town series! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Meet Brighton Walsh

USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brighton Walsh spent a decade as a professional photographer before taking her storytelling in a different direction and reconnecting with her first love—writing.

She likes her books how she likes her tea—steamy and satisfying—and adores strong-willed heroines and the protective heroes who fall head over heels for them.

Brighton lives in the Midwest with her real life hero of a husband, her two kids—one who’s already taller than her and one who’s catching up too fast—and her dog who thinks she’s a queen. Her boy-filled house is the setting for dirty socks galore, frequent dance parties (okay, so it’s mostly her, by herself, while her children look on in horror), and more laughter than she thought possible.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Royal Rebel by JJ Knight

Title: Royal Rebel
Author: JJ Knight
Genre: Standalone Romantic Comedy
Release Date: June 13, 2022

You’ve never made a mistake like mine.
It’s bad enough being a bloomin’ princess.
It’s not all cake and tiaras.
There’s rules. Expectations.
Your internet is censored. Your cell phones are tapped.
And your father is literally king.
Mine made a law that no man between the age of seven and thirty is allowed to work inside the palace.
Which means I’m surrounded by kitchen staff, female guards, and a dusty old tutor named Maurice.
Now I’m twenty-three with zero experience around men. I’ve never even texted one.
But on the castle lawn, there are dozens of hunky new guards working out below the tower. I spy on them every day.
I’ve chosen one.
Kind. Beautiful. Strong.
I sneak through the underground tunnels to surprise him in the rose garden and tell him how I feel.
Except when I finally confess my love through the trellis, and we walk to the end of the hedge to begin our forbidden romance…
I realize I’ve accidentally propositioned the biggest playboy in the palace.
__
Royal Rebel is a standalone romantic comedy about a princess who breaks all the rules, overzealous donkeys that interrupt make-out sessions, and a hunky guard who thinks he’ll never, ever, limit himself to one woman — until he does.

The Princess peers up at me. “Are you going to give me a movie screen kiss or not?”

Hell yes, I am.

If caution is a yellow flag, I fling it out of sight. I clasp the back of her head, threading my fingers through her hair. I pull her to me roughly until our bodies are flush together fully along their length.

I bend down and don’t wait for her to come to me. I pull her face to mine, delving instantly into her mouth. She opens in surprise as my tongue licks against hers. She’s warm honey and peppermint, yielding and soft.

After a moment, her body molds into mine. Her tongue comes for me, and her pulse flutters beneath my thumb at her throat. She lets out a sound and presses her pelvis against me.

With only a few inches between our heights, she lands where her body instinctively knows where to aim. I respond instantly, stiffening between us.

She pulls her face from mine, her eyes big as she looks up at me. “Is that…”

I want to grab her hips and grind into her. I’m fiercely in need. But I control myself. “It is.”

“What do I do with it?”

Oh, I could tell her.

She goes on. “Should I pretend it isn’t happening? It didn’t when I danced with that random guy. How often does it happen?”

I draw in a ragged breath. Her innocence is shocking, delectable. I want to break it wide open, right here, against a brick wall, pounding her until we both disintegrate into nothing.

Down, boy.

“You don’t have to talk about it. A guy knows it’s happening. It’s natural. Part of the process.”

“Already? Just from kissing? I thought we had to be naked. And ready to do that thing!”

“It can happen anytime.”

Her eyes go even wider. “Like at dinner? Or while driving a car?” She draws in a sharp breath. “Around your grandma?”

Okay, with that thought, I no longer have a problem. I let out a breath. “Probably not around a grandma. It’s a stage in the process. It’s not as obvious in women as men.”

“Is it happening to me?” She glances down at her jeans as if she might produce an erection or some other obvious sign. “Wait. Is that what they call a lady boner?”

I can’t stop myself from laughing. “Sort of. But not literally. You don’t have an outward sign.”

“What is my sign?”

Jesus. “A dampness. It’s called getting wet.”

“I’ve heard that phrase. They mean down there!”

“Yes.”

“It’s not pee, is it?”

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars
Royal Rebel is so much fun! I fell in love with feisty Octavia when I read Leo and Sunny’s story (Royal Pickle) and I loved returning to Avalonia and seeing her find her own prince charming!

In an act of rebellion, sheltered, naive Princess Octavia, aka Vi, sends a message to the leader of the guardsmen protecting her royal tower from down below. But when she arrives to meet fine, respectable Gregor in the rose garden, it’s guard-in-training Finley who is waiting for her instead. And Finley… well, he’s a bit of a royal playboy. And he’s also her childhood best friend, whom she once knew as Dory.

What results is a wonderful story as Vi and Finley rebuild their friendship and she discovers that while Gregor may check off all the boxes on paper, Finley is the guy she can’t stop thinking about. It’s a delicious slow burn as the rekindled friendship turns into something deeper, and Finley realizes that Vi has held his heart since they were little kids. But she is an heir to the throne and he is a mere guardsman — can they really have a HEA?

Even though Octavia is in her early 20s, she’s led such a sheltered life. I loved watching her try to spread her wings because she wanted so much more from life than living in that ivory tower. It was such fun to see Leo and Sunny with Octavia, and some of the Pickles make an appearance. Royal Rebel is quirky and fun, and a refreshing romantic comedy that will put you in a great mood!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: It Started With a Kiss by S.L. Scott

Release Date: June 10

It started with a kiss.

Admittedly, it was a moment of weakness on my part. But even the strong-willed have been known to fall for a hard body underneath a tailored suit and a five o’clock shadow coating a sharp jawline.

It didn’t matter that Jackson St. James was nothing but trouble. Trouble was just my type.

Been there.

Done him.

Not making that mistake again.

We were friends, a low-key affair we designed ourselves—over before we began. After all, together we made no sense.

Jackson is into sports. I prefer the arts.

He gulps beer. I sip champagne.

While I might not be described as humble, his arrogance is through the roof.

But when he asks if we can talk, my traitorous Louboutins come to a full stop. Although I’ve seen enough movies to know how these conversations go, maybe, just maybe, he’ll surprise me.

He has before . . .

We may have started with a kiss, but how will we end?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars
Set in SL Scott’s New York Stories series, It Started With a Kiss is Jackson and Marlow’s story, a super sweet friends-to-lovers romance with all the feels.

I have enjoyed getting to know both of these characters on their own in SC’s other books, so I was excited to get to know them even more in this book. And I loved what I read. A bit of a Park Avenue Princess, Marlow had given up on fairy tales after her father’s finances took a hit and life threw her a few curveballs. She had Jackson have had a friends-with-benefits relationship going on for a few months, so when she is evicted from her apartment, he offers his place. He’s been wanting more out of their arrangement for a while now, but will he be able to convince Marlow that he is the prince she’s been waiting for?

These two were absolutely adorable together, and I loved the progression of their story. It was heartwarming and just a simple love story. Of course there are some bumps along the way, but Jackson is super supportive of all that Marlow is going through and is just there for her. It’s as simple as that.

Jackson and Marlow’s path to HEA started with a kiss on New Year’s Eve that turned in to so much more.

About SO NOT MEANT TO BE:

From USA Today and Amazon Charts bestselling author Meghan Quinn, comes a fresh take on a romantic comedy classic, When Harry Met Sally. This steamy, laugh-out-loud, enemies to lovers romance is about an annoyingly handsome coworker and the woman who refuses to be charmed by him.

Am I friends with JP Cane?

Ha! That’s laughable.

Besides the fact that he’s adopted some far-fetched notion from the movie When Harry Met Sally that says men and women can’t be friends and work together, it’s safe to say we’re not friends. He’s annoyingly loud, obnoxiously handsome, and has made an art out of poking all my hot buttons . . . multiple times a day.

So you can imagine how disgruntled I am when I not only have to fly to San Francisco with him for work, but stay in the same penthouse. Yup, we’re sharing the same air, twenty-four-seven. We’re talking full-fledged working roommates.

The man doesn’t know what it means to wear a shirt, thrives off protein bars, and you guessed it, moans loud enough for people to believe he’s Meg Ryan in a restaurant.

Spoiler Alert: I WON’T be having what he’s having.

Tack on his continuous flirting and his polished good looks, and I’m caught staring down the barrel of a seductive temptation that makes it hard for me to sleep at night.

But guess who can control herself? This girl.

Because if there is one thing I know for certain, it’s that JP Cane and I are so not meant to be.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

“Kelsey hurt my man-feelings.” This wonderful forced proximity, enemies-to-lovers romcom is everything I have come to expect from Meghan Quinn and hit the sweet spot when it came to balancing laugh-out-loud moments with super sweet ones.

JP and Kelsey are the brother and sister of Huxley and Lottie from A Not So Meet Cute. JP is a bit of a playboy, and Kelsey is a plucky, unlucky-in-love heroine who wants nothing more than to be in a relationship. As co-workers, they butt heads constantly, and it is a disaster when they end up being each other’s blind dates through a matchmaking service. They should be a perfect match… and they are. It just takes a lot for them to get there.

I love how MQ built a solid friendship between Kelsey and JP while they were off on a business trip together in San Francisco. They were isolated together and had lots of time to get to know one another outside of the office. And as it turns out, JP was a pretty great non-boyfriend, much to Kelsey’s shock. But Kelsey is a romantic and JP doesn’t do relationships… or does he?

As he tried to woo her, she was resolute in not falling for his charms, and firmly friend-zoned him. That moment when he put it all out there… GAH! I listened to that part over and over again!

Ava Erickson and Aaron Shedlock totally nailed the portrayals of Kelsey and JP. This is the first book I’ve listened to in a duet narration and I loved that format!

Waiting for Kelsey and JP to get together in this slow-burn romance was just as exciting as waiting to find out what JP stands for! This is one book that I will definitely keep in my rotation of re-reads! And getting to catch up with previews MQ couples who made cameos as guests on Kelsey’s podcast was an Easter egg I loved!!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars
This charity anthology is full of bite-sized sexy contemporary romance novellas that will keep you captivated all summer long!

My favorite of the bunch that I read was Jericho by Kat Savage. He is one of the tattoo artists from the Men of Bird’s Eye series, but seeing how that series just ended, Jericho and Kate’s story will hopefully start a new series. Kate is on vacation with her friends — a vacation she didn’t really want to go on to begin with — when she meets Jericho, who is on the same island with his friends, who are all in a band. Having just come off of a breakup, Kate is aloof and standoffish, but Jericho is totally smitten with her. This strangers-in-paradise story left me wanting more, and I hope that we get a full-length book from them!

Series: Whitecap

Contemporary Romance; Small Town Romance; Enemies to Lovers; Single Dad; Office Romance

Rule number 1: Never fall for the enemy.
Rule number 2: Never get involved with a local.

Luna Copeland lives by those rules, which complicates things tremendously when her new boss turns out to be a former one-night stand. As if that isn’t bad enough, he’s also a world-class jerk. But she just can’t make herself stop thinking about their one night together.

When Nate Warren left Whitecap years ago, he was certain he wouldn’t come back. But when his daughter starts acting up and getting into trouble, the small coastal town proves to be the best place for her. With an unruly teen on his hands, the last thing he has time for is romance. Unfortunately, he can’t get his sassy assistant out of his head.

When ignoring their attraction fails, Nate decides he wants all in. He just has to convince Luna she wants the same.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Jessica Prince brings us back to Whitecap with My Perfect Enemy, a sexy small-town romance where a one-night-stand with a guy who ends up becoming her boss turns into the loving relationship that Luna never knew she wanted.

Nate and Luna were combustible the night they met at the dive bar she was working at, but when they met again several months later, they clashed like oil and water. His life was falling to pieces, and he was in the midst of relocating back to the hometown he’d left behind 20 years ago in order to give his troubled 14-year-old daughter, Evan, a solid home. Meanwhile, Luna watched her mom go through one horrible relationship after another, and never wanted to rely on a man the way her mom relied on boyfriends, so why was she feeling things she shouldn’t for her sexy boss?

As they spend more time together outside of the office, Luna begins to soften toward Nate and realizes that he’s not so bad after all. Another one-night-stand leads to a friends-with-benefits relationship, but when Nate changes the rules on her, Luna goes running scared. Can he convince her to give him a chance?

I really liked the development of this story, and how Evan played into it. I loved how the surly teenage girl blossomed into a beautiful young woman thanks to Luna’s influence, and how that changed her relationship with Nate for the better. My heart broke for the poor girl when the details about her mom can out, and I was so happy that she had Luna to lift her up.

This book was a sizzling read. Likable characters, easy to believe situations, and lots of sweet moments between Nate and Luna, Nate and Evan, and Luna and Evan. I really enjoyed getting to know the residents of Whitecap more, and can’t wait to see what’s next in this series.

Born and raised around Houston Texas, Jessica spent most of her life complaining about the heat, humidity, and all around pain in the ass weather. It was only as an adult that she quickly realized the cost of living in Houston made up for not being able to breathe when she stepped outside. That’s why God created central air, after all.

Jessica is the mother of a perfect little boy–she refuses to accept that he inherited her attitude and sarcastic nature no matter what her husband says.

In addition to being a wife and mom, she’s also a wino, a coffee addict, and an avid lover of all types of books–romances still being her all time favs. Her husband likes to claim that reading is her obsession but she just says it’s a passion…there’s a difference. Not that she’d expect a boy to understand.

Jessica has been writing since she was a little girl, but thankfully grew out of drawing her own pictures for her stories before ever publishing her first book. Because an artist she is not.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

LB Dunbar delivers another great addition to the Lakeside Cottage series with Loving at 40. I’d been really curious about Archer after getting bits and pieces about him in the previous two books, and the guy I met in this book was a force to be reckoned with!

Archer and Jenna definitely get off on the wrong foot when he finds the raven-haired beauty asleep in his bed and nicknames her “Locks” — as in Goldilocks. But their romance evolves nicely and I fell hard for this pair. Archer has a lot of baggage he’s carrying around due to his job and a mission gone wrong, and everything about his life is all that Jenna fears due to the way her late husband died. They try to fight their feelings for a long time, but it becomes too much for either of them to deny. Unfortunately, when Archer’s past catches up with them, it makes a huge impact on their future.

There is some groveling that Archer has to do to make things up to Jenna, but man, once he decided he was all in, he was all in! His tattoo! Gah! I also really loved how smitten Archer was with Jenna’s little girls, and how the three of them made him feel at home for the first time in a really long time.

Trigger warning: This book states that there is some gun violence and the presence of guns around children. I thought LB Dunbar handled that very well, and it blended nicely with the greater story and all that Jenna had gone through previously.

This book ended on a whopper of an epilogue teasing Anna’s story with Mason to come next. And I have been waiting for it since the very first book!!
