Sunny Shelly’s Review: Undeniable by Jenna Hartley

UNDENIABLE by Jenna Hartley is NOW LIVE!

Connor is my opposite in almost every way.

I’m a bookworm; he’s a bodyguard.

I have trouble speaking up for myself; he’s direct, brash even. But the more I get to know my new pen pal, the more I see beneath the former navy SEAL’s tough exterior.
He’s a hero, and he’s hurting. But he’s also so much more than he gives himself credit for.It doesn’t matter that we live on opposite sides of the country and have never laid eyes on each other. We talk every day, sometimes for hours.

Our attraction is undeniable, and our growing connection is becoming impossible to ignore. But when Connor asks to meet, I can’t help but worry that our chemistry won’t be enough.

That I won’t be enough.

Undeniable was previously published as a 40,000 word novella, Unwritten. It has since been expanded to and reimagined to a full-length novel of over 70,000 words, though the feel of the story remains the same.

SUNNY SHELLY’s REVIEW: 5 Stars

I cannot remember the last time I read a book in a single day, but that is exactly what I did with Undeniable. I was hooked on Conner and Olivia’s story right from the start, and I fell in love with them as they fell in love with one another through email exchanges and texting. And after weeks of communicating online, they finally meet in person — and the connection is every bit as intense.

This book was positively charming. Olivia and Conner both had parts of themselves that they didn’t care to share with others (his childhood, his fear of becoming his abusive father; she felt like people wanted to befriend her because of her celeb parents), but in each other, they found a safe and comfortable space to be authentically themselves.

But Conner’s life is in New York, and Olivia’s is in Los Angeles. She doesn’t want to get into a long-distance relationship, so when his week’s vacation comes to an end, will their relationship as well?
There was a plot twist that I didn’t see coming, and it sealed their fate.

Krista Sandor

Release Date: October 26

FREE IN KINDLE UNLIMITED

Hailey Higgins just got dumped at the altar—and she’s nearly broke. Her only saving grace is a remote cabin a long-lost relative left her in the tiny mountain town of Starrycard Creek. It should be the perfect place to shut out the world and shun love. Under no circumstances should she want anything to do with the ruggedly handsome Finnegan Starrycard.

Finn is a growly, self-proclaimed bachelor for life. He’s the local handyman. That’s what it says on his business card. And this handyman has deemed her cabin to be uninhabitable.

Out of options, she can’t say no when Finn offers her his spare bedroom while he makes the necessary repairs to her place. Two love-haters under one roof sounds ideal until a boozy night leads to an agreement. Roommates with benefits. All physical. No feelings. And heaven help her! This handyman works magic with his hands, his tongue, and his . . . well, you get it.

She cannot fall in love with Finnegan Starrycard—or the picturesque town, or his endearingly quirky family. Still, the longer she stays, the harder it is to ignore the chemistry between them.

In Starrycard Creek, the locals say love is always in the cards.

Hailey would like to think she’s done with love.

But thanks to one grumpy handyman, love might not be done with her yet.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Hailey and Finn’s totally awkward meet-cute was hilarious. The Business Card Boyfriend was a lighthearted, fun read featuring a jilted bride who has sworn off love, a grumpy handyman who has sworn off love, a gang of rogue raccoons, and a quirky small mountain town that is in love with love.

Hailey and Finn are both love-haters, but they are so perfect for each other. Their witty banter is refreshing, and the connection between them is sizzling hot. With the cabin she inherited a run-down mess, Hailey crashes at Finn’s house while he repairs hers. After one boozy night, they give in to the attraction growing between them, agreeing to a no-strings fling for however long she’s in town. But nothing is ever that simple and as feelings grow between them, will Hailey and Finn decide to take a chance on something real?

This story had heart and humor, and some big feels. While I’m not a fan of 3rd person storytelling, I will overlook that since we got the story from both Hailey and Finn’s POV!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: One Chance by Lena Hendrix

ONE CHANE by Lena Hendrix is AVAILABLE NOW!

Model: Peter Dockal

Photographer: Wander Aguiar

Blurb:

Fake dating my best friend? Total disaster.

With his cocky grin and devilish charm, firefighter Lee Sullivan makes every woman in our small town swoon. Every woman except for me.

Which is why I’m shocked when he steps in at the town’s Matchmaker’s Gala and outbids my crush during the charity auction, committing us to six prearranged dates.

Six dates where we, very publicly, pretend to be falling in love.

Despite my objections and our efforts to set each other up with other people, Lee is convinced pretending to date each other is the perfect opportunity to get the women in town off his back (and out of his bed), while also helping to nudge my non-committal crush in the jealousy department.

Stupidly, I agree.

After the disastrous blind dates he set me up on, what’s a few months of letting Lee worship the ground I walk on? He owes me.

Trouble is––every fake kiss, every lingering touch, every filthy word he whispers when no one is around––is starting to feel very, very real.

We know everything about each other––from my orphaned past to his irrational hatred of dolls. The only secret I have ever kept from Lee spans all the way back to his time in the Army and it’s the one thing that could ruin our friendship forever.

Because where Lee is concerned, I have learned to guard my heart. Suddenly, he’s asking for the opportunity to feel something real. He’s asking for the one thing he wouldn’t want if he ever knew the truth: one chance.

Lee and Annie’s story was perfect!

One Chance is a friends-t0-lovers story, but there is so much depth to Lee and Annie’s relationship due to their mutual connection with the late Margo, his ex-girlfriend and her foster sister. I adored the deep connection Lee and Annie had, how comfortable their relationship is, and how easily they became “more” while fake dating after the auction. Annie has always been in love with Lee, and it just hits him one day that he has strong feelings for her; I love when a playboy falls hard like that! That first kiss was a scorcher! And I loved how Lee always told Annie that spending time with her was “the best day ever.”

However, Annie has a secret that she’s been keeping from Lee, and it could change everything between them. And it does — but I loved how Lee doesn’t react the way she was expecting him to, but was upset for a different reason. Swoon.

These two characters were so wonderfully written, and I loved spending more time with the Sullivan family!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Naked Coffee Guy by Crissi Langwell

Release Date: October 20

He ruined my life. Now he’s ruining me for any other man.

I met Mac the night I lost my apartment. What felt like the worst night of my life turned into one of those insta-love romance stories I hate, and had me reconsidering my stance against relationships. But then I found out he was the agent who sold my home to a demolition company. That, and the fancy watch on his wrist proved we’re from different worlds. So I did the logical thing.

I disappeared.

Or so I thought. My new home has a closet-sized room, my coworker’s clutter, and a front-row view of Mac’s early morning strolls. Barefoot. Shirtless. Carrying just a cup of coffee while he wraps the whole neighborhood around his finger.

I’m trying my best to avoid Mac at all costs, but the man is persuasive. Very persuasive. And when he suggested a casual fling, I couldn’t help but agree.

But this feels nothing like casual, and I know I’m the one who’s about to get burned.
Naked Coffee Guy is Maren and Mac’s story, a steamy dual POV enemies to lovers romance with sizzling scenes and a fully-developed love story. This is the second book in the Sunset Bay series. All novels in the Sunset Bay series are complete standalones with HEAs and no cliffhangers, and take place in the same small coastal town.

Crissi Langwell is a new-to-me author and I’m so glad I took a chance on Naked Coffee Guy! I was expecting a steamy enemies-to-lovers romcom, but Mac and Maren’s story had so much depth to it!

These two characters had insane chemistry right from the start. They were different in so many ways, yet they had so much in common. I loved getting to know them through their respective backstories, and appreciated the present-day connections that CL wrote for Mac and Maren.

Both damaged characters, Mac and Maren are each carrying around a lot of baggage. He was so determined to make her see him as someone she could trust and rely on, despite the fact that he was the reason she was forced out of her apartment. Mac worked so hard to right the wrongs that he had been a part of, and in a weird twist of fate, if it weren’t for him, she would never have gotten to the place that she’s at by the end of the book. Earning Maren’s forgiveness meant everything to Mac, and the payoff was worth the 3rd act breakup!

I adored this story and these perfectly imperfect characters and look forward to reading more from Langwell!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Forgot to Say Goodbye by S.L. Scott

Noah Westcott should come with a warning: Too Hot to Handle!

The man is stunningly handsome with his embracing brown eyes and lips that make me want to kiss that smirk right off his face.

How could I resist?

Spoiler: I didn’t.

That was my first mistake.

I blame him for the second. It should have been easy and fun. No strings attached. No feelings. As if he commanded it like he did me in the bedroom, I did exactly what I said I wouldn’t. I fell for him.

Two years later, the same man walks into my life. Again. A lot has changed. Not his devastating good looks, or that smug grin, but for me everything.

Now that Noah’s back—in my office and hanging around after hours—I can’t get distracted. I must protect my secret—the one who calls me Mommy.

After meeting Noah Wescott in his brothers’ books, I was so glad to get to know the youngest brother better. And Noah and Liv’s story did not disappoint!

Noah and Liv met two years ago and shared a steamy one-night stand in the Hamptons. They never exchanged last names, and she was gone before he woke up the following morning. Needless to say, they are both shocked when Noah arrives for his first day at work… and Liv is the accountant at the marketing firm! Noah is shocked because he has never been able to get Liv off his mind, and she’s shocked to see the father of her baby again!

At first, Olivia doesn’t want to give Noah the time of day because his presence threatens to destroy her life and she’s super protective of her son, Maxwell. But watching Liv give in to Noah and how these two fell in love was wonderful. Noah was a natural as a dad, and I adored his interactions with baby Max. In the Wescott family, Liv found the love and support she never got from her own father (her mother, however, was a great support).

There is no 3rd act breakup in Forgot to Say Goodbye, which I appreciated; Noah was just *there* in support of Liv from the start. It’s a sexy and swoony story that will leave you with a smile!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Shadows of You by Catherine Cowles

💜SHADOWS OF YOU IS LIVE💜

Get ready to fall for Roan and Aspen in their grumpy-sunshine, single mom, small town romance, from USA Today Bestselling Author, Catherine Cowles!

It was supposed to be a fresh start. A small town where I could hide my little girl from the shadows that haunt us. A place where I could keep us safe.

The last thing I expected was him.

A surly, broody mountain of a man who helps me save an injured deer in a snowstorm.

Now, Roan Hartley keeps showing up with his glowers and grimaces. But they only make his rare smiles and the gentle way he talks to my daughter mean that much more.

When forces from my past find us, Roan is determined to keep us safe—even if that means sleeping on my ancient couch every night.

As days turn to weeks, his touch has my walls crashing down. But someone out there doesn’t want me to find happiness. He doesn’t want me left breathing at all…

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Oh my heart! I am a sucker for a broody, broken, loner or a hero, and I knew as soon as Roan was introduced in Whispers of You that I would love him. And I did! Roan and Aspen’s story is so beautiful, and I adored seeing how protective he was of her and little Cady!

Once again, Catherine Cowles crafted a wonderful story that is full of heart and heart, with a gripping suspense. Aspen has lived a quiet life, raising her daughter and keeping to herself, not wanting the truth about their past to come to light. Roan lives an even quieter life, having turned almost reclusive after his brother’s girlfriend was attacked years ago and he was briefly a suspect. They collide in a beautiful way, and they bring so much to each other’s lives.

Maxine Mitchell and Zachary Webber did a phenomenal job in narrating this story. I don’t know how he did it, but Zachary sounded so broken and defeated during certain crucial moments, and it made me love Roan even more!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: The Problem With Dating by Brittainy C. Cherry

The Problem with Dating by Brittainy Cherry is now live!

If I had to choose a person to hate, Alex Ramírez would’ve been first on the list…

Welcome to Honey Creek, Illinois, where life was as sweet as the town’s name suggested. That was, until Mr. Fine Dining himself, Alex Ramírez, rolled into town with a permanent scowl and decided to park his snooty five-star restaurant across from my cozy dog daycare. He was tall, dark, and about as warm as a frozen entrée.

After one too many unpleasant interactions, I was determined to stay out of his way and to keep him out of mine.

But fate had a quirky sense of humor. When Alex inherited his great-aunt’s cranky canine, he had no choice but to come to me, the local dog whisperer, for help. As for me? I needed a fake boyfriend to ward off my ex-husband, who was determined to win me back.

So, we struck a deal: I’d turn his dog into the town’s best-behaved pet, and in return, he’d be my arm candy for a few family events and social gatherings. Simple, uncomplicated, and absolutely not romantic—at least, that was what we told ourselves.

As we played house, I couldn’t help but notice that underneath Alex’s prickly shell was a dash of charm that wasn’t listed in the ingredients. Our pretend dates started to feel a little too real. And our feigned kisses? They were getting laughably close to crossing the line. Suddenly our interactions felt less like a food fight and more like foreplay.

With every playful touch and lingering glance, I couldn’t help but wonder: Was this fake relationship with Alex secretly penning its own authentic ending? Or was I risking it all for something that was nothing more than make-believe?

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

The Problem With Dating is one of those feel-good romcoms that you can just envision as a made-for-TV movie. It’s a pretty perfect story about a quirky pet shop owner, the small town’s darling, and the fish-out-of-water, city-slicker grumpy chef whom the townsfolk are trying to run out of town. Add in some ex-drama on both sides and a fake relationship and this book checks off all the boxes.

Alex and Yara were absolutely adorable together. Goldie (aka Golden Retriever) and Mr. Black Cat complemented each other perfectly. They most definitely got off on the wrong foot, as every great enemies-to-lovers story does, but as Yara got to know the sweet guy underneath the hardened facade, Alex bloomed as she brought sunshine back into his lonely existence and jump-started his heart.

The Problem With Dating was a breath of fresh air! And very unlike the angsty, emotional stories I’ve come to love from Brittainy C. Cherry. But just because it’s not angsty does not mean it isn’t emotional! And I loved every minute of it.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Obsession Falls by Claire Kingsley

Obsession Falls by Claire Kingsley is NOW LIVE!

He’ll risk it all to protect her.

Someone is stalking Audrey Young. And she has no idea why.

It’s bad enough that she’s back in Tilikum. But Audrey’s good at making the best of things and her new job at the small-town newspaper is just a way to get back on her feet.

Complicating matters is her landlord and new neighbor, Josiah Haven.

She doesn’t usually go for the big, surly lumberjack type. But there’s something about that broody man. He intimidates her a little, but she kind of likes it.

She could totally handle the mess that is her life, except the strange feeling of being watched is just the beginning. Next thing Audrey knows, she’s a target, and she doesn’t know who’s behind it, or why.

For Josiah Haven, none of that makes her his problem.

She’s just the girl next door. Fine, the frustratingly hot girl next door. But Audrey is all sunshine and her goofy dog isn’t any better. Josiah is too stoic. Too solitary. Too guarded. He doesn’t need a woman in his life, especially one who threatens to crack his heart wide open.

But Josiah is a protector and he can’t let Audrey’s troubles go unanswered, even if he has to risk everything—his life and his heart—to keep her safe.

Author’s Note: a grumpy loner meets his match in a sunshiney dog lover who’s a little down on her luck. And once he falls, he falls HARD. It’s small-town romantic suspense with CK’s signature humor, endearing characters, and heartwarming happily ever after.

Obsession Falls can be read as a stand-alone.

Ah, it was so good to be back in Tilikum! And it was so nice to get to know you, Josiah Haven!

Obsession Falls is the first book in the new Haven Brothers series by Claire Kingsley, which is a spinoff of the Bailey Brother series, and takes place about 6 years after Annika Haven and Levi Bailey brought the two feuding families together. I absolutely fell in love with Josiah from the prologue. My heart broke for him! Between his dating history and his bio mom abandoning him, it’s no wonder that Josiah had sworn off love. But when Audrey moves into the rental property next door to the house he’s renovating, he’s immediately drawn to her. And when it comes to light that someone is stalking Audrey, this grumpy lumberjack goes all alpha male in protecting her.

I adored the relationship between Josiah and Audrey. Such a nice friendship forms between them at first, as they both deny the growing feelings between them. She’s recently moved back to the area and only plans to be in Tilikum temporarily, and he has sworn off relationships. Yet somehow, they turned out to be exactly what the other needed. Josiah and Audrey’s first kiss may have knocked Chase and Brynn (Forbidden Miles) off my favorite first-kiss list!

In the midst of all the swoony and sweet romance, Claire Kingsley weaves in the captivating suspense of Audrey’s stalker. There are some twists and turns as to the stalker’s identity, and the whole heroine-in-danger really brings out the protective side of Josiah. For a guy who isn’t very good with showing his emotions, Josiah really turns out to be quite the ideal boyfriend!

As a fan of the Bailey Brothers series, I loved the cameos by the Baileys, especially the scene toward the end when Josiah goes to Asher’s house for some advice. And the Tilikum squirrels are back in action! Can we give an honorable mention to Aunt Louise? She reminded me of Betty White’s character in Hot In Cleveland, and I can’t wait to see more of her meddling!

Obsession Falls was a wonderful start to a new series, and I can’t wait to meet the rest of the Haven brothers! Connor Crais and Ava Erickson did a marvelous job bringing Josiah and Audrey to life. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Carlie Jean is a new-to-me author and I am so glad I took the chance to read Promise Me! Aurora and Cameron’s friends-to-lovers story was swoony and sweet and I loved every minute of it!

Aurora and Cameron are both college seniors. He’s a bit of a nerd, she’s a star on the volleyball team with aspirations to go to the Olympics. But she got too focused on her training and she’s at risk of failing a class. Her dad, the dean of the college, assigns her to the college’s tutoring program, which is where she meets Cameron. Sweet, giant, cinnamon roll Cameron. He’s a bit of a jerk to her at their first session, mainly because he’s wildly attracted to her — he’d been cheated on by his high school girlfriend, also an athlete, and assumes that Aurora is entitled as the dean’s daughter.

A sweet friendship forms between these two over their tutoring sessions. There’s a definite attraction between them as well, but they are both laser-focused on their career plans and don’t want to get sidetracked with a relationship. But Cam and Aurora can only resist each other for so long, and when they finally, finally share their first kiss… that slow burn was worth the wait!

I loved how protective Cam was, not only of Aurora but also of his mom and sister. He’s a beast of a guy, but such a softie underneath that burly, muscular exterior. And even though he’s a virgin, he really knew how to take charge! Those scenes were steamy!

Overall, this book was a wonderful read. Low-angst, no outside drama, and just good old-fashioned romance!

I read an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Johnny Bishop crashed into my life like a hurricane. Not once, but twice.

The first time, we were teenagers. He was the star quarterback destined to save our small town’s high school team. I was the music nerd desperate to shine, but always falling short.

Until him.

Johnny was good at football, but he was great at music.  And when I realized we shared a love of performing, I fell for his charm. I drank in his words and was hypnotized by the way he sang. I was never fully in the spotlight with him, but the way he held onto me and kept me close felt good enough. His star was bright enough for both of us, and his dreams were worth all the risks, even if they were my dreams first.

But when he left our town–leaving me in it–the damage in his wake was devastating.  I spent a decade trying to piece together my broken heart. A decade trying to avoid his music, a nearly impossible feat considering he was selling out arenas and piling up Grammys. While he tore through city after city, I built a quiet life as a music teacher in my hometown.

I’d made peace with the fact that a now-famous rockstar once held my hand and told me he loved me. But when he shows up unannounced, begging for help, I’m sucked right back into his gravitational pull.

I want to hate him. I want to punish him for turning his back on me. But I can’t when he’s so broken. And the more time we spend in our present talking about our past, the more I start to wonder if maybe Johnny left to save us all from the storm.

Maybe that story about me and the famous rockstar has a lot more story to be told.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

The Moon and Back is a messy, glorious, raw, vulnerable, second-chance rockstar romance. Johnny and Brynn’s story was a heartbreaking one, but out of the ashes of their torched relationship comes something beautiful.

The story begins when Johnny and Brynn are seniors in high school. He’s a new-to-town football star and she’s in the marching band. While they are on opposite ends of the high school social strata, Brynn and Johnny are kindred souls and have an immediate connection. He does not have the best home life, and Brynn quickly becomes his safe place. As she introduces him to her love of music, their friendship blooms into a hot and heavy teenage romance — but then one day, Johnny essentially disappears, leaving Brynn heartbroken, confused and angry.

Ten years later, Brynn is the music teacher at their old high school and Johnny is a music superstar. While he should be on top of the world, Johnny has been battling his inner demons for a long time and has nowhere else to turn but than to ask his high school sweetheart for help. Brynn never got over the way Johnny ghosted her, however, and isn’t too quick to forgive him. Will these two be able to get past their past?

The story unfolds through past and present chapters, and I loved getting the background and history between these two characters. It’s told from Brynn’s POV, and I really would have loved to have gotten Johnny’s perspective. This story is full of so much angst, but the payoff is well worth the wait!
