“See ya, Katie.” He flashes me his grin right when the metal slams. The loud scream from his exhaust wakens his ride while I step back further. Giving him a small wave, I’m about ready to walk away when all of a sudden, I bump into someone.
“Oh, sorry,” I mumble then look up to see Claire smiling at me.
“That’s so nice. Motherfucker is actually dropping you off even though you own a beamer.” Her eyes move to his Blazer at the sound of Caleb’s exhaust blaring out of the parking lot.
“He stayed over last night.” Watching him as he takes off down the road, I feel Claire’s eyes burning a hole through the side of my head. My lip curls up, and I can’t help but tip my head at her.
“Shut the fuck up!” Claire squeals, clapping her hands, banging her chunky silver bracelets together. “He popped your cherry!”
“Claire!” Shooting my arm out, I yank down her wrist. “Shh…” Pressing my finger up to my lips, I quickly scan over my shoulders to make sure that no one around heard anything Claire said.
“What?” She waves her head to the side to brush back her hair. “Holy fuck, tell me about it!” Opening the doors, I keep my chin low but smile brightly while we walk in sync to my locker.
“I don’t know.” I shrug. “He came over last night.”
“Apparently came is the right word.” She laughs.
“Claire.” I snap my head at her but can’t help but laugh, too.
Rolling my eyes, I start working on the combination to my locker, Claire props her elbow up on the locker beside me.
“So, for real, how was it?” she leans in toward me and whispers. Not looking at her while I put my bag in, I’m able to breathe out, “Unreal…”

MEET THE AUTHOR:
Natalie Barnes was born in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan on a rainy, September Thursday. She grew up on the Bay Mills Indian Reservation in Michigan’s eastern upper peninsula.

Married with children, she started writing as a way to have downtime for herself. Never planning on publishing until her first piece was finished. That’s when it all changed.
Not even four months after publishing, “Everything I Want,” she left her full time job as Accounts Payable and took the dive into continuing her desire for storytelling.
When she isn’t losing it with her characters, she’s jamming out or combing the backroads of the Upper Peninsula countryside. Blueberry picking to two-tracking and gathering; anything that has to do with the outdoors, she’s into.
Natalie also has an eye for indie films. Connecting with a screenwriter a couple years ago, there’s now a screenplay based on her first novel out there. She’ll continue to see where that goes and in the meantime, plans on having screenplays written for all her tales.

Kandi Steiner is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from the University of Central Florida living in Tampa. Kandi works full time as a social media specialist, but also works part time as a Zumba fitness instructor and blackjack dealer.

Kandi started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic (like most girls brought up on Disney movies).

As soon as my aunt and uncle turned the corner, Brody
whispered in my ear. “Lucky for you, fun is my specialty.”
I turned to him, smiling despite myself. “Oh yeah?” Clearly,
Brody wasn’t the type of guy that needed to be encouraged. Yet, for some
reason, I couldn’t seem to help myself. I blamed the wine and fresh ocean air
for making me act as crazy as the drummer.
He nodded, his sexy smirk firmly in place. “You wanna see?”
I should have said no. But, then again, maybe Aunt Lo was
right; some fun would do me good. Plus, Brody wasn’t hard on the eyes, not by a
long shot. “Yes.” Before I knew what was happening, he picked me up, threw me
over his shoulder and headed down the long cement and cinder-block hallway.
“What are you doing?” I screeched. “People will see us.”
“All anyone can see right now is your perfect little ass.”
He slapped it lightly.
I never did things like this—ever. The last guy I dated was
a heart surgeon, with an ego the size of Texas, and little to no sense of
humor. He’d asked me out on a date, and it’d taken him four more to get in my
pants. And then he’d cheated on me…so really, I should be happy Brody seemed
like Dr. Douche’s polar opposite. “Where are you taking me, caveman?”
“To have fun, of course.” He turned a corner to the left,
this hallway much darker than the last. Another turn to the right, and suddenly
it was pitch black. He placed me on my feet, and I held onto his arms while the
blood rushed back into my head.
“Are we in a janitor’s closet?” The room smelled vaguely of
chemicals.
“I think so.” He was close, standing right in front of me.
The way he placed his hands on my hips was like we knew each other. Like we had
been seeing each other.
“And this is fun?” I was biting my lip. Standing in a closet
with a complete stranger wasn’t a normal Landry Cole move. It was more of an
old-school Jacks Cole move, if we were naming names.
“Are you excited and slightly terrified?” He was closer now,
his words whispered against my lips.
“Yes.”
He put a hand in my hair, his fingers rubbing my scalp.
“Then we are well on our way to real fun, baby cakes.” And then he kissed me.
I had butterflies in my stomach and goosebumps on my skin.
He tasted like the sea air and coconuts; like summer. I ran my hands up his
arms, more than a little surprised at myself. I didn’t know why I wasn’t
pushing him away. Why I wasn’t demanding to be let out. Who was this
woman he’d made me become?
“God, you taste good.” He bent me backward, kissing me
deeper. When he stood up, I climbed him like a damn tree then wrapped my legs
around his waist.
Call me crazy, but I wanted him. I wanted this wild man to
fuck me in a supply closet. I wanted it bad.
He walked forward, pushing my back against another
cinder-block wall. I freed my hands from his messy blond hair, fumbling with
his button and zipper trying to get his pants off. If I was going mental I
might as well go all the way, right?
Tomorrow I would go back to being a responsible
surgeon.
Tomorrow everything would go back to boring. But tonight—tonight I
wanted fun.

He Loves Me… KNOT is the second RC Boldt book I’ve read, the first being Blue Balls. While Knot isn’t the laugh-out-loud romcom that BB is, I think I actually may have loved it even more. And I liked BB a lot!

Knot had me eagerly clicking through page after page, wondering what the heck had happened that split up Emma Jane and Knox to begin with. They both clearly still loved each other, but hated each other at the same time. What happened on their wedding day that left them both so utterly heartbroken, feeling they were the victim, and blaming the other?

By sprinkling in scenes from EJ and Knox’s past, Boldt created a wonderful tale of yearning, loss, heartbreak and soulmates. The tension between EJ and Knox jumps off the page just as much as the yearning and desire that still so strongly runs between them. It takes a good, long time before they actually confront what happened the day they planned to marry, which only had me anticipating the moment more. The reason why EJ left Knox at the altar turned out to be a bit lame, in my opinion, BUT it doesn’t involve cheating, which scored big points in my book. Otherwise, I don’t think I would have still been as invested in these two working out their issues and getting back together.

Overall, He Loves Me…Knot was an engaging, fun, all-the-feels read. I loved EJ and Knox’s friends, the use of history, and is full of charm that equals Southern gentleman Knox Montgomery. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

“What are you doing today?” my friend Ainsley asked through the cell phone that was pressed to my ear with my shoulder. My hands were busy holding open a piece of the blinds so I could look out the front window.

           I gave her a distracted answer. “You know, the usual. Edits and whatnot.” I tilted my head to the side to get a better view out the window and almost dropped the phone. Holy hotness.

           “Why do you sound like that?”

           “Like what?”

           “Distracted.” Ainsley sucked in a breath. “Oh my God. It’s nine a.m. Are you neighbor stalking again?”

           I snapped the blinds closed and backed away from the window. “No. Of course not. Why would I do that?”

           “You told me you weren’t going to do that anymore.”

I thought we’d already established I was a liar.

           I stepped back toward the window because I couldn’t help myself, obviously a glutton for freaking punishment. But this was the only time of day I saw him besides when he left in his big, black truck at three in the afternoon on the dot, and I didn’t want to miss a thing. I cradled the phone with my shoulder again, pushed the blinds apart with my hands, and pressed my face to the windowpane like the creepy stalker I was. And there he was. Every gorgeous inch of him.

           He walked toward my building from across the busy downtown street like a tall glass of water on a hot day. All swagger and supreme male beauty. The kind of beauty that made a girl’s breath catch and heart pitter-patter. He pushed his dark hair off his tan forehead and the big muscles in his arms bunched.

Goosebumps broke out on my skin and I may have whispered, “Christ on a cracker.” I didn’t know his name, but I knew his schedule like the back of my hand. That wasn’t weird at all.

           “You’re a terrible liar.” She giggled. “What’s he wearing today?”

I barely heard Ainsley. Every morning when I watched this man walk down the street and toward our building, it was like just he and I existed. Slow motion. Our own sexy theme music. Nameless, ridiculously hot man and Miranda. He didn’t know it, but there was a world of our own and it was the absolute best part of my day.

           “Sunglasses. White, tight, sleeveless T-shirt. Black running pants with three white stripes down the sides. Black tennis shoes,” I said breathlessly into the phone. I left out all the good bits. Like the scowl he was wearing. It was perpetual. I’d never seen the man smile in the month he’d been living next door to me and for some reason that made me all the hotter for him. He owned that scowl. He freaking rocked it. His jaw was square and clean-shaven. His mouth flat. He was a giant of a man. Well over six feet. His chest was wide, his arms thick and imposing. Dog tags jangled from a silver necklace around his neck, letting me know he was military of some sort. I’d never seen his eyes, but I knew they were going to be stunning. Everything about him was. Not even the slight limp in his gait as he made his way across the street took away from his godlike beauty. I could’ve eaten him with a spoon.

Gah! This book! What a wonderfully beautiful emotional ride! In A Steel Heart, Amie Knight perfectly crafts a story that had me laughing out loud one minute, and holding back sobs the next.

Miranda is such a sassy, strong heroine — and Holden is the perfectly growly, insecure, damaged, battered, hardened wounded war veteran. He may be hot as sin, but he is just such a grumpy jerk in the first few chapters (told in Miranda’s POV) that by the time I got to Holden’s first chapter, my heart broke up for him.

Their friendship doesn’t get off to an easy beginning, but little by little, Miranda chips away at the fortress Holden has built around himself. And once he opens up to her, their love is of the truly, madly, deeply sort. Still, Holden remains his own worst enemy, and The Conflict that causes them to split left me crying into my pillow.

But just like in The Line, Knight writes a swoony-worthy reunion scene — and the HEA that Mae and Holden have in the epilogue? Perfection.

True Abandon is one of those books that had me racing back to the couch on a Saturday in between my parenting/adulating to find out what happens next. Although, I wasn’t quite sure how I was going to like Jackson as a romantic hero in light of the whole teenage sex tape thing. But Colette delivers a wonderfully emotional second chance romance full of heart and soul and forgiveness and redemption.

I love how the book is split into Part 1 in NYC during the hurricane, and Part 2 in Hawaii, where Jackson is bound and determined to win Tricia back. Colette does an amazing job of not only describing in vivid detail how ruined Tricia’s life was by the tape, but how destroyed Jax was as a result of his bad decision as well. The guilt he carried for having hurt the most important person in his life was indeed a major albatross, and together, Jackson and Tricia piece each other back together, get over the hurt of their past, forgive themselves and one another and find a beautiful ending.

Apparently, True Abandon is a book in the author’s Abandon series — I never would have known that, however, as it reads like a true standalone. I never felt like there were plot holes i was missing for not having read the previous books in the series. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood.
