Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars
I was so happy that Wheeler — Mollie’s business partner in Bellamy Boots — got to be the heroine in a story, and I loved her romance with Duke.
Duke is the most unsettled of the Rivers brothers; he has a sense of wanderlust and an itching to leave the ranch that the other boys do not have. He definitely meets his match in Wheeler. There’s an instant connection between them, and after several months of flirting back and forth, Duke finally gets his chance for some one-on-one time with her when he accompanies Wheeler to Aspen for a trunk show. They get snowed in together when a blizzard hits during their road trip, and several weeks later, Wheeler learns she’s pregnant.
I adored the connection between these two. Duke was looking for something “more” — something that would fulfill him in a way nothing else has. Wheeler, meanwhile, is riddled with insecurities that stem from drama with her family, and in Duke and the rest of the Rivers gang, she finds that she fits in in a way that she never has with her own. The banter between these two was fire, and the chemistry jumped off the page. Duke breaks through all of Wheeler’s walls, and it’s a beautiful journey for them both as they ultimately find fulfillment in the family they create.
So far, Duke is my favorite Rivers brother!
