Blurb
I’ve avoided
my hometown for twenty-seven years for one reason.
Aaron
Gritt.
Now that
I’m back in Springs Falls, I’ll do my best not to run into him.
But if I
do, let’s hope he isn’t as hot as he was at eighteen.
But the
universe is funny that way.
My life is
proof of it—secrets and all.
So I’m not
surprised when he stands before me in my class as the parent of one of my
students. Forgiving him to have walked away had always been hard, but not
harder than to finally tell him the truth.

Can you
forget your first love?
I never
did.
Even if I
didn’t recognize her right away, the girl with a star-shaped birthmark was
always somewhere on my mind.
But she
isn’t the competitive and driven seventeen-year-old captain of the girls’
hockey team I loved anymore.
I don’t
know what happened, but she has lost her fire and never made it into the pros
like she dreamt of.
And then I know. And it’s my turn to decide if I can forgive her.
A second-chance, small town romance novel you won’t be able to put down.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Heartbroken is wonderful second-chance romance that takes place thirty years after Aaron and Alane first started dating. She’s the local preacher’s daughter, he’s the son of the town hippies. Her parents pretty much hated anything that would place Al’s virtue in question or distract her from her hockey training. But Al and Aaron fell in love at the ice rink, and had no doubt that they were part of each other’s souls.

The book goes back and forth between Then and Now chapters, with each character’s POV. It’s a great tool to see how their relationship built up, fell apart thanks to her father’s meddling, how they each tried (and failed) to move on and then, despite her vow to never return to her hometown, reconnected.

Since these characters are in their mid/late 40s, I thought the way that Gabrielle G handled the big secret was done well. There was a lot of hurt on both sides, and Alane had every reason to think that she had been left behind and didn’t want to have Aaron return to her out of obligation. Sure, he’s hurt by Alane’s secret, but Adam is a very strong-willed and loyal guy, and makes Aaron see that there’s nothing he wouldn’t do for his mother. And in a way, it made Aaron realize that he feels the same.

I didn’t realize that Luke and Dex have a book of their own, and I am so very interested in reading that one now! Salome and Chris are supposed to have a book too… interesting, considering his past with her brother. In any event, the Gritt Family series is one that I’ll be looking out for in the future!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Author Bio
Gabrielle G
will do anything for a hot cup of tea, still celebrates her half birthdays and
feels everyone has an inner temptuous voice.
Born in France and having lived in Switzerland, Gabrielle currently resides in
Montreal with her husband, three devilish children and an extremely moody cat.

After spending years contemplating a career in writing, she finally jumped off
the deep end and took the plunge into the literary world. Writing consumed her
and she independently published her work.

Gabrielle’s style is fiercely raw and driven by pure emotion. Her love stories
leave you out of breath, yearning for more, while at the same time wiping away
tears.
