Sunny Shelly’s Review: #1 Rival by T. Gephart

#1 Rival, an all new standalone friends to lovers, Romantic Comedy by T. Gephart is NOW LIVE!

Synopsis

Lauren Harper wanted four things.

Respect.

Success.

Happiness.

And to annihilate Roman Pierce.

Sure, he was a smooth, smart and sexy attorney who made the senior partners at their law firm cream their pants. But he was also an annoying cocky jerk who she’d been competing with since they had both been hired over a year ago.

And Lauren didn’t care how amazing his smile was or how hot his body was underneath that suit—the firm-sponsored fun run had a lot to answer for—he was a ruthless, ambitious prick who would stop at nothing to climb the corporate ladder. He’d even climb over her given half the chance. Sadly, she’d probably enjoy that.

No.

That wasn’t what she was supposed to be thinking.

She did not want him climbing over or under her, or doing anything else to her.

He was the enemy. Destroying him was the only option.

Wiping that smug, beautiful grin off his gorgeous, obnoxious face, a bonus.

Now, if she could just keep her objective in check and obliterate him before he did the same to her.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Like the rest of the books in the #1 series, #1 Rival is full of witty banter, a strong heroine and a hot alpha hero. Sometimes, the enemies-to-lovers trope feels repetitive, but Lauren and Roman’s rivalry was more of an intense competition to be the very best, and not a distaste for one another. When they are assigned to work on a case together, things escalate to a whole new level, and that’s where the beauty of Gephart’s storytelling comes into play.

#1 Rival is as equally fun as it is intense, but that’s what made it all the more intriguing to me. I adored Lauren as a heroine, and I couldn’t decide at times whether I wanted to slap Roman or cheer them on as a couple!

This book can be read as a standalone, but it is part of a bigger series, and I was thrilled to see crossover from those other characters into Lauren and Roman’s story. I hope that there are more books in this #1 series to come! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

About T. Gephart

T Gephart is an indie author from Melbourne, Australia.

T’s approach to life has been somewhat unconventional. Rather than going to University, she jumped on a plane to Los Angeles, USA in search of adventure. While this first trip left her somewhat underwhelmed and largely depleted of funds it fueled her appetite for travel and life experience.

With a rather eclectic resume, which reads more like the fiction she writes than an actual employment history, T struggled to find her niche in the world.

While on a subsequent trip the United States in 1999, T met and married her husband. Their whirlwind courtship and interesting impromptu convenience store wedding set the tone for their life together, which is anything but ordinary. They have lived in Louisiana, Guam and Australia and have travelled extensively throughout the US. T has two beautiful young children and one four legged child, Woodley the wonder dog.

An avid reader, T became increasingly frustrated by the lack of strong female characters in the books she was reading. She wanted to read about a woman she could identify with, someone strong, independent and confident who didn’t lack femininity. Out of this need, she decided to pen her first book, A Twist of Fate. She enjoyed the process so much that when it was over she couldn’t let it go.

T loves to travel, laugh and surround herself with colourful characters. This inevitably spills into her writing and makes for an interesting journey – she is well and truly enjoying the ride!

Based on her life experiences, T has plenty of material for her books and has a wealth of ideas to keep you all enthralled.

Tori…
For the record, I’m
not going to hook up with my boss.
I’m a lot of
things—a screwup, a basket case, a flunky. But when I take a nanny job to be
near my pregnant sister, I swear to myself I’ll walk the straight and narrow,
which means I cannot fall for my insanely hot boss.
I don’t want to be

the way he snuggles his kids at bedtime. Ethan Carter won’t get the key to my
heart, no matter how much I want him.
Ethan…
Between us, she’s
the last thing I need as I finalize my hellish divorce.
What sane man trying
to rebuild his life wants a hot nanny with long, sexy hair, curves for miles,
and a smart mouth? A perfectly kissable, pouty mouth that I shouldn’t notice.
My focus is on my
kids and my ranch, not the insufferable siren who sleeps in the room next to
mine. It doesn’t matter that she wins over my kids in a heartbeat or runs my

want, no matter how much I crave her.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Fool Me Twice, by Lilliana Anderson

37484143

‘Some husbands bought their wives flowers, others bought jewellery. Mine? He returned the things he stole.’

I should have known better. Hot guys didn’t hit on big girls without an agenda. They didn’t approach them in bars and talk their way into your bed. They also didn’t make you feel beautiful and proud of your curves. But I was going through a dry spell—actually, I’d kind of been going through a dry spell all my life—and dry spells sucked. Of course I slept with him.

I was such a fool.

I believed his lines. Fell for his easy smile; the man swept me off my feet, rocked my world, then robbed me blind.

I really needed a three date rule.

Angry and embarrassed, I engaged the help of my best friend to track the thief down and make him return what he took. But when I found him, he wasn’t alone….

What does a girl do when she finds not one thief, but an entire family?

She marries into it, of course.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Fool Me Twice is definitely not your conventional love story! It’s even unlike anything I’ve previously read by Anderson, which says a lot for her writing style.

The concept of this story is a great one: Holland is drugged and robbed blind by handome Nate, who she takes home from a bar. She tracks him down, he apologizes and robs her again. When she tracks him down again, Holland and her pal Alesha meet Nate’s crazy family of thieves, and are forced to either marry into the clan, or be killed. It’s completely out-there, but it just worked! Nate is so loyal to Holland, and despite his illegal doings, he really goes above and beyond to protect what’s his. Namely, his wife.

The road gets a little rocky as tensions run high within the family and between Holland and her best friend, who kind of morphs into a younger version of matriarch Jasmine. But the story is intriguing and I couldn’t wait to see what happens next for this couple. This was a great start to a new series and I’m looking forward to Nate’s brothers getting their own books. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

Every now and then, you come across a book that just resonates with you so deeply that you just can’t escape the story. It consumes you because you relate to the tale so easily, and can even imagine yourself being in that very scenario. That is how I felt after completing Return To Us. It’s rare to find a romance novel centered on a married couple, and this story was so gut-wrenchingly beautiful. The message is simple, but so very complex at the same time.

I was hooked on Tinsely and Matt’s story from the prologue; although, I was expecting a very different tale to unfold regarding their marriage than what Pastore actually offered! With the first part set in the past, the reader sees the relationship between soap actress Tinsley and action star Matt develop from their first few meetings to taking the first steps in a romantic relationship. I felt their feelings start to develop, which is a huge draw for me. I hate being told; I want to see it happen. Over time, their long-distance relationship grow until we flash-forward a few years to them having marital issues. Is Matt cheating?

The second half of the story beautifully deals with how their marriage has broken down as a result of Tinsley’s miscarriage, and how much they are both hurting. But as much as they both still love one another, they just aren’t communicating. And that is such a realistic beat for Pastore to be playing. Sure, “Mattley” are A-list celebrities who have the paparazzi stalking their every move and the gossip magazines featuring a BS story on them every issue. And while we see some of how that affects their marriage, it’s their extremely private issue that has caused the strife in their relationship. Are they both willing to make the sacrifices necessary to save their marriage and “return to us”?

From start to finish, Return To Us was a phenomenal story that I will definitely re-read again. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Heart Stronger, by Rachel Blaufeld

SBPRBanner-heartstronger-BT

“So exquisitely titillating, full of hope and second chances, and so honest, this is Rachel Blaufeld’s best and swooniest romance yet! I LOVED it!”

– Katy Evans, New York Times Bestselling Author

Heart Stronger, an all-new emotional romance from Rachel Blaufeld is available now!

HeartStronger Full

“Sometimes, I feel like I’m watching a movie . . . that it’s not really me, Claire Richards, getting this second chance at life.”

“Open your eyes, it’s you, and I’m damn glad it’s with me.” ~ Aiken

Single mom and college professor Claire Richards only wanted a few hours of me time to soak in her tub, read a book, and drink wine.

But tragedy struck, and Claire found herself with a lot more me time than she bargained for.

Three years later, Claire is still mourning her losses when Aiken Fordham—who looks young enough to be one of her college students—moves in next door.

Forcing Claire to face her fears, Aiken almost forgets his reason for moving to Small Town, Pennsylvania. Falling for the sexy, smart, and strong professor next door was never in the plan.

But now it is . . . until their future intersects with their pasts.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Heart Stronger is an emotional story of a woman who has lost everything and the younger guy next door who shows her that it is okay to live and love again. Three years ago, Claire’s daughter died in a horrific explosion, and ever since, this college professor has been sleepwalking through life. The day that a young Adonis moves in next door to her, everything immediately changes for Claire. Starting with the zap of feelings that have long laid dormant in her heart.

This is labeled as an older woman/younger man story, but I didn’t think the 6-year age gap (Aiken is 30; Claire 36) was that big of a deal. Especially since Aiken comes across as so mature. Claire made so much more out of their age difference than there needed to be. Aiken is the perfect guy; he pushes Claire when she needs to get out of her comfort zone, and he knows when to give her space. But it’s even the small things he does for her that are just so romantic, like getting her favorite coffee and taking care of her dog. Blaufield does an amazing job of creating the push and pull Claire feels for Aiken. She’s so torn about wanting to start living her life again with him, but feeling horribly guilty because she is alive and her daughter is not.

Heart Stronger isn’t just a straight-forward romance though; there is a bit of a mystery woven into the story related to Aiken’s search for the mother who abandoned him when he was a toddler. Overall, the story is raw on so many levels, gut-wrenching and highly emotional for me as a mother. But there is a sweetness to Aiken and Claire’s relationship that also provides many moments of laughter. They are two well-written characters, and I felt deeply for them because Blaufield did a great job of SHOWING (not telling!) the reader how they fall in love.

While Aiken and Claire’s story ends with a nicely-tied HEA, there is a cliffhanger at the end where it comes to Claire’s best friend, Mary. Blaufield has me interested enough in that story that I’ll be keeping an eye out for it.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

The downpour stopped just as I did, soaked in rain and sweat. Rolling my neck, I took in my house. It was cute. Too cute for a single dude, but it was all fixed up, and I wasn’t in the mood for a renovation project.

I bent over to stretch, touching my toes, and before I could stand up, Smitty was at my feet, tail wagging, tongue lolling, begging to be petted.

“Smitty!” Claire came running out her front door, dark hair tied up in a messy bun, wearing tight black pants and a fitted green blouse. No shoes. She stopped in front of me, and I noticed her pink toes and tanned feet.

“Smitty, bad boy! You can’t leave the house.” She grabbed his collar and tugged him to her side.

“S’okay.” Wetness seeped into my eyes, and I swatted it away, making the burn worse. Squinting and blinking, I remained focused on the woman in front of me, and all woman she was. There wasn’t one girlish thing about my neighbor, and no—before you think it—I didn’t have mommy issues.

I had lean-muscular-legs and pouty-lips issues, both of which Claire had in earnest. Not to mention, I had a separate thing for independence after growing up around all these farming wives, who basically did all the heavy lifting for none of the credit. Then there was my dad, unable to move on, the epitome of lost.

“Don’t say that. He can’t be running out of the house.” Her breath was short at this point; she was almost panting. “He’s all I have.” It was a whisper of a sentence, but I heard it. Fuck it, I felt it. I got pain. Hated anyone else having to experience it.

She was eaten up with pain, but kept her head up—I could tell. I wanted to crack her veneers, let the pain ooze out, and see her smile in earnest.

Deep shit for a young guy, but I’d grown up fast. Like in the last forty-eight hours.

“I put my hand out to feel if it was still raining, and he bolted as soon as he saw you,” she continued to explain.

“Like I said, I’m cool with Smitty, but I get it. He can’t be escaping.”

“Thanks for understanding.” She stood, prim and proper, her gaze heavy on the concrete, clearly avoiding any direct eye contact.

“You okay, Claire? I’m sorry about last night.”

“I’m fine.” She turned back toward her house.

“Claire, listen, we got off to a bad start. Can we start over? Aiken Fordham, nice to meet you.” I held my hand out, flexing my bicep, waiting for her to return the favor.

“Claire Richards.” She took my hand, her smaller, dainty, and way smoother hand slipping into mine.

“Ugh. What do you want, Aiken? Look at you, shirtless, dripping from running in the rain.” Her hand whipped out of mine and began whisking up and down in the air, motioning at my very naked torso. “What could you possibly want from me? If you need an egg or a stick of butter, pop next door. Otherwise, let me be. I need to get out of here and beg Mary to give me a class full of students, probably not much older than you.” She alternated between eyeing me and her disobedient dog.

“You’re a beautiful woman, Claire,” I called, running up behind her. “And I’m a warm-blooded man, who’ll probably never have a need for a stick of butter. I’m a big boy. I know how to find a grocery store. All by myself too.”

She flung open her door and motioned Smitty inside. He stood at the screen door, staring us down with sad doggie eyes.

“Is there something wrong with getting to know my neighbor? I don’t know anyone here. Maybe you could be neighborly? Or are you so closed off you can’t do that? Because if so, that’s a damn shame,” I said through gritted teeth. Admittedly, I was more frustrated than I should have been. I was a man who desperately wanted the broken woman in front of me.

Synopsis

Nate Pearson is ridiculously handsome and wears the hell out of a suit and tie, but I’ve seen the parade of beautiful women leaving his apartment across the hall—a different one every time—and I want no part of it. When it comes to romance, I’m looking for something real, something that will last: the happily ever after.

As a divorce attorney, he loves to tell me there’s no such thing.

As a wedding planner, I choose to disagree.

We disagree on almost everything, in fact. Everything except James Bond. The only time we really get along is when we’re watching 007 flicks together, and I’ll admit—he has rescued me from a disaster or five. So when one of the baton twirlers from his parade leaves a baby girl at his door with a note that says “I’ll come back for her” and he begs me for help, I can’t turn him down.

But it’s a mistake.

Because watching him with his daughter, I start to see another side of Nate, a side that has my breath coming faster, my body craving his, my heart longing for him to change his mind about love and tell me there’s a chance for us.

I don’t want to be just another girl leaving his apartment in the morning.

I want to be the one he asks to stay.

Subtle
scents of cinnamon mix with the taste of whiskey on her skin. I lick her from
collarbone to the back of her ear, her moans enticing me to take more than a
gentle share of what I want.
I’m well
past hooking up with groupies, but something drew me to the beautiful brunette.
Under the bright spotlight of that stage, my eyes found hers as I sang about
finding the missing piece of me. Maybe it was the way she pretended to not
care, catching my eyes and then turning away as if she was too shy to come speak
to me, but too good to be bothered. It didn’t matter. I was already caught up
in her as much as she was caught up in me.
The set
ended and I made my way over to the mystery woman, the one who hid in the dark
of the bar just as two shots were served. I took the shot of Fireball and then
took her home shortly after.
Fuck. She feels good.
Hard little
body, but soft in all the right places. Tits that fill my large hands and legs
that spread enough for me to squeeze between her thighs. I bet she wouldn’t reach
my shoulders in heels. Speaking of, “Keep them on.”
I like the
feel of the leather against my lower back, the hard heel scraping across my
skin when she tries to power play me by tightening around my waist and pulling
me closer. I didn’t ask her to my bedroom. I didn’t have a chance. What started
out as laughing while we shared a two a.m. snack of Cheetos, hummus, and
whiskey turned into me eating her as a snack on top of my kitchen counter. I
don’t ever do that with a one-nighter, but damn if she didn’t make me want to
break more rules with her.
She kisses
me like a woman in need of water, taking as much as she wants while pressing
her heels into my ass. The heat between us emanates until I’m dragging my shirt
off to try to cool down.
I knew she
was different the moment she opened her mouth back at the bar. “You sing rock
with so much soul. Who hurt you?”
“No one
gets close enough to do me any harm.”
“That’s a
pity.”
“It’s a
pity I’ve never been hurt?”
“No, it’s a
pity you’ve never loved anyone enough to get hurt.”
My heart
started beating for what felt like the first time as I looked into her sultry
eyes. I could blame the booze, but I can’t lie to myself. She had me thinking
twice on things I never considered once before.
Who was this woman?
Even with
our stomachs full, we weren’t satisfied. She dragged me by the belt down the
hall to my bedroom. Her clothes were off and mine quickly followed before we
tumbled into bed.
Fast. I want to fuck her fast and hard, but every
time our eyes connect there’s such sadness found in her grays that I slow down.
Wanting her to hold contact, I cup her cheek. “Hannah?”
Her eyes
slowly open, the long lashes framing the lust I find between them. “What?” she
asks between heavy breaths.
“Are you
okay?”
“I’m good.”
“Just
making sure.”
She runs
her hands up my neck and into the back of my hair. “I’m sure.” Pulling me down
to her, our mouths are just a few inches apart when she whispers, “I want you. I
want to do this.”
Shy isn’t
something I’d call her considering we were in my bed two hours after meeting. I
like a woman who knows what she wants. Hannah knows. And fuck if it isn’t a
turn on that she wants me.

Kylie Gilmore
Publication date: January 10th 2018
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Book 1: Hidden Hollywood

She’s on top…

When superstar actress Claire Jordan researched her role for the Fierce Trilogy movies, she never expected the bond she feels with the author and her romance book club aka The Happy Endings Book Club. Soon Claire finds herself confessing her secret longing for a regular guy—no more egocentric wealthy players—and the book club is all too ready to help. In disguise as a regular girl, she’s all set for a date with book-club-approved Josh Campbell.

He’s on top…

Billionaire tech CEO Jake Campbell is weary of gold-digging women, especially the glamorous superficial types. So when his identical twin, Josh, calls in a favor, asking Jake to step in as him on a date, Jake figures one of Josh’s cute girl-next-door types might be just what he needs. One night of passion with the sweet girl next door leaves Jake wanting more, except she seems to have vanished.

Sometimes a Happy Ending is just the beginning.

Book 2: Inviting Trouble

Madison Campbell has worshipped her older brother’s best friend, Parker Shaw, for as long as she can remember. So the night before he leaves for the Air Force, she decides he’s leaving town with her virginity. All she has to do is transform her tomboy self into a sexy woman with a bit of borrowed makeup and some creative fashion choices. The results? One drunken kiss that Park doesn’t even remember.

Ten years later, no man has ever gotten close to her heart the way Park did. And now that he’s back, the very unfeminine Madison refuses to blow her second chance. But when her bold attempts to snag his attention (“Oops! Dropped my towel.”) fail miserably, she does something completely insane—she caves to a makeover from the meddling matchmaker in charge of The Happy Endings Book Club. Hey, Park, you want some of this? Madison is about to find out.

Book 3: So Revealing

The last thing Charlotte Vega needs is a cocky HOT stuntman like Ty Campbell in her life. But when he pulls the ultimate stunt—a sexy romantic gesture that ends with a charming invitation to a sunset dinner cruise—she finds him impossible to resist. Cue disaster.

Their rocky first date goes from bad to worse when his yacht (okay, it’s actually borrowed) gets stranded in deep mud. Turns out there’s nothing Ty can do but wait hours and hours for high tide with no power, no way to cook dinner, and a hangry sexy-as-hell woman.

But Ty is determined to salvage the date so he starts a game to pass the time. Only what Ty learns makes him realize he may have just botched a date with the perfect woman. How will he ever win her now?

Claire bit her lower lip. “Dammit. This is why I can’t have real relationships. I can’t trust anyone.”

“You can trust me.”

She sighed. “I don’t even know you.”

“Get to know me.”

“Jake…” She looked away.

“One date, the real deal. Jake and Claire.”

She was tempted. He could tell. She didn’t give him a no right away and now she was searching his face, looking for the truth. He leaned forward, brushing his lips against hers, coaxing. He pulled back and met her eyes, fully prepared to do this all night if he had to. Coaxing, charming, easing his way in. He’d thought coaxing would be too difficult with the way he wanted her, but having her pull away was much harder.

She spoke quietly. “You don’t want that kind of spotlight on you. It’s not pretty.”

It wasn’t a no.

“I want you, and whatever comes with it, I don’t care.” He cradled her face with both hands. “I want Claire.”

She closed her eyes, and he dropped his hands to her shoulders, sliding them down the satiny smooth skin of her arms to her hands. He took her hands from behind her and pulled them forward, just holding them. She didn’t pull away. He sensed she was leaning toward letting him in.

Finally she spoke, the words filling him with elation. “We’d have to keep it quiet.”

Not that he wanted to keep it quiet. He just wanted to be with her so much he was willing to play the game her way. For now. He kissed her softly and spoke against her lips. “Is that a yes?”

“Yes.” She shoved him away. “Now stop kissing me. One date. Jake and Claire.”

“Why do I have to stop kissing you?”

“Because you want to get to know me, remember?”

“I can get to know your body first. Get reacquainted.”

She laughed. “Yeah. I’ve heard that one before.”

He figured she probably did. Everyone wanted the sexiest woman alive. He’d seen the magazine giving her that honor and her bikini body splashed everywhere. He knew that kind of attention didn’t always bring out the best in people, and he realized he had to stand out from the pack.

He stepped back and helped her off the table.

“Such a gentleman,” she teased.

“It’s all an illusion,” he replied, not bothering to hide the edge of unsatisfied lust in his voice.

“Story of my life,” she said breezily. “I’ll text Hailey to let you know when I’m free.”

“At least give me your number now that we’ve established how much you lust for me.” She laughed, and he grinned. “I’d like to stop going through other people.” He pulled his cell from his pocket, punched in the code, and handed it over.

She typed her number in while saying, “I never give this number to anyone. Only a handful of people have it on a need-to-know basis. Can you handle that kind of responsibility?”

“What do you think?” It was an honor and, hell, he’d earned it with all his restraint.

She met his eyes, fire back in hers. “I hope so. I swear I will hunt you down—”

He cut her off with a kiss. Not a gentle one. The kind that said he’d be taking what he wanted and she’d damn well like it. She sagged against him.

When he was good and ready, he broke the kiss and snagged his cell from her limp hand. “Later, Claire Jordan.”

She fought back a smile and then beamed a big one at him, stunningly beautiful in her well-kissed, hot-for-him state. “Later, Jake Campbell.”

He grinned and headed out the door. Now that was more like it.
