CHAPTER ONE

LOGAN

Have you ever been chased by a ghost? Well, I have been running from one for the last four years. However, unlike most ghosts, this one has been chasing me toward something, or should I say someone, not away from them.

“Corpsman! We need the Corpsman!”

That’s my queue. I go running from behind the brush. This isn’t my first brush with death this tour, and I’m sure it won’t be my last.

I finally reach my team, yes team. I am not just any Corpsman, I belong to the Naval SWCC Team 5. I thought I was tough shit, but little did I know, I didn’t know shit.

“Cowboy, It’s Cruise. He’s been hit pretty bad.”

Fuck, anyone but Cruise. You see, Cruise is my best friend and the husband to the love of my life. I don’t have time for that story right now, I’ve gotta save this fucker’s life. Not just for him, but for our girl.

“What the fuck, Cruise?! Your call sign wasn’t enough to make the ladies drop their panties? You had to go and get shot up, so you have some badass scars to add to the package?”

I try to make jokes, but man, there is a lot of fucking blood. I hear all the guys in the background trying to reassure him, telling him that he’s going to be alright and make it home to Katie.

“Make room, assholes! I need to work. Hot Hands, grab that tourniquet and wrap it around the top of his leg, we need to stop the bleeding. Stop staring at him like he’s gonna die. We’re all gonna get out of here and share a beer. Get your lazy ass over here and put some pressure on the wound. Someone find a fucking ETA on our EVAC. We should have been out of here already. What the fuck are they waiting for?”

I keep working on Cruise with the team’s help when Kasper grabs my shoulder to get my attention.

“I don’t want to hear a fucking thing unless it’s good news.”

Kasper gives me one of his shit-eating grins, “Well then, listen up, ETA is 2 minutes or less.”

“It’s about goddamn time! Let’s prep Cruise for transport.”

I keep shouting orders to all the guys and eventually, we get him all strapped in and ready for transport. As the transport is landing, Cruise grabs my hand.

“Cowboy…” Cruise whispers.

“Cruise, I need to get your dumb ass onto this chopper and back to Katie. Save your strength.”

“Logan. Listen to me.”

Fuck, I hate when he uses my name. He thinks he’s going to die, I WILL NOT let that happen.

“Ryan, whatever you’re going to say, save it. You are not going to die, I won’t let it happen. You will be back with Katie, showing all the ladies your scars in no time.” I try to chuckle, but I know he sees right through me.

“Alright, you win, but if for some reason I don’t. You better go and get our girl, you hear me? I would never trust her with anyone but you.”

They say you’ll know when it’s your time to go, well Ryan knew. He didn’t even make it off the chopper. I want to say I got off that chopper and did exactly what my best friend asked, but I did the exact opposite. I walked right into the CO’s office and asked for a transfer. I’ve been running from Ryan’s last wish, and the love of my life, ever since.

Now you’re all probably thinking ‘what asshole falls in love with his best friend’s wife’? Before you decide to tar and feather me, listen to the story. Ryan and I met when we entered BUDs training to become Navy SEALs. We both knew we wanted to join the Navy, so we joined right out of high school. We also happened to have the aptitude for the SEALs, so of course, we wanted to have the prestige that goes with it, not to mention the ladies.

We’re all given call signs at some point, mine was Cowboy given my southern twang, the need to call every female Darlin, and I wear a cowboy hat. Ol’ Ryan was called Cruise because he was a smooth operator with the ladies. In all honesty, all he had to do was smile, and they were begging him. Sometimes fighting to let him get into their pants, that is, except Katie.

We met Katie while we were at Jump School in San Diego, CA. She was born and raised there. She’s 5’4 with gorgeous blonde hair, grass green eyes, and curves for days. Yes, curves, she’s not a toothpick that I could clean my teeth with. She had meat on her bones, so I know that when I stick my dick in her pussy, I won’t bruise my hips. God, how I would dream about sinking between the dripping folds of her pussy and how she would taste if I ever got my mouth on her, but Katie only had eyes for Cruise. So, like any real man, I let my friend have his girl. After training, I tried to fuck her out of my system. However, I discovered no matter whose pussy I was in, I imagined it was Katie. So eventually, I concluded that I would just wait it out. Either I will find someone else to love, or my hand and I will become better acquainted.

Like any best friend, Ryan knew, but he never gave me a hard time about it. He respected my need to stay away, and I respected their relationship. I kept in touch with Ryan via email and letters when we were on rotations, but I just couldn’t bring myself to see them together. However, after a few years, I was finally assigned to the same unit as good ol’ Cruise. I don’t know if it was fate or if he was just tired of me hiding from him.

So just like that day, he has chased me back. There is no hiding any longer, destiny had me by the balls so to speak. After volunteering for every mission possible I had no choice but to come back to San Diego.

Now, here I am, drinking a beer at our favorite hangout, The Mission, finally ready to claim our girl. I haven’t seen Katie in almost eight years. I’ll be surprised if she remembers me, I hope she doesn’t because I shouldn’t look anything like the snot nose kid she met all those years ago.

“There she is,” I say to my buddy Charlie as I take a swig of my beer.

“Holy shit, you weren’t lying, she is a BIG girl.”

“Charlie. If you didn’t save my life a time or two, I would kill you right now.” I growl, “If I ever hear those goddamn words come out of your mouth again, I will break your face. Do you understand me, boy?”

I don’t have to yell. Charlie knows I’m serious. God, she is just as gorgeous as she was back then. There’s a sadness in her eyes now that wasn’t there before, but I’ll make that go away. Ryan gave me a job to do, and I plan to do it if it’s that last thing I do.

I chug the last of my beer and throw some money down on the table. I wink at Charlie and the rest of the guys, “Don’t wait up boys. I’m going to get my forever.”

CHAPTER TWO

KATIE

“Thank the stars it’s finally Friday!” I say as I hop into my car.

I point my car toward The Mission, not even bothering to stop at home to change clothes. It’s been a long week, and all I want is a cold beer and some good music. Miserably aware that I should probably be headed to the gym instead of the bar, but I don’t care. I need something to take the edge off. It’s been one hell of a week, overtime every day, usual bullying bullshit at work, insomnia, the shit never ends. Gotta love working in Payroll the week paychecks process.

Home Sweet Home.

I snag a stool at the bar and holler for Jimmy to grab me my usual. I swear no one else works here but him. He lived and breathed the Navy SEALs for most of his life, and now he lives and breathes this bar.

Jimmy grabs me a Coors from behind the bar. “Haven’t seen you around in a while, what’s new?”

“Same shit, different day. You know how it goes,” I tell him with a sad smirk while hunching over so I can rest my elbows on top of the bar.

“Would you do me the honor of sharing a dance with me?”

I turn around to see who the owner of that sexy bass is talking too, and I come face to face with a sexy, clean-cut cowboy, with medium brown hair and dark blue eyes. His shirt is open at the collar showing a tan, strong chest, and forearms, basically, he looks just like sex on a stick.

“I’m sorry, are you talking to me?” I’m seriously confused, he can’t be talking to me.

With a sexy tilt of mouth, he says, “Yes, ma’am.”

And the sexy cowboy holds his hand out to me.

There is no way he is serious about this. A guy like him cannot possibly want to dance with me, the fat chick. I look down at his hand and then look around him waiting for his buddies to jump out and start laughing.

He bends over slightly so he can look me in the eyes and says, with a smirk, “I don’t bite, often.”

I’m sure he notices my hesitation, but I can’t shake the feeling that this is a setup. Against my better judgment, I place my hand in his, and he pulls me onto the dance floor. He steps in close, places one hand on my lower back, wraps my other hand in his, and holds it up against his chest.

“Care to tell me your name, darlin’?”

“Wanna tell me yours first?”

“You can call me Cowboy, everybody does.”

“Uhh, I’m Katie,” I stammer, I never stammer.

For some reason, it’s hard to think past how good it feels to be pressed up against him, and his intoxicating smell of sea salt and leather invade all my senses.

“Did your friends dare you to dance with me or something?”

Cowboy stops mid-step to stare at me flabbergasted.

“Why would you think that?”

“Look at me. I have no business being in the same room with you, much less dancing this closely.”

I drop my gaze toward the floor to hide the tears threatening to fall.

It really has been a long week, I should have just gone home.

Cowboy drops my hand and lifts my chin,

“Katie, you are a beautiful woman. Any man should be proud to lead you across the dance floor.”

He uses his thumb to wipe away the tears that have begun to trickle slowly down my cheeks and then leans in to give me a gentle kiss on my forehead before attempting to continue our dance.

Can I just crawl under a rock and DIE right here?

“I’m sorry, I guess I’m more tired than I thought. I should go, thank you for the dance.”

I turn around to leave, but he’s quicker than I anticipated. He wraps both arms around my waist and pulls me tightly to his chest.

“Katie, if you tell me the name of the man that made you feel unworthy, I will gladly rearrange his face…”

I can tell by the anger I see flash in his dark blue eyes and the tension that begins to radiate from his body, that he honestly means what he said.

“It’s not one person specifically, but a lifetime of the same lesson being hammered into my head,” I whisper.

As I stare into his eyes, I can’t help but feel like I know him from somewhere.

With his hand still on my chin, Cowboy lowers his head to kiss me, and kiss me he does. I feel this kiss all the way down to my bones. It’s been a long time since any man has kissed me like this, not since Ryan died, and I am beginning to feel those deep-rooted desires that I thought were lost to me forever. It isn’t until I feel him pushing against my aching center that I realize he has wrapped my leg around his waist. I begin to grind my aching pussy into his hard cock, and we both groan with pleasure. Suddenly, I remember that we are standing in the middle of the local bar, so with herculean effort, I manage to pull myself away from him. Cowboy notices my shift and releases my leg to the ground.

“I’m sorry, Katie. I forgot where I was. How about that dance?” He cocks one eyebrow at me.

I burst out with a loud “HA!” at his apology. I can’t remember when I have ever held a man’s attention, except for Ryan’s, long enough for him to forget where he is. I am a size 16, on a good day, I’m not the type of girl men lust after, much less damn near fuck in the middle of the dance floor.

“Did I say something funny, darlin’?”

He looks confused. He must not be used to woman laughing at him. Well, he’s being funny now.

The door opens, and some tall busty blonde walks in, turning every head in the bar, including Cowboys’. The new girl looks around and catches Cowboys’ eye. She gives him the patented “come hither” smile before walking to the bar. I better make my escape before I embarrass myself any further. I exhale loudly.

“You see, that is the kind of girl that men kiss and forget everything else around them. Not girls like me.”

I feel the tension return to Cowboy’s body as I attempt to pull away from him again, he takes a firm grip of my hands and wraps his arm tightly around my lower back, pulling me closer to him and fixing his intense eyes on mine.

“What I see when I look at that girl, is someone who needs to eat a bacon cheeseburger. She is looking for a plaything to beg at her feet. Neither one of those things interests me. You, on the other hand, are the most beautiful creature I have ever laid eyes on. You have curves that I want to explore with my tongue. I’m betting I can have an intelligent conversation with you while drinking a beer and eating. Yes, eating food, not that healthy shit ladies try to pass off as food nowadays.”

This man seriously wants to make me cry like a baby, I can’t help but stare up at him with a mixture of fear, hope, and longing. The last time I felt those things I was about 40 pounds lighter, and I was staring down into Ryan’s eyes as he was kneeling in front of me, asking me to marry him. I never thought I would be feeling these things again, is this alright or is this too soon? I don’t have time to contemplate all these questions before Cowboy grabs my hands and rests them on his chest once again. I can feel my hands trembling, and I’m sure he can too, but he doesn’t comment on it.

“Will you come with me, Katie? Get a cup of coffee or dinner? Anything?”

“Maybe another time. Thank you for making me feel like I’m not invisible.”

For the first time, in well forever, I’m not the wallflower watching her friends have fun and enjoy life. I’m out here on the dance floor living life to its fullest. Cowboy helped me be the girl I have always wanted to be, even if it was only for tonight. This time when I step back, he lets me go.

“Yeah, maybe,” he says with a sad smile. “It won’t be for a while though, I’m a SEAL and only have a few days of liberty before training.”

“Oh.”

Not again.

I can feel the terror, pain, and heartbreak all over again. However, the one surprising emotion I feel is sadness.

“I’m sorry, I can’t see you again. Ever.”

“That’s a real shame, sweetheart, because I would really like to see a whole lot more of you.”

He has got to be fucking kidding me! If he thinks he can give the big girl some attention and get a quickie, he has another thing coming. I can’t decide if I want to slap him or kiss him right now. I am going to settle for giving him a piece of my mind.

“Listen here, big boy, I am not some floozy that fucks random guys she meets at the bar. I’m not going to be some notch on your bedpost, a story to tell your boys, or a quick blow before a mission. If you’re looking for a wet hole to stick your dick in, I suggest looking elsewhere. Start the conversation with ‘I’m a SEAL’ and watch those panties drop. The blonde at the bar looks interested.”

I quickly turn and head back to the bar. Jimmy is standing there with a shit-eating grin on his face.

“I don’t want to hear a goddamn word. I will get you next time, I only had one beer.”

Jimmy chuckles in response, “Your beer is on me.”

He hands me my purse and jacket as I head out the door. I can hear Cowboy’s buddies laughing hysterically at one of the pool tables as the door swings shut behind me. Thank god the door swings shut before the tears start to fall.

Raised all over the country, I’m an interesting mix of East Coast meets West Coast with a little bit of Southern thrown in, just for good measure. I married a sexy man in uniform who let me spawn and am now raising a mutinous army of hell raisers that I created myself, all while he defends our country. I drink too much coffee until it’s late enough to drink too much wine and am sexually frustrated for your freedom. If you see me online, I’m probably sitting in a closet, hiding from my kids.

Fluent in sarcasm, Supernatural, and song lyrics, I like talking to people and finding what makes them tick, though that probably has to do with the Psychology degree. I’m up before the sun because my kids don’t sleep, chugging tea and coffee to keep my eyes open and my brain semi functional. Being married to a man in uniform means I’ve lived a lot of places, survived seeing my husband for half the amount of time I’ve been married, and spent a lot of time raising my kids alone.
I love to write messed up psychos with lots of angst, happily ever afters that have to be worked for. Women with sass and backbone, men with a twisted hero complex and the need to control are my favorite to read as well as write.

Blog Tour: Sunny Shelly Reviews The Upside Of Falling, by Meghan Quinn

Tucked away at the base of the Rocky Mountains lived a little boy with one singular dream: leave this broken and battered home and become someone.

Be somebody’s hero.

That boy was me—Colby Brooks. Except I’m not that same little boy anymore.

My dreams might still be the same, but my reality isn’t.

I’m smarter. Stronger. A man.

And I learned a long damn time ago, the only way to achieve my dreams was to avoid distractions—at any cost.

Focus. Resolve. Determination.

But all it took was one single night. One night and my entire life…changed.

One night had me colliding head first with the biggest distraction of my life; Rory Oaks.

Smart. Charming. Beautiful.

Rory changed everything.

Quickly, my one-track mind started to bend.

Each kiss faded decade-long dreams.

And with one single incident, I fly off course.

Head turned down, pushing the sleeves of his white Henley up his arms, he swaggers toward me. His jeans hang low on his hips, held up by the same brown belt he wore the other night. His narrow waist directs my eyes to the center of his jeans, and I can’t help wonder what might be behind the crotch of his pants.

And then there is his chest. Barrel like, broad and prominent. His thick biceps showcase his strength, and the fabric of his shirt stretches over his shoulders and forearms. Having spent a lot of time at the gym, I’ve seen every body type, but Colby’s is different. He’s strong, built, but not like a body builder. His body seems to suggest the only kind of weight he’s been lifting is his own body, pushup after pushup. I can’t imagine there being barbells in his workouts, but I can imagine logs, cadets, and heavy machinery. He has working muscles, the kind you earn from hard, dedicated work on the field. In a word? Impressive.

Walking up to Stryder, he grips his friend’s shoulder and says something into his ear. A smirk crosses Stryder’s face before he moves over to our side of the bowling alley and takes Colby’s place.

Is he leaving? Already?

Might as well at this point. It’s not like he’s going to talk to me, not after my pathetic attempt at a bet. I should have known I was going to hang out in the gutter all night. It’s where I usually am when I’m bowling. I blame the ball. The thing has a vendetta against me.

Sighing, I prop my chin in my hand and watch Stryder expertly toss his ball down the lane, getting a strike . . . once again. And just like every other strike, he pumps his arm up in the air and celebrates. We get it, you’re good, no need to—

“Hey.”

That voice . . .

Stunned, eyes wide, not able to move, not wanting to scare him away, I keep my eyes trained forward, soaking in that beautifully deep voice of his for a brief moment before saying, “Hey.”

“Can I sit here?”

Still keeping my eyes trained forward, I say, “Sure.”

My body tingles with awareness of how close he is to me, that fresh laundry scent invading my senses, prickling the little hairs on my arm. My body leans toward his, wanting a little more, searching for anything else he might give me. I don’t know why he’s choosing to engage me in conversation, but I’m sure as hell not moving while he does.

“Sorry about tonight,” he says and he actually sounds sincere.

“Why are you sorry?” I mumble.

Reaching around, he takes my cheek in his hand. The callouses on his palm rubbing against my skin is a welcome sensation. As I’m turned toward him, I steady my breathing. I’m having a hard time slowing my heart rate because of his close proximity, and the unexpected touch shooting a wave of heat through my veins.

“I’m sorry you didn’t get to ask me any questions. I didn’t think you were going to suck that bad.” A playful smile tugs at his lips, and my heart sinks to the floor. Oh God, he’s so gorgeous, especially when he smiles.

Matching his smirk, I say, “I didn’t think I was going to suck that bad either.”

“I feel bad.”

“You should.” That garners a laugh, deep and throaty, the sound cloaking me like a shield, protecting me from the outside world, bringing me into a little bubble where we are the only two that exist.

“Ask me a question.”

Shocked, I swallow hard and say, “Really?”

He nods and holds up his fingers. “You get three.”

“Oh, three? Wow, I feel like you just gave me the key to your soul.”

Rolling his eyes, he adjusts his stance on the barstool and leans back, giving us some space, our knees still knocking into each other. “Easy killer; it’s just three questions.”

“Yeah, three questions I didn’t have before.” Tapping my chin, I try to think of good questions, but now that I have him willing and waiting, nothing comes to mind. I wasn’t prepared for this, he caught me off-guard, and now I feel I can’t be strategic about my probing. “Hmm . . . what do you like to do on the weekends?”

“Jump,” he answers.

Searching his eyes, lips quirked, I say, “Uh, you’re going to have to be more specific than that. What kind of jumping are we talking here? Like jump roping? Because that seems kind of weird to do on the weekends, and if you tell me you’re in some kind of jump-roping club at the academy, I’m not going to believe you.”

His lips curve up as he scratches the side of his jaw. “Jump out of airplanes.”

Oh.

Oh.

That’s . . .

Uh, that’s really hot.

“So you just casually jump out of airplanes?”

“I’m part of the Wings of Blue, the academy’s parachute team. We jump every day, at least two to three times a day after class and before dinner, depending on wind and ceiling limits. On the weekends, some of the guys, including Stryder and me, go to Springs East Airport and do civilian jumps. The more jumps we get in, the higher the chance we’ll be considered for big demonstrations, like parachuting into football games and major sporting events for the Rockies and Broncos.” Ummmm. Did anyone else just hear how many words he gifted me? And seriously? Does the man have no clue how incredibly sexy he is when he talks about something he loves? The expression on his face . . .

“Wow, that’s . . . that’s really hot.” I chuckle. “Sorry, I don’t mean to fangirl over your parachuting, but I guess I wasn’t expecting that answer. You just jump out of planes?”

He slowly nods. “Every day.”

“Anything to get you up in the clouds, huh?”

“Yeah,” he answers shyly, rubbing his jaw. “Okay, next question.”

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I know when I dive into a Meghan Quinn book that I will love it. And I loved this story so much!! It was raw, an emotional roller coaster, hauntingly beautiful and ends on a cliffhanger that left me with my mouth gaping wide open — it’s the first in a duet, so the cliffhanger was a given going in. But in retrospect, I should have seen that coming!

Colby is such a perfect book boyfriend. He’s such a stand-up guy, despite the emotional and physical trauma of his childhood. And Rory has her share of family issues as well, which lead her to the position of showing Colby he is worthy of being loved.

But then we get to the end of the book, and Rory is just so selfless, even though both of their hearts are breaking!

The Upside Of Falling is a gem you don’t want to miss. The characters are lovely, the secondary characters are fun and loyal, without taking up too much space in the story…. and it ends on a cliffhanger that had me immediately jumping into The Downside Of Love to see what happens next!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

THE DOWNSIDE OF LOVE – July 5th

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.

Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Save The Date, by Carrie Aarons

Title: Save the Date
Author: Carrie Aarons
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: June 24, 2018
Blurb
You know that pact you make with your childhood best
friend of the opposite sex? The one where, if you’re both still single, lonely
and hopeless at thirty, you’ll marry each other?
This is the story about what happens when you hit the big three-oh and have to
make good on that pinky promise.

Personally, I think love, romance and all of that nonsense is a crock of, well,
you know. And Reese Collins, the boy who used to put worms in my hair at
backyard barbecues, knows that better than anyone.

But when he moves to the same city I’ve happily, and singly, inhabited for
years, memories of oaths past resurface. Reese is like a dog with a bone; a
really hot dog and that bone just happens to be me.

He won’t stop hounding me, and the crazy thing is, my frigid, traitorous heart
is starting to cave. For my best friend.

It seems so far off, when you’re a kid playing Monopoly in your treehouse. But
when that clock strikes midnight on your thirtieth birthday, and you’re
standing alone in front of a grocery store-bought cupcake, a childhood deal to
walk down the aisle doesn’t seem so silly anymore.

ADD TO GOODREADS

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Peas & Carrots Stars

Adorably fun best friends romance. As Reese and Erin approach their 30th birthdays, they are both thinking of the marriage pact they made at 15. But was it just a joke, or is Reese serious about cashing in?

Erin has some hang-ups about lasting love, having witnessed how her parents’ divorce destroyed her mom. Reese has always bounded from one relationship to the next — but only because he’s been in love with Erin for as long as he’s known her. Now that they are finally back to living in the same city, Reese pulls out all the stops to prove to his best friend that he’d make the perfect boyfriend… then husband.

Save The Date is a delight to read. It’s easy fare, pretty low on the smut scale, fun, likeable characters and a nicely rounded cast of supporting players. There is the slightest hint of OW drama in this story, but I honestly just kind of glossed right over it, because it was so inconsequential. Save The Date is the perfect summer beach read! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Release Blitz: Conviction, by Jane Henry

Brax can’t get the girl on the dance floor out of his mind, the woman he literally swept off her feet and into Club Verge. She’s no submissive, but he can’t help but admire her ferocity, even as he yearns to take her over his lap and teach her manners. He’s determined to keep her safe if he has to lock her up himself.

Officer Zoe Mackay can handle herself. But when she learns information that puts her life at risk, she’s forced to seek the assistance of a private investigator. Little does she know the man she hires is none other than Braxton Cannon, the high-handed dominant who gave her the hottest one-night stand of her life.

With her assailants in hot pursuit, Zoe is forced to seek refuge in Club Verge, where she finds way more than she’s bargained for…

There comes a point in any combat scenario where you know you’re losing. You know your only chance of overcoming your opponent is gone. In a staged scenario, like the training sessions at the academy, you might get hit a few times but admitting defeat will usually end the session, unless you’re at the mercy of an asshole who has a bone to pick with you. In a real life situation, you know you’re going down. It’s rare that someone will actually take a fight to the death. Even the most hardened criminals often have trouble pulling the trigger, finishing the job. Most of the time it just means you’re getting a beating.
Fuck it.
I have no idea what Brax will do. All I know is he restrained me once and that didn’t end up so well for him, so the likelihood of him upping his game is pretty damn strong. He’s gonna win this one. There’s no denying that, But I’m not going down without a fight.
I struggle and try to push away, but I find that he’s taking a weird position. He’s like kneeling or something instead of trying to pin me down again. He lifts me straight up in the air like I’m a rag doll, and hauls me straight across his knees. It takes me a second to register the position I’m in before his palm smacks against my ass. I don’t even react at first, I’m so shocked at what he’s doing.
I’ve been wrestled and beaten and subdued. But hell. No one’s ever… spanked me before.
“What the fuck!” I protest, as a second vicious smack of his palm on my ass pushes the breath right out of me. “What the hell are you doing?
He doesn’t say anything. He just sorta shifts his position so that now my head is lower on the floor and my ass is higher up in the air, giving him what I’d imagine is a very clear target.
“Brax!”
In silence, he pins me down and gives me two, three, four wicked spanks.
This feels weird. I’m not sure what to do. It hurts, I can’t deny it, and I would have expected I’d feel like a kid or something, being spanked like this. He spanks me again, and again, and I can’t even fight him now. I’ve tried that and it got me nowhere. I’ve got to try another tactic.
“I’m sorry!” I manage to squeak out in between whacks of his brutal palm. “Ok, I’m sorry!”
He pauses and rests his hand on my scorched ass. He’s heaving with the effort of restraining and spanking me, and for a moment the only sound in the kitchen is both of us panting.
“Seriously. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that,” I say. Weirdly, the desire to beat the shit out of him is now gone, and I have to admit I’m actually feeling pretty subdued. What the hell happened there? “Please let me up and we can talk.”
To my surprise, I feel his hand fisting at the nape of my neck, my hair all tangled up in his fingers. He pulls my head back and his mouth is at my ear. Warm breath tickles my skin, but it’s what he says that makes me tingle. “You ever fucking pull something like that again, you’ll lose your pants and I’ll spank your bare ass. You understand me?”

Excerpt
We got a
little buzzed and when the lounge singer sang, “The First Time Ever I Saw Your
Face,” that was it for me. When I took her into my arms and danced with her, I
knew it was more than lust. I was totally fucking in love with the feisty,
green-eyed, chestnut-haired beauty from Idaho.
“Blake—” My
tiger’s voice cuts into my memories.
“Yeah,
baby?” I take out my earbuds.
“Do you
want to take a walk?”
My gaze
shifts in her direction. She looks ravishing. Her toned limbs luminescent in
the moonlight, her dress gently blowing in the ocean breeze along with her up swept
hair. I stare at her exquisite face, aglow in the campfire, her green eyes
glittering like two stars that have fallen from the sky.
The first
time ever I saw her face . . . Yes, I thought the sun rose in
her eyes. And even before that I felt the earth move in my hand, the first time
I ever kissed her mouth.
The song
plays in my head. A sensation that I can’t put into words falls over me. It’s
like a fire that’s burning from the inside out, consuming every atom of my
being. A love so deep it hurts. I respond to her question.
“Baby, go
get your iPod.”
Without
questioning me, she pivots and heads toward her backpack. While she’s riffling
for the device, I put out my cigar in the sand and search my library of songs.
It doesn’t take me long to find it.
She returns
to me quickly and sits down facing me.
“You want
to just hang out and listen to music?”
“Give me
your iPod.”
Again,
without questions, she hands it over. I quickly program it. I wrap the band
around her upper arm and then fasten mine around my bicep. I help her to her
feet and draw her close to me.
“Dance with
me, tiger,” I breathe against her neck, before putting the buds into our ears.
With love
in her eyes, she gazes up at me. A faint smile, that’s more wistful than
lustful, fixes on her kissable lips, as our song plays in her ears.
No more
words.
I wrap my
arms around her, clutching her gorgeous ass, while she loops hers around my
neck and rests her head on my chest. Our bodies glued together. Heat to heat.
Organ to organ. Heartbeat to heartbeat.
Every sound
and worry in the world blocked out, we slow dance to the song that changed our
lives forever. The song we played at our third and final wedding. The one that
sealed our love forever. Taking one small step at a time as we sway, our feet
sink into the soft, warm sand.
Under the
moon.
Under the
stars.
The
heavens.
Oneness.
Us.
If there’s
such a thing as Paradise, this is it.

Title: Young Love
Author: Alyson Santos
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Cover Design: Bruiser Designs

Release Date: July 25, 2018
Blurb

Sometimes you need
to let yourself fall…
Recently divorced Sienna Porter has the life she’s supposed to. A house,
career, even a hot young contractor working upstairs to distract her. At
thirty-eight, she’s entitled to a little fun (according to her best friend,
anyway).

Pain, though— it’s so clever in the way it infects hope and poisons happiness.

Jace Beckett should be flying high. Talented, driven, and disciplined, he’s far
beyond his twenty-three years. He’s used to the game, the attention his looks
and highly-trained body get from women. Doesn’t mean he likes to play.

Doesn’t mean his own secrets aren’t intent on tearing him down.

It’s just a fling. Sexy. Temporary. It’s not supposed to last. It’s not
supposed to transform into love. It’s certainly not supposed to become the air
you breathe and everything worth fighting for.

Author Bio
I’m a writer,
musician, and cat lover. I also have an alternative music obsession. Seriously,
it’s a real problem.
I write what needs to come out, whether it’s pain, tears, or laughter. I write
people and relationships, about the beauty and horror of what we do to
ourselves and each other. I write Love. Vengeance. Compassion. Cruelty. Trust.
Betrayal. Forgiveness. Darkness, and the incredible way humans destroy and heal
each other.

I like to eradicate barriers, refusing to be confined by the laws of physics or
limitations of reality. I will befriend a vast population of possibilities and
introduce them in ways that might surprise you.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Craving Mr. Kinky, by A.M. Madden & Joanne Schwehm

Craving Mr. Kinky by A.M. Madden and Joanne Schwehm
Publication Date: June 20th, 2018
Series: Mr. Wrong #4
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Here’s a tip: When you least expect it, expect it.

I’d been known to have my share of beautiful women. Usually, I met them in a bar, through a mutual acquaintance, or even when photographing them.

Imagine my surprise when a gorgeous blonde drove her car into mine on the way to a party.

No more than a minute after our run-in, a string of colorful words flew from her mouth in rapid fire.

Unexplainably, the angrier she became the harder I got. All sorts of scenarios played in my head of how I could get her to shut up. I was all for feisty women, but I preferred leaving that for the bedroom—not on the streets of New York.

When I learned she was a school teacher, that worsened my disposition. What man didn’t have a dirty teacher fantasy at one point in his life? I decided it was my turn to teach her a thing or two… or so I thought. Little did I know, Miss Prim-and-Proper would turn the tables on me.

She called me Mr. Kinky, and that was fine with me.

Lesson learned: Desire always trumps logic.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Another great story in the Mr. wrong series! I thought that Sabrina and Luca had the best meet-cute of the bunch, but the fender bender that introduces Cassie and Dante may be a tie!

The sweet Cassie we know gets all kinds of riled up by the hot Italian photographer, and she is unlike any woman whom Dante has crossed paths with before. That spark of hate leads to some steamy romance between the two, but when Dante gets he offer of a lifetime, will they find that their love is strong enough to weather what is ahead?

I actually expected this book to be a little more erotic than the others, considering the title, but most of the kink takes place between scenes.

I hope we get a story for Des, because I’m not ready to say goodbye to this group of friends yet! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

KINKY_TEASER_6.5.jpg

Excerpt:

Dante

If she wanted to play, I’d play. The tiny black fabric perfectly highlighted the curves of her ass as she ran ahead of me. When she craned her head back to see how far behind I was, her tits looked as though they were ready to escape the scraps shielding them.

Her laughter sounded like a melody as she made it to the deck stairs. It would have been easy to catch her, but seeing Cassie carefree and playful was worth her thinking she’d bested me.

When we were both standing next to the pool, breathing heavy, her a little more winded than me, she snapped my picture. “How does it feel?” she said with friskiness before bringing my camera to her face again for another shot.

Glancing down, I spotted her book. There was no way she could grab it before me, unless she dropped my camera, which I knew, or hoped, she wouldn’t do.

Cassie’s eyes narrowed as I opened the page just before her bookmark. “Ahem.” My eyes scanned the words, and I couldn’t help but grin. Was this the stuff she was into? Who knew?

“Here,” she said with a nervous voice, and extended my camera toward me. “Take it and give me my book.”

“No way, this is too good.” Cassie’s glare turned into a wide-eyed look of horror. “Ethan pushed my body over the edge of his expansive desk, forcing papers to fly to the floor. Heat pooled between my legs, wetness coated my panties as my boss shoved my skirt up to my waist. With gentle force, he grabbed my wrists in his hand before the cool metal of cuffs bound my arms together.” I glanced up, and Cassie’s face was beet red, but I continued. “The thought of getting caught by another employee should have scared me, but instead, it thrilled me. I knew of Ethan’s history, his love of BDSM, and if that’s the way he wanted me, then that’s what I would give him. His deep voice rumbled, ‘I’m going to fuck you like you’ve never been fucked. Spread your legs and show me how wet you are’” I arched a brow and looked at Cassie. “Wow, Ethan’s a kinky fucker.”

She reached forward, offering me my camera. “Can I please have my book back?”

“Will you let me take a picture of you?”

She let out a resigned sigh. “Okay, if you stop reading.”

“Deal.”

Once we made the swap, my camera for her romance novel, she crossed her arms in front of her chest while still hanging on to her book. “How do you want me?”

“That’s a loaded question, but for now set the book down and lie on the chaise.”

Sunny Shelly’s Review: Family Ties, by Stephie Walls

Family Ties Ebook.jpgRelease Date: June 21, 2018

Cover Design: Wicked by Design

Synopsis

With a history like ours, the meaning of the word family tended to tangle into something unrecognizable. DNA and bloodlines didn’t tie us together, and neither did our last names. Various shades of grey blurred the branches of our twisted family tree.

I wasn’t her brother.
They weren’t my parents.
Not that it mattered…

She was off limits.

Portia was my friend.
Then my foster sister.
And she’d always be the love of my life.

Goodreads

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

This coming-of-age story is filled with angsty, forbidden goodness! Portia and Jude have such a special connection from the first night that they meet as foster kids, and that bond only grows over time. For Jude, he knew he was in love from that very first night when he was just 8 years old, but it is a long and very winding road before he and Portia get their HEA.

Both characters have some demons to fight, but Jude really struggles to overcome his mother’s death and keeping the relationship with Portia a secret. Stephie Walls does a great job with The Conflict that splits them up, and the journey that Jude goes through in the time afterwards leads to the most beautiful reconciliation.

You will fall in love with these characters. Not just Jude and Portia, but their foster parents (who take the news of the relationship surprisingly well!) and the eclectic group of friends. This story is a perfect example of how DNA does not necessarily make people family. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Available Now! The Upside Of Falling by Meghan Quinn

THE DOWNSIDE OF LOVE – July 5th

This isn’t a story about a love triangle. There is no triangle involved.

This isn’t a story about an accidental pregnancy. Although having a baby with her . . . I would.

This isn’t a story about lies and deception, even though at times I’ve lied to myself.

No, this is my story.

A story about sacrifice.

A story about a man who fell in love with the wrong girl.

A story I wish I never had to tell.

This is a story about the true meaning of the downside of love.
