A dare turns into so much more…

All I want to do is get to work on time.
But a Prince Harry look-a-like is trying to steal my cab,
And I’ll fight for it to the bitter end.

In the midst of our verbal battle,
I discover I lost my wallet.
So I bargain—a free ride for a kiss.

What starts out as innocent quickly steams up the windows.
His lips are soft, and when he tugs me closer,
I press my entire body against his hard muscles, and practically strip him from his expensive suit.
This is the best taxi ride of my life.
Until it ends just as quickly as it began.
Embarrassed over my behavior, I rush out without so much as a goodbye.

But fate, that bitch,
Has us pounding on the same locked door.
Already knowing I’m going to be fired,
I curse my new boss and his new rules.
The hot suit laughs, and dares me to tell my new boss what a dick he’s being.
With nothing to lose, I accept.

Never in a million years could I have imagined he is my new boss.
Arrogant.
Sexy.
And totally off-limits.
Dating him is against the rules.
His rules.
He doesn’t seem to care.
Until I dare him not to fall in love with me.

Even then he says that’s easy.
That the only four-letter word he lives by is duty.
But this would-be-king is about to fall hard…for a commoner.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Another fun, sexy read from Kim Karr in her new royals series! I loved the meet-cute between Max and Gigi when he hijacks her cab in NYC. The horror! And then he’s her jerk of a new boss, and her day goes from bad to worse!

This couple had sizzling energy and chemistry, and I love that Max is a ginger. He is definitely a swoon-worthy hero, and his torment about needing to do the right thing versus what his heart wants when it comes to a relationship with Gigi definitely comes across on the page. The two of them try so hard to temper what they are feeling for one another, but Max had even more to lose should Gigi find out who he truly is.

I’m really enjoying this hot new royals series from Karr and can’t wait to see what happens in the next book! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Out of nowhere, I ask my friend, “Danny, do you believe that two people are meant to meet? Like their destiny is written in the stars and all that mushy crap?”
“Mushy crap? Wow, so poetic there, B. But yes, I do.” He pauses and looks at me before adding, “And yes I do think that you skipping out on Hottie McHotterson was a mistake, but because I believe in fate and all that mushy crap, I believe you and he will meet again.”
“You think?” I ask.
He nods his head. “Yep, and you know why?” He doesn’t give me a chance to answer. “Because you, Bryce Dalton, never take risks like you did with him and because you took said risk, the universe is now on your side and you will meet him again.” He walks over to me and grips my shoulders. “And if you skip out on him again, I will kick your ass to Alaska and back. Capeesh?”
With a smile, I nod my head. “Capeesh, and I hope you are right, because I’m kicking myself for being such a moron that weekend.”
“You’re not a moron, babe. You are Bryce-fucking-Dalton, owner of Blushing Buds AND second best florist in Vancouver. You will get your second chance, and this time you won’t sneak out, you’ll ride him like a cowgirl—” I smack him in the arm to shut him up.
“Okay, okay, I get it and I hope you are right…”
“I knew you’d like to be on top.” He winks at me.
“Oh, stop, you fiend. Now pass me the hydrangeas and ranunculus so I can finish this bouquet.”

New Release: Sunny Shelly Reviews The Last Letter, by Rebecca Yarros

The right words can save your life.

For fans of Nicholas Sparks and Jodi Picoult… A soldier falls in love with his battle buddy’s sister through their letters and returns home from Afghanistan with a secret that could destroy their fragile relationship. Don’t miss THE LAST LETTER by Rebecca Yarros! Grab your copy today!

About THE LAST LETTER:

Beckett,

If you’re reading this, well, you know the “last-letter” drill. You made it. I didn’t. Get off the guilt train, because I know if there were any chance you could have saved me, you would have.

I need one thing from you: Get out of the army and get to Telluride.

My little sister Ella’s raising the twins alone. She’s too independent and won’t accept help easily, but she has lost our grandmother, our parents, and now me. It’s too much for anyone to endure. It’s not fair.

And here’s the kicker: there’s something else you don’t know that’s tearing her family apart. She’s going to need help.

So if I’m gone, that means I can’t be there for Ella. I can’t help them through this. But you can. So I’m begging you, as my best friend, go take care of my sister, my family.

Please don’t make her go through it alone.

Ryan

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 5 Stars

I knew before I started reading The Last Letter that it would be an ugly cry book. But I had no idea that this story would absolutely rip my heart to shreds.

Ella is a single mom of twins, who has lost just about all of her family. All except her brother Ryan, who is currently serving overseas in the Army. One day, Ryan asks Ella to write to his buddy, a lonesome guy who has has nobody to communicate with, and whom Ryan feels could use some connection. Having grown up in the foster system, Chaos/Beckett has no connections, no roots, and doesn’t feel like he’s deserving of a family, or love, or forever. But through the letters of his new pen pal, Chaos finds that for the first time in his life, he wants more than to simply be content with what he has. He wants all of those things that he never dared dream about.

When Ryan is killed in action, his last letter is to Beckett, begging his best friend to take care of his sister. When he finally arrives on Ella’s doorstep several months later, Beckett is so full of guilt, so afraid of letting Ella know who he really is — that he is Chaos — for fear that should she learn the truth, it will destroy what is left of her heart, and he will not be able to fulfill his best friend’s dying wishes.

“Because somewhere between letter number one and letter number twenty-four, I’d fallen in love with her.”

Each chapter, more or less, begins with one of Ella and Beckett’s letters that they exchanged. They are not shared to the reader in order, but the letter presented at the start of each chapter perfectly aligns with how Yarros propels the present-day story forward in the pages that follows. I loved getting the inside look at how Chaos and Ella began to develop feelings for one another despite the thousands and thousands of miles between them, and having never even met.

This story takes a twist that I absolutely wasn’t expecting, and it left me sobbing. It was soul-crushing for both Beckett and Ella. But as difficult as that plot development was to read, it really brings everything together for both of them, as well as her kids.

But for as heartbreaking as The Last Letter is, it is just as much an absolutely heartwarming romance. A magnificent story between two people, each lonely in a different way, each battling some major demons, who find a love and peace and contentment with one another that they never expected. All because Ella put pen — not pencil — to paper.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt:

“Ella.” It was a plea to speak, to not speak. Hell, I didn’t know anymore.

“You don’t see me like that. I totally get it.” She reached for the TV remote.

“How exactly do I see you? Please, enlighten me.” I leaned forward, stealing the remote. She’d opened this box and had better well dish it.

She huffed in annoyance. “You see me as a mom. As Colt and Maisie’s mom. And of course you do, because that’s what I am. A mom with two kids.”

“Well, yeah,” I said. Her motherhood—that selfless devotion she had to her kids—was one of her most attractive attributes.

She rolled her eyes with a little sigh, and the metaphorical light bulb went off in my head.

“You don’t think I want you.”

She shot me a look that confirmed my guess and blushed the same crimson of her couch. “You know, you’re right. It’s late.” She faked a yawn. “Suuuuuuper late.”

“I want you.” Damn, it felt so good to say the words.

“Yeah, okay.” She gave me a goofy look and a thumbs-up. “Please don’t make me feel any more idiotic than I do right now.”

Yeah, enough of this bullshit.

I pounced in one smooth motion, taking her back to the couch, sliding over her as I gathered her wrists in one hand above her head and settled between her open thighs.

Home.

“Holy shit, you move fast.” There was no fear or rejection in her eyes, just surprise.

“Not in every arena,” I promised.

Her lips parted.

“Ella. I want you.”

“Beckett…you don’t have to.”

Yeah, that soft little sigh she did was going to be my undoing.

I let go of her wrists, letting my fingers trail down her arm until I had one hand weaving my fingers into the hair at the base of her scalp and the other at the curve in her waist.

“Feel this?” Then I slid forward, letting my dick stroke along the seam in her pajama pants hard enough for her to gasp at the contact. I couldn’t remember ever wanting to shred a piece of fabric so much in my life. “I’ve never wanted a woman as much as I want you.”

I moved again, and her eyes slid shut as she let loose the sweetest moan.

My dick throbbed, knowing everything I’d fantasized about for the better part of the last eight months was one decision away.

“Beckett.” Her hands found my biceps, her nails digging in.

“Don’t ever think that I don’t want you, because if things were different, I would have already been inside you. I would know exactly how you feel, and what you sound like, look like, when you come. I’ve thought about it at least a hundred different ways, and believe me, I’ve got a great imagination.”

She rocked her hips against me, and I locked my jaw to keep from giving her exactly what her body was asking for. “Ella, you have to stop.”

“Why?” she asked, her lips dangerously close to mine. “What do you mean if things were different?” Her eyes flew wide. “Is this because I have kids?”

“What? No. Of course not. It’s because you’re Ryan’s little sister.” Before I could do any more damage, I got the hell off her and sat back on my side of the couch.

“Because…I’m Ryan’s little sister,” she repeated, scooting so she sat upright, facing me. “And you think he’d, what? Haunt you?”

Three things: The letter. The cancer. The lie.

I repeated those in my head until I was certain I could look at her and not drag her back under me.

“Beckett?”

“When I was growing up, if I wanted something, I took it. Immediately. I had sex at fourteen with a girl in my foster home of the moment. I opened Christmas presents early if I was lucky enough to get one, and it was usually from my social worker or some charity.”

“I don’t understand.” She wrapped her arms around her knees again.

“I took it immediately because I knew if I didn’t, chances were I wouldn’t get it. It was a now-or-never kind of thing—there weren’t second chances.”

“Okay.”

“I can’t touch you, can’t talk about it, because I’m afraid I’ll act on it.”

“And why does that matter if I want you to?”

“Because I won’t get a second chance. And I’m crap with people, with relationships. I’ve never had one that lasted more than a month. Never loved a woman I’ve slept with. And chances are I’d do something to screw this up, because it’s not just my dick that wants you, Ella.”

That O popped right back onto her face, and I closed my eyes to keep from lunging across the distance and kissing her. Knowing she’d let me—that she wanted it—sent my need from a bullet to a nuclear missile.

“And when I’d screw it up, because it would happen, trust me, it would hurt Colt and Maisie, too. You’d be on your own again, because there’s no chance you’d let me hang around and help you out like Ryan asked.”

“And there it is.”

“There it is. You’re Ryan’s little sister.”

“There were only five years between us. Not so little, you know.” She reached for the remote.

“I’m well aware.”

“So if Ryan were still alive…” She shot one last look at me.

I let everything slip for a millisecond, letting her see it all in my eyes, how badly I wanted her, and not just for her body. “Everything would be different.”

“Everything?”

“Everything but the way I feel about you, which he probably would have killed me for. Where does that leave us?”

“You mean besides me being a dried-up spinster and you being honor-bound to a ghost?”

“Something like that.”

She rolled her head along the back of the couch, muttering something that sounded like a curse word under her breath. Then she sat up straight and powered on the TV with a click of her thumb. “That leaves us choosing a movie on demand. Because I’m not letting you walk out that door right now.”

“You’re not?”

“Nope. You walk out now, you might get all weird about this and not come back. Honor is a fabulous thing, but sometimes pride can be a lot stronger, especially when you convince yourself it’s for the good of the other person.”

Damn, the woman knew me.

“So movie it is,” I agreed. “Just…stay on your side of the couch.”

“I wasn’t the one who crossed the center line,” she teased with a smile that got me hard all over again.

Movie chosen, we sat and watched, both of us stealing sideways glances. There was that saying…the horse out of the barn. Yeah, the horse was out of the barn, and it wasn’t going back in. Not no way. Not no how.

That horse was running amok and screwing with my carefully constructed control.

But I didn’t complain when she moved over. Or when she pressed against my side. Nope. I lifted my arm and savored the feel of her curves, her trust. Still didn’t complain when she lay down in my arms. Hell no, I held on and memorized every second.

“This story gripped me from start to finish. The Last Letter is poignant, heartfelt and utterly consuming. I loved it!” – Mia Sheridan, NYT Bestselling Author

“Hands down, the best book I’ve read all year.” – Fic Wishes

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

It took me a bit longer to get into Brian and Kellie’s story than it had for Tyler and Jessica’s, but once it all clicked into place, I really got into the burly bodyguard and country sweetheart. I think it was because I didn’t get to see their previous interactions and read for myself why they didn’t like each other very much. (Or, as the case may be, why they liked each other too much).

Set in the same World as Hollywood Playboy, Kellie is Jessica’s best friend and the stories seem to run at the same time. There is also some crossover to Faux Pas, since Brian works at the same private security firm as Hunter. Hollywood Princess has all the same heat and spark, but there is also a bit of a mystery as Kellie is being stalked by a crazed fan. So Brian is called in as her private bodyguard, making life miserable for both of them since the connection between them is sizzling. When Kellie’s life is in danger, Brian will go to extremes to keep her safe.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

Beautifully Broken Pieces is a beautifully written romance. Taylor and Walker are wonderful together, from the moment they first meet, to the way he loves all of her broken pieces. After her mother’s death, Taylor just wants to isolate herself from the world, but Walker sees through her heartache and pain, and is simply there as a friend more than anything else at first. Slowly, he breaks down her walls and pieces together her shattered heart. Meanwhile, Walker is running from the ghosts of his past, and he finds a sense of peace in Taylor.

As Walker and Taylor are falling for one another, there is a bit of a mystery going on in Sutter Lake, but it does not take away from the romance between Walker and Taylor. It kind of plays into their relationship a bit, since it brings up all sorts of memories for Walker. Her friends and his family are wonderful supporting characters, and Cowles paints a beautiful picture of Sutter Lake.

Overall, this was quite an enjoyable story, but I didn’t love it the way I thought I would. The blurb drew me in, and I was expecting this to be a sobfest, which it wasn’t for me.

I received an advanced story and voluntarily left a review.

Irresistible, an all-new fun and swoony standalone from USA Today bestselling author Melanie Harlow, is available now!

Irresistible FOR WEB.jpg

I’m a full-time single dad to three daughters and CFO at Cloverleigh Farms. I don’t have time to fall in love—I’m too busy trying to run a business, keep the red socks out of the white laundry, and get the damn pillowcases on without owing a dollar to the swear jar.

Sure, Frannie Sawyer is beautiful and sweet, but she’s twenty-seven, the boss’s daughter, and my new part-time nanny—which means she’s completely off-limits. It’s bad enough I can’t stop fantasizing about her, what kind of jerk would I be if I acted on the impulse to kiss her?

(Exactly the kind of jerk you’re thinking.)

Actually, I’m worse than that—because I didn’t stop with a kiss, and now I can’t stay away. She makes me feel like myself again. She reminds me what it’s like to want something just for me. She’s everything I ever needed, but nothing I ever imagined.

I’m a former Marine. I should have had the strength to resist her from the start.

But I didn’t. And now I have to choose between the life I want and the life she deserves.

Even if it means giving her up.

Blurb:
Homer Carnegie. Admit it—you know my name. Your kid’s got my e-trading card. Your husband sits up straighter when I stroll onto the TV screen. He knows I’m going to crack the bat and save the day. Even your grandma’s jonesing for my autograph. But women my age? They’re the worst. Or would that be the best?

It’s not my fault they line up at the door. They catch my balls all right, two at a time sometimes, or even three. Believe me, everybody wins.

At least they did—until the video. I heard TMZ paid a million for a bird’s eye view of Homer on his A-game. The only folks who didn’t watch with eager eyes? Red Sox management. They want me benched, or worse, shipped off to rehab.

It’s a long story, what happens next. How I end up on a boat, bound for the world’s most remote island: Tristan da Cunha. Just a speck of dust in the Atlantic.

Except my heart is there.

I don’t know that when I step onto the boat.

I don’t know a lot of things.

What I’ll covet…

What I’ll lose…

Excerpt:
“You’re a liar.” The words are like velvet, and his face is set like stone.

“No, I’m not! Now go away from me!”

I shove his chest without forethought and then recoil as fear pounds through me.

“Tell me you don’t want me. C’mon, fucking tell me, Finley. Make it easy.”

“I want you, and I hate it. I hate you!”

“Tell me you don’t want my hands on you. My mouth right there.” His finger points to my throat. I can’t swallow. His hands run down my arms, the warm palms feather-light. His face is grave as all the universe.

I can say nothing. I’ve made unforgivable mistakes, so many errors in judgment. My foot is caught in moss I’ll never break free of…and still I crave him.

“I don’t want to want you,” I say, the words barely there.

To my surprise, he laughs, his prince’s mouth twisting before he tosses me over his shoulder and makes off toward the curtain, striking it aside to stride toward the beds.

“I don’t want to either, so I guess that makes it even.”

Book Description
ELLIOT

Happily settled into my new position at FMK Weddings, I never expected to be presented with the career opportunity of a lifetime. And I definitely wasn’t expecting it to mean working with Bryce McKnight.

Bryce was the heart and soul of my childhood—my best friend.Until life pulled us apart and we lost touch.

Our friendship picks up right where it left off—complete with colorful trash talking and wagers on Mario Kart showdowns—only, I’m pretty sure friends don’t make out in parking lots or have naked sleepovers…

BRYCE

The first time we met, I won Elliot Kincaid’s trust with candy and card games.

After everything I’ve done, it’ll take a lot more to win her heart.

Fortunately, I love a good challenge.

With so much at stake for us both, I know Elliot thinks we’re setting ourselves up for heartbreak.

I’ll just have to show her that our friendship was always meant to be the foundation of our forever.

*What It Takes to Fall is a stand alone in the Forget Me Knot series.

Sunny Shelly’s Review: 4 Stars

What It Takes To Fall is the third book in a series of interconnected stories, but can be read as a standalone.

Elliot and Bryce are childhood best friends who lost touch a decade ago. As teenagers, they were everything to one another. He was her haven, her rock, her safe place. In present day, Elliot’s life is going pretty well, but unexpectedly crossing paths again with Bryce years and years later throws her into a tailspin. For Bryce, he grabs on to the opportunity to prove to Elliot that they can be each other’s everything and more. But will the lives they lead during their years apart threaten to ruin any chance they have a future together?

There is an easy rapport between the characters that comes with having years and years of history together. That goes a long way in making the reader invest in the hero and heroine. What It Takes To Fall is a feel-good best friends romance, reclaiming the one who got away.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Excerpt:

I started scanning her body, making a blatant show of it. “Hmm. You’ve gotta have an off button somewhere. ‘Hello. My name is Elliot Kincaid. I do not know how to relax’,” I mimicked in a robotic voice, continuing with my perusal until she leaned forward and smacked my arm.

“That’s not true!”

“Really? When was the last time you did something non-work-related for fun on a weekday?”

“Last night.”

I closed my laptop and arched a brow. “Uh, while it was fun, that’s called dinner, and it’s something most people do on a regular basis.”

She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, making an equally dramatic show of annoyance. “Fine. But isn’t this like the pot calling the kettle black? Weren’t you a super-workaholic early in your career?”

She had a point, but I wasn’t going to admit it. Instead, I ran my fingers through my hair—knowing it would put that lust-filled look in her eyes—and said, “We can talk shop. On two conditions.”

“I’m listening.”

“One—this shop talk takes place at Sipology while we drink. And two, afterward, we do something fun, and you’re not allowed to talk or even think about work or the inn. Do we have a deal?”

“You drive a hard bargain, Caesar, but we’ve got a deal,” she said, extending her hand for a shake.

I groaned, but took her hand all the same.

“Sorry, would you prefer Princess Peach?”

“Real cute, El.” I leaned in, bringing one hand up to tuck her hair behind her ear so she’d feel my lips brush her lobe. “You can give me a million different nicknames, as long as the name you scream in my bed is the real one.”

I pulled back slowly, relishing the sight of her widened eyes.

She continued to stare while I finished packing up.

“If you’re going to keep staring at me like that, can you at least do it at the bar? I need a stiff drink right about now.”

To go along with the part of me that El’s stare is steadily stiffening with each passing second.

She blinked and shook her head, like she was just now coming back from a daydream. “Great! Yes, liquor. That’s a great idea.” She stood up but paused, narrowing her eyes at me and putting a hand on her hip. “You know, if I’m not allowed to bite my lip, then you’re not allowed to wear your Superman ‘sex-me-up’ glasses. It’s only fair.”

My lips twitched. “I’m sorry, my what?”

She made a sweeping gesture across my whole face. “The glasses, Bryce.”

“You mean the things that allow me to see clearly?”

“You know what else allows you to see clearly? Contacts. And they get the job done without making you look like freaking Clark Kent’s sexier, dirty blonde twin.”

I leaned back in my chair and grinned.

“What’re you…? Why are you looking at me like that?” she huffed.

“Just letting myself savor the moment. This feels like a momentous occasion.”

“What does?”

“The discovery of what butters Elliot Kincaid’s biscuit.”
